Edge Detection vision output, how to use it?

Hello Developer Zone,
I'm working on a school project that will use labview, labview vision, and labview Mindstorms. to make a robot drive along a line of black tape on the ground.
Problem is, the line detection output of dision is confusing me. Teachers cant help me, and i am not that experienced yet.
I want to know that (within area of interest) There is Either a staight line, or a diagonal line (or any / or \ kind of line).
I dont know the posabilitys, but it either detects what kind of line there is and just output instructions to turn left or right or straight forward.
Or it could detect like: The line is there, but 5cm (5 pixels ) whatever it measures in, to the right. and instruct to re-locate to the position the line is pointing, or is at.
I hope this isnt to confusing, and i hope someone can help me to output the lines detected, to something i can instruct the drive system with.
With this i will post an image of my project on a test.
note: the drive system isnt designed yet, it willbe using 2 servo motors, controlled by Mindstorms. i intend on instructing how long, 1 or 2 of the motors should turn and at how much % of the power.
Though if i can get the vision line system to output in like 5 different conditions ( straight, left,right,hard left, hard right. ) based on how the lines are recorded. this should be no problem at all.

To get the output from within LabVIEW you have to use the IMAQ (Vision) functions within LabVIEW, not Vision Assistant. Vision Assistant will create the VI from your script for you if you select Tools>Create LabVIEW VI.
I have also attached a very simple VI that will find edges for you. The output called Straight edges is an array of edges that includes the coordinates and angle of the edges.
Be sure to select the ROI before you run the VI

hi, i need a way to do a fast edge detection. ive already got something using getpixel but get pixel is really really slow. does anyone have a faster method. it needs to work on a 300mhz processor and 64 megs of ram. accuraccy doesnt really concern me. thanx in advance.

Use of edge detection in pattern matching algorithm?

I work for a group at Texas A&M University researching two-phase flow in reactors. We have been using IMAQ Vision and had a question regarding the use of edge detection in the pattern matching algorithm. I had seen the webcast entitled “Algorithms that Learn: The Sum and Substance of Pattern Matching and OCR” (http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-705) and in the webcast it was mentioned that the pattern matching algorithm uses edge detection to, (as best I can tell), reduce the candidate list further and to perform subpixel location calculations. However, I was wondering if this edge detection process is still performed if we do not use the subpixel location calculation (i.e. if we uncheck the “Subpixel Accuracy” check box)? Also, if edge detection is performed in the pattern matching algorithm is it consistent with the method described in Chapter 13 of the Vison Concepts Manual (“Geometric Matching”)? Finally, if edge detection is performed in a manner consistent with Chapter 13 of the manual, how does the geometric matching correlation number affect the correlation calculation that was performed in the previous steps? Are they simply multiplied together?

We are using Imaq Vision Builder 4, with the included pattern matching that can be accessed via the menus (i.e. we haven't created a custom VI or anything.) We are using the software to locate bubbles during boiling experiments and want a deeper understanding of what is going on "behind the scenes" of the algorithm, as we may have to explain how it works later. We have been able to determine most of what we need from the webcast I had previously mentioned, except for the use of edge detection in the pattern matching algorithm.
At the scales involved in our experiments, subpixel accuracy is really not needed and therefore we do not use it. If edge detection is used in the pattern matching algorithm only to determine location with subpixel accuracy, then we do not really need to know how it works because we do not use that calculation. Inversely, of course, if edge detection is used during pattern matching even without enabling subpixel accuracy, then we would like to have a fairly good understanding of the process.
I've read most of the section on geometric matching in the Vision Concepts Manual and wondered if the process described there for edge detection (or feature matching) was also used in the basic pattern matching algorithm?
To summarize, if edge detection is not used in the basic pattern matching algorithm without subpixel accuracy, then that is all I need to know. If edge detection is used for pattern matching even without using the subpixel accuracy calculation, then we would like to learn more about how exactly it is used in the pattern matching algorithm.
We would really appreciate any help you could give us... we've been digging around on the NI website for a couple of weeks now trying to fit together all the pieces of the pattern matching puzzle.

