DVI Switch box

Dose any one know of a "dvi switch box" or a "kvm switch" that supports 2560x1600 max res. I would like to have my 30" cinema display connected to both of my computers at the same time its getting tiresome disconnecting the dvi when ever i want to switch machines. My only problem is i cannot find a switch that goes up to 2560x1600 max res. please help me i have failed horribly at the google machine and would appreciate any assistance in tracking something down. Thank you!!!

I'm using this on my 23" ACD without any probs

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • Have 23" Cinema Display, want 30" but don't know if my DVI switch will work

I have a 23" Cinema Display currently being shared by my 2 Macs (G5 and MacBook Pro) and 2 Windows PCs using a 4 port Single Link DVI KVM.
I want to upgrade to a 30" display, but I am getting some conflicting advise from Apple Store personnel, Apple Online Store, etc.
I want to put an adapter between my current single link DVI switch and a new 30" cinema display. I keep hearing to use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter, but looking at pictures of it, I don't see how that would work. I would need two DVI connections on the adapter (one in and one out), but I don't see that on there.
The gist is, I have 4 computers (which may or may not have dual link DVI) and I want to still use them to drive a 30" Cinema Display. Am I just hosed and have to wait, or buy a 30" monitor from another vendor?
I would be fine with the current 1920 by 1200 resolution on the 30" as I am purchasing this to help my tired eyes.
    Thanks for any advise.

I have read of other 30" monitors (Samsung) supporting lower resolutions using a single link DVI. Is it just the Cinema Display that doesn't support single link at any resolution.
    The Apple 30" will work at 1,280 x 800 via single-link DVI.
    What's the point though

Is their a DVI switch of some sort avaliable in the market ? I know about the regular KVM switches (VGA/PS2) but need some guidance in the DVI arena...
    Thanks

A search of this forum for "DVI KVM" will yield a ton of information...

  • Mini DVI switch

    Hi,
I have two mini DVI adapters for my iMac. One to VGA to connect it to my second screen for working and one to Video to connect it to my TV as a media center.
Is there something like a mini DVI switch with that I can connect both adapter to switch between second screen and TV and don't have to unplug the adapters everytime?

I don't know of any such product. If the TV is also connected over VGA, you can probably connect a VGA switch to the end of one of one of those mini-DVI adapters and then connect your TV and second display to the switch. If the TV is an HDTV and connects with HDMI, or an older one that uses composite, then that would not work.
Alternately, you can dedicate the mini-DVI port to the TV connection. And get one of these adapters that lets you connect a display using USB

Just make sure you read the description (particularly the max resolution) to ensure it meets your needs.

  • DVI Switch Apple 20" Cinema PC and Mac

Hi i have recently purchased a DVI switch so that i am able to swap the output to my 20" Apple Cinema Monitor between my Windows PC and my PowerMac G4. the switch its self works perfect i am using apples ADC to DVI convertor which is plugged into the the switches output and the DVI outputs from the PC and Mac are going into the switches inputs, The problem i have is that when i switch to the PC and then back to the Mac my Mac seems to sleep the DVI output on the graphics card and i am unable to wake it up, so i have been resorting to a reboot before the monitor displays an output for the Mac, I have noticed that whilst the Mac is booting i can switch back and forth and it functions as intended which leads me to believe that this sleeping the output is a function of the OS, does anyone know how i can solve this problem. many Thanks

You may need a DVI Detective between the Mac and the DVI switch.

  • DVI Switch questions

    Hi,
I have two Mac Pro's and I want to share one of my displays with both.
Because my display has both VGA and DVI input I tried using the VGA input firsth, but it turned out that my Mac didn't support it's root resolution 1440x900 in this configuration.
So I decided to go for an DVI Switch, but I have a few questtions about it.
-I have read that you should never connect or disconnect an monitor when eigther the monitor or Mac is still running. (It could damage both!)
But how about "hot" switching? I'll be constantly switching between the two Mac's while they are both running.
    -Could thid damage my Mac's???
-An other thing is that switching using a DVI switch seems to take a lot more time than using an VGA switch.
(The Mac's seem to know that an monitor is added or gone, and addapts to the new situation.)
    Can I speed this up?
    Greetings,
    Michiel

I asume that my "König comuter 2 port DVI KVM Switch" wouldn't qualify for decent.
So if I want to be able to swich quickly between my two machines, I have to use VGA! (although quality will be bad because of the resolution)
    Why doesn't OSX support 1440 x 900 on VGA?
    Or is there a work-a-round?

  • DVI Switch

I'd like to use my Cinema display with my Macbook Pro as well as my Deskpro. Any suggestions on a good quality DVI switch. Not really interested in the KVM features.

    THE PROBLEM
I had one CRT VGA monitor, one LCD VGA monitor and One 'Apple DVI to TV adaptor' but only two DVI-I outputs available on my Quad G5. I wanted to switch easily from my VGA LCD monitor to TV Adaptor using the second DVI-I output as the urge took me. The other DVI output was for my main monitor which I didn't want to mess with.
But there are no DVI-I switches that don't cost less then £50/€70/$96. Most switch just the digital part of the DVI-I output anyway. These are DVI-D switches. No good to me. It baffles me why there aren't any DVI-A monitor switches. The only difference from VGA monitor switches is that DVI-A sockets would be required.
I invested in a cheap 'Female DVI-I (the Apple TV Adaptor is DVI) to Male VGA adaptor' but there was something wrong with it as the Apple TV Adaptor refused to work.
After much searching on the internet I couldn't find out what the pins on the Apple TV Adaptor where. So like any good geek I found out for myself.
Here is what I found and ultimately how to make a 'VGA to Apple TV Adaptor'. I now use a cheap VGA monitor switch I got second hand to switch easily from VGA monitor to Apple TV Adaptor. Work and play are only a quick switch away. Total cost €9/$12/£6.
All the information you need is here:-

I hope this helps a few people. I know I could've done with it.

  • RS 422  switch box and Kona LHe card??

Just received and installed this card. I have three decks that use RS 422 control and the Kona card only has one. Is it O.K. to use a switching box to switch between decks for RS 422 control. I have a 4 port RS 422 switch box that I used on an old system and seems like it would work.
    Thanks
    John

Using the switch should be fine, particularly as it worked in your previos set up.

  • How to configure switch boxes in VHDL in Virtex-5 device?

    Hello,
I am wondering if there is a way to cobfigure switch boxes in VHDL, initialize them and connect them consecutively as you wish? I want to connect a series of switch boex together (the output of first is the input of the next), but I do not know is it possible through VHDL or not?
I thank in advance for any kind help and assist.
    Regards,

    m,
The carry chain has typically been used in the past to create a programmable fine grained delay line.
Programming interconnect to do that is hard, and results in unpredictable delay, large variation, and a variation in step size.
    I would not recommend it.

  • Adding 2 monitors to iogear KVM switch box

    Hi all,
My 8600 has a ATI pci card VGA and a Mac DB15 video port for an expansion of 2 monitors.I would like to buy a iogear KVM switch box where I can connect my G4 and my 8600 and share 2 monitors, 1KB, 1 mouse and 1 printer. My question is, can I share the 2 monitors from the 8600 with the G4 via a iogear KVM switch box? Or does the switch box allow only 1 monitor?
    Thanks
    Web dude

That one only allows for one monitor, but this one allows multiple:

  • DDTS-100 decoder and switch box

    Hello,
Well, I'm just beginning(yea, I know another noob ) to get started in the home theatre experience. I bought the G550W 5.1 speakers and DDTS-100 decoder from Creative. My question is do I need to use the switch box as I want to hook things togther through my xbox360? And if not, does it matter which rca plug(red or white) goes into the subwoofer and center speaker plugs on the back of the subwoofer?
    Thanks for any possible help.

you need to put the 360's rca plug into the decoder and the 3 minijack(orange green black) from the decoder to the subwoofer. the sattelite speakers need to be put in the subwoofers rca plugs!! if you want real surround sound you should get the component or vga able for the 360 because they have a digital optical output, you can connect it with an optical cable to your decoder and push the digital button. your switchbox is not needed

  • 23" Apple Cinema Displays gos black when routed through DVI extenders boxes

I have an ATI radeon 9650 with two DVI ports. My new set up requires my Mac to be further than the dvi connector's present lenght to my 2 HD cinema displays. I purchased 2 DVI extender boxes. Once connected the Utilities does not show the displays as Cinema HD Displays. And worse yet they both go black and the power light blinks. When I hook up the 23" directly through DVI to the G5 both displays come on. However the one connected through the extender box still shows the wrong display profile.
I have check and re-checked the cables, extender boxes, my graphic card and all seems to test out properly. I know this because I have another G5 with same specks that I have tested these hardwares on. Finally I thought it was my Bootup drive so I did a full erase and clean reinstall. the monitors worked fine for 10 minutes and then when I clicked on Displays in system pref window they both went black again. I can only conclude that the DVI extender box is somehow changing the signature of the HD Displays and the the system freaks out!
THE MODEL OF THE DVI extenders are DAS 101,and 101R

I am at my wits end. I need to get to work before I loose all my clients. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!
PS total lenght of CAT5 DVI extenders from Mac to Display 15ft max

Naelm G, I just read your first post a little more carefully. Is it true you are only trying to place the Cinema displays 15 feet away from the Mac? That's not very far. If you don't care about also extending the Firewire and USB, then you might be able to get away with a simple 10 foot DVI extension cable like this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=102&cp_id=10209&cs_id=1020903&pid=2406&seq=1&format=2
The combinded length of the Cinema's built-in cable plus the 10 foot extension cable will be more than 15 feet. This would be the cheapest way to go by far.
Or if you want to extend the Firewire and USB along with the the video, then Gefen makes an extender that will do that:

  • Onkyo SR705 HDMI-DVI switching problem..

I just bought myself an Onkyo SR705 with built in HDMI switching. At first, I thought my monitor having problems with the switch or my mac pro not detecting it. Then i turned on my PS3 and it works. Mac detects the receiver. But no picture comes out if it. Previously, i had a TERK 2-in-1 switch and that works well.
Gateway FPD2275W DVI-HDMI > Onkyo > mac pro HDMI-HDMI with HDMI to DVI adaptor.
what do i need to do with the mac or the setup in general to fix this problem?
my monitor supports 1080i, and supports HDCP.

    ill answer my own question.
found out the switch does not support full HD resolutions. Supported Max at 1280x1024 and also 1024x768.. probably my video card doesn't support it either? eh.. for anybody who is wondering why it dont work.
