EA3:  Open .sql file in current connection?

I just upgraded from SQL Developer 1.2 to 1.5 EA3 and love the new Files tab in the navigator since I have tons of .sql files out on my local hard drive.
The only inconvenience I have opening and running one of these SQL statements is that I must reselect which connection to use for each file that is opened. I have over 50 database/user connection combinations so searching down through that drop-down list gets old fast. Most of the time I'm already going to have a database connection open and want the opened file to share that active connection.
I think either: 1) dragging the file from the navigator to an open worksheet with a connection, or 2) right-clicking on the file in the navigator and having an additional menu option "Open with current connection" would be a good way the do this.
Can I do this somehow in 1.5 EA3 or do I need to open a feature request?

This was planned for this version, but it seems to have fallen out. FWIW, you can still vote on http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:8861959326134540::NO::P39_ID:4402

  • SQL Developper Version 4.1.0.19: cannot open sql files with file type .pck

    Hi
I can't open sql files with file type .pck. They are opened as a package. The icon is a package too. (Worked fine in 4.0)
    My settings:
    Thanks for any help

    Thanks, but that doesn't help
To specify it more precisly: I can open such a file, but it is not opened as a sql file. The icons you see above left are the icons of the files (not of the packages).

  • EA2 right click to open SQL file/opening file creates new connection

    EA2, win XP pro, sp2
    1. Right click to open an existing SQL file missing from the context menu.
    2. Even after I set my default path to look for scripts, it opens in Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\SQL Developer
    3. When I open a new file or script, it creates a new tab in which I have to pick the connection. In 1.2, it used the connection of the tab I was in. Am I missing a setting for this?

1 I suspect the Open File item might be missing because it is integrated with version control and they have left that outUse the main toolbar / menubar Open. Ctrl-O also works.
The local context menu "Open" was removed not due to version control but to reduce the clutter on worksheet's toolbar & menubar.
Though it might have been convenient, I think when you get used to, you'll appreciate that we want to save the space for other really context sensitive menu's for worksheet.

  • How to "disconnect" opened file from current connection?

    Hello guys,
    I have this problem:
Lets say I have one SQL Developer opened, and I am connected to two different servers. Now I open a file (package body) from my hard drive and it will automatically connect to one of those opened connection. It will connect probably to the newest connection...
The problem is I don't want to connect the file to any connection because I want just to modify it using SQL Developer editor and save it back to my hard drive. I don't want to compile it by accident !!! How can I do this?
The only way I found is to open another instance of SQL Developer, do not open any connection and open the file there...
    Thanks for help

AFAIK it's not possible, but I rarely work with file based procedures so there may be some tricks I'm missing.
If you want you can add a feature request to the exchange.

  • Can't open sql file in subfolders.

    Hi,
    1. I can’t open any file by Windows Browser, right click, and open with SQL Developer if the file is located in subfolder which is several levels deep from C:\.
    2. I can’t use Files (from SQL Developer) to browse subfolders than 7 or 8 levels deep from C:\.
In the first case SQL Developer starts (if not running) without to open the file. If the sql file is located in first 3, 4 levels of sub folders – works.
In the second case it just stopped working. In the panel (Files) Loading … appears and nothing.
    I change Tools/Preferences/Navigation level from 20 to 50 – same!
    Windows 7 Enterprise 8 GB
SQL Developer Version 3.1.07 Build MAIN-07.42
    JDK 1.6
Moreover SQL Developer uses 700 MB memory. It was 200 - 300 MB on Windows XP.
If somebody has similar experience - please help?

  • EA1 - Exception when SQL Developer opens SQL files on startup

If I close SQL Developer with a file open, that file is automatically reopened when restarting SQL Developer. This works fine, but for each .sql file which does open, I get the following exception listed in the Logging Page's Log tab:
    SEVERE     147     0     oracle.ide.IdeCore     Exception firing mainWindowOpened to oracle.dbtools.sqlworksheet.sqlview.SqlEditorController$2@xxxxxxx
This doesn't happen for PL/SQL files (ie .pks, .pkb, etc) - just for .sql files.

Fixed this in development code. Thx.

  • Open .sql file, pop out error message box

When I double-click the .sql file, sql developer open this file, but windows pop an error message box: windows can't find c:\aaa\bbb.sql. Make sure you type the file name correctly...... I don't know why?
my sql developer version is 1.0.0.15.57, OS is windowsxp.

This is a known problem. There is some problem with the way sqldeveloper registers.

  • Double click to open .sql files with sql developer on mac osx

    hi,
I am trying to double click a .sql file and open it with SQL Developer on Mac OSX lion. I have associated .sql files to SQL Developer. On clicking the file it opens the SQL developer application but does not open the actual .sql file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Did you find any solution to your problem ? My SQL Developer worked fine and could open additional SQL files. Now it only opens the first one when starting SQL Developer. Additionnal files cannot be opened. Even running sqldeveloper.exe from command line with a SQL file as parameter doesn't help.
I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit, but the environment may not necessarily be the cause.

  • Unable to open *.SQL files is v2.1

    Hello,
I just 'upgraded' to v2.1 from Version 1.5.0.53 and I can no longer open any of my SQL files correctly. They open in v2.1 as unreadable characters. Any ideas?? I have had to go back to Version 1.5.0.53 so that I can continue to work. Any comments appreciated. Thanks.
PS the *.sql files still open correctly in Version 1.5.0.53

    Hello Evita,
I checked the properties for the *.sql files:
    -opens with SQL Developer
    -Content Type: Text
Still the same result. This does not make much sense to me as I have been using SQL Developer for a couple of years and have never had an issue with opening the SQL files.
Any further commenst appreciated. Thanks again.
    Alun
PS I also tried various fonts in the Code Editor preferences ... no luck.
PPS if I cut & paste into the code editor, then save via v2 ... re-open in v2 it works (it does not re-open correctly in Version 1.5.0.53!!!). So if I go through the 100s of SQL files this is my migration strategy ;-) Ouch!

  • New PC, not opening PDF files, Error not connecting to DDE server. Help

I purchase a new Windos 8 CP. Its not opening my PDF files.  The error message is "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server".  Windows 8 is new to me.

It's "regedit" - a tool to edit the Windows registry.  But I don't recommend using it if you have no knowledge of it.
However, there is a minor registry change that may fix your problem; we can do it with a little reg script.  Download, unzip, then run the attached registry script.

  • Open SQL Oracle Connection Issue

Sorry for creating mutiple threads. I was having internet issue and for some reason i click save 4 times it save it 4 times. I try to delete the rest of the thread i was not able to.. sorry.
    Hi,
I am trying to connect to a Oracle staging area to load data to Essbase. I am running Essbase 11.1.2 on UNIX. I have the tnsnames entry entry for the staging area. So, i create a load rule and select Open SQL to create the connection the to staging area. I read in the Oracle document that I have to enter $OCI$<SERVICE NAME> when enter the user and password to the database i'm getting this error:
Error: 1021090 Can not load EssOCI shared library [libessociS.a]. Make sure that the required binaries are present with correct environment variables set
Does anybody have any ideas the issue is? Do you have to create an ODBC connection on the essbase that points to the staging area? I'm not sure if I had to create an ODBC connection when I was working on with SQL when Essbase was running on Windows.
