Dw launch failure, CS5 MacPro

I am using a MacPro, running OS 10.5.8 and have CS5.
This has happened a twice to me:
When I click to run Dw, the program will open... kind of. I get no startup screen and the options bar across the top simply says "Dreamweaver" and gives a few drop down options like "Services" along with the always there Hide/Hide Others... I can't open any of the documents that I've been working on and nothing else happens.
Last time this happened, I restarted my whole machine, and Dw then opened just fine, however I attempted a restart again and now I get nothing.
Since this has only happened twice, but I the only trend I can see is that it happens following a machine shutdown, when I boot back up in the morning. I generally keep my machine running and on "sleep" but I have shut the entire thing down a few times recently and that is the only commonality I can see in the Dw failures.
Help?
I have all of my software updated and my anti-virus is up to date. I am a graphic and web design student, in my last year at University, so I am only halfway as proficient as most of you all, so it may be something obvious, but I just can't figure it out.
Thanks.

If it's only happening recently perform the following steps.  First, if you have added any extensions recently, disable them.  Next, go to your user Library->Preferences folder and delete the .plist file with Dreamweaver in the name.  This will delete program prefernces such as window layout and other program related settings.  This will not affected saved Sites.  Then re-open DW and it may take longer while the preferences file is re-created.  See if that helps.
If it does not help, run a repair permissions from the disk utility in the utilities folder and post back when it's done.  If you have urgent work that needs to be done, you can try logging in as a different user (creating an account if one does not exist) and see if that helps.

Ok so I downloaded the most current installer CS5.1, My previous installer was version 5.0. It did install fine fully updated to my license version. I just wanted to update in case anyone in the future has a similiar experience. Too bad this advice was not offered by the "experts" here.

  • How to launch Photoshop CS5 in either 32 bit or 64 bit mode

Some of my plugins - (notibly Nik Viveza & Silver Effects Pro) only run in 32bit mode at present.   I would rather work in 64bit (I think - hard to tell if I'm getting any real benefit - will have to try some benchmarks)  I work with large files 100mb to 460mb "raw"   which can hit 2-3GB after a bit of photoshop work.
So - I'd like to have the option of launching Photoshop CS5 in either 64 bit mode or 32 bit mode, without having to drop out to finder to switch the mode back and forth.
I've tried making a copy and setting one to 32 bit mode (so I have Photoshop 64.app and Photoshop 32.app) which sort of works but it requires that I use up the ONE AND ONLY external editor setup  - which makes launching Photomatics, AutoPano Pro, and Helicon Focus a bit more difficult (not that it wasn't already do the the paucity of external editor setups.   It has another issue - every time I change from one to the other something (I suspect OS X 10.6) tells me the path has changed and do I want to update?  I have no idea what that's doing or why.   Another issue is that I get what appear to be random failures to lauch the edit - almost never works if Photoshop isn't running - sometimes doesn't work even if it is.
    So:
Lightroom needs more External Editor Setups
Photoshop needs a command line option from Lightroom to launch in 32bit mode or 64bit mode.
Need more reliable launch of editor from Lightroom.
If I'm missing a possible solution please let me know

    Vince,
You can have as many External Editors as you want. It isn't very intuitive, but you can hit the Choose button again, choose an application, and then use the "Preset:" dropdown to "Save Current Settings as New Preset..."
All your presets will show up in the "Edit in" context menu.

  • Error message when launch Photoshop CS5

Every time I launch Photoshop CS5, I get the following error message: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing.  Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."
Re-installing Photoshop does not fix the problem. AFAICT, Photoshop runs normally despite the error message. I presume this message arose because I uninstalled an earlier trial version of Photoshop CS4 before installing CS5 for the first time.
Does anybody have an ideal how to fix this? Is it really a problem? What files should be in the Adobe Application Support folder?
    Regards,
    Robert

What you could try is to uninstall CS5 and then run the Creative Suite Cleaner tool.  Then reinstall CS5.
    Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
helps resolve installation problems for CS3 thru CS6 and for Creative Cloud

Before you do anything, read thru the information on the page linked above and see if there are other options you prefer to try first.

