Editing Premiere cs4 project with premiere elements 9?

Can I open a premiere cs4 project with premiere elements 9 to edit it.
Thanks in advance

You are most welcome, though it's probably not the answer that you wanted.
There are just so very many differences between the two programs. As a test recently, I took a PREL from PrE 8, IIRC, and it would not even open in my PrPro 2.0, like my simple PrE 4 Projects would. That PrE 8 test Project was also simple, with no Themes, or Instant Movies - just Cuts and some common Transitions, no Effects. Just too different to Open.
Good luck,
Hunt

Can I open a premiere cs4 project with premiere elements 9 to edit it.

I'm going to throw out a somewhat educated guess and say no.  Despite the similar monikers, Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro are two different programs.

  • Editing AE or Premiere CS4 projects in Audition 3?

Is there a way to import an After Effects CS4 or Premiere CS4 project with muitiple audio tracks/layers into Audition 3 and edit/balance each track individually? Have been using Soundbooth to clean up audio from individual video clips, but want to balance & add effects to multiple audio tracks prior to rendering final video. Thought Audition 3 might be a better option than using Premiere's audio mixer?

You can't do it quickly and easily but it is possible by making a rough rendered version (DVavi works well) to work with picture in Audition. Import that into Audition where the video and rough audio will be split to give you a guide track. You can then import all your individual audio tracks saved as .wav files into Audition to work on them and make a final mix to re-import back into Premiere for the final render.

  • Import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7.

Is it possible (or NOT) import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premiere Elements 7?
Thanks a lot for any help.

It is only possible to open some PrE Projects into the right version of PrPro, but will not work the other way around. The error message that you will get is "This Project was created in Adobe PrPro and you need to open it in that program."
Even going the PrE to PrPro route is filled with potholes. I can open some PrE 4 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but not all - depends on what was done. Later versions of PrE will not open in PrPro 2.0, but some have opened in CS3 and CS4, though much can keep one from being able to do that.
    Sorry for the bad news,

  • CREATING "MASTER" PROJECT WITH PREMIERE ELEMENTS (PRE)

I am creating a new thread following up on earlier questions re Premiere Elements 8.0 (PRE).
I have created (authored?) 14 projects with music using PRE and burned each on 1 DVD.  I did not save to a folder, but went to Share and Burn Disc.  They show well on TV from an ordinary DVD player.  Now I must combine these projects into 3 "master" projects on 3 DVDs and burn multiple copies to send to former members of my Boy Scout Troop.  See the chart below. I thought (silly me) that I could do that straightforwardly with PRE.  I am going to start following suggestions from Bill Hunt and Nealeh.

Hey, those ain't "newbie" questions. The first one gets posted to the Forum Comments forum weekly. The second one, well I should have posted my normal detail, but got lazy - mea culpa, mea culpa.
1.) This ARTICLE should step you through the processes with the e-mails. If you have any questions, let us know. There are several places, where e-mail notification can be turned ON and OFF. Some are global, and some are specific to threads.*
2.) Ah, the ImgBurn site. The top 2/3 are all ads. Hey, it's great free software, so who can blame 'em? Scroll down to where the page has the various versions and what they addressed. There is a Download button there (well below those ads). That is what you want. Normally, I mention the scrolling way down page, but you caught me here.

    * Going back a few months, while trying to help another user on the Forum Comments forum, I got hit with a global change in my e-mail settings. I got about 1,000/day, for every forum that I participate in - think 1,000 x PS, PrPRo, Encore, InDesign, Illustrator, Audition, PrE and all of their sub-fora! Fortunately, it only took about 3 days for Adobe to get that fixed.

  • Merging two projects with Premiere elements 12.

    Hello,
On my computer (windows 7) i have different directories with movie-fragments. From each directory i made a movieproject. It took a long time to trim everything. Now i have one project from 1,5 hours and another from 20 minutes. I would like to put the two projects together and then cut it into two projects. I was suprised that i could not do that. I could not copy the movie with titles in one project and copy it to the other project. Also i could not find any way to import one movie into the other. Very strange. I would think that this is a basic function the program should have.
I found out that i can work of course with the Project Asset and import the moviefragments again, but then i have to trim everything again.
I could also export one movie as for example AVI and then insert it with the Project Asset into the other project. But then i have no possibility to change the titles and transitions.
Does anyone know a way to merge two projects?????
    Many thanks, Stephan

Important: What version of Premiere Elements are you referring to in the above? Or, are you referring to another program that is not Premiere Elements?
No version of Premiere Elements allows the user to open one project file (project.prel file) in another.
You can copy/paste insert between two project files (project.prel) using ClipMate in conjunction with Premiere Elements. You cannot do a copy/paste insert between projects without ClipMate in use with Premiere Elements. The How To for this Windows Only feature is found

The alternative is to export your project 1 Timeline "trim" selectively to a file saved to the computer hard drive and then import that export into project 2.
In this workflow considerations need to include project 1 export format consistent with project 2 import settings.
So, we need details to explain the why not for

  • Problem opening a Premiere cs3 project in Premiere cs4

i recently did a clean install on a new machine with adobe premiere cs4
i attempted to open the project in adobe cs4 that i created in adobe cs 3
( i confirmed that the project isnt corrupted as the same project plays fine on another machine that has cs3 running)
Here is what happens When i open the project in cs4 it goes through the stages below and keeps looping and indexing.
*first pass: i first see adobe indexing the project and there is a  media pending display in the program display and on the time line the thumbnails have not been created where the edits are.
    * second pass: adobe finishes the indexing and then i see adobe looping again to conforming the video again, there is still a media pending display in the program display  but this time the thumbnails have appeared on the timeline and i see the subclips in the project bin.
    * Adobe stops indexing but there is still the media pending display on the program display so then i grab the timeline slider to scroll throught the project and then the indexing process starts all over again in this endless loop.
The project is located on a local drive and i turned off indexing on the drive.
I also tried deleting the rendered and preview files from the cs3 copied project , hoping that
CS4 would recreate everything. and still no luck
Any specific steps that i can do to trouble shoot this problem

When one Opens a CS3 Project in CS4, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. I'd Open the Project, and go get some coffee (decaf, so you will not loose your patience). Just let it do its thing with no input to the computer at all. Come back in 5 - 10 mins. and see if all have been completed. Be patient.
If you are actually getting a loop in the Conforming, Indexing and the rest - remember be patient - then close down and reboot. Try Importing the CS3 Project into a New Project in CS4 to see if things improve.
BTW did I mention being patient?

  • Premiere CS4 - Encoding with AME ridiculously slow

    Hello there.
After having read many threads on various forums, I have not come to a single hint as to why AME is encoding any type of video materal extremely slow. I'm sorry if this question has been asked many times on this forum, but maybe someone has come up with a working solution?
    My computer specifications are:
Windows Vista 32bit (yes I know, upgrade is needed)
    Intel Quad Core Q9000 @ 2 GHz
    4 GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT - 512mb
    500GB sATA HDD @ 5400 rpm
This is a notebook. I use Premiere CS4 and AME4 with the most current updates (v4.1)
Here is what I usually do:
I export my project media from Premier to AME with the appropriate format and encoder settings, close Premiere and kill all background tasks. My RAM usage is now at around 1.4 GB (out of 3 GB!).
In this case, I'd use the built-in MPEG2 codec with PAL settings (720x576 - 25i - 8Mbit/sec), the source file is in MPEG4 @ 20Mbit and 10 minutes long. I started the encoding process and it was slowing down from 10 minutes initially to a frustrating render time of 60 minutes. Why?
I have used VirtualDub and TMPGEnc, both achieved, compared to AME, incredibly low render times, a bit higher than double realtime. When I use AME the same way, as encoder for an avi file only and not a Premiere project, it is losing by 6-7 times of the other programs render time.
    Second scenario:
I have 20 seconds uncompressed avi material (600Mbit/sec) and like to convert it to MPEG4 with AME. MPEG4 settings are at 50Mbit, I-frames only, 50fps and progressive. I started the encoding again and at first, AME was rushing through 1/4th of the progress bar in 5 seconds, and then slowing down to an overall encoding time of 50 (!) minutes and it ended about 52 minutes later.
During this rendering I had the windows resourcemonitor (of the taskmanager) open and checked the access rate to my hard disk. For the entire duration of 50 minutes, AME read between 50 megabyte and 125 megabyte per second on the hard disk. The file itself was less than 2 GB large - what on earth could it read? Also, my RAM usage came close to 2,8 GB but never reached 3 GB or higher.
Does anyone have an idea or is it just that freeware programs are superior to a costly AME?

