DVDSP2 Final Print "Flickering"?

Hi,
I'm running into a problem with DVDSP2 where my preview looks great (in simulator) but my final build produces a subtle yet annoying flickering effect during playback. My audio was encoded using A.Pack and my video was pre-encoded, using Compressor 1.2.1 (using the 90 minute / high quality preset).
Again, the preview looks perfect - but once I build / format, the final print flickers. I'm wondering if I need to set something in the Encoding preference panel? Currently it's set to Two Pass VBR / 7.0 MBPS (which is a little different than the Compressor preset). Does DVDSP even do any "additional" encoding if a video file was pre-encoded in Compressor?
Thanks gang - I'm on a super-tight deadline, any advice would be appreciated. Please don't make me resort back to iDVD - I like my own menus..

<cite>is the flickering occuring just on your computer when you test the disc, just on a set top player, or both? It sounds a bit like interlaced vs progessive to me.</cite>
Hi gang,
Thanks for all your responses. In answer to the above question, it was occurring on both set top and computer monitor.
<cite>No, DVD SP will not do any more work on an already compressed .m2v video file.</cite>
Interesting - what I did to cure the problem is I re-built / formatted the DVD, but this time under Prefs > Encoding, I set Encode Mode to "One Pass". Nothing was done differently between the last bad/flickering version and the new/non-flickering version. The exact same .m2v video file was used. My thinking was since I pre-encoded the video using Compressor, that maybe something was getting hit twice - but based on your statement above, that's probably not the case.
I'll run some more tests - I'd like to see if I can repeat the problem & solution exactly. I'll report back if I find anything more conclusive.
Also, in the end, I created a fine looking DVD last Thursday, and the movie was a huge success at its first screening.

  • Final print completely different to layout in LR 5.3

    Hi,
I use a Macintosh with mountain lion 10.8.5.
Until I started changing what layout I wanted the final print from my epson 7900 was ok. I had it as a customised A2 on A1 layout.
When I changed it to an A2 layout from the dropdown menu the final print was 609mm square and the image itself was near the left hand border in the middle and occupied only 25% of teh total area of teh paper. I tried different print sizes but they all came out the same.
I tried what an other forumite did and updated the firmware for the printer but thus made no difference.
When I opened an LR4.4 application that I still had I was able to print it on the custom setting for 609x 420mm without a problem.
    Ant suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Hardy

There are two factors that can contribute to the coordinates being displaced or not being applied. I'm assuming here that you are using gps4cam to generate a tracklog and applying the tracklog to the images.
    1. The camera time must be in exact sync with the phone time, including time zones. If you forgot to adjust for daylight savings time, or if the clock on the EOS-M got reset, that could be one source of this issue.
    2. When using GPS witha smart phone, sometimes wifi hotspots are used for "greater accuracy" but occasionally a hotspot may be associated with an incorrect location.
Based on your details above, and the fact that we just changed clocks last month, I'm betting on #1.
For what it's worth, I use my EOS-M with an Eye-Fi SD card and that will allow me to record GPS data directly into XMP data without the use of a separate tracker app. It does wear down the battery faster, though.

  • What should I work with for an initial file size for final print pieces that range from 18"x12" to 40' x 20'.

I am shooting in Canon RAW and using background plates with green screen images. I am not certain whether I need to create the initial file in multiple sizes for the various final print pieces, or if a single file size should be used and then down-rezzed or uprezzed based on what needs to be printed.
    File sizes are:
    18" x 12" (inches)
    40" x 27" (inches)
    30" x 60" (inches)
    60" x 120" (inches)/5' x 10' (feet)
    20' x 40' (feet)
The largest size format we are doing as 1/10 scale at 720 dpi to go down to 72 dpi for print.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Much thanks.

Is it ok to delete the stuff from the Final Cut Express Documents since I don't need it anymore?
    No problem.
Regards the external drive. Check that it is formatted to Mac OS Extended or you will strike trouble and connect it with a firewire cable, not USB.

  • Document size and final print size

I am beginning a new aerial drawing in Illustrator CS4 on an 2009 imac, to be printed at 40x40". If the document is sized at 40x40, the computer slows down as detail accumulates. Since Illustrator is a vector-based application, can the document size be set smaller than the final print size, say at 20x20" or 10x10", to keep file size down and speed faster, without losing print quality?
    Thanks for any help!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    without losing print quality?
Depends on the specific content of the file and what exactly you mean by 'setting the document size smaller.'
Better would be to try to discern what is causing the performance issue. Again, that comes down to what the content is.

  • Final print size does not match screen view.

    Hi
I am having problems getting my final prints to match the screen view.  Most recently I have had this problem:  I have an image that is sized to 5X7.  I have it on a 5X7 template in the print module of Lightroom.  The image dimensions in Lightroom say 5X7.  I print on 5X7 paper (I actually measured it to be sure).  ON the screen they look perfect, match the the templates and measure out fime with the onscreen rulers.  Without fail a portion of the print is cut off on the final print.  The long side of the print is the most effected.  This is not just limited to 5X7's, it happens across the board.  Is this a common problem or I am I doing something wrong?  In the 5X7 example above the print comes out 5.2 X 7.3 give or take.  I am using Lightroom 5.3 on an iMac running OS 10.9.1.  The printer is a Canon Pro 100.
I welcome any help with this.
    Thank you
    Joe

If the problem is that the printed image is being scaled larger, this is a very common side effect with borderless mode settings in print drivers. Typically, (though sometimes you can prevent this where alternative borderless options are given) - an extra unrequested scaling % ensures that any physical mis-registration or inaccuracy of the paper size, does not leave any accidental white edges.
That's nothing to do with LR's end of the process, if so.

  • Final Print pop up for printer will not pop up

I have used this product for years.  In order to print my designs I create them, the OPEN them in photoshop.  Go to PRINT, then I select my settings for my Brother GT-3 printer.... then I hit the final PRINT button... then another screen should POP UP - allowing me to save my work and this is not happening.  I am using photoshop elements 12.  Please help me fix this issue.

I've never come across a prompt to save my image during the print process. That only happens when you try to close an image or the application and you have opened images that have been changed.

  • Drop shadow causing faint rectangles showing in final printed book cover

    Greetings experts!
Hoping I can get a translation and a nod as to whether I am on the right track. I have taken a two-day beginner's course in InDesign and am getting past the edge of my knowledge on this issue.
Publishing a 112-page book, perfect bound, with full color cover.
The printer ran the cover a little darker this time, and some pesky faint rectangles showed up around the book title which is reversed out of a photograph. The title has a drop shadow.
I found the following reference, but am not sure what the terms mean and what I'm supposed to adjust. Any help much appreciated. See below for article reference.
    Kindest regards,
    spnDesign
"Clip Complex Regions Ensures that the boundaries between vector artwork and rasterized artwork fall along object paths. This option reduces stitching artifacts that result when part of an object is rasterized while another part of the object remains in vector form. However, selecting this option may result in paths that are too complex for the printer to handle.
"Stitching, where rasters and vectors meet.
Note: Some print drivers process raster and vector art differently, sometimes resulting in color stitching. You may be able to minimize stitching problems by disabling some print-driver specific color-management settings. These settings vary with each printer, so see the documentation that came with your printer for details."

A couple of other things: check your transparency settings, and set them to High Resolution.
When printing to press, you should always use/send CMYK unless the printer asks you not to. Sending RGB images to press is asking for them to be converted on the fly and you may see color shifts.
Also, check the level of PDF compatibility you're using when converting to PDF. Converting at 5.0 and later passes transparency into the PDF, but converting at 4.0 causes it to flatten transparent elements, and you may get better results. Drop shadows created in InDesign are transparent elements.
Finally, if the drop shadows ARE created in InDesign, I've seen a note somewhere that the transparency effect blend mode should not be set to "multiply," even thought that is the logical mode to use. This may have been an issue only at CS2 however.

  • Prepping Final Print Files in Illustrator

Rarely do I ever prepare print files in Illustrator, but have had to from time to time. I've run into a problem in the past and want to figure out a way to avoid it (InDesign is the easy solution). That problem is this: process colors in a spot document (or vice versa). Most of the time I'm very good about organizing everything, but sometimes I have to leverage from a client's documents. When I come to the preparing the final art, I tend to select and delete all unused swatches. The problem with Illustrator is, you can delete all unused swatches, but still have colors not assigned to a swatch still in the art. Is there a good way to deal with this problem out of Illustrator?

I see. That's actually pretty smart. So it adds colors from the artwork to the swatch panel. I think I'll start using that function. Thanks!

  • Final print dimensions different to print preview

I have been trying to print A2 prints on a 24inch/615cm wide (A1) roll. The final sheet is square i.e. 615x615 with the image off centre. I have gone into page setup and checked everything and even the preview indicates all is well until I print and then the dimensions are all incorrect. Suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi Narasimhan,
Yes, your guess is correct. We have tried out the possibility of controlling the print from the user status configuration side of things, but as the user status is at an Operation level, the system status at the header level still gets set, confusing the user that a print was created.
Any other ideas / alternates ?
    Cheers,
    Ashok.

This is my first time using InDesign to make something and I have never had an issue like this.
Stands to reason that you never had an issue like that.
Exporting to PDF requires you to choose an output profile. The "High Quality" PDF export is only a starting point. When you export a PDF you can choose to have "No colour conversion" which will give you the same values as your inDesign file.
But you should probably choose an output profile that matches your printer.
If you output to a specific output profile then the colours will Change. You can avoid this by choosing "Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers).
This is all available in the File>Export>PDF (Print) and in the Output section of the dialog box.
And to add to that - if you think that you'll get this colour printed by a professional printers to match, then you need to send them a sample of the colour you are looking for that is printed from you and ask them to match that.

  • Black lines show up on final print

In CS4 when ever I save to PDF and try to print my document these horizontal black lines show up.  They are most notable around areas with varying transparency.
This happen to anyone else? Any ideas?

Is your print head clean and are you using the right paper? Sounds like it's simply spitting too much ink on the paper and it smears... also reset your printer driver settings, if you used some "Saturation" tweaks. This will increase the amount of ink used and further the issue.

  • Converting colour profile of final print package before printing

How do I convert the colour profile of a Lightroom custom printing package from Adobe Prophoto to sRGB before printing? For that matter, how do I save the thing? I have no interest in saving the template, or the collection separately, since neither has any use without the other. And without saving them as one finished item, I have no way to convert the colour profile of that item. I can see clearly from the appearance of the print preview that the above mentioned colour profile conversion is required.

You cannot change the profile in Lr to <sRGB>.
If you want to print sRGB, select  <Managed by Printer> for Color Profile under Color Management.
Then in your printer's dialog select <sRGB> instead of <Application managed> (or similar wording - depending on your printer).
BTW: the term is not "Adobe proPhoto" it's "proPhoto RGB".

  • Print layout not matching final print

    Looking for help.
    Epson 3880.
    Lightroom 4.
    Moutain Lion.
    All current.
I am trying to print on 5x7 paper. I set the page setup to 5x7. I have the margins set to .2" on each side. The layout image inside Lr looks exactly how I want it to.
Then I print. I end up with a .125" margin on the left and top, and a .625" margin on the right and bottom.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
We really apologize for all the inconvenience which has caused you.
Firstly I would like you to check if the printer has got the most latest drivers installed or not.
If not go ahead and install the same.
Secondly while printing make sure you dont have centre the image and zoom to fit are not wrongly selected.
Also, you can try creating custome paper size and check with the same
In the meanwhile if these steps doesnt resolve your issues you can contact Adobe support by following the link below:

  • Thin lines on PDFx1a  have printed on final job!!!

We recently produced a final print PDF for the front cover of magazine and all was well. No Lines as normal.
However, when this same PDF of cover was placed back into Indesign as part of a promotional poster, the final PDF appeared have some thin lines in 3 places. They were visible when PDF was viewed at 800% and above, and we initially thought that they were part of the 'Atomic Regions' set out by the flattening process.  Anyway, these lines have printed and now we are wondering how to avoid this in future
As I say it only appears to happen when placing the Cover version of PDF back into Indesign file and a new PDF is created.
Does anyone know how to get round this without rasterizing PDF and changing to a bitmapped image. After all we want to keep all vector items as original cover, as poster  is quite large.
I look forward to a reply
