Eclipse Sli, Leds on, No boot

Hi everybody,
I bought two days ago an Msi Eclipse for my new computer :
Mobo : Msi Eclipse Sli X58
Proc : I7 965 Extreme / Noctua NH-12 SE2
Ram : 3 * 2 Go Kingston Hyper X 1600Mhz
GC : ATI HD 4890 Vapor X
Power s. : Silencer 520 W
HD : Samsung SpinPoint 750 * 2 + 500 * 1
The problem :
When i switch on my PC leds are on and all fans work, but no signal on screen and Dled2 Off.
What i Tried :
Ram :
  No ram
  Only one
  Corsair TwinX 1600
GC :
  No GC
Fan :
  All tower fans off
Nothing appened and the problem is still the same.
Regards,
Sky

Ok ,
So i successed :D and i'm still alive lol
I think it will be a little bit long to explain what i done in details so i resume :
I put the mobo on a table and used an air cleaner first.
Second, I put on the mobo only the cpu and the cpu fan, I made as you suggest me, clear cmos : the Dled2 worked but blocked on the DRAM.
Finaly I put the DDR3 only one slot and it didn't work , the post was still bloqued on the dram. I tried with an other old one , still bloqued, i put the three slots of the new one, it worked...
I don't know where was the real problem but if it can helps someone

  • [Eclipe SLI] 3 beeps at booting and D-LED2 gives CPU ini. (System looks stable)

    Cossair TR3XG1600C8D (3x2GB)
I have tested the mainboard 3 days without problems on a cardbox. Now have i build it in a case and the D-LED2 gives only CPU ini. at the POST.
During the POST the mainboard gives 3 short beeps and with the last beep you hear also the normal beep (that what you always get when the POST is OK). The beeps sounds like what you hear at the racetrack.
I have installed Vista during writing this topic and it looks like it is stable.
    Anyone knows what's wrong?

I thought when not good seated, the board will not boot and you get a long beep.
That's what I meant by not work, no boot.
I also had some issues with the temp sensor not being plugged in properly.  The only CPU-ini code I have got so far is from a bad overclock.  Not sure what your settings are in the bios.  Maybe try to clear CMOS and see if it will pass CPU-ini.  Check the overclock dip switchs, I've bumped them before on accident.

  • What I hate about the Eclipse SLi

Not sure where to post this kind of thing, but having spent a fortune (£3,500 to be exact) on my new build PC, I thought I'd make a quick list of why I regret buying the MSI Eclipse SLi MB rather than another manufacturer.  Maybe someone from MSI will read this and slap their designers about a bit
    1)  It has 10 SATA ports and supports SLi.  What they don't tell you is that if you have 2 GFX cards, you cannot use 2 of the SATA ports as the 2nd GFX card covers them up.  I had to purchase an additional PCI-E SATA card, and now, obviously, 2 of my planned devices don't work until Windows has booted and the drivers are loaded.
    2)  If you have a 2nd GFX card, it covers up the DLED and you cannot read the POST messages.
    3)  Needing to use a piece of tape to fix the thermocouple to some component
    4)  Less than great documentation on the BIOS options
    5)  Having only 2 USB headers on the MB.  With everything being USB these days, more headers would be good so I can connect up my multi-card reader as well as case-mounted USB ports.
    6)   Poorly performing RAID implementation (or poor drivers) for RAID5
Anyway, that's my rant over for now.  I've always used MSI MB's (except my last one was an Abit), but this has really put me off buying another one.  I really regret it.

1.)  I solved the SATA issue by connecting the sata cables to the ports BEFORE i put the cards in.  Mine work fine.
2.) What GFX card are you using?  I have 2 x GTX285's and they are NOT small. Yet I can still see my DLED.  Perhaps if you squat down to eye level vs. Looking from the top of the board down?
3.) Not sure what you are talking about. I know my Copper heat pipe was missing a plastic retention clip and spring/  Found it packaged UNDER THE BOARD (damn QA dropped the ball).  Clip was broken so I had to pay $5 for shipping or a new plastic clip for mine.
4.) I agree they need to document the BIOS much better.
5.) To be fair, most ALL the major sellers like Newegg and Tigerdirect list how many stat headders, usb headders etc there are.  Not knowing there were only 2 herders is the fault of the buyer.
6.) On board raid is always cheap bro.  Good raid cards can cost around $200-1000USD.  Hardware > Software.  I bought a mid line SATA Raid card for my box.  Have 3 raptor drives in Raid 0.  VERY happy i did it to.

  • [ Eclipse SLI Memory Slot Problem ]

I get my motherboard back from internal no display problem [repaired] but now I got a new problem with my Eclipse SLI board.  I have a Corsair 3Gb  (3x1Gb DDR3 Triple Channel) 1333 XMS3 memory, the problem is this, every time I insert 1 memory on slot 3 and check on my Memory-Z inside the BIOS, the BIOS hang, but if I continue loading and boot with Windows, Windows will load like there's nothing wrong, when I insert 1 memory on slot 5 and check the details on Memory-Z inside my BIOS, it shows details about my memory, but if I continue loading and boot with Windows, Windows crash with BSOD.
I try my memory to my brothers motherboard [Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5] and all of my memory works good even in he's BIOS, we can check or view all of my memory details. I also try to use my brothers memory [G.Skill Ripjaws 6Gb (3x2GbDDR3 Triple Channel) 1600 ] to my Eclipse SLI and the same problem happen. Every time we insert memory on slot 5 Windows crash with BSOD but we can check details on BIOS and slot 3 hangs every time we check detail on BIOS but load Windows fine.
As part of the rules here in MSI Forum, here are my specs
    Processor : Intel Core i7 920 [stock]
    Memory : Corsair 3Gb (3x1Gb Triple Channel) DDR3 1333 XMS3
    Video Card : Inno3D GTX460 1Gb 256Bit
Power Supply : Corsair 1000w PSU
CPU Cooler : Xigmatek Dark Knight

Probably, you can log a ticket with MSI and check on it?
how can i have a ticket?
    Quote
Just a guess, but I have the feeling they don't have a like replacement available, & they don't have an upgrade board such as an E. Plus or a BB X to give you. If you like having a PCI slot, trust me, you probably wouldn't like a BB X anyway. An Eclipse Plus would be nice though.
that's also what i am thinking. they don't have extra Eclipse to replace my old one

  • Eclipse Sli - Not going to BIOS

    Hi there
I was hoping that someone out there could help me! I have just finished building a new machine and decided to go the MSI route as opposed to the ASUS route (regretting that already!) Anyway, having finally managing to get past the machine not booting at all I have got to a stage where I cannot get into the BIOS and get no further than the memory check. The spec is the following:
    Eclipse Sli
    Intel Core i7 920
3GB OCZ Gold Series Triple Channel
Leadtek 7800 GT TDH PCi Express
    Soundblaster Fatal1ty PCI
    Hiper Type R II PSU
I have disconnected the Soundblaster and all the memory seems to be recognised because thats as far as I get - confirmation that there is 3GB on board. Is there anything else that I am missing or should be doing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Thanks to all who have posted on this thread with help and advice.
New motherboard came on Monday evening. Built on Tuesday evening, switched on with eyes closed and.................EUREKA!!! We have lift off!! Manged to get into BIOS and select the DVD drive etc. I went for XP Pro x64 for the moment and it has installed flawlessly. Only problem I am getting at the moment is trying to find the drivers for the SM Bus as I am getting the yellow triangle on device manager. Don't suppose anybody has any ideas, there doesn't seem to be anything on the driver disk.
Should I upgrade the BIOS? Are there any marked improvements over the pre installed (can't tell you version at moment as I at work!) If I do whats the best way of doing it. Is the Live Update thing still a recipe for disaster??
    How's yours getting on bdhuf?

  • Eclipse sli full board chipset water blocks?

Hi, I'm new to the these forums, but not a new MSI customer. I've had my eclipse sli since march '09 and was running everything @ stock. A couple of months ago a finally got around to OC'ing and noticed my IOH temps idling between 95-100c and 105-110c under load. I have since set everything back to stock and started searching for solutions, which led me to this thread. I have done the mod( HR-05 on IOH and I cut the heatsink for the ICH, I trust MSI boards.) and am pleased to report that my new IOH temps are 49-51c idle and 53-55c load. The strange thing is that my board seems to be clocking better because now with the stock heatsink I'm @ 3.5 with 1.26v stable whereas before the mod I was @ 1.3v stable on a custom loop. Which leads me to a question, sorry for being long winded and I'm not even sure if this is the right thread to ask it in but, Seeing that my lower IOH temps have given me the potential for a better clock I would like to add the IOH and ICH into the new loop I'm trying to put together, but I've looking all over for a full chipset waterblock for my eclipse sli and can't find any. Do they exist? Are they in production? or Are there any alternatives? Suggestions?

prymal, rename the title to suit your needs.

  • New ECLIPSE SLI Build, but not POSTing

    Hello MSI peeps,
Installed MB, CPU, CPU cooler, 1 stick of RAM, SSD, HD, PSU, 1 Video card and Optical drives, but cannot get it to POST.
I powered up and the MB is showing light blue indicators on installed components, but no video signal going to monitor.
I shut down, then connected DLED2 and powred up and DLED2 says CPU.ini, which means CPU error on POST, but is this really true?  I have read allot of everyone's posts on this forum where all claim that DLED2 is faulty.
I am thinking that I may have plugged in too many drives and will disconnect the HD and optical drives to see if that may be the problem....should I also try to reset CMOS too?
    Here's my rig....
    Case: Coolermaster CM-830
    Mainboard: MSI Eclipse SLI
    CPU: Intel i7 975
    CPU cooler: Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme
    RAM: Two sets (12GB) of Corsair TR3X6G1600C7D Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 1600 MHz (2GB * 3)

    Thanks for your inputs!!!

    Hey All,
Thanks for the help, but still no change....to save you having to read every thread, basically my build won't go to post.
DLED2 reads that it is CPU.ini and of course I questioned hte validity of the DLED2 reading as I have read other threads claiming that DLED2 is faulty.....so thanks to those who have replied, I have tried everything suggested, but the build still won't post....no beeps, no video signal, but the mobo and video card LEDs indicate no issue.
Is it RMA time or should I try something else?  Should I just RMA the board or should I also RMA the CPU too?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Two questions re: X58 Eclipse SLI

    Hi all -
two questions regarding my (admittedly older) X58 Eclipse SLI:
1.) When I built the system, I had two IDE DVD devices: one reader and one burner.  I've since replaced the burner with a SATA burner but now I can't get Vista 64 to recognize the reader.  I have the reader setup as 'Master' on the IDE bus and it does get identified when booting the system.  Vista won't see it, though, even with the JMicron drivers installed.
2.) When I bought the board, I also bought an OCZ 1600 DDR3 kit (OCZ model# OCZ3P1600LV6GK).  I FINALLY got the RAM stable at 1333MHz, but I've considered adding more RAM to the system.  Am I likely to experience issues if all the RAM is not matched - especially considering I've had to customize the RAM voltage and timings?
any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated!
    Mike

It may be possibe that a firmware update is available from the device manufacturer that will make the drive compatible with Vista?
Possible, however I doubt that's the issue considering that the drive functioned normally prior to the removal of the 2nd (SLAVE) drive.  To clarify, when both drives were attached to the PATA controller everything worked fine.  When I went to a single drive, the OS no longer recognizes the MASTER device.

  • Eclipse SLI cannot post

Well hello to the forum, I have been using MSI products for almost a decade, and I am facing a very difficult problem, that it drives me mad.
First of all I have the following system running for 3 and half years
    Mobo Eclipse SLI bios v1.15 (1.F 03/03/2011)
    CPU i7 920 2.66GHZ overclocked to 3.20GHZ
    PSU TAGAN BZ-series 1300watt
    Graphics MSI Cyclone HD 4890
    RAM CORSAIR TR3X6G1600C7D, CMT12GX3M3A2000C9
    HDD 2X1TB WD BLACK SATA3 RAID0, 2X1TB WD GREEN SATA2 RAID0
DVDRW LG SATA, DVD LG IDE
Sound MSI Creative XFi (came with mobo)
    Screen ASUS VK246 on HDMI
    Case Thermaltake Speedo full tower
A couple weeks ago when listening to internet radio, the PC freezed, no display, no reset button so I power it off.
I  tried to power it on but the power indicator didn't have no light, the reset button had its light on and all other components had power, but no post.
I power it off, and let it go for the night. Next day I cleared the  cmos, pulled out the battery, bought a new one cause the voltage was 2.9v, disassembled everything, put new thermal paste for the cpu, and posted after 4 or 5 loops, I got the system running installed windows 7 sp1, and let it run over night. Next morning the same thing happened , and it keeps happening if I leave the pc running at night.
I have checked everything, with one ram installed, disassembled graphics card, applied thermal paste to the gpu.
So I am out of ideas. I have endless loops for post and if I am lucky it will post!!
Is the mobo bios defected or is there a way to save it? I think it is some kind of capacitor that is going bad.
    Any help would be nice.......................

xmad, thank you for your reply, I managed to post and boot my pc, but there is another issue that I came onto it.
My eclipse has the D-Led2 accessory that I never used it, so I hook it up to give it a try, but it is not working, the button has power, the lcd display shows nothing, and the funny thing is that it blocks my graphics card of displaying anything on the screen, I do hear the hard drives spin and everything else seems to work ok.
Is there any beta bios for eclipse sli, so I can test it?

  • X58 Eclipse Sli with CMP12GX3M3A1600C9 how to make it run stable in 1600Hz?

    Hello ,

    and here is my story:
I have been using TR3X6G1600C9(corsair ver8.1) with XMP enabled so in 1600Hz and everything were going sweet stable pc , then i decided to put something more on it another TR3X6G1600C9(corsair) this time came different ver2.5 with XMP profile off seems work fine , with XMP on blue screen-restart so i asked in corsair forum they show a .pdf from corsair which was saying that mixing modules even with same kind of memory there are posibilities it wont be compatible-work.
Today i just replaced  the 2xTR3X6G1600C9  with CMP12GX3M3A1600C9(corsair) enabled the  XMP profile , everything was looking good all 12gb were working , but after some time i got blue screen and restart :(, so i bet this has to do with options and propably i have to do more than to enable XMP profile in order to make it stable. So any suggetions ? Yes i m totally noob from knowledge in bios only i know is to enable XMP but i m looking forward to learn stuff from ya guys and considering that i might just lost about 230e in order to upgrade ram and i can't make  to work 12gb stable in 1600hz i should of ask much earlier!

  • Random restarts with Eclipse SLI board

This is a copy from my post on the Vista forums havent gotten much help there.
    Describe the problem in detail!
I just built a new system on December 22nd 2008. I do Tier 2 and 3 Helpdesk work so I can work my way around a system. I put the machine together installed Vista did all the updates got all the newest drivers. Basically since I have built the Machine it will just randomly restart. It will not display a BSOD, I have auto restart turned off, and it does not create an event in the event viewer. It is almost like someone touched the reset button.
    When did the problem start?
December 22nd 2008 the day I built the machine.
What have you tried to fix it?
Tried several different BIOS setups. I have upgraed the bios, did all the windows updates, got all the newest drivers for video, audio, lan etc etc. Removed MSI Live Monitor, disabled green power in Bios, and removed overclocking center. Went through event viewer and corrected three of the four errors that was showing up. One error is the Kerebos one and I am not worried about that one.  I have just run both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both of them stop responding about half way through the test.
What is the error message (of any)?
I have Vista set to not auto restart so I should see a BSOD but I get no message. I have had 4 restarts just today and none of them created a new MEMORY.DMP file or any type of event in the viewer.
I do get warnings about something called FLASH.SYS but I cannot seem to track down what this is.
What was the last thing you did before the problem started?
    Built the machine.
    What are your system specs?
    Vista 64
    MSI Eclipse SLI X58
12 Gigs Crucial ram matched to the MoBo using the crucial matching system on the crucial website. The MoBo supports up to 24 and I am using Vista 64bit.
Antec P190 Case (Dual power supplies for a total of 1.2 KW of power)
    Intel Core I7 2.66
Creative Extreme Gamer Edition PCI E sound card
    Mcaffee
    BFG 260 GTX
Coolmaster V8 cooler (CPU under stress runs about 70f well below the max of 208f)
    Do you have a screenshot?
    Nope
My next step is to take out 6 gigs of RAM and see if the issue goes away.
    Any suggestions?

Please provide a link to the Crucial Product site for your memory modules and make a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" view.

Test one memory module only and see what happens.  If things seem fine, add one more module and test again (and so on).

  • MSI Eclipse Sli and Asus 6950 Direct CU II problem

I’ve recently bought the Asus 6950 Direct CU II 2GB. After I installed it a weird buzzing sound started coming from around the area, where the big heat sink below the cpu socket sits. That only happened when the graphics card was on high profile and particularly when I was in any game.
About a month later my card stopped working properly so thinking it was its fault I used the warranty and got it replaced. However with the new card the system won’t even start. My monitor goes from “Please check signal cable” to “No signal” and apparently the system is not even moving past the bios checks.
The weird think is that when I use my old card (MSI R4870 1GB) the system seems to work properly!!! I tried the 6950 in two different systems and it seems to be working….
I’ve tried resetting the bios removing other devises to test the power supply etc., but nothing works, I can only think that something is wrong with the motherboard.
Any ideas on what might be wrong???
    My system is:
    MB: MSI Eclipse Sli
    CPU: Core I7 920
PSU: TAGAN TG700-U88 PIPEROCK SERIES 700W
    RAM: 3 x CORSAIR TR3X6G1600C9 Triple DDR3
HDD: WD Velociraptor 150GB for the OS

