Dynamic links to files

Hi,
i am working on a page which should dynamically link to a pdf file and a window media file.
I have designed the multiple upload form and the page that displays all the records in the database.
The issue is how do i link particular pdf/video to corresponding files so that on click pdf it opens the pdf file and on click the window media it opens a browser that displays the corresponding video file.
Trusting you for a solution.
Regards
Yomi

Hi Yomi,
you´ll need to have PHP extract the file suffix
(usually a period followed by 3 chars, like .pdf or .wmv) from the recordset value which represents the "file" column, and establish a PHP if/else condition which returns different links depending on the result -- the PHP function "substr" (http://de2.php.net/substr) will be of great help, example:
if (substr(strtolower($row_rsqueryname['column_name']), -4) == ".pdf") {
display link to the PDF file
else if (substr(strtolower($row_rsqueryname['column_name']), -4) == ".wmv") {
display link to a popup window playing the wmv file

  • Dynamic Link Vs. File- Export- Media

I'm probably about to open a can of worms, but could ya'll take a minute and debate the pros and cons of Dynamic Link vs Exporting?  As far as I can tell, exporting triples or quadruples the time involved and I need to produce quick results.
And as I am completely new to the Creative Suite and video editing in general, I struggle with the power and depth of the Export options.
Under which scenarios would you choose to export with AME when you can twice as easily import Premiere Sequences as Encore Timelines?
    thx in advance

A nice advantage to Dynamic Link is that you can import your assets into Encore and manage the transcode settings there to maximize quality with the given disc space.
For example, if you have 2 hours of material for the DVD, along with menus and such, you can trial-and-error the transcode settings inside Encore to get everything to fit on the disc at the best possible quality.
You can of course acheive the same thing through the proper planning and bitrate calculating...but by using Dynamic Link, you save yourself from that task when you either don't have the time or the confidence to calculate your transcoded asset sizes.
Another nice thing is being able to make changes in Premiere Pro and have those changes updated in Encore. Again, with the proper planning, you can avoid having to go back to your Premiere Pro project in many instances, but it can be very handy to link in a couple of sequences, export a quick Flash DVD project for the client and be able to make any needed changes in Premiere Pro that are immediately imported to Encore.
There are also "Edit Original" functions in Encore, but I have found Dynamic Link to be more reliable.
As for whether it is faster or better quality to use AME over Encore for transcoding assets, I really haven't ever tested that. My guess is that results are probably pretty similar between the two.
I'm not aware of any bugs that exist with the Dynamic Link workflow at this time either, so again, probably going to be similar results between the two.

  • Dynamic Link / Illustrator files issue

Hi all, I removed AICC from my system, keeping the 2014 version, and all of a sudden AE can't recognise .ai files to edit dynamically. I guess it's a result of the above, but why, and how do I assiciate files to CC2014 application on my windows system?

This stuff uses your system's default file associations.

  • Conform error on dynamic linked AE file

    W64, CS5 MC
We do a weekly news story which has the same title plates week after week.
Each week, after I cut the story, I import a sequence from an earlier project made up of opening and closing titles, a logo watermark, and same intro music. Part of the sequence is two After Effects CS5 comps.
Each time I open ANY project which contains these AE sequences I get the little red cross bottom right corner, which says:
"An unspecified error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file: D:\my_file_path\my_AE_File my_AE_file 48000_15.CFA"
Note that the end part of the message, 48000_15.CFA is not known to me (I didn't name a file that way).
I've cleared the cache files and cleaned the cache database.
Anyone have a clue what's going on here?
    Matthew P

Yeah, CS5 does this. It's not a big deal. Near as I can tell, CS5 gets confused and actually tries import the conformed audio file--makes no sense. Just ignore it

  • Can I work on a Premiere Pro file, which has dynamic links, while it is exporting?

Will further edits interfere with or change the export? What if I make changes to a dynamically linked file in After Effects? I just want to make sure it is okay to make changes during an export.

What version of Premiere are you using?
    For CS6:
When you send a Premiere Sequence to Media Encoder via the "Queue"
option, Premiere saves a copy of the Premiere Project here (Win):
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
Media Encoder uses this copy as the reference while encoding,
so you are able to continue to work in Premiere without problems.
However, Media Encoder (and its 'Temp' Premiere Project) will
continue to look to the original Dynamically Linked Ae files for encoding.
If you want to continue working on an Ae comp while an encode
in in progress in Media Encoder, you should save an incremental copy
of your Ae file (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) before you make any changes.
If you do this, it will not interfere with the ongoing encoding.

