Early upgrade finger pointing: Apple and Verizon

I think I understand the Apple side if they don't want people buying their product at a discount, then upgrading to the next product at a discount.  Our issue is that we have a contract with Verizon for a feature phone, we need a smart phone due to a new job, and we're a month away from the updgrade date (I know, just wait, but we've been dealing with the work situation since last February).  This would be our first iphone, and we want the 4s not the 5. Verizon says they'll upgrade to any other smart phone, just not the iphone...This is frustrating - Apple staff blames Verizon, Verizon blames Apple.  Anyone been successful in an early upgrade to an Apple product with Verizon?  thanks.

same here about to get lawyer involved, got on family manage i have sons phone off during certain hours, also on our wife, look at his usage next day and its in middle of night and my own phone has data usage too when i know i was not using. was told smart phones do this and turn off data when on wifi, when i do that i dont get text or other messages needed, what is verizon going to do to fix this. it was never disclosed when got the 5c or any smart phone that had to turn off data on wifi, i though it did automatically, has anyone got help on this is veizon fixing ...if not guess cost me more with lawyer to get out of contract but if going to be charged every month for data we never used then be worth it for verizon to fix this.

  • HT201210 i have been trying for 2 weeks to update my iphone 4 to the ios 6. Apple and verizon tried to help me at my house and they told me that i needed to connect to itunes well i have and it hasnt updated it keeps saying trouble shoot error what should

    i need help updating my phone to the ios 6 i have contacted verizon and they have called apple however it would not update at my house my boyfriend have the iphone 4 and his updated fine. they told me to use itunes on a computer to do it and it still will not work it keeps saying trouble shooting or unable to download i do not understand why. is there any other option.

  • IPad air 2 (direct from Apple) and Verizon -- not possible?

    I bought a cellular iPad Air 2 directly from Apple. I would like to (also) use it with Verizon. I went to a Verizon store and asked if I could get a Verizon SIM card, but the they claimed that is not possible. You can only use the iPad Air 2 on Verizon if you buy directly from Verizon. Is that true? I asked in the Apple store, but did not get a clear answer.

    You can activate the iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 on any network, you just need the proper SIM card, and you have the freedom to change carriers, but will have to change SIM cards.  For some reason, the people in the Apple store are not well informed about the interchangeability of the new iPads. There are two kinds of SIMs now which cover all 4 current carriers: the Apple SIM, which can be used on AT&T, Sprint & T-Mobile, and the Verizon which is exclusively for Verizon.
    I read up about the features of the new iPads, and the interchangeability of the new iPads is the feature that convinced me to go ahead and spurge on a new one.  I bought an "Open Box Buy" iPad Mini 3, and when i trieed to activiatee the cellular, I found that it had an AT&T branded SIM, and I got an "Invalid SIM" message.  I made an appointment at the Genius Bar at teh Apple Store, and explained that I wanted to activate on Verison and needed a Verison SIM.  The guy who was helping me said he didn't even know you could do that.  He went in the back, talked to someone to verify that I could switch carrieers.  They gave me the Verion SIM, I activated it and all is well.  Read the articles linked below, and stand yuor ground since Apple isnt giving their emplyees the latest info.  My theory is that Apple isn't making the interchangeability well known because they don't want to aileante their carriers.  (I'm sure Apple willl save a lot of money not having to keep inventory of iPads for each of their carriers, and instead only have to keep 2 different types of SIM cards on hand instead).

  • Since updating the software on my iPhone 3gs it has developed the so called "white screen of death". The phone has not been dropped or damaged in anyway, the problem only developed after software upgrade. Rung apple and they were less than helpful

I have tried the solution which seems to pop up most of holding down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds but this hasnt helped at all. Tried ringing apple, who were less than helpful and disinterested as the phone is out of warranty. I am hoping there is a solution which doesnt mean shelling out for a new phone! any ideas?

    Like most people waiting months to get  a Droid Bionic, I had one in my hands at a Verizon kiosk at Costco A couple hours ago.  Paid for but not processed.  During processing, their computer showed I was not eligible.  I've been on the unlimited data plan for 22 months and I might add that the My verizon moble app states I am eligible for an upgrade.
    Upon calling Verizon, their representative told me that "EARLY upgrades were only available at Verizon Stores and she would be happy to send me one or I could go to a Verizon Store.  Of course, she would not give me an equivalent Costco deal.  (280$ for the phone and 160$ of free accessories)  Their strategy is obvious, however,  a few dollars they would make on the phone are definitely off set by the 115.00 I pay them every month.  (2760.00$ over 2 years)  Does everyone realize that when you trade in your phone to them for a gift card. You are stuck with a data plan and no phone if your new phone is returned for any reason?    Your call Verizon!!

    Each company has their own promotions and programs. Since you do not qualify to upgrade under normal conditions you can only upgrade at Verizon. You act like this is some sort of scam or trick by Verizon. When in reality it is a special program they offer valued customers who want to get into a newer phone sooner than their 2 year agreement...
    Resellers ,like the grocery store you want to buy your phone at, are limited in what they can do. And really that is a good thing, if you look at how many mistakes stem from these 3rd party sellers to begin with already..
    You pay for service, not phone every month. Service costs most to maintain

  • Early upgrade to an iPhone?

