Easier to use?

I have purchased two previous versions of Photoshop Elements only
to let them gather dust because I could not figure out how to use
the program. I need something with greater ability than Iphoto.
If this program is over my head please don't hesitate to say so

For Organizing check out www.photofanatic.com. This website is for a book on PSE3 but it still works for 4&5. Read the free excerpts. If you want to buy the book I hear there are good deals on used copies.--Oh, you said iphoto, Organizer does not work on a mac.
Google "photoshop elements tutorials" and just start doing things. I wouldn't bother with a new version if you still have the old one. Learn the basics on the old one, then decide if it is worth upgrading. One positive is that is you can get training books and cds for the old versions at great prices. Check ebay and amazon used. (Still using PSE2/Windows XP; PS6/Mac OS9.2)
There are online classes and video tutorials that are great. Sometimes it is easier to watch how to do something than read about it. If you subscribe to the newsletter at www.photoshopelementsuser.com you gain access to many quicktime video tutorials. There are some free ones there too.

  • Need easy to use comments form to post to webpage short-term

I'm going to create a 90th birthday tribute webpage with photos etc about a former teacher. We have a past pupils (alumni) website for a now closed school. The average age of the people who visit is 55+ and have to keep it basic. I have created php forms to email for those who want to sign on to our database, label photos on the site etc. That's about all our audience can handle. The guestbook has captcha and it just confuses many users even though there are detailed instructions on how to post with photo guided tut as well!
So I want to put a form under the BD greeting part where they can enter their greeting and hit submit and not bother with captcha. I don't want them to have to register which means they won't be able to edit their comments if there's mistakes.   I'm happy to monitor it daily to weed out any spam, or more likely-- posts with errors or duplicates as it's not going to be around that long.To let people know about the page, we will do a mailing and put the link to the page in the email inviting them to sign the card using the comments form.
The idea is not to make the page public on the site's homepage until a day or two before his birthday which is in about 2 weeks. Then I plan to put an announcement on our homepage as he regularly visits the site and so it will be a surprise. Then he can visit the bd card page himself and see those who have posted their greetings, etc. Also, it will be there for anyone wants to add to the greetings and keep it open for another week. After that I will remove the form and tell people that if they want to add to the greeting, they can email us and we will post their greeting.
Someone in our group said perhaps we should just ask for greetings to be sent back to us in the email sending the link and I put them on the site, but it sort of kills the participation factor...we like people to interact with our site. There are a few we know about who will have to have us do it for them because they are not online, but on our telephone list.
Anyone have advice on how to make this really easy to use for the visitors??? Do I need to worry about script hijackers in this short time-frame?  Do I need to use Google webmaster tools to exclude it from the search engine?
Thanks so much.... Lew in Bristol UK

Look at Gentle Source's Comments script (they have front end and back end demos)

Do I need to worry about script hijackers in this short time-frame?
Any form processing script you run on your server needs to be secure.  Otherwise it's an open invitation to HACKERS and other threats that could compromise your server.  On shared hosting environments, many web hosts require you to use their scripts.  You may wish to ask your host which scripts they recommend.

    Hi Phoenix,
When I moved to Numbers 3, I found that my Numbers 2 templates were still in File > New from Template Chooser > My Templates with the original row height intact

