Editing in Multicam and having audio problems....

HI there,
I am a new PCPX user and learning quickly. Loving it!  I have been editing 3 different shows in Multi Cam editing and haven't had any problems as of yet with
audio.   On the third one now, and I've selected my main track and also selected "enable video switching only".  Only the audio is switching.  I've matched the audio,
which is helping but it's still noticeable to me and driving me insane....
Like I said, new to this, so not entirely familiar with ins & outs of FCPX yet!  Thanks!

It seems to work fine when I add transitions....I have no idea, since I didnt change anything.  The other segment on the same timeline still plays the other audio.  It's driving me nuts! Active Angle & Audio shows what its supposed to.  Chalk it up to a fluke or glitch in the program?  Not the first one i've had either, the other day it wouldn't render. Shut it down and restarted to work fine.  Is this normal for a newly purchased program???

  • Editing Film Photos and Virtual Copy Problem

I just scanned some film in and then imported it to lightroom. I am now running into a problem when I go to retouch/edit the film in photoshop. When I scan the film in it scans in as a .tiff file. I first tried to edit just the original to see if it would save back into lightroom as .psd but it didnt it saved the original tiff. I want to have two copies, the original and the edited file. So second I tried to make a virtual copy and edit that one and save it but again it saved both the virtual copy and the original file with the edits that I made. I finally tried right clicking the original file and editing with edit a copy. This finally worked I was able to have a copy and the original file unedited.
My question is if I edit this way and have a bunch of edit with copies is my picture sizes going to double? (having two copies of each photo, one edited and one original)
Or is there a way to edit a .tiff as a virtual copy and not have it save the changes to both files.
    hope this wasn't super confusing

    Thanks Sean..
Actually it did work but on the flickr side, i didn't notice until i logged on..  The Flickr side added a '2' to the virtual copy although Lightroom uses the original name/copy.  So i guess it works, just a little confusing.  I have not tweaked the virtual copy yet to see if it updates the '2' copy on Flickr or throws a wobbly instead
I used Jeffrey's plugin for sometime but eventually I decided to delete all my photos from flickr (new account anyway) and decided to go fresh with LR 3.  It works really well and any tweak i make get's republished without deleting any previous comments or data.  Jeffrey's just doesn't have that same visual impact and integration.  The LR version has a few quirks but seems stable enough for solid use...  Just need to be smart with it because pilot error can make problems.

  • Re post: Editing-- Insert video and move audio, preserving sync

Forgive me, a newbie, for posting this twice, but I think the iM6 group folks, not the iM8 folks, may have the a clue about this issue.
I really love iM6. I do have FCExp, but I've gotten so comfortable with iM6 that I hate to change. But I am frustrated by one thing.
I may be trying to do something too advanced for iMovie (6HD) but almost everything else with this product is so amazing, I can't imagine that they didn't build this in. I must be overlooking something.
I am making dvds from a VHS conversion of some 60-70s 8mm home movies. A labor of love for an aging parent. The amateur filmmaker used to project them with records playing, and at some point he collected all his chosen LP music onto a cassette (not on the video cassette, a music only cassette). So, I play the VHS and the music at the same time and use an analog to Firewire converter and load all into iM6. So far so good. Then, because I need to seriously mess with the music to put it more or less in sync with the video segments, I extract the audio so it now shows up as a second track. Still no problem. Now in editing I clip or split the audio into separate pieces and checkerboard them, alternating between the two audio tracks in the timeline so I can adjust volumes, cross fade, etc.
The first volume I did took a lot of twiddling and tweaking to keep all the clips in their proper places. I'd work at the end of the piece, then at the beginning then back to the end with the result that the audio clips were always sliding out of position. I can't quite figure out how to keep two audio tracks in sync with the video. BUT I did finally finish and when I started the next one, I swore that I'd always finish a segment and then move on to the next, always left to right, never tweaking the finished stuff to the left (earlier on the time line). This has made the job much easier but I have one big problem now. I did not think to put some black at the head of the project to put the titles on!
You'd think I could just put the cursor at 0:00 and insert a 6 second title over black and it would move all the video and audio to the right by six seconds. But what happens is only the video slides over. The two audio tracks don't move and are now six seconds early. Sure, I could go ahead and re-adjust all the 30 or 40 audio clips, but I can't help thinking that "Apple wouldn't make me do this..."
Has anyone any idea how to lock all the edited material together so I could insert some space to the left without losing sync?
PS does anyone share my frustration on THIS: when I copy a little piece of sound from one of those tracks and then paste the copy, there's no telling where it will land... It never goes to the cursor position. If I'm lucky it lands somewhere on the timeline after the project end and I can drag it back to where I want it. But on an hour project this is annoying.