  • Dynamic Link files "Missing"

I have never had an issue with Adobe Dynamic Linked AE files before, but upon rebooting my computer this morning and trying to work on a timeline with AE generated Title files - they are not there - I just have the red "Media Missing" where my titles should be. They all reimport just fine - and work - until I restart Pro....then they are gone again. Help?

I tried this solution(from the Wiki):
I'm a developer on the Premiere team, and we are aware of this issue. Most of you have already figured out that changing the offending clip somehow and undoing your change gets around the "media offline" problem. Unfortunately there is no way I know of to get the rendered preview files back.
A quick way to "reset" your timelines so as to work around the media offline bug is to turn off track visibility on the first track for all sequences that show the problem, then turn visibility back on (or undo). You will have to do this every time the project is loaded.
This problem will apparently be addressed in the Premiere Pro 3.1.2 update.
My dynamic linked AE Title files still appear as un-linked(Media Offline)upon restart - no matter if I re-imprt them or link them again via the right-click menu.

  • Dynamic Link does not open Project on 2nd computer

Has anyone run into this situation?
Creating a  Premiere ver CS6 project on the mac and creating a dynamic linked comp in Premiere to a After Effects comp works well until the project file is shared with another computer that did not create the project.
When the files are opened on another MAC, same CS6 version the Premiere project will not open. It cannot find the linked comp. It will NOT open the project file what so ever!   I go back to the original computer that created the project and render out the AE linked comp files and import them as movies by replacing the dynamic linked comp files then resave the project. (Note: I have not deleted the comp files in the project, only on the timeline). I then try to open the files from the other computer the Premiere project will still NOT open.  Again, back to the original computer that created the file, open the project and DELETE in the project pane any files that are AE linked comp files, even though they are NOT being used now in the timeline, resave the project, now the project will OPEN on the other computer.
All these files are on a standalone portable drive, the Premiere project scratch files are all specified to be on this standalone drive as well when the project is opening. It seems if any file is a "Linked comp file" and is not opened on the computer that created it, it will not open the project file. It does not act like a misplaced, missing file that it will ask you to located the file, or will still open the project regardless if it cannot find the file(s).
if your sharing project files or getting a new computer and try to open up a project file from the previous computer with linked comps you will NOT be able to do so.  This has been my experience so far with CS6 on the Mac.

    Steve

  • Issue with linking a file to encore on a Win7 64 bit machine

    Hello,
I have recently upgraded my PC to Win7 64bit professional OS. The PC has 8G of memory and an AMD 6 core CPU.
After the upgrade, I reinstalled my Creative Suite 4 to the machine. When I have created a sequence in Premiere Pro and then try to dynamically link the file to Encore, Encore keeps generating a 0 byte file.
I have reinstalled the software multiple times and even on a different machine. I get the same result.
Curious has anyone ever run into this same issue? What is the solution?

You must create a timeline from the asset (in this case the PR sequence you sent to Encore).
Then you must tell Encore to transcode the asset (e.g. right click on the PR sequence and pick "transcode now."
Then you build to a disk or image - the final part is what produces a disk.

  • Trouble with dynamic link manager in starting a cs6 product

i just re-installed cs6 on a new hard drive.  Now, I get an error message when I try to load Photoshop 64-bit.  Dynamic Link Manager has stopped working.
I applied the DLM update, applied all the updated to all the programs in cs6, and still getting the DLM error message.

Tech support was finally able to correct the problem.  He went into the appdata folder and renamed the dynamic link manager file.  Then he restarted Photoshop,  which then automatically recreated the file.  Such a simple solution.

  • Overriding automatic replacing of AE projects with incremental file names in Dynamic Link (CS5.5)

    Hi everyone,
I've been searching all corners of the internet for an answer to this question including this forum and the Adobe help documents, so I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before.
First off, we're using Premiere Pro CS5.5. We have recently switched from a FCP6 to a Premiere workflow and we're really enjoying the Adobe Dynamic Link feature. Unfortunately, we've discovered a bit of a problem with our workflow.
All our AE projects are named something like "heb_alef_01.aep", "heb_alef_02.aep", "kor_hhh_01.aep", "kor_hhh_02.aep". These don't correspond to different versions of the same videos, but rather ...01.aep is video #1 and ...02.aep is video #2.
You can probably see how this causes a problem when it runs into Premiere's feature of automatically updating project files if it finds an exact filename match in that directory with a higher number at the end. If I try to import "kor_hhh_01.aep" it will instead give me "kor_hhh_02.aep", for example.
I noticed that in CS6, a checkbox has been added to the Preferences pane which will prevent this from automatically happening, but I wanted to know if any options exist for Premiere CS5.5 users. If necessary we can adjust our file naming structure, but I really didn't want to deal with the far-reaching implications of that if possible.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Are each of these different AE project files pointing to clips within the same Pr project?  (Seems like that may be the case..?)  If so, it is highly recommended to only have 1 AE project per Pr project, and just have that include all of the comps corresponsing to the clips in Pr.  Then, when re-opening the Pr file, click on "edit original" on any of the DL clips which will open your AE project, and any subsequent DLs that you send over will stay in your original AE project.
Disregard if I mis-read your problem and my advice is irrelevant.

