Editing images in PDF rotation/placement errors
Using Acrobat Pro 10.1.7 on mac 10.8.3
Customer supplied fully imposed sheet, reverse of sheet is black only, well should be, but one logo was 4 colours (black weight only 90%), so we edit the image using the Tool > Content > Edit image command, Photoshop opens the logo, we convert to greyscale (black now 100%) save and allow automatic update in Acrobat Pro.
Problem is the graphic update rotates the image by -90 degrees.
This also happened on a 4 colour image on a different sheet, different customer, where the crop and position of the image toally changed after a RGB image was converted to CMYK using the same method.
Tested this on earlier Acrobat 10.1.6 on mac 10.6.8 and the problem did not happen.
Anyone else experience this? Anyone know how to stop it from happening?

Editing Image From PDF File To Use in AI Document
Hello,
I am a beginner user of AI and am having trouble with editing certain images from PDF files on Illustrator. I'm not even sure what I'm trying to do can be done on Illustrator or requires Photoshop.
A) Here is the first example (Note that this is only similar to the type of image I am talking about. It is not the exact one as I don't have access to it right now):
So let's say here are the things I want to do. (1) Extract it from the PDF file, (2) transfer it to my AI document without blurriness, (3) change the white background of the image to another color (eg. grey), (4) and embolden the lines presently in the image. If you can advise what's the way to perform these tasks?
I have used image trace at times but if the photo is too light, portions of it will vanish. The portions that do remain become way too bold. It would be great if there was a way I could make most if not each components of the image controllable/movable. Is it possible?
Also, what if I want to erase some of the text on the image? I have tried using the eraser tool but it does not erase on images.
B) How would I go about removing the background of a photo like this and replacing it with a color?
Please keep in mind that I am a complete neophyte when it comes to using Illustrator, Photoshop etc so take this into consideration when explaining. Thanks in advanceTrent,
To make a clear and clean drawing like A), it is better to use the image as a locked template and recreate with the native tools; most things can be made with the Rectangle Tool and the Ellipse Tool, some with the Line Segment Tool or the Pen Tool; and you can use different Window>Pathfider operations.
It is probably easier to get rid of the surroundings in B) using Photoshop where you can erase colours within a range; the grass seen through the windows may be treated by itself, and you may wish to keep the shadow. -
Need help to batch color editing images on PDFs
We received PDFs (total few hundreds pages) with average 2 to 3 square-up images on each page.
Our job is to:
1. open up those PDFs, use the image-editing tool (right-click) from the Advance Editing menu to select the images one-by-one;
2. then edit the color using Photoshop, with a pre-save curve
3. save it and get the image updated on the PDF.
As you can see, it is a very tedious job for a project of close to thousands pcs of images to be edited in the same manner. Thus I were thinking of using scripts (preferable applescript but javascript is fine too) to perform the task but I don't know where to start from.

"View in Place" inline images and PDFs in Yosemite Mail
I'd like to have the "View in Place" option available for images and PDFs, but it appears to be missing in Yosemite Mail. It would be particularly helpful with this new Markup feature. Any ideas how I might do this?
When I drag a PDF or an image (TIFF, JPEG, etc.) into the body of an Apple Mail message, I see an icon of that file.
There used to be a contextual menu option to "View as Icon" or "View as Image" in previous iterations of Mail, but now with Yosemite, I am only able to send the message with the image or PDF file viewed as an icon. As a comparison, when Composing a message in the Gmail desktop web interface, you can click on the Insert Image Icon, and you are given the option to insert the image "Inline" or "As attachment." I like having both options and I wonder if there is a Terminal command or third-party solution to restore this functionality. -
Error while converting Image -to- PDF and then to PDF/A

I'm trying to convert a Image format(JPEG,bmp,tiff) to PDF and then to PDF/A. I could able to convert Image to PDF successfully.

Please give me the solution to convert PDF to PDF/A?I've just read a footnote in the API documentation which indicates that the transformPDF function cannot be used for this purpose:

WHEN I ADD AN IMAGE INTO A .PDF THE GRIP HANDLES DO NOT ALLOW ME TO RESIZE THE IMAGE.
INSTEAD I GET BLUE LINES ALONG THE SIDE THAT I CLICK ON AND THE WHOLE IMAGE MOVES WITHOUT RESIZING.
IT WORKED PROPERLY A FEW DAYS AGO NOW I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG.

Usually Acrobat has linked to PhotoShop to do the photo editing. You might check the updates for Acrobat and PhotoShop.

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

Multiple Artboards to PDF gives RAM error?
Hi,
I am currently wondering if I do something wrong or if there are some bug involved.
I am working on a walldesign, it will be printed as 3 pages. See attached file below.
I am using the artboards for aligning the background to match bleed and content correctly.
Below i used a .tif file as background that covers all area, Then i save PDF on each artboard,
I turn off Keep illustrator edit and Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4). All three pdfs seem to work, they open in Acrobat.
But doing it this way might corrupt the pdf?
If I import the pdf in photoshop it will give me RAM error. I have 64 gb ram in x64 enviroment so that should
not happen when the PDF is only 10 mb? On a similiar project the printers also had trouble placing the pdf
in their printing system also complaining on RAM? Or error on "Cant rasterize the image".
If i make 3 smaller backgrounds and remove all artboards and only have 1 for each part, then the above
error don't occur and everything is fine. So i guess its either multiple artboards or that the background is to large
in someway or is kept outside the trimarea in the pdf so it stays huge. I thought everything outside the cutting area
would be cropped away if I save without illustrator edit. The pdf size seem to tell me that it has cropped everything
outside. But the ram error will occur :|

It wont render in Chrome either, and trying to open in Photoshop gives me:
Could not complete the Open command because there is not enough memory(RAM)

Watermark PDF Documents Service error

I created a workflow application to watermark PDF's, and now I'm trying to create a service that does the same thing. The workflow works as an application, but the service is getting an error that reads: "The action “Move Finder Items” encountered an error." The service is included below. I can no longer edit images on external drive if logged in as another user even with permission.
I have two users on my computer. Me (admin) and another log-in for assistants, clients etc.
I use an external drive to hold images.
Lately I've had a problem where if I'm logged in as Other (this side for everyone else), I often am not able to edit images even though the permissions are set for this log-in to have complete read/write capabilities?
Even sometimes when I'm logged in regularly (my admin side) I have received a "File Reservation" error. It says the file is being used by another user. ????
Then it asks if I want to use Read-Only and do I want to be notified when the file becomes available. ????
What's happened to my files?Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall. -
How to add Images and PDFs in MDM iView

We use SAP Portal as interfase to access SAP MDM repository tables.We use MDM Record Set and MDM Item Detail iViews to display and operate with main table content.
There is a field in the qualified table, which is the lookup to the Images table. And the other field is the lookup to the PDFs table. Both fields are qualifiers.
In the main table there is a field, which is the lookup to the qualified table. When we try to add values to this field using Item Detail iView, we get a window, where we can fill all values of the qualified table, except Image field and PDF field - they are disabled. So, can we add Images and PDFs to the table using Item Datail iView? Or what is the other way to add them?

I want to create Badges from employee table (ID, NAME, JOB_TITLE, PHOTO). I downloaded and installed a demo application "USING DYNAMIC IMAGES IN PDF REPORT". It works fine with smale images < 20K. I'm getting the following error for images > 20K :
"ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: raw variable length too long"
it seems like a buffer problem.

That was exactly* I was looking for. Maybe I should Google more in German ;-)
The main problem was that I defined my image outside the first repeating group (that doesn't repeat, it's always just one object) - the first group is followed by 7 more.
Just like the "Name" (that's positioned outside the group in the document header), I positioned the image above the table representing the group.
Doing that, the "Name" is filled correctly, the Image only when the Output Format is Excel or HTML - not Word or PDF ... makes no sense but that's tje way it is.
After moving the image inside the group....it works great!
(One more thing...the image size is fixed to the image you use as "dummy". Is there any way to make that more flexible, because now some scaling happens...)???
@Trent: That was the way we initially did it, but when the size of the row exceeds 32K...you know what happens.. And even with a small image the 32K limit is hit easily
The way I use it now (very similar to Carsten's description) there is no limit....