Thanks for the timely reply HU16E.
I don't have another psu available right now but I will in 3 days so I will try that.
On the other hand I have mine working as a single rail from the day I bought it (turbo mode switch on the psu), but i am not sure how this can be connected.
Also while I was playing around with the system it started up, only once, with the 6950, and that happened with everything connected so I still can't figure what the hell is happening!!!! I am thinking that something on the pcie port is wrong so i tried on the other ports too, yet nothing happened.
I am still leaning towards the motherboard but any other ideas would be welcomed.

Paul Adare is correct in saying that you cannot "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit. You can, however, backup your files and reload them onto your PC.
Given that you are able to boot Windows 7 after the failure to install Windows 10 Technical Preview, it is apparent that you are not formatting the drive during your clean installation. There are a number of potential issues an existing configuration can
cause, such as preventing Windows Setup from registering boot files, modifying partitions, or moving an existing installation and data to the windows.old folder. I would recommend removing the partitions from your drive (note: this will erase any data remaining
on the hard disk) during installation to ensure that Windows Setup has a fresh hard drive to install to. If you continue to experience errors, two other factors to take into consideration are:
Does your system use a storage controller that requires loading a driver during Windows Setup?
Is the hardware malfunctioning? Do the hard disk and memory pass testing software like Windows Memory Diagnostic or chkdsk?

  • PC shuts down or reboots spontaneously (MSI Eclipse SLI)

Starting a new thread to avoid totally hijacking another thread talking about almost the same symptoms here.
    My original post:
Quote from: Smoke on 05-April-09, 12:43:21
I get this same situation.. except the event viewer doesnt state anything.
The system is not bluescreening.. it just hardware powers down and reboots.
I get the same message as the original poster as well, it is very annoying as it often happens in the middle of doing something.
I wonder if it could be thermal related to the high IOH temps on the board (often 80-85C, but not sure what happens to them in the middle of playing a game)? Is there any way to log the temperatures to a file so I can check what they were at the time of the crash?
I get this issue whether I change the default bios settings or not. Ive got a 920 on my eclipse board, my CPU temps are below 30C under load. System temp is about 27C.
    What can I do?

That's way too high, even for 100% load.  Reinstall the heatsink.
Quote from: Smoke on 05-April-09, 20:46:53
It is? I found another thread on this forum where it was mentioned that intel and msi said the IOH runs hot and to expect temps up to 100C. How do I go about changing the manufacturers heatsink on a board? Ive never done that before and cant find any procedural help thru google...
Ive been able to replicate the issue by running ram up to high usage. When I get above 98% ram allocation, I spontaneously reboot. So It could be a ram issue as well. Of would that be something possible IOH related as well?

    smoke,
Can you list out your full system spec and PSU spec?
    System Spec:
    Core i7 920 w/ TRUE 120
    MSI eclipse SLI (bios 1.4)
    6x 1gb corsair 1866mhz rated ram sticks (TR3X3G1866C9DF)
    1500w thermaltake psu
galaxy gtx295 in the primary x16 pci-e slot
MSI eclipse soundcard in the 1st pci-e x1 slot
    4x 1tb samsung 'UJ' hdd (raid 5)
O/S (= old winxp 32 bit until I get hold of a 64 bit os) running on 128gb PQI SSD
    lg bluray burner
All the drives are sata2 and running on the ICHIOR ports.
For bios settings Ive got the optimised defaults with spread spectrum off and turbo boost on. Once its table then I will OC, but for now its not stable at the baseline yet.
    Temp info:
IOH temps are as I said, around 80 at startup but rise to at least 87 under load, but not really much further that Ive seen.
CPU temps are very low with the dual-fan TRUE 120 heatsink. I havet seen it go above 35C with a reasonably heavy processing load. Usually sits about 0-2C above ambient at most when idle.
System temps get to about 40 under load, or around 27-35 under regular usage, but Im not quite sure what thats measuring the temp of on the board.
The issue is very frustrating but somewhat intermittent - I can go two days without a crash but then get several in a row. I wasnt previously paying attention to my usage at the time tho so I dont remember what I was doing when it crashed that I wasnt doing when it was fine. I have been able to replicate the crash/reboot/shutdown symptom by running multiple memory intensive apps and loading the ram up to just on the 2.99gb mark (the most winxp 32 bit will 'see') and it goes down. No blue screen though.. its a hardware issue not software I am pretty sure.
[edit] Updated the ram part number to be correct.

