If you have installed 3rd party themes to your memory card, and then choose to use one of these, this will possibly trigger the error message that you are seeing...
Steve at AAS recommends installing themes to the phone memory and not to the memory card...

  • N95 8Gb USB Data Transfer Mode not working

I have a bizarre problem with USB Data transfer.
    a) I upgraded to the new 15.x firmware with the correct HKCSL package - 0557980
    b) I connected PC #1 in data transfer mode with no issue and copied a bunch of installers onto the mass memory and went on to install them - to the PHONE memory.
    c) Later in the day, connected PC #2 and did the same with the last few applications.
    d) Next day tried to connect PC #1 and it didn't work
    e) Thought I must have an application using the MASS storage but checked and not so - all apps on Phone memory.
    f) Went to PC #2 and tried - Data transfer mode works - no problem.
    g) Tried PC #1 again, and still not working. I get all the right messages (Mass storage cannot be used at this time etc) on the handset, and I get the "safely remove hardware" option appearing on the PC - but I don't get a drive letter assigned in the Windows Explorer.
    h) I have tried it on PC #3 and this works as well - no problem.
    1. The working PC's both have PC Suite 2-Beta installed, while the problem PC has no PC suite at all.
    2. I have downloaded the Nokia-connectivity_cable_driver_rel_6_85_10_0 and it installs properly - giving all the expected wireless... options in Device Manager, but I still don't get a drive letter assigned with the basic data transfer mode on this problem PC #1
So the issue seems to be with a PC that has never seen any version of PC suite, but it worked straight after the firmware upgrade.
    All PC's are XP SP2.
Any suggestions on anything else to try ?
    Regards

    SOLVED by:
    - attaching N95, selecting USB Data Transfer Mode
    - Going to Device Manager
    - Selecting the USB Mass Storage Device for N95
    - "Uninstall"
    - Remove cable when N95 says its safe to
    - Re-attach cable
The PC then re-discovered and reloaded the drivers including the mass storage which then worked normally.
No idea what messed it up in the first place though.

  • Not able to connect N82 to pc in data transfer mod...

I am not able to connect N82 in data transfer mode( other modes are working fine) though i installed latest connectivity cable driver for N82. It says that it could not find any suitable driver(after search cd provided and online).
My current firmware version of N82(RM-313) is 10.0.046. Operating system is Windows Vista. Will the firmware update fix the problem or I have to contact customer care center?

If phone is set to 'data transfer" mode on user interface and USB plugged into PC N82 behaves as a Windows USB mass storage device and you are saying that Windows Vista can't recognize this?
Ya thats is what the problem is. As you said the phone was to behave like USB pendrive in data transfer mode but i am getting this error.
:I first connected the N82 with cable Nokia CA-101 provided with handset and selected the data transfer mode. Then the windows(Vista) icon would appear in task bar showing windows is installing the driver. Then a window pops up saying driver not found and requests permission to search online for driver. When I choose search online for suitable driver, it searches for a while and says no driver found. (net is working prefectly fine). The icon disappears from the bar and phone is inaccessible from windows explorer. But USB indicator on mobile screen is active until i disconnect using mobile connectivity settings.
Actually i wanted this mode for installing the Nokia Maps which requires the phone to be in data transfer mode.

  • N95-8GB - Not able to connect in Data Transfer Mod...

    Hi all,
Recently I bought N95-8GB and installed PC Suite which comes along with the phone in my OS Windows Vista Home Premium. When I try to connect my phone in Data Transfer mode, I am getting message "Found new hardware - Windows needs to install driver software for your unknown device" and I am not able to find any driver for the same.
Please help me out to solve this problem.
    Regards,
    S.Suresh

just let the wizard run through and select the options that windows will search for the friver itself. the dirvers are included in nokia Pc suite package.
YOu can also try to use the standard NOkia PC Suite from www.nokia.com/pcsuite or generally look for a fresh version of NSeries PC Suite from thephone web-pages, the CD-ROM versions are normally outdated

  • N95 8GB reboots periodically in data transfer mode

I have a new N95 8GB running firmware v20. Unfortunately, when I use the genuine USB cable and select "Data Transfer Mode" the phone reboots 60 seconds after I connect the cable (and thereafter each 60 seconds when I don't touch the phone).
I have tried with a non-genuine cable and the behaviour is the same.
Coincidentally the "Power Save Time-out" is set to 60 seconds. When I change this to another value, say 40 seconds, then the above rebooting happens every 40 seconds.
This appears to be a phone bug and makes it extremely difficult to use data transfer mode, unless you can transfer files within the power save time-out period, or unless you are prepared to press a button on the phone within this period.
    **Nokia please fix this**

Well, rotateme works perfectly for me and i have a n95 8gb too.So there are two things that might happening.
1.You are doing something wrong with the whole installation(does rotateme works when you install it?)
2.You downloaded your self a corrapted or somekind of a virus or a bug .sis file and installed it to your phone.
Why dont you try to download one other rotateme file for you?You can find plenty rotateme from a lot of users.I can send you mine,if you want send me an e-mail and i`ll send to you the .sis file that i used and as i said,it works fine for me.
    Peace

    Hi There
Im not sure this would work for you all but i came accross this discussion after suffering the same problem and after pulling my hair out i finally solved it and thought it was only fair i posted how.
I had tried all options on here apart from deleteing everything off my memory card ( i wasn't keen on this option ) i checked the running apps and it just showed that standby was running,
So i thought i would try uninstalling recently installed item one by one, i had recently installed some  software called CALL RECORDER  and although it was not showing up that it was running it was in the background after deleting this the problem was solved ,
So try and think if there are any apps that you have installed that may be running in the background but not showing up , i would advise deleting these one by one as i did and if it still doesnt work you can reinstall it ,
    hope this helps
BUT EVEN AFTER ALL THIS I STILL LOVE MY N95 8GB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loaded Nokia Maps on an N70, and am attempting to use the Nokia Map Loader.
However, when I run it, it gives me a message saying I need to connect the phone using USB in data transfer mode.
I know when I plug in my 3250, it gives me a little menu, one of the options of which is said data transfer mode. However, I get no such option on my N70.
How can I get it into data transfer mode?
    Max.

Start the Nokia Map Loader to transfer the required map data onto your memory card. On these mobile devices it is not possible to transfer map data via USB cable and PC Suite."

Apparently it tries to mount the device but it gets an IO error, what could it be the reason in your opinion? It appears as a hardware level error to me, do you think is it so?

  • N95 crashes in Data transfer via USB cable, help?

I ve been using my N95 with no problems for more than a year. Sometime ago I bought a new 8Gb Micro SDHC memory card, it was recognised by the phone and worked perfectly. But after the card was stored with data for more than 1gb, the phone crashes everytime I try to copy even the smallest file on the memory card through Data transfer mode via USB cable. Than I try to copy a file an error message is displayed in Windows XP and the phone reboots. The strangest thing that I can copy without a problem even a 500 mb movie file to the phone if the stored space on the memory card is say like 985mb, but after that it will crash even with the copying a 10 kb text file.
    Any help would be appreciated.

No, its not the file system or Memory card itself - cause transfering a data through a card reader works fine and the phone recognize correctly everything transfered. Can it be the case of USB cable driver? May be I need to install it or go for a newer version? BTW, I removed Nokia PC Suite from my notebook - cause I dont used it much, but this program still used a lot of my PC resources without asking to. I belive that PC Suite is not nesessary for using the phone through a Data Transfer mode?

  • Dma interrupt transfer modes in 6602

I am using four simultaneous counters of a 6602 in continuous buffer modes
using traditional DAQ. Gates used are PFI38 PFI 26 PFI 18 PFI 10.
When I use set DAQ Device Information.vi to specify the "data transfer
mode for GPCTR # " either in DMA (3 of them) or interruption mode ( one of
them), I am not sure which # to use for the GPCTR #.
In other words, must I specify GPCTR0, 3, 5 in DMA and GPCTR7 in interrupt?
Otherwise stated, the simple fact that I use predefined PFI would associate
the GPCTR concerned or, else, are these GPCTR defined as GPCTR0, 1, 2, and 3
in the order I open their configurations in my Labview program.
There is no clear definition of what GPCTR # actually mean in the Labview
    references.
I have the feeling that some counters generating 15000 counts/sec do not use
DMA but interrupt transfer modes instead.
    Gérard

GPCTR# is the general purpose counter resource you are using, there are eight 32-bit counters on the 6602 card.  Unfortunately there are only 3DMA channels which means that if you plan on 4 very high speed buffered counting acquisitions then you could have some trouble since interrupts run much slower than the DMA channels.  I have had no problem using a mix of interrupts and DMA channels for continuously buffered counting with 4-8 counters at a time but the collection rate was only a few KHz faster than this the buffering using interrupts can not keep up an will overrun causing a "buffer overrun" error.  If you really need many highspeed buffer counters running simultaneously you could try using 2 cards but this seems costly (RTSI cable will allow multi-card synchronization).

  • N95 data transfer by cable.

Each time I connect my n95 to my lappy for a data transfer I'm unable to do so. I get this message on my phone  - 'Unable to activate data transfer mode. Mass Memory is in use by another application.'
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

If you've set the phone to store its messages on the memory card E: instead of in the phone's memory C: then you'll get this message. If you have done anything that means data on E: has to be available permanently to the system (stored the active theme or new fonts on E: for example) then E: will be unavailable for mass storage.
In this case, the only way to transfer data to the memory card is in PC Suite mode.
    Menu > Tools > USB
Set "Ask on connection" to "Yes". You can then choose PC Suite mode next time you connect the phone.
Alternatively, a bit less convenient, you can switch the phone off, remove the memory card and use it in a card reader connected directly to the computer.

    Hi,
maybe format of video files you've copied to the device memory are not readable by phone. Did you convert it using Nokia Video Manager (part of Nokia PC Suite) on 3gp or mp4.
And if you connect phone with PC use PC Suite mode instead of the USB. You will have acces to all yours phone memories
