Dvd Video stutters in stand alone machines.

I have succesfully used Ulead Movie Factory 3 for a while, but never liked the way you could not insert chapter points manually, so I decided to give Encore 2.0 a shot.
I like the compiling portion of the Adobe product, and find it very easy to use, and intuitive. The problem is when I burn a new DVD, the video quality is not up to par, and the video gets blocky, and stutters during camera movements.
Currently I Tivo hockey games from TV, and then burn them on a standalone Sony DVD Recorder to a Dvd-r which I then edit on the computer, by adding text, and a menu and such. To use Adobe Encore 2, I have converted the source file to Mpeg2 using a software program, on it's slowest, highest quality setting, so Adobe can read it, and then do my authoring. In Adobes monitor window the video is smooth, and seamless, but the burned result is nowhere near as good. The video portion movement is jerky, and blocky. In trying to isolate the problem, I have used the same source Mpeg2 in Movie Factory 3 to see if it produced the same result, and I am sorry to say everything was fine with that burn. There was no stutter, and no blockiness. The problem seems like Adobe is compressing the video to a lower quality during the burning process. I have Adobes monitor setting set to High, but I think that only translates to the monitoring portion of the program. I could not find an option to tell Adobe to burn at the highest quality setting, regardless of the file size. My project is no more than 45 minutes in length, so I am not trying to jam alot onto a DVD disk. I have pretty much exhausted my knowledge, and what the problem may be, so I am hoping someone here has some suggestions.
My system specs:
Dell
Pentium 4 - 2.8 ghz
1.5 gigs Ram
8x Hewlett Packard DVD drive
160 gig hard drive - 70% free
Drive has been defragged.
Also while I am at it, is there a better way to capture my games from the TIVO while eliminating the standalone dvd-r step? The computer, and the Tivo are in seperate rooms naturally, but I was wondering if I could network it to the computer, and capture video that way. Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks,
Chris

This really is a very, very common issue with standalone recorders.
The data rates they use are often very high indeed, and it can often result in discs being burned from them that will only play correctly on the machine they were made on.
You mention
>To use Adobe Encore 2, I have converted the source file to Mpeg2 using a software program, on it's slowest, highest quality setting, so Adobe can read it, and then do my authoring.
What file types are created by the Sony please?
And what are you converting with?
Remember the Adobe monitor is showing you the footage both in progressive scan format - ie, non interlaced, and additionally it's streaming directly off the drive, not from a written disc.
Once you get to disc, the rules all change - and this is where you will see the results of "conversion".
MPEG files are heavily compressed, and converting them to another compressed format will cause inevitable quality loss.
Can you please give some info on exactly what the structure is from the Sony, the file types, and if at all possible the data rates of your MPEG-2 files after conversion?
There is a utility called "bitrate Viewer" that will do the final part. Grab a copy at http://www.tecoltd.com/

  • Stuttering in stand alone dvd players

I can"t understand why when i burn dvd's they tend to stutter in stand alone dvd players but plays jus fine in my mac dvd player. Can anyone tell me why this happens. Is it the bit rate or the the dvd media. I can't figure it out.

Is the shuttering constant ? If not it could be a support problem.
If it is constant (strobe-like), however then I suspect it's an interlace field order thing.
In this case the ordering of the interlace fields is wrong. But either the DVD player on Mac accounts for a different order than the standard one, or it the process of converting the interlaced signal into progressive (that's how computer displays are) automatically removes the concept of field ordering.

Thanks to one and all for having such a nice forum as it has answer to all the questions which I have posted.
I have been given a very interesting work for anlying if SAP PI could be installed on a standalone machine without having any SAP box. My requirement is to install SAP PI tool for non SAP integration.
I will distribute my question in 2 parts
    1. Can I install SAP PI in a stand alone desktop?
    2. Is is important to have a SAP R/3 system to install SAP PI tool?
Please do share your thoughts and if possible please share the document which could be used as proof.
    Thanks in advance.

