Editing sound, adjusting arrows to move in smaller increments?

The arrows are set to move in increments of single bars, left and right.  I want to move in smaller increments to be able to do subtle audio editing.  I don't want to go into the sample editor though, not THAT subtle.  I'm editing narration and voice-over.  How would I reset the arrows to move in smaller increments?
And while I'm at it ... when I right click I get my tools list, I can mouse my choice, but beside each tool is a number from 1 - 0 ... as if I could just use a keystroke: but these numbers open other windows or do something else besides give me a particular tool to work with.  How can I activate those numbers as keystrokes so I can bop back and forth between arrow and scissors and fade?
That's two questions I know, but I bet if you have the answer to one you probably have the answer to the other ...
All ears, and all the best to you ...
Ben

Hi
Q1 Forwards/backwards with Playhead
There are several Keycommands for this (not defined by default). Check Preferences:Key Commands and search for 'Forward' and 'Rewind'
Q2
There are a variety of ways to select Tools. You seem to have a Right click set to Show Tools and Shortcut Menu.
You can call up the tool menu by pressing (and releasing) the Escape key, then you can use the numbers/letters to call up the tool you want,
This method does not work with a 'right click' setup, as you have discovered.
Alternatively, one can assign keycommands to directly call up the tools you need.

  • In Lion, why did Apple remove the up/down arrows in the scroll bars?  There is currently no way to move up and down in small increments.  WHY????

    Every mac operating system software until Lion had the ability to use up/down arrows in the scroll bar.  This makes it easy to move up and down in small increments.  In Lion, it is impossible to move up and down in small increments.  Click on the scroll bar and it moves up or down an entire page.  When you try to put the curser on the scrollbar and move it up just a little, it moves a whole bunch.  With the up/down arrows, you can click on the arrow and it will scroll ulp or down one line a time.  There is no way to do this in Lion. Why would apple remove the very useful feature of up and down arrows.

    Yes, agreed a missing element.
    Did you try using the up / down arrows on the key board.

  • How to adjust the sound volume in small increments in Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)?

    I use a Macbook that has dedicated sound volume buttons (F11 and F12).
    In Mac OS 10.6 I was able to adjust the sound volume in smaller increments (1/4th of a square) by pressing SHIFT + OPTION + VOLUME UP/DOWN.
    This stopped working after the update to 10.7. Any ideas?

    Unfortunately they did away with this feature in Lion.  Hard to understand why.
    You can with something like AudioHijackPro manage your System sound to a much higher degree. A very versatile piece of software.

  • IMovie can't edit sound for a portion of an event

    Is there anyway of editing just a portion of the sound track from an event? I coughed during a video, and rather than have to redo all 12 minutes, I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either. But when in sound edit mode, iMovie auto-selects the entire event, so any edit I make, like reducing the volume, is done to the entire event. When I select a portion of the video, then try and invoke sound editing, it just won't happen. This just plain doesn't make any sense to me, but I don't know anything about sound/movie editing, so maybe this is just a limitation of iMovie.
    Any suggestions?

    We-ell, it probably seems to AppleMan, and possibly others, that you DO really need "..10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.." ..and a good place to start is Apple's own iMovie Tutorials; there's a whole pile of them here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie .
    You say "..I finally figured it out. You can't take the whole event into the project.." ..but you CAN. Just click anywhere on an Event (..that's any single clip in your 'Events' window..) then - as is standard throughout Apple programs - hold down the Apple ('Command') key and press the letter 'A' ..and that "Selects All" of that clip.
    You can then drag all that clip into your 'Project' window. (..Dragging, I find, is far simpler than, as you say, "..select the event, then click on the Edit button to move it to the project"..)
    But you asked about audio editing. There are several ways to do what you want:
    You said "..I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either.." ..If you've already got, in your Events clips, a picture - or video clip - which you want to use to "cover up" your coughing, select that Event and drag it on top of the section of clip which you want to obscure in your Project window. When you release the mouse button to drop that clip on top of the clip which you want to obscure, here's what iMovie's Help file says will happen:
    (..You have looked at iMovie's Help pages, haven't you? ..Search under, for example, 'Replace'..)
    Anyway, when you drag a clip from Events onto a clip in your Project and release the mouse button, this little menu pops up:
    ..You can then choose what you want to do with that "cutaway" clip, such as "Replace at Playhead" or "Cutaway". Using it as a "cutaway" (..temporarily cutting away to that different shot, and then coming back to the original..) will then position it above the original clip. You can then click on the little "cogwheel" icon at the start of that cutaway clip, and then, in its drop-down menu, click on 'Audio adjustments', and choose 'Ducking: Reduce volume of other tracks..' and that will reduce - to zero, if you like - the sound from the underlying original track for the duration of that cutaway, so that your coughing disappears.
    A second - and maybe simpler? - way to remove the coughing is to simply Split the video clip which has the coughing: Split it so that the sequence with the coughing ..let's say it's 3 seconds long.. becomes a separate 3-second clip. Then just click on the "cogwheel" icon at the start of that 3-second clip, and choose - as before - 'Audio adjustments', and then just drag the clip's audio level down to zero. So that you're not left with no sound at all, copy a short section of audio from elsewhere (..how? it's in the Apple Tutorials..) and paste it underneath that 3-second clip, or add music, or add an audio clip of general nondescript "ambience".
    AppleMan did his best to help you. You might have offered him some thanks instead of just stamping your virtual foot and saying "..I don't need to be referred to 10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.."
    He offered you help, and you spat at him. If you try a little courtesy next time; it'll get you much further.
    (P.S: I see that AppleMan already succinctly explained to you exactly how to do this in your other question called "Can the sound track be deleted from a small portion of video?" ..!)