  • V12 Panorama: Wrong time - Please make it easy to use the Organizer

When performing with V12 my first Panorama Merge, the resulting panorama Merge got the wrong time assigned (in V8, I did not encounter that problem). With V12, the two source jpeg photo files that were merged into the panorama have a timestamp of 4/5/2013 12:59. However the resulting panorama jpeg file has a timestamp of 4/5/2013 10:59. This result in one additional manual operation, that i must perform after completion of the Panorama Merge: I must correct the time.
I am not sure how that time difference of two hours happened. Is it because I am in Switzerland, where we have still the Summer time and are ahead by two hours from Greenwhich Mean Time?
I have a kind request for the next Version of PSE: avoid to make it difficult and painfull to use the PSE Organizer in conjunction with Photomerge Panorama. Today, without technical reason/merit, use of the PSE Organizer in conjunction with Photomerge Panorama is extremely painful and inefficient. For each result of a Panorama Merge, I have to do all of the following and that is very inefficient (especially with large catalogs) and painfull:
I must find within the Organizer bin the result of the Photomerge (to do that, I typically need to switch the Photo Bin into Import Batch sequence...and then later on switch back to a more reasonable sequence)
I must verify and then correct manually the time of the resulting photomerge file
I must determine which tags were assigned to the individual component/source files, navigate  within my large Tag structure to find the tags,  and then assign manually to the photomerge result the Tags of the source photos
I must deternmine in which Album(s) the individual component/source files were included, navigate within my large Album hierarchical structure to find the Albums and then include manually the photomerge result into the same Album(s) as the source photo. Then I have to move the photomderge result to the right location within Album Sequence.
I must make sure, that the resulting jpeg file is stored in the same folder as the source photos.
All that is a real horror. I am sure, that all opf us (both from Adobe and from the PSE fan community) want to make it easy to use the Organizer.
Ideally, I would like to have (one? or multiple distinct/selective?) sticky options (in the Photomerge dialog pannel? in Preferences? at another location?) that would do all the above automatically for me.
Of course, I understand, that other PSE users will sometimes not like (as I also sometimes do not like) to have the same tags/Albums associations for the resulting photofile as for the compoenent/source files. But It is so much easier to remove selectively one or more Tag/Album association from a photo then to search a large Tag/Album Hierarchy for the correct Tags/Albums and then associate these Tags/Albums with the Photomerge Result.

Michel, Thank You for your answer.
Hopefully, Asobe development will make a distinction between:
    - "missing functionality" (the alphanumeric sort which wes mising in V11), that requires new/additional code
    - and "bugs" that are important (because in this case, the bug results in a Timestamp related dis-organization within the PSE Catalog) and can hopefully be fixed relatively easely.
Since the "date problem" that I had encountered orginally while performing a Panorama Merge is a general problem that is not related to Panorama Merge: for the date problem, I will open another Thread.
To come back to your excellent "suggestion" related to Photomerge Panorama: it is my impression that based on your idea/suggestion, the problem could be relatively easely fixed in V13.
To simplify a little bit: when performing a Panorama Merge, the Editor could record somewhere internally, the Identification (e.g. Filename and Foldername) of the Photos that are used as input for the Merge. And when later on, the PSE user performs a "Save As" or a "Close" of the resulting panorama, the Editor could offer to the user the option to save the Panorama File within a Versionset.
    - in the simplest implementation: the Editor would choose without asking any question with which one of the Input Files the result should be saved into a Versionset
    - in a little bit more more luxurious implementation: The Editor could ask the PSE user with wich ones of the Input Files the result should be saved into a Versionset
The PSE user, could (if he wish) later on remove the Panorama Merge from the Versionset. That Is easy and fast to do.
Of course, thanks to Michel, I have now an excellent Workaround. Myself do therefore not need an "official" solution in V13. But I nevertheless believe that a lot of other PSE users will not be aware of the suggestion of Michel and will therefore waste a lot of time for a proper "organizazion" of their Photomerge Panorama. It would be great, if PSE would complement the outstanding Photomerge Panorama support of the Editor with a good and simple-to-use/simple-to-understand support of the Panorams within the Organizer

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

  • Looking for good easy to use inexpensive tuner

    Hi,
I am looking for a good, easy to use, inexpensive tuner. Not one you use in a rack or on a pedal, but one you use on the computer. I looked and there are a ton out there so I figured I would look for recommendations here.
I do not like the way GBs works. It fluctuates too much as the note decays and drives me nuts. I want a simple one, that works great. (If it has a feature that helps in tuning a 12 string, than thats a plus, but not a deal breaker). Simple and accurate is most important.
Lastly I noticed some they sell are AU and some are stand alone. Is one better than the other?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Strangedogs,
Thanks for the link but if you read the review of it on the site, it is terrible. The users on VT hated it. It got 1 star out of 5. I was looking for a recommendation of one that someone has actually "used" themselves and likes it from experience using it.
There was a link that someone posted there for a free tuner from emagic that they said is great, but all the links I found with google run to a dead end unfortunately.
    Paul
BTW: boy do those 12 strings take forever to tune. I was jamming with a friend over new years weekend and it took him forever to tune up, (and he has an excellent ear).

  • How hard is it to use javascript to show/hide fields. Is it easier to use the action builder?

I know nothing about javascript and all that ive been using so far has been stuff ive found on here (thank you everyone).
Using the action builder seems like its gonna be very tedious to do since i have so many subforms that hide, would it be esier to use javascript?