Edge detection using IMAQ Find Edge/IMAQ Edge Tool 3

Hi,
I have several images with useless background around a rectangular ROI (coordinates unknown!). So I tried using the two VIs mentioned above in order to detect these edges so that I can remove them. Regretfully, this does not work as planned.
IMAQ Find Edge usually finds an edge, but not where it should be. The edge detection is earlier than I want it to be.
IMAQ Edge Tool 3 sometimes does not find an edge at all, sometimes it finds the edge perfectly. Here I use the 'get best edge' option, which delivers the best results with all the images I tested it with.
All the other options are also not changed while running the VI with the images I have.
Does anyone have intimate knowledge of these VIs' algorithms, how they work, how they can be manipulated, ... ?

How to use Adobe Edge Web Fonts correctly

I am a Dreamweaver newbie and am trying to learn how to use it through the tutorials. I am stuck at part 3 trying to use Adobe Edge Web Fonts correctly in my web site. As far as I can tell I have followed the instructions in the tutorial correctly, but the font style effect does not show up on my site. I am working on a Windows 7 machine and using Dreamweaver 5.5. I have copied and pasted the javascript into the correct spot in the head of the index.html page as well as included the font-family name in the CSS file and saved the whole smash. The source code for my index page looks exactly like the sample in the tutorial, and I have tried to view my site in my browser, but no dice. Doesn't display the Edge Web Font style in the web page. I believe I've done everything according to the directions, but I suppose I've missed some small detail. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

You need to add a <script> to the head of your documents like the example below. In my example, I'm using all of the aguafina-script and league-gothic fonts.

A simple way to get the correct codes is to go to Adobe Edge Web Fonts and select the font you wish to use.

NOTE: You won't see the custom web fonts displayed in Design View, Live View or when previewed locally unless you use a local testing server. An easier way to test is by uploading the page to your remote server.

How to use 1 edge animation in multiple pages without duplicate files?

Hi,
I want to display an animation on multiple pages that are all located in there own respective folders. I want to be able to move then animation files into it's own dedicated folder e.g. /includes/edge folder where I can still use this animation in other pages not locate in this folder.
How can this be done?

You can have your animate files in a folder and load them in different pages using a iframe

I use weblogic 5.1 sp6and NES 4.1. Netscape plug-in connects them together.
I also install the verisign certificate on the NES 4.1.
I want my JSP code to detect if the user is using http or https to visit my
site. However, isSecure() will return false and getSchema will return https
and getServerPort will return 80, even when the user is using https:// . I
guess the reason is when the NES forwards the request to the weblogic, it is
not using https.
Then how can I detect the protocol the user is using? I use getHeaderNames()
method to print out all the infomration in the HEADER. However, I find that
it only includes client header information. Is it true that NES plug-in only
fowards part of the HEADER information to the weblogic server?

How to use an .xsl file to transform input XML to re-formatted output XML?

Hello,
I have a .xml file from a report that I want to use a stylesheet to transform into a different .xml format.
I am reading that I can create a .xsl file to read my input and then transform it to a new output .xml file.
How do I load this into the Apps?
I tried creating a template definition and loading the .xsl in as type 'XSL-TEXT' and also, I added
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="Transform.xsl"?> to my xml data source. The output looked the same as the input.
Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions would be great!

Anyway, as such it's realy easy since you can use HTML in order to import to Excel. All you need to do is add
runtime->server->response->set_header_field( name = 'Contnet-Type'
value = 'application/vnd.ms-excel' ).
runtime->server->response->delete_header_field( name = 'Cache-Control' ).
runtime->server->response->delete_header_field( name = 'Expires' ).
runtime->server->response->delete_header_field( name = 'Pragma' ).