I have already run that test about 4 hours prior to writing this thread. Now I'm not at this computer, but from top of my head the results were:
    Total 180 (about)
Export Avi 38 (not entirely certain, could be up to 10 higher)
Encode MPEG 90 (not entirely certain, could be 20 lower or higher)
Render Time 7 (the only number I recall correctly)
I'm well aware my hard disk isn't fast - but why should VirtualDub be able to encode a 2gb uncompressed avi clip with a duration of 20 seconds to DivX in about a 1/3rd real time/8fps (using 50mbit, i-frames and 50fps and amazing quality) while AME takes 50 minutes (1/200th realtime) for the same file with the integrated MPEG4 encoder?
Now, I know that those are different codecs, yet their data reduction works on a similar base. From my point of view, there's not much that could explain such a high discrepancy of performance on the hardware side, other than AME just does not like my computer configuration. I know my computer is very capable to perform way better than that, just with about any other program but AME, and that is a royal pain.
Unfortunately, I am unable to install a second HDD in this notebook, because it is full. I do know it could perform better using a secondary HDD, but I have also encoded files with Adobe Premiere CS3, and that performed way better than CS4 on the same computer.

  • Issues rendering Premiere CS4 movie with Media Encoder

I'm new to this but thought that someone might be able to provide some insight. I have Premiere CS4 and created a movie from a HD video camcorder.
The imported clips are in the following format:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Average Data Rate: 1.3 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Now I'm simply trying to export the movie (Ctrl+M) using Media Encoder. I've been messing around with several different formats, including H264, MPEG and AVI and so far regardless of what output format I pick (even downsize) I'm getting some sort of "tearing" up in my clips. I'm not entirely sure how to describe this but it almost looks like a ghost effect with subjects leaving a ghost image when the scene starts moving around a bit.
I rendered the same exact clip using Windows Movie Market just for the sake of it and everything looks fine.
I'm rendering the clip on a Core i7 920 @3.7Ghz with 6GB of RAM so I don't think the speed is an issue as either (HD is a 300GB Velociraptor).
Any ideas what I am doing wrong
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • Premiere CS4 Project lost - Windows 7

    Hello there,
I have been working on a wedding video for weeks, just when i was about to finish the last few seconds, already done the color correction and such, the next day when i try to turn on the computer again. I first used Photoshop to batch and resize the image i was gonna use for the final slideshow clip for the video, then i used After Effects CS4, done the slideshow and exported the video. So I was gonna go back to the original project i was working on for weeks, to import the slideshow i just have done and finish the whole clip, when I opened the Premiere CS4, I just realized the project is no longer there, along other project I started weeks ago.
I think this is Windows 7's fault, since the project's saved location is at My documents, under Adobe's Premiere's folder, I guess somehow they got deleted or the system just recovered the old setting? No idea. But I am so frustrated that I worked weeks on the video wedding that I am not happy with the footage I shot, and was a pain in the *** to select the clips and got them in the place..  Seems now I have to start all over? Is there anyway to recover that lost project file?

I thught you may had the same problem as me.
It happen to me, that I thought I got lost all my project, because I was able to open it, but I couldn't see anything in my timeline. The timeline was closed, so I went to the menu "window" and reopened "timeline", but no content and no channels were there: no video, no audio and I couldn't open new channels. So I thought I lost everything. I try to drag into the timeline my sequence (default name "sequence 01)", but nothing happen. There must be some shortcut near control+S to save, that do this.
But I found the solution. If I double click on "sequence 01" on the window with all the files contained in the project ("Project window", shortcut Shift+1),  everything comes back.
I hope this can help other people looking for solutions.
    here the answer I found:
So you lost the Timeline Window? Is it a bug, an oversight, or did they do it to us on purpose??
In Adobe Premiere Pro, the Timeline options disappear from the Window menu if you accidentally close the timeline window. If you lose the timeline window, you have to hunt around for a way to open it. Some of the keyboard shortcuts actually crash Premiere when the timeline window is closed.
I found that the easiest way to open the timeline window is to look in your Project Window for a sequence file. The default sequence is named Sequence 01. Double-click the sequence, and the timeline window magically reappears.