  • DVD will not play on certain stand alone machines.  Help!

Hello, everyone. I'm going crazy trying to find a solution to this. I burn a lot of DVDs for people using DVD-R media, and burned at 1x. For most people, that works fine. However, I have certain people who just can't get a clean copy - the video will stutter, for example. I know that standalone DVD players are only compatible with certain media, but the ones having trouble have DVD-R listed.
I'm creating videos using iMovie 08, sending it to iDVD, saving a Video_TS folder, and then burning it with Roxio Toast. Is there better burning software? Are there settings I can change to make it more universal? Would trying DVD+R help? Any help/suggestions would be great.

Perhaps the brand is the problem. I have Philips DVD-R and Memorex DVD+R. I will try the Verbatim, since I see that a lot of people here like that. Like I said, the ones I'm using work in each of the 5 DVD players in my house, just not for others. But I guess I just have less picky hardware than the people who are having issues.

We are able to login to HR on the new database and also create new applications. The steps that we follow are
    For Export:
    1) Login to workspace as hr/hr
    2) Go to Application Builder > Export > Application
    3) Application ( we choose our application no. 500)
    File format - DOS
Build Status Override - Run and build application
File character set - Unicode UTF-8
    4) Clicking on Export Application creates the sql file f500 which is saved by us in our specified folder
    For Import (in another machine)
    1) Copied the f500.sql file in this machine
    2) Login to workspace as hr/hr
    3) Go to Application Builder > Import > Application
    4) Import file - Specified our file name
    File Type - Application/page export
File character set - Unicode UTF-8
    5) Click on Next
    Gives "Page cannot be displayed"
When we click refresh it gives the error
Expecting p_company or wwv_flow_company cookie to contain security group id of application owner.

  • Dependency list in project shows 2 DLL files. What do I need to do when creating a stand-alone executable file to ensure that it is included?

When the executable that I created is run on a stand-alone machine, a search is instantly launched to locate the missing *.DLL files along with about 20 other sub vi files from an example vi file that I downloaded last week.  Once the exampe vi was open, I modified the block diagram and the front panel and then I resaved it with a new name.
The missing sub-vi files are the same files that I saw listed in the Dependencies list of the project along with the 2 DLL files.  This problem shouldn't be happening because I included the top level vi file that contains the sub-vi files into the source files list under the Start-Up VIs window of the application properties.  What needs to be done to make this stand-alone executabale complete?

OK...So it's not a simple as clicking the mountian icon  above and inserting the location of the picture file on my PC huh?  It works on my end just fine, but I understand you all don't see it.
I really don't understand why this is such a complicated process in this discussion forum, but your explanation isn't working for me.  SO, I'm going to write what I understand to be the proper procedure and you tell me if it's wrong.
Attach my image using the Browse button below.  That makes sense.  Done that.
Edit my post - Edit it?  How is typing this message in the window any different from editing my post???  Are you sugesting that I Edit As HTML(http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/post?board.id=170&message.reply_to_id=244152#) using the shortcut in the lower right hand side of the frame???  I not, please explain a different way.
I right clicked the adress in the window under the Attachment  heading below the lower left hand side of the frame, copied it and pasted it into the Script Prompt: dialog pop-up that appeared when I clicked on the mountain icon in the tools menu.  By the way,
Now I see my image in the post just before I sent it.
    Don't you see it now?
As for the DLL file - the ONLY way I can find the DLL file that I need is to refresh the dependencies list in my project.  As I explained in my previous posts, those two DLL files came with an example vi that i downloaded from the NI website last week and they must have been embedded inside of the example because I didn't create them myself and I've since resaed the original example vi as one that's been renamed by myself.  In doing so, I presume that the DLL file was inherited from the original example vi file to my own vi file.  However, that's clearly not the case because every time I run the executable file that I created with the renamed example vi file in my project, it immediately launches a searchfor the DLL files that it claims are missing!!!  SInce the DLL files are ONLY visible in the dependencies list, I can't transfer them to the Dynamic VI and Support files window in the Application Builder.  SO, I drag them up the Source Files tree in the Application Builder to the top of the tree where the Start-up vi is located and then I can move them to the Dynamic VI and Support Files window.  Those DLL files don't appaer inthe top level of the tree where the Start-up vi appears before I move it to the Start-up vi window of the Application Builder.  I'll try it again.