  • How to keep files from disappearing when using Dynamic link to AE from PremProCS4?

I am at my wits end here and hope someone can offer a solution.  I use Dynamic Link in PremProCS4 to link a clip in my timeline to AfterEffects.  I follow the instructions in my book and everytime I close my files and reopen..I loose the clip along with the effects...I get the place card instead.  Here are the steps I do as per the Adobe Classroom in a Book Explains:
I double click on my .MTS file in the Project Board so it comes up on my Source Screen.
I take select the part of the clip I wish to use in my timeline and drag it to the appropriate spot on a video layer.
I then right click the "clip" and select "Replace With After Effects Comp"
I then name the new file.  name or whatever.aep
    It opens in AE
I then apply two simple effects... keying and a cartooning effect I use from NewBlue Cartooner.
As instructed I then go directly back to PremPro and do a "render" by pressing the Enter Key.  This does not work since I only get a yellow bar above the clip instead of a red on???
So then I save the PremPro project and close it then go to the AE project, save and close it.
When I reopen PremPro the file has a place card in it and in AE it says I am missing a file.
I have tried many different ways to do this process including re-importing the .MTS file.
I can close PremPro and reopen it and all is the same as long as I don't close the AfterEffects project.  Once AE is closed it looses the file.  On a note here I keep all my computer source files in the same place and it never changes plus they are in my PPro Project as well.  I never change the names so this isn't this reason.
Is there a tried and true method to select a piece of clip in the video layer in Prem Pro and add effects from AE and not have it misplace the files?
    Thanks  Kate

Hi Mylenium, and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Your idea of renaming comps got me to thinking..hmm.
So I went back with a fresh mind this morning and tried something else..and it worked...so far anyway.
So far I figured it out...
Since the normal process to do this doesn't work for me ..and apparently many others..here is the solution for those of you having similar issues.
In PremPro select the desired clip you wish to place effects on
    Rename it and save
R click and "Replace with AE composition"
    Name new file
You will see three files pop up in AE in the project panel.
The original source clip .. in my case.. shows an icon that lets me know it isn't the true file.
Highlight this file with a click and then go Ctrl H (for PCs)
The group of computer source clips you use for your project will come up.. double click on the original clip you had imported into your PPro project.
The source file icon in AE will change to an icon that denotes the true file...save
Go to your still open Ppro project and make sure it carried the effects over..save.
Now you can save and close the AE project.
So for this works for me today and I hope this helps anyone else dealing with a similar issue.
    Thanks.

Hi Curt, and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Its odd how I've been trying to figure this one out for a long time and I tried your suggestion but it didn't make any difference..darn.
In the AE forum they say this is quite common and no one really knows why...double darn.
So I went back with a fresh mind this morning and tried something else..and it worked...so far anyway.
So far I figured it out... I guess I just needed to ask the question and write it all out to help get my brain working in the right direction:

  • The procedure entry point ADAdPolicyEngine_DidEnterStation could not be located in the dynamic link library C:Program Files/x86/itunes.dll.

I'd download the latest ITunes and I started it and it has this error message:
"The procedure entry point ADAdPolicyEngine_DidEnterStation could not be located in the dynamic link library C:Program Files/x86/itunes.dll"
I reinstalled ITunes several times and it got the same message. Please help.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
I've not seen this message before, but it has the same pattern as those discussed in the first and third boxes, suggesting that you've got an outdated .dll file that needs replacing. You should find iTunes.dll in the iTunes folder in Program Files or Program Files (x86). Delete it and then repair iTunes from the control panel. If that doesn't work go for the full tear down and rebuild.

  • In cs6, my preview files are not saving on my Dynamic Link AE comps when i reopen the project

i cant figure out the life of me what seems to be the problem
This has been going on for a long time for me, dont know if anybody else has this problem, but for me, when i render out the whole entire sequence, everthing has the green bar, i save, i quit and reopen, the red bar appears and i have to re render all the Dynamic link comps again! its really annoying, i feel like its just collecting more space every time i do this
Any fix for this, and here are my specs
    Macbook Pro early 2011
Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB

It happens sometimes that preview files get lost.  There's no definitive fix yet, but you could try this:
