Editable Form: Reader Extensions

I created an editable form with a digital signature field using Adobe Acrobat Pro X on a Mac and posted that form online. I enabled Reader Extensions.
A user trying to fill out the form is consistently having problems where she can save the filled in form to her computer, but when she emails it, the content she entered in the fields is gone.
I downloaded the form and tested filling it out and emailing it, and it worked fine. I also had a colleague who only has Acrobat Reader test it by downloading the form, filling it out and emailing it to me, and the content was there.
Does anyone know what would be causing the issue for this one particular user? The form has a rapidly approaching deadline, so I would like to help her ASAP.
Thanks!

This is a known issue when the file is filled-in in Preview instead of in Adobe Reader.

  • Adding LifeCycle Reader Extensions to a PDF Form created in Acrobat Pro 6

    HELP!!!!
I have already created a form in Acrobat PRO 6.0, but I am running into the issue where my clients who don't have Acrobat STD/PRO can not enter their data and then save the PDF form as a copy and email it back to me with the data included. I understand that this LifeCycle Reader Extensions allows for such a result, but I have not clue how to add this funtionality to my already created PDF?!? I have downloaded the trial version Adobe LifeCycle Designer 7.1 (which appears to have full functionality for only 60 days)in hopes to just add this capability, but I am tripping over my own feet trying to figure this out.
If anyone could provide some guidance...I would totally appreciate it. I am trying to get away from the paper piles (as i'm sure we all are) and it is such a tease to see the demo documents from the Adobe site actually do what I am trying to do!!! :)
Thanks in advance for any advice/guidance anyone can give.
    Cheers!

    >. I understand that this LifeCycle Reader Extensions allows for such a result
    That's correct.
    >but I have not clue how to add this funtionality to my already created PDF?!?
LiveCycle Reader Extensions is a product. You buy it. Note that the
price is "on application" and varies with your company's needs, but is
typically either tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is to
offset the "lost sales" of Acrobat which people would otherwise have
    to buy to save forms.
    > I have downloaded the trial version Adobe LifeCycle Designer 7.1 (which appears to have full functionality for only 60 days)in hopes to just add this capability
There are many products with LiveCycle in the name from Adobe. That's
    a different one.

  • How do I purchase reader extensions to save a PDF form that has been filled out in Acrobat Reader?

I have just discovered that in order to save a PDF form that has been electronically filled out in Acrobat Reader, that I have to purchase reader extensions to make this possible.  I would like to speak to someone about the price and how to purchase.
I cannot find a phone number on your site, so I am hoping to get an answer from Adobe this way.
    Thanks,
    Chani

Thanks everyone for responding.  I should have supplied more information.
I was hired by my client to create PDF forms that can be downloaded from their website, filled out electronically in Acrobat Reader, and then saved (with all the form fields filled in) and emailed.
I was supplied with scanned forms as the base for creating the form fields in Acrobat Pro.  These web visitors that will be filling out the forms and emailing them will only have Acrobat Reader, most likely.
I created the forms in Acrobat Pro, and they worked great when I tested them ( in Acrobat Pro) - I could save the form field data.  However, my client has come back to me with numerous complaints from their web visitors - they cannot save the form once they have filled it out in Acrobat Reader and keep the data they have entered.  Instead, they have to print the form physically, scan it, and email it that way (kind of low tech for the year 2013, and not easy for these people).
So, my end goal is to update these forms in Acrobat Pro so they can be filled out by folks only using Acrobat Reader and saved with the form field data intact.  Seems like a no-brainer that Acrobat Pro should have this capability without purchasing additional extensions.  However, in my research online, I have found several posts that suggest that purchasing "Reader Extensions" is the only way to enable Acrobat Pro to be able to do this.
Can someone please clarify if I need to buy something to program these forms in Acrobat Pro to enable other people using Acrobat Reader to fill out these forms and save them with the form fields intact?
If I do need to buy something, what is it exactly?  How do I find out clear, consise, specific information about buying it/the cost/the licensing?  I am a sole owner/employee of a graphic design firm and these forms are for my client, which is a locally-owned regional hospital.
If this needs to move to the LiveCycle forum, fine, but I don't really know what that software is and since I'm only using Acrobat Pro (and the users, Acrobat Reader) I felt this was the appropriate place to post.
Thanks for all of your responses!

  • I have created an editable form which cannot be saved as a completed copy by adobe reader users.

I have a created an editable form in indesign and acrobat, however when other users open up the form and fill it in they cannot save the completed copy. It comes up with that the user needs to click done signing, however there is no done signing button in adobe reader.

Unless they're using Reader XI then you have to first apply a special right in Acrobat that allows them to save the filled-in form in Reader.
The exact location of this command depends on your version of Acrobat.

  • Save editable form into regular PDF document using Acrobat Reader

    Hello,
With Adobe Pro, I've created a PDF form using the following:
    Save As Other...
    Reader Extended PDF
Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)...
Once saved, I am sending this form to colleagues for them to fill out.  These colleagues only have access to Acrobat Reader.
What I'm hoping to do is to have them save the file into a regular PDF document with the info inserted in the form but without the option to change the form info (change from editable form to regular PDF file).
    Thanks for your help.

Hrm, OK. Well I actually DON'T have my document set as a reader extended PDF. If i fill out my fields then try to use the sign feature, it's not flattening the fields when I save/close reopen. They are still editable.
Just as a test, I saved it as reader extended and the sign feature is grayed out as you stated it should be. I am using acrobat X to create my fields and using reader XI to test inputting data/saving.
I need users to be able to fill it out, save then send and the recipient NOT be able to modify the fields. Am I missing something with the sign feature?
    Thanks again for the reply!

  • No way attaching files to a form without Reader Extension Server?

    Dear all,
do I understand this right? There is no way to create a form to which attachments can be added using Acrobat Reader unless the form has been reader extended to do so with Reader Extension Server?
If there are any possibilities I would be very thankful for any hint.
Thanks for checking this thread and any answers
    Tobias

"There is no way to create a form to which attachments can be added using Acrobat Reader unless the form has been reader extended to do so with Reader Extension Server?"
Yes you got it right. There are no exceptions or workarounds for this.

  • Reader Extensions to retrieve data from form?

    Hello
Will it possible to retrieve the formdata of a PDF form by an external program if I have Adobe Reader Extensions?
    Thank you
    Sincerely
    Lore
P.S.: Will this be possible also by Form Based Pricing Reader Extensions?

It depends on the software. It is not impossible (i.e. the file is not
encrypted in a secret way). Consult the vendor.

  • Latest Adobe Reader DC cannot render editable forms

    Hello,
I just wanted to have a discussion on the recent adobe reader DC. Has anyone else the below similar issues?
I created Adobe interactive formss from WD and triggered it using IE as well as Chrome. I had Adobe reader DC installed. As per Adobe this is a latest product and covers all the features of the previous products.
But I never got an editable form in Chrome. I somehow got an editable in IE. But when I used my SUBMIT button, the control never went back to SAP WD.
I struggled a lot and finally uninstalled Adobe DC and installed adobe reader 9.1.
I was able to successfully generate the form in IE in editable mode and the same SUBMIT button triggered data back to SAP WD.
But chrome could still not render the output.
Has anyone faced the same issue? Whats wrong with the latest version of adobe reader DC ? Adobe claims it to be the smartest release with all features integrated.
    Thanks,
    Ags.

    Hey Diego,
Thanks for the heads-up. You saved me quite a few days of my efforts.
Its extremely hard to get older versions of reader 9.1 which works fine to my knowledge. my 9.1 got auto updated to 11 and now the app is not quite reliable. Sometimes it opens in IE and sometimes it says 'plz close othr sessions to open here' - strange.
Another crucial road block is that my app has to be integrated to iphone too, but strangely there is only reader dc available in itunes. So EDITABLE form is not working either in my iphone - safari or chrome
SAP or adobe must do something on this since its stopping a lot of our PoCs.
    regards,
    Ags.

  • Mobile Forms and Reader Extensions

    Hello, everyone!
If we are working with usual PDF forms, we can apply Usage Rights to it (via Reader Extensions). So, we can create pdf form, add some rights to it, and after that send this form to our users, and they will have working barcodes, ability to import\export data and save form with theirs input.
    But what about Mobile Forms?
In Forms Manager we have a .xdp template and we can provide user url to this template with PDF Render Profile. And as a result - user will see form with not working barcode (becoming grey after each input), no ability to save form and no functionality of import/export data.
So, how reader extensions can be applied to such forms?

    Are you using LiveCycle ES4?
IIRC, You can probably plug your own PDF Render Profile which, in addition to render the PDF , can also apply RE to that. And then from Forms manager UI, you should be able to associate that custom render PDF render profile to your XDP.

  • How to allow attachments on forms saved with Reader Extensions?

I have a Livecycle developed form that includes action builder buttons to attach other documents.  When I re-save the form with 'Reader Extensions', the attach buttons no longer work.  Is there a way to allow this functionality?  How?
    Thanks.

Of course. This facility is only available with Reader extension server.  You need to apply reader Extension permissions for the form and specifically , you need to add Embedded File Attachments reader extension.

  • Reader Extensions count:

    Hi,
We have LC 8.0 implemented in our organization. For testing in DEV environment, we Reader Extended a form. By mistake, instead of Reader Extending it in draft version, we did it in Final version. This incremented the forms processed count by 1. How can we revert it?
More over, what I observed is, once we Reader extend a form, and if we try to open it in LC Designer, it pops up a message saying that the credentials will be lost. If this is the case, in real time, let's say we reader extended a application form to the client and released it. After some time, we may need to do some minor enhancements for certain fields in the form. to do this, we need to open the form in Designer. This will cause the form to loose its RC credentials. Do we need to Reader extend it again which takes one more count for the no.of forms in our system?
How do we handle such instances?
    Best Regards,
    Chaitanya

Yes the Reader Extensions will be removed if you edit the form ...and you will have to put it back. Reader Extensions is sold in different ways (i.e # of forms that can be Reader Extended). My understanding is that you can Reader Extend the same form (allowing for updates to the Design) as many times as you want. You shoudl check with your sales rep to make sure you are using it in the correct way.

  • Does Adobe 9 Reader disable reader extensions?

I have and heavily use Adobe Reader Extensions 6.0. It has worked fine for some time, until now. When a user upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.0 from 8.12, the form would no longer save. Am I dead in the water until I upgrade? That's expensive!

Try creating a new shortcut to the installation, instructions as follows:
Right click the existing shortcut on your desktop and go to Properties.
Click the button called "Find Target". This will take you to the installation folder.
Delete the existing shortcut on your desktop.
In the installation folder, AcroRd32.exe will be highlighted already.
Using the right mouse button, drag it onto the desktop. When you let go of the right mouse button, you'll get a menu. Choose "Create Shortcut Here".
If the problems persist, do what the other contributor suggested and uninstall/reinstall. If you decide to reinstall v9 again, go here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
After you install it, close your browser and then open Reader via the desktop shortcut, go to Help | Check For Updates in order to update it to v9.4.6 which is the patched version.
Updating to v9.4.6 doesn't update the Firefox plugin which will remain at v9.4.5.236. That will expose your PC to security vulnerabilities and therefore it will be better to disable the plugin in the Plugins manager which you can access by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+A. Then click the link to "Plugins" in the menu and finally, click the "Disable" button. If you subsequently land on a PDF site, Firefox will display a dialog where you can choose whether to download the file to your local machine, or open it with the plugin. If you're on a bona fide site, then it's OK, but if you're unsure, download it to your own PC and then right click and scan it for malware before opening it.

  • LiveCycle Designer 8.0 Reader Extensions?

I converted our employment application to an form-fill PDF using my Web Premium CS3 LiveCycle 8.0.  After I was finished, I saved it and reopened it using Adobe Acrobat, then enabled usage rights so that the form could be edited and saved locally for an applicant, then saved it and uploaded it to our web server for applicants during the job application process.
I'm hearing that some are not able to save there edits.  Is this a license issue with Reader Extensions or?  I don't understand it enough to know if I need something more.
    Goal:
Let applicants download/open the PDF, edit the fields offered, save it to their PC locally, and then attach the edited PDF for uploading back to our web server.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi Paul,
When you say "Are you sure you gave them the Reader Extended Version?", do you mean did I upload the enabled pdf to the web server and not a different version (not enabled)?  I did and tested it on the remote server using terminal services and it worked.  Otherwise I don't know what you mean by Reader Extended Version
One of the applicants that said it wouldn't save confirmed they have Adobe Reader 9.0
I went ahead and attached it to this post.
    Thanks.

  • Browse and Edit Form - JSP

    Hi all,
Using BC4J and BC4J JSP to generate Browse and Edit Form, e.g. EmpView_browse.jsp, and EmpView_Edit.jsp, I want to show only a few attributes in browse, and all fields in edit. If I change the "display" in control hint to hide, the attribute will not be displayed in both pages.
