Edge project slowing down

Hey there,
I've been recreating a Flash project in Edge (so that it can run on mobile devices). It's a "pre-lab" for students here at our university, where the student can go through a chemistry lab before actually doing the real world lab.
I've laid it out roughly from beginging to end, but when I run it on different browsers on a mac, pc or iPad2 the button clicks become slower and slower in response (as if it's running out memory) halfway through the prelab.
I've stripped back all the graphics off the timeline except for the important buttons and it still does the same thing. Do I need to delete all non-related images and symbols out of the Assets window? Or is it because I've been using transparent png's and should be using SVG's (but that doesnt answer why it's still slow when I strip back the project).
The only errors I'm getting in Chrome's Console is this:
event.returnValue is deprecated. Please use the standard event.preventDefault() instead.
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Javascript error in event handler! Event Type = timeline edge.2.0.1.min.js:162
Would this be why it's slowing down?
Thanks in advance,

Hi elainefinnell,
i'd say there would be around 50 (~200x200) transparent png's like so (where the character, objects like coat, goggles, bottles, etc are seperate symbols)...
with a zoom into the objects (thus the objects had to be at a higher dpi)
and a animated book opening that fills most of the screen
but then I stripped all the graphics out except the next and back buttons and it was still slowing down
And should I be using SVG's anyhow (especially if it's very flat colour artwork)?

  • Long project slowing down

    hi everyone
i need some advice cuz i just screwed stuff up.
i am working on a doc film. i have edited about 30 mins so far on timeline. lots of overlays/trans/music/some effects- i am on a pwr mac g5/ have all files on an external lacie drive with 115 gigs free/ for some reason i have fce3 doc folder on both internal and external drive but looks like all the project files except render files are going on external drive folder for fce3. my computer is starting to move really slow, especially fce. Rendering is taking forever all of a sudden. I deleted the render files like an idiot, so now i have to re-render everything and keep getting an "operation error" box. i think thats cuz its timing out, not sure. but real question is --what should i do? i have plenty of space left on the drives-why is it slowing down so?
    any advice is appreciated
    thx
    jim

The project file should be on the internal system drive of the computer. The media and the render files should be on the media drive. Move the project files there. Trash prefs and repair permissions. Run Disk Warrior on your drives. Open a previous project from the autosave vault and put it on the system drive and see if it runs properly.

  • Render times of certain project slow down

    Hi,
i have a certain tv-promo-project where i have to render several comps which all include the same amount of text and just a hand full of additional graphic elements, e.g. a lensflare and a glowing line which separats the text blocks.
The text of the specific promo-comps are read out of a "main text comp" by expressions. The expression is as follows:
    txt = comp("Master Textkomposition").layer("Textebene").text.sourceText;
    txt.split("\r")[0]
The rendertimes of the project are constantly slowing down as the render queue and the process goes on. The first comp takes about 8 Minutes to render (it is only 10 sec long) and the second already 20 min, where the third comp reaches like 2 hours of render time.
I also recognized that even the preview in the timeline is really slow, although the used effects are usually not that performance heavy.
    My System specs:
    After Effects CS6 11.0.4.2
    Mac Pro 5,1
    Processor       2 x 2,93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    RAM                24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphic          NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB
    Software         OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
Drive c:           500 GB SSD (Apps & Disk Cache)
Drive d:           2 TB HDD (Project & Source Media)
Drive e:           1 TB HDD (Render & Media Cache)
Does anybody have a clue what this problem could be about?
    Any help is appreciated
    Cheers

Thanks for the advice aka danke für den Tipp!
    I'll give it a try!

  • Does anyone feel EDGE is slowing down?

When I first got the phone yesterday morning, I ran a test using http://dslreports.com/mspeed/ and I got almost 90kbps. I just ran the same test again and it only shows 23kbps - slower than a dial-up. Anyone got the same experience?

160k? No kidding? I can't believe EDGE in NY is that bad.

  • Project slowing down

I am working on an HDV project with about 6 sequences most are short 2 to 30 minutes, 2 of them are much long 45 and 50 minutes with at least 100 small to large motion clips. I am working on a drive that only has firewire 400, I recommended that my client get a firewire 800 but the didn't. Now when we work in the 45 minute, it takes a lot longer for the clips to load in when we move to different parts of the sequence. There also seems to be a lot more problems requiring me to either restart FCP or the computer itself. Is this because we need a firewire 800 drive or is their something else we can do.
    Thank you

  • Opening CC project in CC 2014 and having slow down issues

I need to update my project with the newest version of Premeire so I can share it with another editor. When I open the old project in the up to date Premiere, everything takes 10 seconds. Hit space bar - 10 seconds before anything moves. Hit it again to stop - 10 seconds. Everything.
So then I tried an XML out from my old project and opening it in updated Premiere. The slow-down is gone! but all the data I entered for all my footage (this is a feature) has been erased!
Can anybody help me with either the slow down or the XML loss of meta-data?
    thank you!

    An Update.
I exported an EDL out of CS5 and then brought the EDL into CC2014. I relinked the media in question and it works fine. The EDL however is not ideal for what I am doing here, as the relinking in CC2014 is not working properly either.

  • Premiere Pro performance suddenly slowed down to be virtually unusable, even for simple projects

I'm running latest Premiere Pro update on a late 2013, 27" iMac, with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor with 8GB RAM, Mac osX version 10.9.5.  I know that's not a lot of RAM, but up until the past week or so I was able to edit an hour-long 4K project with that configuration, as long as I ran the Premiere session at 1/8 resolution.  It did drop some frames if I tried to play a long piece of it without stopping, but it was workable for editing purposes.  But in the past few days, the session has slowed down to the point where it starts serious frame dropping from the moment I push play, and is basically unusable.   It also drops audio, and I can hear the drives clattering frantically as soon as I hit play.   My media is on 2-TB G-drives connected via USB3.
    What I've tried so far...
    - Ran diagnostics on the drives, and it found no errors.
    - Tried linking the project to the identical files on the backup drive.  Same problem.
    - I made sure my Mac's energy saver settings were set so that the drives never go to sleep.
    - I deleted all the media caches and Premiere preview files I could find.
    - I reset the Spotlight privacy settings so that they do not index any external drives, and only a few folders on the internal drive.
    - I made sure I'm set to devote the maximum amount of memory (6.5 GB) to Premiere.
    - Finally updated my Premiere software to the latest version.
None of these things made any difference.
    - Then I thought maybe the session had just gotten too big and bloated for my system to handle.   So I made a new project and imported a simplified version of just one sequence, which only references some of my color-corrected video files.  That way I only have to have one external drive connected, and the session is referencing much smaller files.  Still no improvement.
    - So I tried an experiment where I made a brand new Premiere project and sequence.  I imported just 5 video files into it.  The largest file was less than 3GB.  (I do Protools editing on that computer with files much bigger than that, on the same type of extermal drives, with no issues at all.)  With only a single 5-second video clip (and no audio) in the timeline, it still starts dropping frames after about 2 seconds.  If I put another 5-second clip in the timeline, the frame dropping gets twice as bad.  If I try to put a video crossfade on them, playback gets so jerky it's unwatchable.
So basically, I started out being able to edit a 60-minute long 4K video project with video transitions and multiple tracks of audio and video.  (It wasn't perfect, but it was workable.)  And now suddenly, I can't play a brand new session that has 5 small video clips in it, and no audio.    So it's not just my project or sequences that are the problem.  Premiere just no longer seems to be able to access and play back my media with any kind of speed.
What am I missing?  Can you give me some additional suggestions to try that I haven't already mentioned above?  (And yes, I know a lot of you guys probably consider my hardware setup completely insufficient for what I'm doing, and you're probably right.  But it was working well enough for me up to this point.  I'm so close to the end of my project, and I'm really just trying to get back to the functionality I had a week ago, so I can finish.)
I'd appreciate any suggestions.  I feel like I'm running out of things to try.

After a lot of troubleshooting, it appears the problem is related to the color corrected version of my video not being able to play back fast enough.  While my system had no issue with the raw 4K camera files, the increased color depth of color corrected Pro Res versions are just too much for my drives to play back in real time, even at low resolution.   Unless I want to do considerable system upgrades (which I don't), the solution is to keep my color corrected and non-color corrected video stacked on top of each other in the timeline, and to deactivate the video track containing the color corrected ones.  Of course, I can turn the color corrected track on when I need to check something with it, but for playback functionality while editing, I'm limited to the raw camera files.
Obviously this is an imperfect solution.  But because I'm basically done editing and just need to do some title work and a little trimming, I can finish the project working that way.
Incidentally, tech support suggested major upgrades to my memory and video cards.  But if I were going to attempt to troubleshoot this further, I would upgrade to a better RAID system before I would do additional upgrades to my mac.  It really feels more likely that's the primary issue here.

  • Why does project save slow down over duration of project life?

I notice when I'm editing in a project in Premiere Pro CC, the auto save or even if I just save, the save slows down over time. You can slowly see the save bar going slower and slower over time.  Even if I don't add any new media or import different files the save still goes a lot slower overtime. Sometimes the save bar will hang at a certain point for 20 secs or so and then continue. I understand if I add more media, files, pics, music etc... the save will take longer. But why does it do this if I'm just editing with some effects? Is it something to do with the cache folder getting too large or that I have too many auto saves? Should I clean out these folders? Also if it hangs at one spot for 10 secs or so is it because there is a corrupt file somewhere?
I just find this very frustrating if you are saving every 5 mins and you have to wait for 30 secs for a save.
    My specs: Mac Pro 2009
    Processor  2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB
    Startup disk SSD

    I can answer some parts:
The auto save works as a five project silo.  Once the list gets to 5 saves, it starts to write over.  Also the auto-save only saves the project--no assets, no renders, thus the file is relatively small.
applying aneffect (filters transitions, etc) causes the program to create a new file as Premiere does not modfy the original asset.  The more effects that are used, the more files that are created.  When you finally export, the AME creates a single file, once again, not affecting the original assets.

  • If I put the iMovie library on an external drive over a USB 2.0 connection, will it slow down work within a project?

I'm running out of internal disk space on my iMac.  I want to move the iMovie (10.0.8) library over to an external disk that has only a USB 3.0 connection.  But my iMac has only USB 2.0 ports.  When iMovie operates, does it load a project into memory, and do all the work there, or does it bang on the library often while I'm working on the project, so that it would slow down project work?  I have a hunch that it does frequent saves during work automatically to disk, which would slow things down a lot.

External disk speed is quite important especially if you have limited RAM since less can be transferred to memory and more has to be read and written back to disk.  Your disk will run at USB 2 speed which is not fast but should work.  (A Firewire 800 disk would have been better assuming your Mac has this).  If you haven't already, update your RAM to the maximum.

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Edge running slow/not displaying some items on stage

My project's growing quite large but I'm keeping everything very tidy and importing only small files (tiny PNGs, well compressed short videos, etc) but I've found the file slowing down and now it's not displaying some of my images and symbols.
Also when I now preview in Browser it takes forever to load a page - BUT - if I drag the .html file on my browser it opens and works fine.
Why would it be doing this? Can allocate Edge Animate more memory? I have an 8-core mac with 28GB RAM and plenty of HD space (which should be fine for this)
    Thanks

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

  • How to test hardware on an old MacBook Pro that is slowing down.

I have the very first-gen MacBook Pro 2.0gHz Core Duo, 2gb ram.  I have been using this laptop as my primary since I got it, mostly for development work (Java, Objective-C, Web, etc), but also email, general web surfing, and the occational game (although, not in a while).
Recently, I noticed things were starting to "slow down".  Well, not slow down so much as things would get long pauses.  For instance, I hit a site in Google Chrome, and the app sits there for like 20-30sec of longer, as if the window is frozen, then *poof*, it draws the page.  Sometime, Chrome will even pop up asking if I want to kill the page.  It is not the only application that seems to be suffering from this, I just spend a LOT of time on the web, so I tend to notice it much more.
Even more recently, my SpringSource Tool Suite (STS, a custom Eclipse with a bunch of SpringSource plugins) started acting up too.  Mostly when I start the Roo Shell and execute a command, STS (read Eclipse) will show the command as "executing", but it seemed to never run.  I thought it was maybe a problem with STS or the Roo Shell plugin, but yesterday I ran something as a test, then got a phone call and didn't come back for some time.  To my surprise after more than 40min of just sitting there the command ran.  Once it ran, it ran in full, normal speed (the command I ran was to rebuild the Eclipse project files using Maven).  So, what I thought was frozen was merely paused for a long period of time, just like what I was seeing in Chrome.
So, this has lead me to believe I either have some sort of hardware issue, some sort of heat issue (I have seen this on Wintel laptops where the processor "speed steps" down to almost 33mHz), or some sort of software issue.  I really don't want to have to re-install OS X, if I can avoid it.  I did boot off the original disks that came with my laptop and ran the Hardware Test, but it came back with no errors.  I have iStat Pro installed as well, and the fan speeds are usually around 1800-2000rpm, sometimes jumping to 4000+rpm.  CPU tempuratures report around 151º.  I also ran the Disk Utility off my 10.6 disks.  I do know that my DVD burner no longer burns disks, but it hasn't for more than a year.
    Laptop specs:
      - MacBook Pro, Model MacBookPro1,1
      - OS X 10.6.8
      - 2.0gHz Core Duo w/ 2gb DDR2 RAM
      - Toshiba MK3252GSX 320gb HDD (replacement for factory 120gb HDD over 1.5yrs ago due to space issues)
      - I recently replaced the battery, as the old one had expanded.  I use the laptop on wall power 99% of the time.
    Thanks,
    Mike Bauer