  • My DVD's Audio is fine on the Mac - but MISSING on stand-alone player

Slightly wrong forum (sorry) but all the experts are here!
Re-hashing my 4:3 DV (PAL) movie for a re-release of the DVD and all's gone extremely well until now.
On my (DVDSP) burned DVD all video is working fine - the audio files are .ac3
No audio in the AUDIO_TS folder on disc - or in the cache (using finder).
    Where did I go wrong?
How can it play perfectly on the Mac (DVD Player) and there be NO AUDIO on the stand-alone?
    Thanks in anxious anticipation!

    Thanks both.
Talk about a fun Friday, we have HUGE floods here (no - nothing to do with the DVD problem, OR the vacuum cleaner) the UK's had an abnormal amount of rain recently and today's been hideous!
To get back to the topic, as in all pro studios, the DVD player is on the floor - and the carpet was vacuumed yesterday. I notice the player had moved but it didn't dawn on me to check the cables.
Typical of me - assume there's a really serious technical problem first - check the obvious last!

  • Best codec for out to stand alone HD video playable through VLC on PC

I finished a wedding in France recorded in HD on a Sony XD CAM EX-1
I am editing in Final Cut 6.0.6
I had photos from Photoshop CS4 imported into the film and did not
interlace them. They were accepted into the timeline with the Sony footage: XD Cam EX 1080i 50 35mbs VBR.
I would like to deliver an uncompresssed version on a hard drive playable on VLC through a PC. I would also like to see if I can compress this half hour and put it on a DVD?
Final cut and Compressor had trouble with this footage to make the Quicktime
stand alone video and a 39 Program stream.mpeg
When I did get a successful copy_ they will not copy to an external Hard Drive_ it reads disc error.
Is this because of the mix of interlaced and non interlaced? Should I go back
and interlace all the photos and try again???
What is the best codec to export a full res from Final Cut? ( Quicktime, which ProRes??)
and if I try to put the half hour on a dvd not blue ray ... which codec is best? MPEG2?
    Thanks very much,
    Bill Phipps

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your input. I shot the wedding in France in PAL on the Sony EX1 using
XD Cam EX 1080i 50 35mbs VBR. And want to deliver to bride and groom
a full HD copy on a hard drive to be played on a pc using VLC software.
I was able to load my foootage and Sony allows me to select this in Final Cut
as a setting when I edit. I imported some
still photos from Photoshop and these are not interlaced. Something I am
now concerned about. I could easily interlace them, however, I was thinking
it would be better to de-interlace the video footage instead as everyone
viewing the film would do so on a pc.
I went on Creative Cow and have gotten a thread
from Creative Cow which tells me:
Re: To deinterlace,or not to deinterlace
by Ed Dooley on Jan 8, 2009 at 11:01:35 am
Not necessarily true. Yes you'll lose the resolution if you use the simple de-interlace filter in FCP (and many other programs). If, however, you use Frame Controls in Compressor (do a search of this forum and you'll find lots of instructions), you do not lose res, the fields get blended. There are 3rd party products that do the same thing (Nattress has one).
Having said all that, I wouldn't deinterlace unless you need to (like for the web for example), the program's going out to TV? Leave it interlaced.
    Ed
I at the moment cannot find where Frame Controls in Compressor and saved my project just
before my last step of using the Final Cut Pro de-interlace filter on all of the HD Pal footage.
I had to try 3 times to make a stand alone Quick Time which normally goes smoothly for me, so
I started to wonder if the interlaced video with non-interlaced photos was the problem?
The stand alone Quick Time and the MPEG-2 both gave me trouble and I got an error when
trying to copy them to a drive that was formatted in the only cross platform format I know
being Fat 32. It is a 7200 rpm drive.
I got an answer from Creative Cow on this where the person advised me to convert the file
    to Pro Res.
    I would appreciate any input.
Thanks for your time and attention.
    Bill