  • Premiere CS4 problems with Snow Leopard 10.6.7

I know that this is draging the depths of history but we have eight MackBook Pros with Snow Leopard (no roll back possible) and various CS4 progeams on in the college at which I teach.  We have a problem with Premiere in that clips will not play either in the preview, timeline or program areas rendering the whole program useless.  I don't think this is a problem that unknown; has anyone found a solution othere than installing 5.5 of course?

That is not good... PPro requires FULL access to the system to work properly... it just is not designed to be run on a limited use account
Also (Mac may be different???) to use some of the functions in Encore in the Win7 world, you not only have to be running the program from an Administrator account, you actually have to right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator from the list of options
Welcome to the wonderful world of computer security settings that get in the way of doing work
To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

  • Premiere CS4 freezing with ATI 4850

    My system:
    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz
    EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX X58 SLI
    Corsair 750W PSU
    6GB DDR3
and I've upgraded from a Geforce 7800GT to an ATI XFX Radeon HD 4850.
Adobe Premiere CS4 freezes after a minute or so of playback with my ATI HD 4850.  The screen literally freezes and I have no choice but to force a reboot.  On my Geforce 7800GT, the playback is laggy/unresponsive but it never froze.
I've sent it in to XFX for repair previously because it wouldn't play back any HD video files. But now everything plays fine except playback in Adobe Premiere. XFX even sent me a benchmark test for Devil May Cry and because my computer passed, they refuse to RMA the card again.
    I've tried EVERYTHING!
    - Several different versions of the drivers: 10.4,10.3,9.11, all with no luck.
    - Enable ATI Overdrive: when I auto-tuned it, it immediately crashed my computer and would do so consistently upon start-up so I had to disable it.
Any advice/comments/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
This is my second ever ATI card and I must say I've been very disappointed.  I have never been able to have one work 100% for even a full 24 hours!!!

I had issues with my Radeon 4670, similar but not quite the same as yours. In my case, rolling back drivers to 9.11 was the solution, but it sounds like you've already attempted that. If that hasn't solved the problem, and you're only seeing the issue after a minute or so of running PPro (my issue revealed itself immediately), I would look at a cooling/overheating problem. The newer GPUs (even though the 4000 series isn't that new) run hot even when they're not doing anything, and once you put them under any sort of load, the temperatures skyrocket. And since yours crashes during the auto-tuning, this lends more creedence to this theory; I was able to clock mine all the way up, but it's got a big honkin' aftermarket cooler on it.
I'm assuming you didn't send your whole PC in when you RMA'ed the card, so, 1) you don't know what kind of setup they tested the card in and 2) you don't know if they tested the card at all. For all practical purposes, this card should work "fine" with CS4, so the likelihood increases that there is some sort of physical defect with the card or cooling. Other folks here have a better grasp of the hardware and how to get the most from it (I'm more of a plug-it-in-and-hope-it-works kind of guy), so they might be able to tell you some ways to test the card and check its operating temperatures.

  • Updating Encore CS4 project with subsequent changes in Premiere Pro CS4

Hi, I would like some help with the following issue (I could not find anything in the documentation):
If I create an Encore project (CS4), then watch the resulting DVD and realise that I still need to make a few changes in my original premiere Project / sequence, is there any way of updating the Encore Project without having to start from scratch?
When I tried this today, Encore still just told me about the transcoded previous version of my sequence and I could find no way of convincing the programme that the sequence had changed. When I tried to import the new sequence, for some reason the import function showed me only the top two levels of my directory tree and so I would not access the right directory to try if that option would have worked.
In the end I started a new project, but I guess there must be a better way, especially if you have already finished a complicated menu set-up etc.
    Many thanks for your help.

If you dynamic linked, select the sequence in Encore (not the timeline made from it), right click and "Revert to Original."
If you did not dynmamic link, but exported and kept the project embedded, you can right click and pick "Edit Original."
For exports, you can also use the "Replace asset," but use a different name.