I think I solved my own problem, and Klaus, you were correct, Lock to Play head is the key.
In order to select ALL the clips on both tracks you click and drag a box across all the clips you want to lock and then select Advanced/Lock Audio Clip at Playhead and all the clips will be locked to their video positions, though in my case only a few of them sprouted little yellow pushpins. I was then able to slug 6 seconds of Black in ahead of my video, and voila!, both video and attached audio moved over staying in sync. I knew Apple wouldn't let me down, though the answer was not explicit in any Apple documentation. I guess I'd better buy the book now.

  • Need to truncate data and having some problems

    Hi folks.
I'm relatively new to Java so forgive my naivety please.
I have a situation where I'm receiving XML address data in the format of 4 address lines of 35 characters each......and a postcode. Unfortunately, I have to find a way of evaluating this data and shoe horning it in to 3 address lines of 30 characters each on the system I'm maintaining.
If the combined data is still more than 3 lines of 30 characters I've just been told to send back an error response. Lovely system eh?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can tackle this problem in Java? I'm still looking about and having a think about it, but being new to the language I'm struggling a little.
Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Axiom: A requirement isn't a requirement without a test case.
Work with your customer to establish the acceptance tests for the requirements. That will help you with the "find a way of evaluating" part. Once you know the rules, you can start coding. We'll help you with the language translation issues (i.e., business-ese to Java), but it's up to you to make sure the requirements are firm and to write the initial failing test cases.

  • Having audio problems with Chrome

Like many, I'm having issues with the newest Flash update.  Specifically, the sound is just about all but cut out in the left speaker and quite distorted in the right.  I've used different programs and audio devices and it all comes back to the flash player.  I've tried just about everything suggested to fix this but still nothing.
Here's a screenshot of the plugins configuration in Chrome:
I've tried enabling and disabling each one of them to no avail.  Using the bottom one exclusively with fix the sound a bit but then the video is choppy and a lot slower.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • HP Pavilion dv9218tx Notebook PC and HDMI audio problem with Sony TV and Windows 7

Sound does not come through with the HDMI connection and, on investigation, there is no HDMI audio driver/option.
Noting that there seemed to be an issue with windows 7 and HDMI audio which is addressed by updating the BIOS and the connexant sound driver I have done so to no effect.
The Sony TV is recognised as a standard monitor in the devices for graphics but not for audio
Suggestions as to why HDMI does not appear - including as a disabled service - and what to do t get is available?

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I will definitely assist you with lack of sound issues. Before anything else is done, please make sure you try every step in this thread: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
If every step does not help, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. What steps have been attempted from my first post on this thread, and what were the results?
Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Either way, let me know what happens. Thanks!

  • EPIC and disturbing audio problem in FCE

I'm editing footage I shot in DV standard on my Canon HV30 in Final Cut Express. I originally imported with iMovie HD and then dragged the files over to final cut later. I rendered all the audio, but when I went back to play it, the audio was strangely looped over itself and repeating. It's hard to explain, and even harder to understand because the audio is of a crowd at a sporting event and therefore not predictable. After listening for a few seconds, and inexplicably loud tone started blaring. It sounded like it was about 300 Hz (by ear, not any real method of measurement). I checked out the audio waveform and nothing looks out of the ordinary, and I can play audio from other programs without any problem. My question is, what the heck is wrong with final cut? An explanation can't really do this justice; I practically had a heart attack, the tone was so loud and unexpected. Does anyone have any idea what this could be from?
    Thanks.