  • Export from iMovie to stand-alone DVD hard drive

I want to preserve camcorder home movies edited in iMovie. The DVD recorded from iDVD won't play on my existing DVD player. Could I use the hard drive of a stand-alone DVD recorder/player to import from iMovie? I don't currently own one.
iMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Tapes from miniDv Canon Optura 60

A key consideration is the amount of free space on your boot hard drive. You will probably need a minimum of 15 to 20 GB to complete your project in iDVD. If you will have this amount of free space after copying over the files, go ahead.
BTW, if you plan on making several copies, make your first 'burn' to a disk image on your hard drive (it's an option under 'File' if I remember correctly).
Verify the disk image with Apple's DVD Player and then burn the copies you need with Apple's Disk Utility. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006

  • QuickTime stand alone not playing video, only audio

Am running QuickTime stand alone on my PC with Windows XP Home 2002. For some reason the .mov files that were created with my digital camera will not play video (only audio) on this computer. The files seem to play fine on other computers. Have also found out that I can play downloand or streamed videos (only audio).
Can't figure out why video won't play. Other video formats (.avi for example) play fine through Windows Player.

  • MP3 CDs from iTunes on stand-alone DVD players

I was reading a couple of threads in this forum on that topic and here are my observations:
Until now I have been burning MP3 CDs in iTunes only as a backup, not for actual listening.
Recently we have purchased a rather cheap stand-alone Grundig DVD player for watching movies, it is also MP3 CD-R/DVD-R compatible. It will play any CD-R or DVD-R with MP3 files on it that has been burned in the standard ISO 9660 or Mac-Hybrid format, either on a PC or using Toast.
The player will not recognize any MP3 CD burned using iTunes 4.x or 6.x, either on an iBook G3 or a Powerbook G4. This is not due to bad or cheap media, all of those CDs show up in iTunes and play correctly. I'm using Sony CD-Rs and I haven't had a single problem with hundreds of them in the past few years. I use them mostly for data backup or for sending client's files to a print office.
If I copy the data from an iTunes MP3 CD to Toast and burn them as an MP3 CD using Toast, the CD will play fine in the DVD player.
    So, my summary:
There's definitely something wrong with the way iTunes creates an MP3 CD.
Personally, I don't care much though. If I ever "desperately" needed an MP3 CD to play in that DVD player, a copy of my backup CDs using Toast is done quickly and costs near to nothing.

  • Import stand-alone time machine backups to OS X server?

Can I import stand-alone (direct connect) Time Machine backups into OS X server Time Machine services so I can see & use them?

Local backups are stored in a folder. Network backups are stored in a folder on a disk image. In theory, you could start a network backup and then replace the folder with a copy from another device, but in practice copying TM backups doesn't work very well, if at all. It makes more sense to set the old backup drive(s) aside until you're sure you'll no longer need the data, then erase them and start over. Meanwhile start new backups over the network, if that's what you want to do.

  • DVD Rip and then burn - video stuttering

I'm trying to rip from a dvd (legal) - so I can put it in Final Cut, add subtitles, and burn back to dvd? But so far, I'm getting video that stutters on my final dvd.
I tried to rip the video from dvd using MPEG Streamclip, then edited it in Final Cut before burning a dvd in DVD Studio. But in the ripped video the picture fades in and out.
Then, when I burn to dvd, the video stutters incredibly on a regular dvd player (but not on the computer's dvd player). Anyone know what's going on here?
    Suggestions?

I just encoded it using compressor. A little bit of stuttering on the dvd (should I apply a de-interlace filter?)
But still have the problem with a constant color change on the video - is there a different program that I should try to rip with rather than MPEG Streamclip?
    Thanks.