ok, should I label this possibly as solved?
I followed MSI's advice and checked through on drivers. Ive got totally up to date drivers, but nvidia just put out a .5  driver update (i mean, its increased the driver version by .50) and so I updated to that. I still got a sft reboot on testing, so no real joy.
THEN, I did the big change MSI asked me to do - Ive successfully brought my system up to bios 1.5B3 and pow, massive improvements all round!
Intelburntest runs perfectly now, no crash, no reboot, no errors of any kind. All residuals match. No memory errors. Memtest86 2.11 runs smooth as silk without errors either. PCmark runs out a basic benchmark of almost 19000 (about 3000, or 18.75%, more than the std core i7 920 benchmark without OC'ing) and looks great. Couldnt get that to run previously either.
The previous methods which 100% of the time would replicate the soft reboot of the system now no longer do so at all (i.e. 0% of the time yet) and for that matter I have not been able to get the box to fall over AT ALL since the new bios.
I have the same temps on cpu/ioh/system as I did previously. I recall for the same clock speed the cpu was putting out something well under 20 gigaflops... now its a solid 28. I didnt even realise that was a symptom of anything wrong, else the bios does some amazing extras.
I should note, Im only now using the 'optimised defaults' setting thru the bios. No overclock at all yet.
I'd love to know what MSI changed from 1.4 to 1.5B3, but whatever it was.. it does appear to have solved my issues. I wont say that conclusively just yet, but I cant bring the system to a crash no matter what I try now where it was rather easy to blow it over with a quiet whistle before.
Other things Ive noted is that the page file now seems to be actively utilised. Ive pushed it at load up to almost 3gb where before the bios update I was struggling to see 400mb used. Not sure if that was part of it, but if you get simiar issues go straight to MSI and see about getting hold of the 1.5B3 bios or later.
To quickly address the recent replies:
    1) Ive got to agree with HU16E with my ram. I have no trouble running at the 1333 JDEC spec. And I feel very positive about now being able to achieve the XMP spec with this new bios.
    2) Thanks for the link Aaron. I did end up using the USB flash method from this forum. Worked perfectly. Chalk up another success story!
    3) I did try to swap out the ssd last night, but the system kept soft rebooting while installing the OS on the spin drive. SO I gave up. Seems the ssd isnt a drawback under the new bios tho (assuming it even was a cause earlier).
    4) Ive DL'ed the x64 windows 7 beta and I'll likely as not have a shot installing that and refitting the extra 3gb ram back into the system. I'll let you know how it goes. Theoretically 6x1gb sticks should be as much as 15-20% faster than 3x 2gb sticks (and were about that much cheaper for me at time of purchase) but I'll run some benchmarks now that the benchmarks work and let you know the differences in case anyone wants to build their box the same way.
    Conclusion:
I'll stress the system over a bit for the next few days without overclocking and I'll see if I can bring the system to reboot like it did previously through high usage, and if I cant I'll change the thread to solved and write out a proper solution post for the problem, symptoms and solution.
Id like to take the opportunity to say thanks to all the guys who've given me help and advice. Youve all been really great. Thanks a bundle! I owe you one

  • Mai eclipse sli CPU problem

Just got new i7 970 CPU and for some strange reason the bios setting for turbo boost is greyd out and another thing when I run the msi overclocking tool it reports only 4 cores not 6, in device manager is showe all 12 threads but when I look at the performance manager it shows only 8 threds anyone can suggest anything?
    I am running:
    6x2gb OCD gold 1600
    Intel i7 970
    Msi eclipse sli bios 1.13
    Radeon 5870
    And a few drives
I replaced intel i7 940 which worked great

Starting to sound like it is CPU/socket related. Sometimes a CPU reseat will help. Uneven downward pressure on the CPU by the cooler can cause these symptoms. The socket pins should probably be very closely inspected for any that may be bent or broken. The CPU contact pads each checked for solid contact. Before pulling the CPU, try with only one stick RAM in the primary (A0) black dimm slot & check for results. If you do pull the CPU, be sure to remove the PSU power cord & clear CMOS before starting up the system again.