  • Application Launch Failure error when launching various apps

When trying to open several different apps, an error message "Application Launch Failure" displays. The text of the message is:
The application "Flash Professional" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Flash> <CarbonLib> <CFMPriv_OpenScripting> "
The application listed depends on the one I am trying to launch. For example, when I try to launch Word the message is:
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Word> <CarbonLib> <CFMPriv_OpenScripting> "
I have not made any recent changes to my system and do not know how to resolve. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I am having the same issue with my Mac Power PC G4. "The application Excel could not be launched because of a shared library error: 2<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_LaunchServices>"
I was reading your advice above. I don't have Leopard yet, so I was hoping there was a way to fix this problem with out moving to Leopard.
Also one more thing. This problem started after I did the newest Safari update. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, just thought you might need to know that.
Any help you could give me would be great!

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If that doesn't help...
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open AW6.

  • Application Launch Failures after Update: shared library error

Soon after installing the latest Security and Operating System Updates, I discovered that I could no longer run Microsoft Office. I get the following error message when attempting to open any of the components: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CommonPanels>" I have tried reinstalling the updates but it hasn't helped. I can't reinstall Office because the same error message comes up when I try to open the Microsoft installer. Can anyone help? I'm stuck. Thanks.

    Again, thanks.
It's somewhat confusing. The folder /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CommonPanels. framework
contains 3 items, a gray screen marked Common Panels with a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge, a folder marked Versions (which holds folders marked A and Current), a folder marked Current (which has a small arrow pointing to the lower left edge and holds a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources) and a folder marked A (which also contains a gray screen marked Common Panels and a folder marked Resources. When I click the gray screen marked Common Panels, I get a message that there is no default application specified to open the document "CommonPanels".
I'm not sure what all that means. Are there too many Common Panel screens? Does the small arrow have any significance? I've also discovered that, in addition to not being able to run Office, I can't install any new applications (same CarbonLib error message). If you think I need to archive and install the System, I can try to do so.

  • Mac G4 Problems with "Application Launch Failure"

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my questions, so if not, please LMK where I should be asking for help.
I have a G4 running Mac OS X 10.3.9. In the last two weeks, I have had a number of errors involving an Application Launch Failure. This started immediately after I had the foolish idea of shutting down my computer for the night to save power. I selected Shut Down from the drop down menu, the computer shut down and everything seemed ok till the next morning when I started up. Since that time, I have had the application launch failure problem with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphic Converter, Yahoo Messenger, and assorted other programs.
The error message I get is for instance: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error:1<MicrosoftWord> <CarbonLib> <CFMPriv_CarbonCore> " or a variation depending on the program.
I have "restored" the computer, I have reinstalled Mac OS X 10.3.9, reinstalled the relevant Microsoft Office suite, and I still get the error message.
Does anyone have any suggestions (other than getting a new system)?
    TIA for any help.
    Ronnie Wexler

Boot from the Install CD, but do not Install. Choose Disk Utility off the Installer Menu as your first action. Select your Hard Drive and choose ( Repair ). Repeat until it comes clean (or gets stuck). Then (Repair Permissons ) once.

  • Application Launch Failure -- Transport Monitor

Since reloading Tiger (and all the updates) early this week, I have started seeing this error upon restart:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "8<Transport Monitor><Transport Monitor><HotSyncLib.PPC>"
Huh? Perhaps this has something to do with my .Mac sync icon spinning forever on my menu bar...
Can anyone translate this foreign language and suggest corrective actions?
    Thank you!

Ok so im assuming you ran an archive and install. There should be a folder in Macintosh HD that says Previous Systems (n). n is the number of previous systems eg 1, 2, 3. Open that folder, go to users and open up the shared folder. You can copy its contents to your new shared folder in your new users folder. When you run an archive and install, your shared folder gets moved into the previous systems folder and a new shared folder is created that is empty. You need to fill up that shared folder. Try it out and see if it will work.

Hi, miek. Welcome to the Discussions.
Here is some general advice on troubleshooting shared library errors.
A shared library error, in general terms, implies a missing, corrupted, or incompatible application or operating system framework. Details on frameworks and shared libraries (heavy technical reading) can be found in the "Frameworks" section of the "Software Development Overview" chapter of the Apple Developer Connection document Mac OS X Technology Overview, and the Framework Programming Guide.
Causes for shared library errors include:
    • The affected application has been corrupted and must be reinstalled.
    • Running incompatible versions of two applications with interdependent shared libraries.
    • Disk or permission corruption.
    • Corrupted operating system installation.
    To resolve shared library errors:
    1. As a start, perform a general checkup by running the procedure specified in my Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption FAQ.
    2. If the problem persists and only one application is affected, uninstall, then reinstall the affected application. See my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.
    3. If the problem persists, multiple applications are affected, or the shared library in question is part of the operating system, then reinstall Mac OS X using the Archive and Install process. See my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ.
    Good luck!
