Eastern European characters in PDF report

Hi.
I have successfully integrate Apache FOP into APEX as per http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html document.
The only problem (for now) I have is displaying eastern european characters in PDF file. Instead of expected characters I get hash(#) character. I have read some documentation on Apache FOP font embedding but I just dont know where to start that is if I am on the right track.
Any solution or hint would be very much appreciated.
Thanx in advance.

I find same problem.
My apex configuration:
Home>Administration>About Application Express
NLS_CHARACTERSET:     EE8ISO8859P2
DAD CHARACTERSET:     UTF-8
Home>Application Builder>Application 107>Shared Components>Report Layouts>Edit Report Layout
Report Layout Type:      Generic Columns (XSL-FO)
Page Template:
+<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'utf-8'?>+
Why I find in PDF '*#*' character in every polish special character?
Please help me in this problem.
M.

  • Eastern European characters in XML and parsing

    Hi all,
I have a problem with XML parsing within Java code with special Eastern European characters.
Whenever there is EE character within tags it reports:
WARNING (12847): CORE3283: stderr: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The element type "CodeMeaning" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</CodeMeaning>".
    at javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder.parse(DocumentBuilder.java:134)
Obviously special character is in CodeMeaning XML tag. XML is well formed and syntactically OK and without special characters works OK. Does anyone have any suggestion how to force special characters in XML?

Would you send a sample data for test? What is the encoding for your XML doc?

  • PDF report printing is displaying '?' mark instead of thai characters

    Hi All,
When trying to print PDF report I am getting question mark "?" for thai characters.
In browser it is showing properly. The problem is happening only when I open pdf file.It is showing "?" mark instead of thai characters.
I tried developing simple application in apex.oracle.com and I could reproduce the problem. It is showing "?" mark.
    Below is the link:

Thai characters are displaying properly outside Apex.So there is no problem with BI Publisher.
I also tried the suggestion given in below link but no luck
Re: Cannot print out Chinese , show as '?' in pdf report
When I try the same thing in apex.oraclecorp.com it is working fine .I could clearly see thai characters. It is working fine
    My Adobe version is 8.x
Is there any difference compared to apex.oraclecorp.com and apex.oracle.com settings for BI publisher?

    Hello Mark,
I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to administration and configuration of BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, and Crystal Reports Server.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.

  • Junk characters coming in the PDF report for Lithuanian language

    hi all,
I am facing a problem like some junk characters are coming while generating the report in PDF format in Reports 10g.
Junk characters (i.e something like revere of ?(question mark)) coming only for the special characters in the report when my application language set it as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8.
Actually our application is supporting multi langauges; like English, German, French, Lithuania etc.
And in the Forms the the characters are appearing correctly... but while generating reports only i am having this issue for LITHUANIAN language.
I am using back end as Oracle 10g verision 2, and front as Reports 10g only.
Is there any way to resolve it?
    thanks in advance
    renjish

    Hi,
I updated the reports.sh which is in Oracle Home path initailly and tried the report. But its not coming properly, some other junk characters are appearing now for the special characters
    For e.g:
Actual English word: Funct. Group Poultry Parts Fresh
Correct Lithuanian Word: Funct. Grupė naminių paukščių dalių, šviežios
In Report: Funct. Grupė naminių paukšĕių dalių, šviežios
    Steps i have done:
    1. Modified reports.sh with nls_lang as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8
    2. Run the report, output was coming like above e.g.
Is anything wrong what i did?.
or Report engine(reports.sh) will support multi-languages by using the Environment ID only(as you explained before, putting ENVID in repserver.conf - reportserver.)
    thanks

  • Characters are cut off when they don't fit in the pdf report output.

    Hi All,
I understand that Forms 6i and Oracle 9 iAS have been de-supported for years. Meanwhile we do still run a small application in the 9 iAS environment.
We have forms and reports running on Windows 2000 server, I am able to successfully clone the same 9 iAS from Windows 2000 to a Virtual Server Windows 2003 x32 and all runs fine, the only problem is that the fonts in the pdf reports are larger in the new Windows 2003 environment as compared to the original Windows 2000 and characters are cut off when they don't fit in the pdf report output in 2003 env.
    Any advice is most appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • How to see Greek characters inside a PDF report (made with XML Publisher)

    Hi,
I just patched my e Business Suite (ver. 11.5.9) in order to use XML Publisher 5.6.3.
It works fine, but I have a big problem when I want to see Greek characters inside my report; instead to see the Greek characters I see only '?????'
I tried to add some font under the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility following the Doc ID: 373377.1 "How To Install a Font Using XML Publisher Administrator", but my problem remains: I don't see my Greek characters
Do I need to add any other fonts on the file system ? and where ? (under which path), or I set something at the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility level (under the Administration link) ?
Any help will be appreciated, because it's very urgent to know how to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    Alex,
Please verify the value of $AF_CLASSPATH variable and make sure that JRE_TOP/lib/fonts is part of this env variable (in addition to $CLASSPATH).

  • Issue with Czech characters in PDFs generated from RSTXPDFT4

    Hi,
We have a requirement to generate PDF documents from the spool of the Billing document outputs in our project.
For this we are using the standard program RSTXPDFT4, which converts the SAP script OTF to PDF format.
But the Czech characters in the billing document output are not getting displayed in the PDF generated out of it.
We are already using a device type I2HP4 when creating the print request , which supports Latin-2 Character set ( ISO 8859-2 ), to which the special characters
    of East European languages belong.
Even then , the czech characters are not getting displayed in the PDF generated.
We have raised  a message to SAP for this, and SAP informed us that currently the only solution to this is to use Latin 2 soft fonts,
and to upload these soft fonts into R/3 System using report RSTXPDF2 as they contain the Eastern European special characters plus all the other characters in ISO 8859-2.
But, since character font definitions (font files) are protected by copyrights, SAP informed us that they cannot provide these font files and we have to acquire
these latin-2 font files by searching in search engines in the internet.
If anyone has the information where we can get these "Adobe type 1 Latin-2" font files with '.PFB' extension,  for the proper display of Czech characters, please let me know.

    Hi,
Did you or anyone manage to find a reasonable solution for this issue?
I'm currently facing something similar but with Polish characters instead.
I tried using RSTXPDF2 to upload .PFB and .TTF files but to no avail.

  • Not getting Euro Symbol in PDF Report using XML Publisher

    Hi,
We have developed an Oracle Report from Report Builder 6i and also a Template in RTF Format.
We are using XML Publisher to display our XML Output in PDF Format to Users..
There is a Field called Comments on Customer Transaction Form, where user can enter any characters and that we are querying in Report and displaying on the PDF Output.
Currently, the user entered a Euro Character on the comments section and that was not visible to user on PDF Report and replaced by a Question Mark as below:
    "3% price reduction ?89.91, 20% marine"
When i am Querying to the Database, i am able to see the Euro Symbol, but when i checked the XML generated on the Unix Box for the Report. I found as below:
    "3% price reduction \342\202\25489.91, 20% marine"
So, the Euro Symbol on the database is replaced by " \342\202\254" in the XML Output and ? in the PDF Outbut.
    Please help ASAP.
    Regards
    Saurabh Jaiswal

    one way
value set based on view (view - select level id, chr(level) cl connect by level <= 500)
    for example, chr(64) - @
so in xml you have code of @. sample xml is
    <ROWSET>
      <ROW>64</ROW>
    </ROWSET>in rtf template pick
    <?xdofx:chr(to_number(ROW))?>
    select chr(14844588)  from dual

  • PDF report font problem

    Dear all,
All our reports are developed by reports builder 10g (under windows) and deployed on an Application Server 10g (on Linux).
We had a problem with displaying the arabic letters, but this was solved by following the steps in the metalink doc no 726205.1 for generating arabic pdf reports on unix.
Now, the problem is that the font used in the reports is ARIAL, but when the reports are displayed (in PDF format) the font is TAHOMA. This font conversion happens in both Arabic and English reportsl.
I wonder how can I correct this behaviour.
Thanks in advance for your time.
    Naglaa

I am not sure if this may be the solution, but I think you need to use font-subsetting.
Please have a look at the following documents:

  • Cannot Extract Embedded Font in PDF Report Generated Using Crystal Reports XI

The issue is that sometimes the PDF reports generated by Crystal Report XI are not showing the fonts properly. Arial font is used in the Crystal report template(.rpt file) for field label and data elements. When the report is opened in Adobe Reader, it displays the message - "Cannot extract the embedded font 'AAAAAA+ArialBold'. some characters may not display or print correctly." Other PDF Readers like Foxit show blank spaces instead. I tried to change the font to Courier New, Times New Roman etc but still getting the same message.
The issue is consistent when the application is deployed in Windows server. When deployed in Unix server the issue happens very occasionally. The font files are available and installed in the UNIX box.
Please tell me why this error message is shown and also tell me how to get it fixed.

    Hi Scot
Just replied to your email re. conf call.
    In the meantime.
    1st question.
Some of our developers are creating the reports under crystal 2008, while some are 2011.
Could this be a problem, when they are run by the SDK?
Should we upgrade all our developers to crystal 2011?
The version of CR a report is created in should not matter at all. I am 100% certain this is not the issue.
    2nd question
When the report is run, to create the pdf... why would it actually embed the font on the pdf?
if they weren't embedded.. wouldn't it just pull up the proper font, if the user's pc had that font on their
        pc?
if it does the common fonts aren't embedded, we would just have to worry about the things like
        barcode 3 of 9
I can not answer this as that essentially is the way the product is designed. It may look like a limitation, but there are no work-arounds and I would not consider this to be a bug. Perhaps an enhancement, but a pretty faint hope there. And even if, enhancements take very, very low priority and take long, long time before implementation.
    3rd question
Would the fonts, just need to be installed on the server?   we've seen some indication, that they
also need to be in a java sub-directory
The fonts must be on the server as that is where the report engine does it's work, then the report is streamed to the user's browser. E.g.; there is no work done on the browser. Also, the process must have rights to access the fonts.
One last point. You mention deployment to Linux. Linux is not supported. Please see: SAP Crystal Reports, Developer Version for Microsoft Visual Studio - Supported Platforms
I suspect this is more an issue with CR not working with the framework for Linux.

  • Handling European Characters correctly?

I am running Oracle Parallel server 8.1.7 on Compaq Tru64 UNIX. The client is on Windows 2000.
    When I type European Characters (like "v d e V D E" ) in a text field as a value using DBA studio, the string is converted into "o a ? O A ?".
It looks like ASCII 8 bit characters are changed to ASCII 7 bit characters.
How do I correct this problem?
The same problem shows up in my s/w using MFC layers.
    Thanks in advance.
    Neeraj

    hi Mufiza,
what do you mean the characters are not displayed...is the entire field not showing up or just certain characters are not displayed properly.
if certain characters are not displayed properly, is this happening in a web viewer or in the crystal reports designer.
the first thing you should do is ensure that you are using a unicode font such as arial ms unicode for your fields and formulae on the report. also ensure that it is a font that most of your end users would have installed...arial ms unicode should be very safe.
    cheers,
    jamie

  • Apps 11i (11.5.10.2) on Sun Solaris Postscript / pdf reports issues

    Hi,
We are using Oracle E-business suite 11.5.10.2 with UTF8 Characterset on SunSolaris.
We have some custom reports with text as output format and they work fine. Now
I changed the output format to pdf on concurrent program definition screen,
then submited concurrent request, output is generated but it all junk
    characters.
Then I changed standard concurrent programs "Active users" output format to
pdf, then submited concurrent request, output is generated but this is in
proper text, it is not junk characters.
Then in the metalink I found the note 340695.1, then I understood that this a
limitation with UTF8, then I changed the custom concurrent program output
format to postscript, then submited concurent request, output generated and
opened with ghostvewer and still the output is junk characters.
Then I changed standard concurrent program "Active users" output format to
postscipt, submitted concurrent reqeust, output generated, when viewed this in
ghostviewer it is all proper text, it is not junk characters.
    My question here are:
    1) Is there any thing we are missing here
    2) How come standard reports works but not custom reports
Do I need to configure anything else..
I appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks
