DVI Signal Irregularities

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my HDTV (Sharp Aquos 37") via DVI cable, the signal looks great.
However, every 30 seconds or so, the signal gets a strange irregularity. It's hard to explain, but the displayed image seems to "split" -- with the bottom portion of the screen slightly off alignment. This "split" moves upward on the screen until it gets about half way to the top, then disappears. It's pretty frustrating to see.
Anyone know what could be the root cause? Is it my DVI cable? My laptop? My TV? Thanks in advance...

I've seen that kind of thing on CRT-based televisions but never on a digital TV. When it happens on a CRT TV, it is usually that you are seeing the beat frequency (small difference) between the 60Hz power line and the 60Hz video frame rate.
One thing you might want to try is disconnect all other video connections from the Sharp and make sure the MBP is the only thing connected. Also, make sure the MBP and the Sharp are plugged into the same wall outlet. If the irregularity goes away, it could point to a grounding problem among all your equipment. Start plugging things in one-by-one until the problem comes back. That can help you isolate the issue to a specific piece of gear or a specific connection.

  • No DVI signal, only analog and TV-out

Hi, I bought a new computer a couple of months ago and have been having some problems with my graphic card (MSI FX5900XT-VTD128). Most of these problems disapeard when I re-installed WindowsXP.
However, about one week before I re-installed WindowsXP my screen just went black when I tried re-installing my video drivers. First I thought that somehow in the pocess of installing the new drivers my video card got overheated or something and broke (highly unlikely, but I have seen strange things in my days).
Furthur investigation revealed that it was "only" the DVI signal that stopped transmitting. I have since then tried to enable the DVI signal with no luck. I haven't found any options in both the NVIDIA drivers nor the MSI drivers in which to choose analog or digital output.
My monitor shows that there is a DVI conneciton, but the screen is still black. In most of my tests I would have DVI and TV-out plugged in so that I can make changes in the settings through my TV.
I'm running out of things to try and I am very open to suggestion, if anyone would be so kind.

    WindowsXP SP2
NVIDIA 66.93 drivers (have tried with MSIs drivers)

    Thanks for your suggestions.
I already tried the driver solution, and it didn't work... However, I can try even older driver and see if they will enable the cards DVI signal. The problem with the driver solution is that there is no setting for choosing CRT or LCD monitor. In both dual view and clone mode I can only choose between a monitor and TV output... One thing I found strange though, normally at boot time (before the OS loads) I would get both analog and digital signals, but now there is only the analog signal.
The monitor solution I will try in a couple of days, when I will carry my computer over to a friends place and try it on his monitor. The only problem is that my computer is so damn heavy! :-)
I will keep trying and let you guys know how it worked out.
In the meantime, if anyone else has a suggestion, I'm all ears.

  • No DVI Signal

My HP S2031a 20” Widescreen LDC monitor cannot find the DVI signal from my HP Pavilion G5460uk (LN868EA) Desktop.
The VGA connection still works just fine - from first connecting up and switching on, even without using the supplied drivers C.D.
I was hoping to use the DVI-D Single Link cable supplied with the monitor, to compare the picture quality.

My Desktop was eventually sent to the company who are commissioned to repair H.P. computers.
A new mother board was fitted, which also updated the BIOS.
This new BIOS version was not documented at the time on the H.P. site under the Tech Spec for my machine - which I would suggest as being was somewhat unhelpful.
The repair procedure however was very professionally executed from my first contact with H.P. to having the machine picked up from my workplace and returned within the same week.
    Hope this helps.

  • D10 + Tesla C2050 + NVS 295 = No DVI Signal

    Hi there,
I’ve got two monitors hooked up to Nvidia NVS 295 sitting in 16x PCI-E .
Adding Tesla C2050 to the second 16x PCI-E slot causes both DVI signals to go off.
This is very unfortunate and very expensive problem as my PC now matches exactly recommended Tesla+Quadro Workstation configuration but doesn’t work.
Both of the cards work fine in isolation but not together. With Tesla having just a single display head I need another card to power my second monitor (and I’d like to add the third).
My D10 PSU is 1000W so there is enough power – I get “green lights”, PC boots up ok, keyboard works, just no video signal.
My BIOS video option is fixed at “Nvidia Card”, I can’t change anything there. Switching off networks and ports in BIOS didn’t help either.
Is there any solution bar buying a new workstation to make Tesla work with two monitors? Would it help if I get something like 1xPCI-E NVS card instead of 16x I already have?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pavel

You shouldn't assume that a 1000W supply will instantly grant you enough power to run the config you want.  It's all in how the rails are distributed.  I can take a standard desktop supply and design in 800W worth of 5V rails and call it a 1000W supply (stupid example, but it demonstrates the point).
Knowing how the power rails are laid out for the D10 supply, and what the TDPs are for the cards you're trying to use, I'm guessing you're running into an issue where you simply don't have enough 12V power to run both cards at the same time.  The C2050 is a beast, one that actually violates the PCIe power spec if I remember correctly.  When attempting to boot with both cards installed, you should see 2 green LEDs near the external 12V connectors if the card is getting enough power.  If it's not, one or both will be red I think.  Even if they're both green, it doesn't necessarily mean the NVS295 is getting enough power as well.
To put it simply....there's a reason we didn't qualify the C2050 on D10
You might have better luck with the slightly older C1060 Tesla adapter.  I believe it's slightly lower power, which might allow you to run another dual head card for monitor support.  Best to check with the offical list of supported cards though.

