DW 8 Hang up on Mac 10.4.8

I have a php database page and I will start to work on it and
DW8 hangs and I get the beach ball that doesn't stop. Seems to
happen everytime I go to select some text in design view.
Any ideas?

Have you tried the normal Mac fixes of repairing permissions,
resetting the PRAM and doing a Safe Boot and finally trashing the
.plist if all those fail?

  • External Firewire HDD causes hangs on my Mac Pro & HDD lag using finder

External Firewire HDD causes hangs on my Mac Pro & HDD lag using finder.
I have an 2008 Mac Pro 8 core 2.66hz, 10GB Mem, ATI HD4870 with 4 internal 1 TB Drives. I have 3 external HDDs (2 USB + 1 FW400). The 2 USB HDDs are for Time Machine and backups.
The external FW HD is a 1TB bootable clone of my Internal 1 TB boot HDD.
I have 2 problems ... somethimes when using finder or opening a folder, copying files, starting or quiting a program, I get the spinning beach ball that seems to hang the Mac.
I power off the external FW HDD and everything starts to work. I get an error about the device going offline, I then power the FW HDD back on and all is good.
It seems the external FW Drive tends to hang the system. It occurs pretty frequently.
    Any recommendations?
The other issue is that when I use finder to go to a folder, I seem to have to wait for all these drive to spin up. You can hear them all start whirring.
is there a way to remove that lag?

If you recently moved to Snow Leopard you might look for new firmware for your external drive. I would also get DiskWarrior and run that on the external and consider programs like Drive Genius. You might also back it up and wipe it and restore the data. After that I'd consider looking at a new external.
Sleeping drives that take time to spin up after waking....I'd like to learn how to stop that myself. Be sure the Energy Saver in System Preferences is set to not put drives to sleep when possible. Even then my drives will go to sleep and I have up to 6 external added at times and they take quite a while to all spin up. I've never found a way to prevent that.
BTW...external USB drives on a MacPro? Really? Even for backup....

  • 4 min IOKit boot hang on Unibody Mac 10.5.7 - failure of Hard Drive?

I am experiencing a boot hang of 4 minutes (4 minutes of 0 activity) on the blue screen part of the boot process in OS 10.5.7. This hang happens on every boot.
Inspecting the disk (with Disk Verify in Disk Util) revealed errors (incorrect volume file count) I am in Italy on a work placement and my install disks are in the UK (I know, I'm an idiot...) so, on advice from the support site, I booted into single user mode to fix the issue with fsck -yf. This repaired that issue, however I am still experiencing the same boot time hang.

Notice the hang between 19:08 and 19:12 of exactly 4 minutes, this is reproduced each boot. From what I understand the IOkit is timing out at 4 minutes while trying to do something with the SATA boot disk - is this correct.
Please advise as a way to resolve the problem - is it a hard drive in need or replacement or a driver issue which occured when I updated to 10.5.7 (could be cause - around the same time). The smart status of the drive is good but I am worried that I might be having hard drive issues and looking at a failure.
The problem and logs are also reproduceable when no external devices are plugged in.
Any help you can provide would be great I am panicking a little here! I have a backup but no Install disks!!

  • Intel Mini will only boot into safe mode - hangs on ANY Mac OS volume

I have an Intel Mac Mini... the core2duo 1.83GHz or whatever.
I acquired it from it's previous owner, as it was "broken".
He could not get it to run an install disc.
It will not boot any of the Mac OS install media (DVD or CD - 10.4, 10.5, 10.6).
It will not boot/install a Linux disc (I haven't tried, but that's what I was told).
    It WILL boot/install Windows !?!?
So... anyway, I removed the HDD, and installed OS 10.6 Leopard on it (FW Target mode installs kept failing at the end - regular retail DVD). I then reinstalled the HDD back into the machine.
The system keeps hanging at the same point it would when trying to boot an install DVD - after the screen turns blue, it goes back to the gray screen, then immediately freezes.
However, I eventually discovered that it WILL boot into safe mode !
Everyone kept saying it's the logic board failure, but if it boots into safe mode, can that be true ? It doesn't seem to me that it would be hardware based in that case - unless it's just a specific component, like the Airport module or something.
The last line displayed in Verbose mode when it hangs is:
    "athset_txchainmask[5124] sc->sc.config.txchainmask 5 mask 5"
It also says something about the Airport just before that.
I tried removing the Airport module and it still hangs.
I also tried different RAM, with the same results.
I ran the 10.6.2 combo update in Safe Mode. It still hangs. Haven't tried 10.6.3 yet, though I do have it downloaded and ready to install.
This thing is driving me crazy. Please tell me there's a fix, OTHER than replacing the logic board ?!?! It just doesn't seem like it should be so complicated considering that it runs in safe mode.
    It's rare I can't figure out a Mac problem - please help !