The underlying issue is that iMovie and FCE capture DV video differently. You can import an iMovie DV clip into FCE but it will always require rendering of the audio in FCE ... but even then the results are not always predictable.
iMovie captures DV video as *QuickTime DVstream,* essentially as-is from the tape; this means that +the audio & video are interleaved,+ which actually makes editing the audio difficult. (on a miniDV tape, the recording is made up of 10 slanted tracks per NTSC frame, each track containing video, audio & control data for its portion of the frame ... giving you some idea of the complexity of the interleaving).
FCE captures DV video as *QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov)*, (in North America) putting the audio & video into +separate, parallel, linked tracks+ in the QuickTime file; as a result the audio does not require rendering and it is much easier to edit.
Rendering the audio of a .dv clip in FCE only creates an audio render file that is associated with the original clip; it does not convert the clip to QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov).
MPEG Streamclip is the utility you should use if you want to convert files from QuickTime DV (.dv) to QuickTime DV-NTSC (.mov).

  • PP CC 2014 and P2 Audio Problem?!?

I'm having a rather frustrating problem with Premiere Pro Cc 2014 and P2 clips.  If I have an extended clip (over 4 minutes) the audio will suddenly flatline at about that point.  Usually during interviews.  Here is the timeline:
I've tried importing through the media browser and sending from Prelude with the same problem each time.  That same clips comes in fine with PP CC.  I just downloaded the update to 2014 and still have the problem.
    Ideas???

    Hi Mark,
I currently have this same condition on a project I am working on. I have loads of information that may be helpful. Here is the rundown:
The clip in question runs 6:38;03
The audio (all four channels) drops out at 5:00;11
in Premiere Pro the waveform disappears as well at 5:00;11
in Prelude, the waveform disappears at the same timecode, however the audio still plays.
The clip was originally imported using Prelude in its original P2 format as well as transcoded to Apple ProRes 4:2:2. The original footage still resides on the P2 card. The clips were also copied over a network to backup storage which is now at another location. I do not know if the condition followed.
I have imported the P2 clip from my hard drive, the original P2 clip from the card and the ProRes clip from my hard drive using the media browser for all three.
Both P2 clips drop out at the same time
The Pro Res clip has all the audio.
There has been no restarts or project opening closings since discovering the problem. I can maintain the current condition if you would like to use my situation for troubleshooting. Please let me know ASAP so I can plan accordingly.

  • Multicam and multiple audio tracks sync issue, dual system shoot

I've got a pesky problem with the multicam feature that has me stumped. I've got two cameras, slated with a clapboard, and one track of location sound recorded dual system on a seperate recorder. I have no matched TC on any of the tracks, got to use IN point only. I've tried making a merged clip for cam 1, then making the multiclip using the merged cam 1 clip and cam 2. The video of the multiclip is in sync fine, but the location sound (which is A3 on cam 1) is always offset and way out of sync.
I've tried blowing away A1 and A2 from the cam 1 merged clip, putting the location sound at A1, and using that master clip to create the multiclip, but to no avail. Still out of sync
It appears that because the location sound has a different start time in the merged clip than the video, FCP is getting confused about what to do with it.
I've been successful with this method before, but the last time I had matched TC on the cameras. For some reason making the multiclip using the IN point for sync isn't working this time.
Anyone encounter this and have a work around or solution?
    MacBookPro 2GhzDC 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Finla Cut Studio 5.1

I've tried blowing away A1 and A2 from the cam 1 merged clip, putting the location sound at A1, and using that master clip to create the multiclip, but to no avail. Still out of sync< </div>
Loyed's got way more experience with multicam than most of us so it's safe to follow his lead.
Not knowing exactly what's going on (sorry if you've already tried this), I'd sync up the audio and then export the newly merged clip as a self-contained movie. Reimport.
Hope you figure it out. Please return and post your solution for the benefit of those who come after seeking help with multiclips.