  • Sa-1110 No DVI signal.

My monitor setup shows no DVI signal. VGA is primary and DVI the default.
    What may be the problem?

Hello I have a p6-2310 desktop. My situation is that I bought it for the sole purpose of multi-display. After 4 months after I buy it, I haden't really used the multi-display part of the pc until now and now I start learning that this desktop says it is multi-display but it is not. DVI-D is not funtinal in any monitor and all i have is a vga and a dvi-d. I have tried everythign I can think of from adapters to converters and nothing. All I keep reading is that dvi-d is not used for video it just doesnt work. one of my questions is, if it s useles why  sell somethign that is clearly not multi-display as saying it is. My second question I already have the desktop and a 2 year warranty on it. I need help because I NEED to use multi monitors. What can I do without havign to keep spending money on something that should be already part of a pc I bought for the reason it says it works for.

  • FX5700-VTD256 lost DVI signal

In addition to the Creative and nVidia application problem that I posted here:
Issue with FX5700 and Audigy 2 ZS app's?
I just lost my DVI signal (in windows, during BIOS POST, everything)!
Long story short, did format+delete partition+fresh win XP pro install.  After installing my logitech tackball drivers (which worked fine before, for a least a week or so), I rebooted my system...no video signal.  I have a analog/DVI flat screen, so I was using the digital connection.  I hear windows boot up, so I try shutting down, unplugging the system, pressing the power button...etc.  Turn everything back on, monitor is still black, and windows still boots up.  I shut it down and go to sleep.
In the morning, I hooked up the analog cable, and booted up the system.  The monitor comes on (analog signal, with the DVI cable still attached), and I boot up into windows. No errors, no warnings (still have the EAX and nVidia app's not showing up in systray).  I look in hardware manager, no conflicts, no unknown devices (except for the USB ports that are disabled in the back).  I look under display/settings/advanced/drivers and see that the monitor is ID'd correctly, in Analog mode...even though the only monitor driver I installed off the samsung CD was the digital driver.  Tried installing digital driver again.  Hit the "signal switch" button on the monitor to force it to look for a new signal...digital comes up with nothing, and so it goes back to analog.
My best guess would be that the video drivers are AFU, but why would that affect being able to detect a digital signal when I'm in BIOS?  I'm lost.  There is no BIOS jumper on my video card, so there's no "safe" VGA BIOS to go to, as far as I know, and MSI's Live Update says that my BIOS is the current version.  Help?
    power:
    +5V -5V +12V -12V +3.3V +5V
    Max. Load
    40A* 0.5A 24A* 1.0A 32A* 2A

Apparently the card broke itself, soon to be RMA'd.  Figures.

  • DVI Signal Not Working Properly in Hp 2010i Monitor

    Hi Team,
My Name is Rubhan and i Purchased a Hp2010i 20" LCD Monitor 3 weeks back. I just installed an ATI Radeon 4670 HD Graphics Card in my System which comes with a DVI Port(Default), Since there was no DVI Cables Supplied by the Manufacturer, i had to Buy a Seperate Cable and Install it to the system.... At first, the monitor went to sleep since there was no Signal from Graphics Card, but later on, after a minute Windows screen appeared and didn't last for more than few Seconds and Vanished again(this happens every time wen i restart or kept System in Idle)... I doubted Both the Graphics card and Cable to be at fault and Checked it in my Old Computer System. But Both the devices were Performing Normal and good. I checked the entire CPU with another LG LCD Monitor and Found it Working Great....I admite that my Monitor is Working great without Graphics card in VGA, But  I wud like to Know Reason or solution to this issue. I m happy that there is Direct DVI i/p option in Hp Monitor(which other Brands doesnt posses) and therefore no DVI-VGA Coverters required.

The only thing I can think of right now would be drivers.
Make sure you have the latest ATI drive for the 4670, here is a link to AMD's website.

  • ATI X800XT is adc port same dvi signal as the dvi port

For starters, what does "adc" stand for? Does it mean the adc is an analog port needing conversion to digital for display to an apple cinema display? someone at apple just said it stands for apple display connection. Yes, I know I still need an adapter, but I'm wondering if this port is inferior the the dvi port on the card. I don't know if the adaptor is just changing the physical hardware connections, or something else.
I want to go from the adc port thru an adc/dvi adaptor to the matrox mxo box, out of the mxo to apple hd 23" display. I need to reserve the other graphics port (dvi) to go thru a dvi/vga adaptor to my vga monitor.
Is the adc port on the card the same as the dvi port in terms of the type and quality of signal? What is the adc port anyway?