As mentioned above, I did do this.  What I am not so certain is how intensive this test is.  Stated another way: If this was ran and passed 100%, does this mean everything on my laptop is 100% functional, like the fans, processor, cooling, memory, etc?  The drive also checked out when I did the Disk Utility from the 10.6 install CDs, and the S.M.A.R.T. check indicates no disk errors.
Maybe I should take it into a Genius and have them look at it.  Just not sure how much that will cost me, and its an old laptop, so I don't want to put too much into it.

  • Hello, I have iMAC 7,1, 20 inch, 4gigs of ram, Intel C2D perfectly runing OS Mavericks (10.9.5), will update to Yosemite, slow down my iMac?

    Hello, I have iMAC 7,1, 20 inch,
    4gigs of ram,
    Intel C2D
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    HDD 320gig's
iMAC is perfectly runing OS Mavericks (10.9.5), with no lag, and no sluggish working, Multitasking is AWESOME (i have PC, with 8gigs of RAM, GeForce GTX570, etc etc), but i must say this MAC is running way better   a way way, faster and I am Loving it!!! I am using it for making music, and video editing, i am Using Final Cut Pro x, Ableton 9, Logic Pro x, and bunch of other apps and it is working perfectly, and i am so shocked how machine old like this can do that stuff better than any PC i had, and not to mention that I use more time on iMAC than on PC, i use Windows PC just for occasional gaming, but that is like 10% of time, so i use my MAC in 90% of time.
So, enough of my iMAC. I am wondering if I update it to Yosemite, will my iMac slow down, and not continue to work like on Mavericks? Will it become sluggish and unresponsive? Will it affect reliability and stability which  have on Mavericks? And will update delete my personal data (tons of Logic, Ableton and Garage band projects, and tons of Final Cut Pro projects), Applications (because I have some apps which is hard to find these days)...
I know bunch of you guys would tell me to backup my data, but i don't have External hard drive (they are pretty expensive in my Country), I have some friend who could borrow me External HDD, but they have their data on it, and they mostly use windows.. I did not use Time Machine yet, but i think probably it would format HDD on Macs partitions, so, i will do it on my own guys (don't judge me about that guys please)..
So if someone could answer me that, i will really appreciate that.
    Thank you, and best Regards!!

The maximum RAM a 7.1 iMac can address is 6GB, the OP can keep one of the 2GB DIMMs and then add a matching 4GB DIMM. If  the OP decides to do this, please only purchase from Crucial or OWC at www.MacSales.com.
However as described on a 8 year old iMac, I'd stay with Mavericks and then when considering upgrading upgrade to a more up-to-date Mac.

  • Is there a way to slow down the playback of video in Captivate 5?

I just made several recordings (FMR) and would like to slow them down for the viewer.  The video was actually of someone else's software demo that moved way too fast.  On the Captivate skin there is "2x" to move the video twice as fast, but no "1/2x".  Is there another way to slow down the video?

Can anyone tell me how to slow down a commercial track in Garage band 10.00  I was able to do this in the earlier version of Garage Band quite easily and it is a good tool for being able to teach new dances, but I find I am unable to do it in the new version, which has just been updated.  I would be grateful for any help.

    Just found it.
Select your track with song imported from iTunes, open the Track Editor window, and in the head of the track editor  and press the "Flex" marker. Make sure "Enable Flex" is set,
Then change the tempo of your project.