  • Switched over to Mac and having MAJOR problems with Powerbook G4

    Hello,
I'n the interest of not having to post many threads and to save bandwidth I will post my problems on one single thread so that you can address each issue.
    1) The adapter cord that plugs in to my Powerbook usually has a bright "yellow" light on the endge of the cord when plugged in. Recently the color changed to bright "orange" should I be concerned and is this a sign of something bad to come?
    2) When I press the power button "sometimes" the screen goes grey. I press the button, hear the chime, screen goes grey with a world logo that keeps flashing at limbo preventing me from getting in to the computer system. Why is this happening and how do I correct it?
    3) Select the Apple Icon on the top and go to Mac OSx software, IE Explorer loads and then FREEZES evertything on the system. It's as though it's crashing from the onset.
    4) At any given time while I'm searching through files or surfing the net a ridiculous littl ball appears in the shape of a rainbow that essentially locks my ENTIRE SYSTEM. I cannot click on any Icon or do much of anything. Forced to sit and helplessly look at this stupid object with no directive as to what to do. I can't even shut down my system in safe mode because it won't let me access the Apple Icon on the top menu. At last resort I have to HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON for 10 seconds just to shut it down.
    5) How can you retrieve files deleted by accident or do a system restore like you can in Windows? No disks came with my computer so I'm hoping that there is a button to click that can reverse actions and bring back system to an earlier time. I'm sure that Apple must have thought about this as people are going to make many mistakes and will need immediate and non complex recourse in restoring files and the system in general. I changed Admin privilidges to myself and deleted the former Admin of my system, thinking that it would only delete the "name" but instead I suspect that the system deleted 5GB of files that the former Admin installed? Not sure. I have nothing in my trash can and the deleted files under former Admin are in the form of an "image" on my hard disk. I tried to open the deleted file by clicking on the Icon and it's telling me "DISK IMAGE FAILED TO MOUNT no mountable file system. This is very frustrating as I need to see what files have been deleted and restore those that I need. I have OFFICE MAC X suite that now I can't locate and yesterday I downloaded the Opera browser and turned on the Mac this morning only to find that it to is gone.
Now granted Windows is a headache in itself but I never imagined that I would be going through all this madness with a Mac. Everyone spoke so highly of them and I'm finding out different from first hand experience. Hopefully, you can help me resolve the above issues as I'm feeling very frustrated with this computer.

    Hi again,
You definitely need to purchase some replacement disks for your computer. Just from hard shutdowns via the powerbutton can do system file damage and you need to Repair Dick using the install disk.
From your reply I would suggest obtaining a good Mac OSX users book such a one of the David Pogue books etc. You can find any number of them online for your OS. The learning of the Mac OS can be somewhat confusing for a switcher from PC and Microsoft OS's. I was somewhat lucky in that when I first started using computers I learned on a Mac so I never had any relearning curve to deal with. I think you will find if you stick with your Mac and OSX that you will learn to love it compared to PC's.
I can assure you that Apple did not drop the ball when it came to the PowerBooks as evident by it being one of the most succesful of all Mac notebook computers.....there are many many happy users still of PowerBooks. There is a specific forum here in Discussions for Powerbook computers that may help you with certain issues.
re: "I went ahead and downloaded my favorite browser Opera for the second time, since it disappeared yesterday after I restarted my machine. Hopefully, I will find it on the Doc the next time I start my system."
Once you download an app to your Mac you will need to place it in your HD/Applications folder. From there you can simply drag it's alias to the Dock or click open the app and then when the icon appears in the Dock click on its icon in the Dock once and hold and from its pop up contextual menu select "Keep In Dock". Applications do not automatically stay in the Dock.
I am not sure I follow your description of the problem of the lost 5GB of files that were on some sort of Disk Image and how you are trying to retrieve them for me to be able to help. If you have deleted the files they are gone on your computer and you will need to use a third party software to recover them (DataRescue is one such utility but these are expensive softwares and can have varying results with file recovery). If you know the name of any of the missing files you can do a search using the finders search field (double click on your HD icon and then use its search field upper right) to make sure that the files are indeed not on your HD anymore.
I also wanted to suggest when using the command +option + escape key combination to force quit a process sometimes may take a couple or a few tries to get it to work sometimes (at least that has been my experience). Did you read through Dr. Smoke's FAQ concerning the SBBOD?
In the end you will need to learn common system maintenance for your OS to function properly such as Repairing Permissions via Disk Utility and running the cron maintenance (daily, weekly and monthly) tasks which can be done manually or by downloading a third party freeware utility such as MacJanitor to help do this easily. One of the biggest reasons to have your install disks is this is how you will need to repair the disk for system corruption among other problems. This can only be done with OS 10.3.9 by using the install disk and booting to its DiskUtility.
I hope these tips help a little more and do post back with further questions,