Very strange, and getting stranger !
Ok... so, from safe boot mode, I installed Windows XP Pro using the boot camp assistant.
Everything installed perfectly. I started up from Windows, and put in the Mac Mini recovery disc, in order to load the drivers. The Boot Camp software started with Auto Run, and I clicked through to install everything. The drivers start loading...Windows reacts positively, with the system tray announcing "new hardware installed" every 30 seconds or so. Airport/WiFi IS working (in Windows), as it detected my router/network...this is where it gets F'ed up - when the installer gets through with the drivers, and installs the boot camp software for Windows - the system reboots, goes through the usual Windows startup...the desktop background appears, but no icons or start menu - then it reboots again...same thing, again, over and over in a loop.
Went back into OS X (safe boot mode). Installed reEFIt (a bootloader utility), to see if maybe I can bypass the Mac OS/Boot Camp bootloader. No luck. Install worked, but still had the same issues.
For the heck of it, I try installing Linux Mint 8. The live CD starts up OK, but only as far as the boot menu. I tried the installer first - after the splash screen, it hangs on a plain gray screen (w/o the normal linux installer language selection menu - just solid grey).
I tried running the live CD w/o the installer - the actual OS. Same thing - after the splash screen, it hangs, only it's a black screen this time. If I use verbose mode, it still seems to hang on the WiFi card.
Here's the strangest thing yet - Ok, remember, it wouldn't boot normally into ANY Mac OS volume - including the installer DVDs - only in safe boot mode...
So, I try the "hackintosh" IPC osX86 10.5.6 DVD - it boots into the installer with NO problem, WITHOUT safe boot mode ! I tried installing it unsuccessfully. I forget now which options I choose, if any, though I may try it again later and pretend it's just a non-apple PC with the same specs as the Mini (or try just the "base system", and the bootloader - then run the official Apple updates)
This last thing really makes me think it has something to do with the EFI/bios - however, I've only been able to find info on how to update it, not replace or restore it - and it's only from a working install, not forced from a flash drive or CD (plus when I do try the installer from safe boot mode, it says it's current and unneeded).
I still haven't changed the hard drive. After almost successfully installing Windows, I made the assumption the -hardware- was OK, and reassembled everything.
Currently, I'm trying a direct installation of Windows XP Pro SP2 with which I'll try installing the drivers WITHOUT the boot camp software, to see if the WiFi (Airport card) and everything else is indeed working OK (remember too that the system passed ALL the ASD 3S116 tests).
So anyway, that's the current status. Any new ideas anyone ?
    Thanks.

  • Upgraded to Firefox 12, when Firefox hangs so does Mac 10.6.8

After upgrading to Firefox 12, Firefox will hang which then causes every other program on my mac that's running to hang and have for force shutdown the computer.

    '''kthersh,'''
Does the problem with a hang in one program (Firefox) causing other running programs to hang, which then causes the entire Mac Operating System to hang, happen with any other program besides Firefox? In other words, if you browse using Safari or another browser, does the problem go away?
You said the problem goes away in Firefox [[Safe Mode]] .... is that still the case? I just wanted to make sure you aren't talking about [https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 Mac OS X Safe Mode] .
If the problem only happens when you use Firefox or if you aren't sure if it goes away in Firefox [[Safe Mode]] because it only happens from time to time, there are a few other [[Basic Troubleshooting]] steps you can try ... for example, troubleshooting plugins, a clean reinstall of Firefox or creating a new Firefox profile (see the linked article for details).
You could also try a Mac forum such as discussions.apple.com to see if anyone has had a similar problem with Firefox 12 or if anyone has a Mac-specific solution to suggest.

  • IMac Hangs when Updating Mac OS X 10.5.5

    Hi
I'm currently operating my iMac under Mac OS X 10.5.4 and wanted to install software update to 10.5.5. However, each time i try, it hangs. After I click on the install, my iMac restarts and attempts to install the new OS. But it just hangs there for a long time almost 1 hour. I had to basically do a hard reset to reboot my iMac.
I did a disk utility check and there are no there were no issues identified.
Any idea what I should do??
    Jojo

    Hello jojos:
Run repair disk from your software install DVD. Then download (even if you have done it before) the combo OS X 10.5.5 updater and apply it.

