Editing scanned document

Having scanned a document with the All in one Drskjet 3515 I am unable to convert the pdf file to Word so that the doc. could be editd. I am unable to down load the Adobe file converter As I keep getting the notice the Sale of this product is not supported in Trinidad. Question  Are there any other options but to convert to pdf  and must one purchase the file converter to support editing a scanned doc.?  ( I did not have this problem with my previous printer.)
Thanks for some information.

  • Editing scanned document with Adobe Pro

Is it possible to edit scanned documents that are saved as pdf files? I know the search or find command do not work on scanned documents. Our office is going paperless but there are times that we need to go back to the original document and make changes instead of reproducing the original, making the changes and then creating a new document

you'd need a good OCR (Optical Character Recognition) application to convert the images to text first.
After that, you'd probably want to export the text to something like a Word document for editing.
Most of the time it's easier just to recreate the document.

  • Editing Scanned documents

I am unable to edit documents I have scanned into my computer using HP printer F2480; ie. the document cannot be altered or cut and paste extracts to use elsewhere.  Any thoughts on how to correct this restriction.

OK, what are you scanning?  Is it a printed or typed document? Is it on white paper or colored paper? Did you have a choice to scan to editable RTF?  What format is the resulting file?  How many pages are you scanning?  How large is the file?

how do i edit a scanned document in word

That's impossible. Scanned images are pixel data, not editbale text. You'd have to run it through some OCR process first like in Acrobat, but even then it may just end up being a collection of isolated text objects, not easily editable paragraph text....

  • Mac os x 10.7.4 connected to a photosmart c309a. Scan documents to word and edit?

I have a mac os x 10.7.4 connected to a photosmart c309a.  I use the mac drivers to scan document.  Everything is updated and working fine.  However, I would like to scan a document, copy it to word, and edit.  How can I do this?

The OCR software does not necessarily need to integrate with the HP Photosmart driver.  You scan the document, save it as a JPG, TIFF, PDF or whatever and then run the OCR software against the scanned file.
I use Readiris with an HP AIO printer on Lion and it works just fine, using MS Word to edit the results.

  • How do I make a scanned document editable?

Is there an app (or program) already on my Mac that allows me to edit a scanned document, or to scan directly into Pages or Word For Mac?  I don't mind purchasing a program, if necessary, but it seems Mac has lots of functionalities built in... if you know where to find it.

You need OCR (optical character recognition) software.
It's not built in to OS X, so you'll have to search for a solution. There is an abundant selection in the App Store. Here is one and there are many others.
Readiris has been around for a very long time. I used it a while ago, but it's expensive, and there may be better alternatives today.
I have none in particular to recommend, so read the reviews and choose accordingly.

  • Editing a Scanned Document

I was emailed a scanned document and am having trouble trying to edit it in Preview. Do I need to download software to edit it, even if its not from a scanner attached to my computer? If I have to, are there any free applications or is Vuescan the only option? I doubt I would use it very often to justify buying it.
    thanks.

To truly edit text in a scanned document requires using OCR software. VueScan is probably the least expensive alternative. To OCR a PDF image file you can try PDF Pen Pro - both at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Editting a scanned document

Hello everyone i am new to this forum.  But i am going crazy trying to figure out how to make changes to the text of a scanned document but not change the background picture.  is this possible with adobe acrobat? if not any suggestions?

Acrobat's OCR methods Formatted Text and Graphics (Acrobat 8) or Clear Scan (Acrobat 9) more readily lend themselves to editing.
With that said it is not always like falling off a log in the river.

I just purchased this product to be able to edit a scanned document. I assumed that editing means I can cut and paste portions of the document to a microsoft word document that I am working on. in this case the scanned document is a fax from an internet based fax provider. Please explain to me how I would do this.

Which Adobe Product have you purchased??

    Hi jwt32068,
    In order to help you.
Please let me know which application/Service of Adobe you are using.
You may be able to do that depends on quality of scanned document using Acrobat Pro.

  • Scanned document - OCR - editing

(it is possible that i am overanalyzing this problem, but here's what's going on)
I am trying to scan a 150+ page, double sided document. Trying to run OCR on it, and then make edit’s/revisions to this document. All of this while trying to maintain the layout of the document
I’ve never really used Acrobat before so I figured I’d download the trial version of it (and subsequently Illustrator too). I am running Photoshop CS2.
The document is an old out of date, songbook with guitar cords. So it is not your standard layout. The thing about this “project” is that occasionally there are handwritten corrections to the cords. So I am trying to capture all the text, but maintain the layout of the document. And at the same time be able to edit the text.
Now the problem(s) I am running into, and these could simply stem from my not being that familiar with Acrobat and Illustrator; are 1. after I run the OCR in Acrobat, I can select, copy, and paste the MAJORITY of the text from the scanned page to a Microsoft Word document, BUT any time I try to edit the text, it does rather interesting stuff, like if I highlight and delete a word, it just moves the end of the text box closer, but the image of the word remains. Now if after “deleting” the word, I highlight, copy and paste to a Microsoft Word document again, I see that the word has been deleted there. 2. If I then import the OCR-ed pdf into Photoshop it does not import the text in an editable form.
I don’t know why Acrobat is not letting me completely edit the text because I was expecting it to allow me to do so…., I have stumbled upon a couple places that mentioned that I might not have the appropriate “Font” file to be able to fully edit the document in Acrobat, if so, is there any possible work around, other than simply retyping everything in Photoshop?
Basically the long and the short of this, is that I want to be able to import these scans into Photoshop, while capturing the text, so that I don’t have to re-type everything, but I am able to clean up, edit, and re-arrange the page(s) as I see fit.
any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use Acrobat but I suggest you ask in the Acrobat forum !