I know nothing about javascript myself but I just created a form with about 10 different subform that show or hide depending on what the user chooses from a drop down list and I used Action Builder. If we don't know javascript, how can we use it? But Action Builder did a fine job of hiding/showing wherever I needed it. And Action Builder can do more than one thing by clicking that + sign when you are building an action.
For instance, I needed to place a button in each subform that would close both the field that the person was working in and also the subform on the next page where the information was going into floating fields in a text block that was only visible thru a drop down list text select. I could have never figured out how to do that based on my knowledge of javascript. Thank Adobe for including Action Builder in this version of LiveCycle and I use it all the time. I find it extremely easy to use but it takes a little mental training to think thru the steps of how you can use the menu in Action Builder to make your form do what you need it to do.
And if all else fails, ask this forum. I struggle for just so long before I come here and ask for help. I always get the answer I need. I hope you will too.
    Good luck,
    Jeanette

  • Belle easier to use than Android - FACT

Android is well supported and has an amazing array of apps available and can do some snazzy desktop effects....
But...   for ease of use   I think Belle is far easier to use for the mass market
If N97  etc. Was launched with Belle   Nokia would be in a strong position right now and I don't think android would be quite so dominant.
So well done Nokia  albeit a bit late but my N8 is a much more enjoyable to use now.  I was even showing it of to some Android users at work, who were impressed, saying things like "but I thought Nokia was old and rubbish" that looks kool.
Lets get Belle on as many Nokia phones as possible (try and wipe out the past) Nokia concentrate on delivering  more cool widgets  that we will show to all our friends  and together we can gain back market share.
We have been harsh on you Nokia but only because we could see you making the "same" dumb mistakes but we had your best interest we want to see you back at the top where you should be.
    Come on lets do this.

    folks often say that
    asm is like sax,
    bcel is like dom
for parsing class files, i think they are both pretty simple.
If you are creating classes, they tend to both be more difficult.
asm is a little more consistent and lite weight.
bcel is a little better handling the constant pool, and also has the concept of a Repository (classpath).
For new work, you probably should use asm, as there probably will be more support going forward, for new features.

  • WOW, Presets  ... easy to use

I am curious to know what other's thing of this set of presets by Jack Davis? (sorry, if this has already been posted)
I did not find this (someone gave it to me, I am passing it on) ... I am using it and was impressed at how easy to use, understand, and well thought out this set of presets are.
Just looking at the list. and how it is organized made sense to me. And was able to be productive with it "very" quickly (and isn't that what LR is all about ... being more productive, fast)
The nice thing is because of the way it is organized, AND it encourages ME to "build my own" pre-sets easily (that work) .
And for me there was a little side benifit ... by watching the changes in the presets that worked for me ... I learned just a little more about LR ... and how to get the changes I want to do.
(got "schooled" on toning in LR just by playing with these presets)
I am still learning ... but this just made me go up a notch.
fyi: is FREE ... how cool is that!
    http://www.ononesoftware.com/photopresets-wow.php
Hope this helps others (that are just a little lost in LR) and needs that boost to get LR to be productive fast.
    HG

    John,
GREAT Tip on the preset folders ... I am "going" to do that ... NOW!
My list was getting too long and hard to navigate.
You are right I should spend more time learning how to use Develop ... but, there is always a few things to be learn't "quickly" thru old practice of reverse enginering.
Not trying to invent or re-invent the wheel ... just want it to roll quickly ... for now ...
    * I like your idea of applied "child presets" that's one for the suggestion box.
Because it is also, a good way to see, what you are applying. and easier to mix and match (using click and drag (wow, that might be too much fun)
Yes, I have the insidelightroom one's too ...
BUT, what I loved about this one ... "as a SET of pre-sets" it really showed me the "WAY", as far as organizing them, and using them.
imho, the power of that list, the way it was done was not only the naming convention & order it was in ... but also the way it has RESETS right on the list at the top of each section. So, you can stay on the list and reset just a part of the total adjustments.
What the list reveals to me ... is HOW a set of presets can be done so it is MORE user freindly. imho, all Groups of presets s/b organized this way & in a separate Folder (I think this is the first group of pre-sets I have seen done this way)
AND, the way LR should have organized there pre-sets. Starting with aLR- and in there own folder :)
    * It's the little things ....
Ease of use "counts" imho, even for presets ...
note:WinXP does not make things faster, but we buy faster computers for that ease of use.
SCSI is faster, but I don't use it anymore. not even for RAID.
    Just my thoughts HG