  • PSE 7.0 - importing videos as .avi and having sound problems

I am doing a slideshow with mainly pictures and want to include a few videos in my slideshow as well.  I have imported the .avi videos and they are inserted after the pictures.  The pictures are set to a song and then the song has stopped and I have the slide show set to NOT continue to play the song till the end.  The problem is the videos have no sound.  When I open them in windows media player though they are fine.  Any suggestions?

Export the AVI as WMV in window movie maker and import the WMV in slide show  then export as wmv. Lots of codec are using in different format it could be an issue of audio codec using in AVI file.

i used to backup : Universal bios backup utility
EDIT: i tried to reflash 65CN15WW by using autoexec winflash variables i get message EFI error unsupported BUT after that i only ran winflash.exe and set to only flash new bios option. Then select bios file to flash click on flash new file button and pray

  • Having challenges installing Digital Editions 2.0 and having the program initialize correctly.

I need to install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) 2.0 so I can download books for my daughter's Nook from our local library.
I have tried installing ADE 2.0 way too many times to absolutely no avail.  After downloading the ADE 2.0 install program, I have tried installing with Norton virus and firewall software turned off, turned on, restarting my computer after an ADE 2.0 install attempts with virus protection off and on, and everytime I have tried to do anything with the supposedly installed ADE 2.0, it crashes and Microsoft opens its error mesaging window because ADE 2.0 has encountered a problem.
On a couple times I have also received this error message:
Digital Editions.exe - Application Error Instructions at "0x8514c483" referenced memory at "0x8514c483".  The memory could not be "read".  Click "ok" to terminate the program.
I have also re-downloaded the install program numerous times under different anti virus software operating scenarios (software enabled/disabled, etc), and everytime after the installation is complete, the program crashes.  Each time an install attempt failed, I uninstalled the program and went through a full ADE 2.0 install.  Sometimes still using the same install program and also after re-downloading the ADE 2.0 install program.  Everything I have tried has failed.
I am also using an older Windows XP PC, but despite being a relatively older computer, this install and initialization challenge should not be occurring.
Short of finding a copy of the ADE 1.7 version and seeing if that will work (was suggested by user sjgt when replying to a post by su-anster on 26 Dec at 0358), does anyone have any suggestions?  This should not be such a challenge.  Thx

Thanks for our reply.  I already have installed Overdrive Media Console
without any challenge.  What I have ended up doing as a quick fix is I
located and downloaded the ADE 1.7 version and after doing so, everything is
working fine.  Obviously I am not using Adobe's latest and greatest ADE 2.0
version with whatever associated bells and whistles, but ADE 1.7 is doing
what I need to do to and that is allow me to download Adobe Epub files from
our local library and to create an interface to my daughter's Nook.  If
using the 3M Cloud app provides some greater functionality I might try that
as well, but my problem is not connectivity with my daughter's Nook.  It is
ADE 2.0 not installing and initializing on my computer.  I never got to the
point of trying to download files because ADE 2.0 was constantly crashing
when I opened the supposedly, correctly installed program.