    I've been told this can't be done due to the iPhone agreements with Apple and Verizon, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
    My old enV Touch is on it's last legs- it often won't stay on, screen gets locked up, the phone hangs up in the middle of a call...shuts down for no good reason...it's generally unusable. I'm eligible for an upgrade on Sept 2nd and have been waiting patiently for my upgrade to get an iPhone, and wonder if it's possible to get it a little over two weeks early? Has anyone done this? I have my heart set on an iPhone.

    I did this successfully (with an iPhone) but it was only about 3 days early. I did it (mostly) over the phone with customer service. My rep had to get it approved by her boss, which she did. She was supposed to either complete the transaction over the phone (and ship the phone) OR call the exact store I planned to go to and tell them that I was coming. She wrongly told me that she "put a note in the system" and that I could go into any store I wanted and tell them about this magical "note". This DID NOT work. The store manager I spoke to was good enough to approve it, though, once I explained what happened. 
    I think your best bet is to call, rather than ask in a store.

  • Talk to someone about Early Upgrade or switch?

    Hi all
    I'm wanting to get some feedback before we look into this further. For some background, my husband and I have already recently had problems with Verizon making what should have been a simple trade-in for credit a complete nightmare. Verizon didn't even resolve it in the end - it was up to us to figure out the solution and hunt down all the right information when a Verizon employee should have been able to advise us on it in five minutes. We also got different answers from the online chat, calling customer service, and each of the two corporate stores in our area gave different information as well.
    I'm heading overseas for 3-4 weeks in late July, and my line is eligible for upgrade in August. I would like to look into upgrading BEFORE my trip as I will need to use the phone for business (and staying in contact with my husband) while over there, and the phone I am currently using is sluggish and unresponsive much of the time.
    Bearing the trouble we've had with Verizon in the past, does anyone think it is worth contacting someone to find out if an early upgrade would be possible (and if so and you've had experience with this, any suggestions for who to contact would be great), or should we just look into moving carriers once our contracts are up?
    (We have looked into the Edge program and unfortunately it would not work for us.)

  • I don't want to upgrade to FireFox 6 and it is downloaded but not installed

    Firfox 5.0.1 has already download the new 6.0 update, but I have not restarted my machine, and I DO NOT want to upgrade!!
    How can I prevent it from being updated?
    There are major issues with FF 6.0 and my major app FBAPower and printing to a Dymo 450 label printer.
    Is there some way I can prevent this from upgrading?

    I am sorry to say that it is not possible for us to do the upgrade. We most certainly don’t want to lose a valued customer, but we can’t break our contract with Apple. If we did this for you, we would have to do it for everyone. If we did this for everyone we would risk losing our contract with Apple, and not be able to sell iPhones at all. I understand it is a savings to cancel your contract with us, and move to another provider we certainly don’t want you to do that, but that is an option for you.

    I don't believe they were looking for a trade in, they are due for a subsidized Verizon upgrade. I think the bringing the iPhone 4 was for setting it up and transferring as Verizon does not require you to swap your previous phone for an upgrade.

It crashes whether or not I have any apps running in the background. Sometimes I can type part of a message before it crashes. Other times it crashes as soon as I try to use the app at all. Neither Apple Support nor Verizon store staff could find any reason for the problems. Any ideas??

    Steady_RI, thanks for keeping us posted. Did you uninstall that application by pressing/holding down the icon until the (X) appears? Tap the (X) to delete it. Once the application has been deleted, you will need to reset the network settings on your device in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Power that device off/on and then download the application again. Additionally, we also recommend that you disable Wi-Fi and connect to our network to test the messaging feature again.

    hey man, i feel your pain... here's my story and i'm pretty sure this will work for you... on the 19th of september i went to upgrade ios 6 and paused it about 1/10 through... when i plugged my phone up at night the screen was at the normal lock screen.. when i woke up at 10:30 am i went to check my phone and the screen appeared as an apple logo with a progression bar about 6/10 full.. it didn't seem to be progressing any more, but i guess that was only because it was so slow trying to download over wifi because it had all night to finish downloading.. anyways i needed to check my texts and the time so i held down the lock button and the phone turned off during the download.. when i tried to turn it on the apple logo would appear like normal trying to boot up.. then it would fade away and cut off.. then seconds later try to turn on again, by itself, repeatedly for hours on september 20. i tried restarting it (holding lock and home button down 10-15 seconds) but the problem with that is that the phone was already trying to turn on itself so it never would restart correctly... (continued turning on and off by itself).. i went to verizon and they said my phone is screwed.. go to apple if you wanna pay.. i called apple support and a lady helped me out here's the solution that worked after hours of thinking my phone is totally screwed.. when the phone is dark and cut off.. press and hold the home button before you plugin your sync cable to your usb port.. (have itunes up and ready) continue holding the home button and plugin the sync cable.. still holding the button, wait for a message from itunes appear that says it recognizes your device in recovery mode.. press ok.. the screen on your iphone should be a snyc cable and and arrow pointing to an itunes symbol... from there it is pretty self explanatory.. you will need to restore and update your phone from there which should be an option after you press ok... it takes awhile.. your phone will then go through one, or maybe a few progression bars (it may vary, not sure).. while your itunes will be restoring software & firmware.. when everything is done on itunes and your phone.. your phone should boot right up!!! reply if you have any more questions.. i'm so glad i resolved my issue today.. good luck!