  • Captivate Hangs on Startup MAC (resolved)

    Hi to you all !
After struggling with Adobe (lack of adequate) support, I finally managed to solve my problem on my own.
    Here the rundown :
(long answer, you can skip to bottom for short answer)
    I have:
    Paid subscription Adobe CC suite
    Paid subscription of Captivate 7
    Running on Mac OSX Mavericks
All of a sudden, Captivate started to hang (crash) at startup. Called Adobe support:
First answer: " You cannot have a subscription of Captivate and a subscription of CC at the same time "
Hang up and call again: " I don't see any subscription for Captivate in your account "
Hang up and call again: " I will cancel your subscription and try to register again "
Register Again... : " I cannot get Captivate 7 subscription now 'cause the current version is Captivate 8"
Call again: " I will restore your subscription "
1 day later: " Still not working !"
Called again: " I will reset your subscription, wait 15 minutes then try again "
Not to mention that the support is being done in beautiful INDIA !! Forget about US based support !
Got fed up, installed a pirated version on another machine ! Hey ! I've got work to do here !
After that, I reverted to investigate myself and dig a bit. Here's what I did:
    (Short answer)
Open monitor to look at application log.
Noticed Captivate was flagging numerous corrupt fonts and stopped while loading one.
Open Fontbook to validate and delete faulty fonts
    Cleared font cache
    Restarted machine
    Started Captivate, works great
No thanks for Adobe support ! Crappy to say the least ! But we all know that !

That's curious since the pinwheel did appear when attempting a HD boot..
I would follow these instructions to the letter:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
It's been too many years since I used Tiger to go beyond the basics.

  • Apple TV keeps hanging with my MAC but not other Apple devices

I also have a Time Capsule connected to my MAC and I think this is why it hangs.  My Iphone works without any issues.  My daughters and her friend's Macs' and Iphones work without any issues.  They are not connected to the Time Capsule.
Are there any known conflicts between Apple TV and Time capsule ?  I have the latest firmware on my Time Capsule.  It is in (Off) Bridge mode.  Ip Address is 192.168.1.33
    Regards

    Hello Brij,
Thank you for providing all that information about what is going on.  I found an article that might help resolve the playback issues using Airplay mirroring:
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215
I recommend taking a look at the section titled, "Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring."  This article is for iOS devices as well as Mac computers, so you can skip any of the steps that refer to an iOS device.
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities!
    All the best,

  • Acrobat installer (acrobatpro11_dlm) hangs indefinitely on Mac OS X Yosemite; known issue?

I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on my machine, and downloaded the installer from cloud.adobe.com (I bought a subscription for Acrobat Pro). However, after I download and launch "acrobatpro11_dlm" from the disk image, the app just sits and does nothing (been waiting a few hours now). How can I debug this?

I just downloaded the latest installer from cloud.amazon.com. Same issue. I tried pressing Command + L after starting the acrobat installer, but I just get a system alert sound (the same sound you would also hear if you click on your desktop background of your Mac, with no files selected, and also type Command + L).

I was hoping to speak with someone from Adobe - but the "contact us" page kept circling me back to the forums.
I am a Creative Cloud member, I use Flash daily for my business - I need to get this sorted fairly quickly if possible.
If I was on my PC I'd feel confident to uninstall and reinstall but I'm not that handy with this Mac.  Hopefully it's a simple solution!

I just ran the uninstall program. That went smoothly. However, when I tried to install Flash again I get the same problem.

my computer was working fine till i tried opening a word file. the file did not open and the message i got was something like start up disc is full after which i could not quit word. i could not force quit so i pressed the power button and switched the computer off. When i restarted ,it went up to blue screen "starting mac os x" and stayed there even after 15 mins . i have a lot of work stored in my computer.could someone help me find a solution where i do not lose any data.

It seems like your startup volume may need repair. Please follow the steps in this article in the given order:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If these steps do not solve the problem and DIsk Utility shows the startup volume to be OK, you can try to free up some disk space by deleting unnecessary files in your home folder.
The easiest way to do this without an intact OS is to boot OS X from an external HDD, if you have one. Otherwise you can mount your iBook's internal HDD in target disk mode on another Mac, as described in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583

    Hi David
Does it make any difference if Organizer is already open? Rather than launching from the welcome screen, try double clicking the Organizer app from finder. Then press Cmd+G to bring up the downloader and connect your camera/device.

    any ideas?

    Greetings,
    Try this:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network>Advanced.
In the DNS Server tab, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
click Apply Now, quit System Preferences, and restart Safari to test it.
Next, do these things in order:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the problem continues.