The video quality should not be compromised by using any of these adapters. The ADC outputs the same exact digital signal as the DVI outputs. The ADC-to-DVI adapter basically discards the USB and power features and passes the digital AND analog signals through.
As mentioned above, both ADC and DVI also carry analog video signals. Using a DVI-to-VGA adapter, an ADC-to-VGA adapter, or a combination of both will allow you to use an analog VGA monitor from either port on your video card, again with no degradation of the signal.
If you are missing any or all colors or the signal is degraded in some way, you must have a bad connection, bad adapter, or bad cable. Try reconnecting or replacing each part one at at time to determine the culprit.
As for the problem of non-matching DVI connectors, check the link below to determine which ones you have and which ones you need. There are pictures of each connector on this page:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AppleDisplayConnector
You should be able to find an adapter (or gender changer) that matches up to your cable. A web search should give you plenty of sources and options. You may try a place like Cyberguys.com: http://www.cyberguys.com/ (Search for "DVI gender" to see all available adapters.)
With quality cables and adapters, you should be able to achieve what you are trying to do with no signal degradation to each of your monitors. Let me know how it goes.

  • New Macbook won't send DVI signal to Samsung 226B LCD monitor

I have the mini-DVI-DVI adaptor going into a Comprehensive DVI-D cable that goes directly into my Samsung monitor. My monitor won't show any signal from the Mac. I went nto Display and "calibrated" the signal but i never see a signal on teh SSung.

Sorry I didn't see this thread before or else I would have jumped on it.
The question is when, if ever, did you update to 10.5.5? Before or after you noticed the problem?

  • Ikegami broadcast monitor-Mac won't send 1080p DVI signal

I'm trying to use an Ikegami HLM-1750WR broadcast monitor connected over DVI with my Mac Pro. It seems the display isn't sending any information to the mac, because 1080P is not an option, and 1080i looks awful. I've tried using SwitchRes X to specify 1080P, and it works—except the entire image is shifted over two inches to the right, leaving a quarter of the image off the edge of the screen. I tried tinkering with the settings, but can't get it to change. Anyone have any tricks to get this to work?

In reality, the projectors that show the work I'm working on (local Indie films) are connected over DVI-and that's if I'm lucky. Otherwise, its some cheap home projector connected to a DVD player over composite, so in reality DVI is useful for what I'm doing. Also, the monitor in question is far superior to the 9 year old dell I usually have attached, so its a worthwhile project in that sense too.
Alternate workflows aside, does anyone know a way to force 1080p output?
I know that SDI is better, but it would also be enlightening to know why exactly that is.

  • No vga/dvi signal , sends monitor into sleep mode even though I disabled sleep mode.

I have a HP Pavillion Media center PC system # RX883AA-ABA with a NVIDIA GeForce 7350 LE graphics card. The monitor is a HP w1907, it is connected to the desktop vga(monitor end) and dvi (desktop end) due to there is no vga port on the desktop.
It started randomly saying no siganl and monitor going into sleep mode. Now that is all I get. I know the monitor works because I hooked it up to my sons computer. I even did all the updates to all drivers on my system before it quit on me. So after the process of elimination it can only be video card.
So, my question is, does anyone have a suggestion that I may have missed? And if it is the video card, where can I get a replacement and how do I replace it?
I need to get the desktop up and running optimally before my 4 year old starts cyber school.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

In checking the SPEC page for that model, I see that PC does have onboard graphics.  Since it does, you can easily check and even use the PC by removing the graphics card and connecting the monitor to the VGA out from the onboard graphics.  Once the step is done and still it works, just not with the graphics card, then replace the card.  With only a 300W power supply, not much of a card can be installed.  It would appear sometrhing similar to THIS would be compatible.

  • Z97M GAMING no hdmi signal with DVI converter

My monitor has VGA/DVI only (Samsung SyncMaster 213T), I have a HDMI to DVI converter in the DVI port, this works with the HDMI out from my laptop.
Am putting together a Z97M/4790K rig. I get no signal at the monitor from the Z97M's HDMI out, if I connect it to a TV I do get a signal.
Am using the same (short) HDMI cable and adaptor with both the laptop and the new Z79M, used the same cable to connect the Z79M to the TV.
So the cable and converter are good (they work with the laptop) and the Z79M HDMI port and cable are good with the TV.
Anyone have any idea why the Z97M HDMI output wont display on my monitor? (Any bios settings to make the HDMI signal more compatable?)

Yes, to be clear, there is no GPU. When I say the Z97M's HDMI out I mean the output from the Z97M motherboard. I have tried it with a second screen, the TV (it worked).
Logically one of two things must be happening... either the Z97M's HDMI signal isn't making it through the DVI/HDMI adaptor (when the laptop's signal is), or the monitor cannot process the Z97M's HDMI signal (when it can process the laptop's).
HDMI and DVI signals are the same, so the adaptor is just a plug converter ('square plug in round hole') and unlikely to be the issue, especially as it works with the laptop.
But both the monitor and laptop (which work together with HDMI and the DVI converter) are >5 years old. The Z97M is very new and could be it's HDMI output just isn't compatable in some way with the (relatively) old monitor.
Hence am wondering (for example) if there are any Z97M bios settings which might make it talk nicely to the old monitor.
Be interested to hear if anyone has had issues (or even success!) using the HDMI out with DVI monitors, especially old Samsung SyncMasters ?