  • Combining and Editing Sound in Titles Clip

    Okay, now that I actually managed to capture the sound I wanted from my camera to my computer I am unable to find anything in the iMovie tutorial that explains how to get the sound and titles together AT ALL, much less exactly the way I want. How do you edit sound to coordinate it with picture? For instance:
    1. Because of the nature of the capture device, I had to capture sound at the beginning and end of the clip that I didn't want to ensure I got ALL the sound I DID want. As a result, I want my opening titles sound to BEGIN at 1:23:28 and END at 1:59:17. I think the clip is almost exactly this length. If it's longer, and there's black screen/no sound for a few seconds at the end, FINE, but I don't want extra sound at the end of the audio clip spilling over onto the picture (titles). So how do I make sure that JUST this part of the clip ends up on the titles without recapturing it trying to cut it closer, and
    2. How do I get the sound to play at the same time, in the same clip as the titles, at all? What is the exact process of putting picture and sound together?
    Thanks for any replies. I'm off to work on the parts I do understand.

    Although I can't find anything about combining picture and sound in the iMovie Tutorial, I did find something about shortening clips:
    Keeping Only the Parts You Want
    Edit clips in the timeline view
    1. Click the Timeline Viewer button in the iMovie window.
    2. Select a clip from the iMovie timeline.
    3. Move your pointer to near the end of the clip and notice the pointer change to two arrows. This means you can trim your clip.
    4. Drag your pointer toward the center of the clip and notice that the duration of your clip shortens as you move further to the left. You can see the new ending point in the clip viewer.
    5. Stop dragging when you find exactly the frame you want to end your clip. Notice the right edge of your clip now displays a straight edge rather than rounded corners indicating an edit has been made.
    6. If you change your mind and want to restore the clip to a longer duration, simply drag the edge to the right.
    7. Repeat this process with the other end of the clip.
    8. Save your iMovie project.
    I don't see why in the world this wouldn't work just as well for a sound-only clip as a picture-and-sound clip. The only way I see of getting the out-of-sequence ones I want in the order I want is to either duplicate the clip and then shorten both clips, or delete the existing clip and recapture it as two clips--then shorten each to the length I want and somehow run them together in sequence. (Copying it into two clips would be faster and easier for me, but is it possible and does it make a difference?)
    What I don't know is how to make it understand to put the three clips (these two shortened ones and the third I want to follow it) into ONE sound sequence, and then make it understand to run THAT sequence with the closing titles! How do I get each sound clip together with each other, then make it run together with each title clip I want? This has me at a loss. It would REALLY help if I could do this like TODAY! I will be DEEPLY GREATFUL to whoever can offer a CLUE!

  • Why doesn't Firefox run an adobe flash player slide show (no arrows to move to next/previous slide), but internet explore does?

I don't see where I can check my Firefox version. It is the current version as is Flash Player.

  • Mac powerpoint 2011. Can't  I edit sound effects

    Mac powerpoint 2011. Can't  I edit sound effects?  The slides won't move as I have ordered them because the sound effect lasts longer.  Previously (in Office) I have been able to trim the size.  This throws off the entire presentation.  Any ideas?

    If you're still looking for the iLife Sound Effects, they've been moved. In fact, they're downright impossible to find unless you know where they've been hidden.
    They're now stored inside the iMovie app itself. To access the files, go to the Applications folder and right-click on the iMovie app icon. Select "Show Package Contents", twirl open "Resources" and scroll down. You should find sound files in three folders: iLife Sound Effects, iMovie Sound Effects, and iMovie Theme Music. I recommend that you NOT move any files out of these folders, but simply copy them to a new location.
    Hope this finds you well.
    Cheers!

  • 2 sounds in a flash movie

    hello, i have 2 sounds in a flash movie, music and narration.
    I have this script in frame 1 for narration sound:
    _root.my_sound = new Sound();
    _root.my_sound.attachSound("antedespacho");
    _root.my_sound.start();
    and i have a MC, in frame 1 of movie, and inside, in layer 1
    this script for the music:
    _root.fondo = new Sound();
    _root.fondo.attachSound("musica");
    _root.fondo.setVolume(0); -- every 5 frames i change the
    volume for make fade in ;)
    _root.fondo.start(0,99);
    I have 2 buttons in main timeline for start/stop narration,
    but when i stop the narration, the music stop. Where is the
    problem??
    This is the script of the button:
    on (release) {
    _root.donde = (_root.my_sound.position);
    _root.my_sound.stop();
    Thanks in advance.
    Sonia

    You must attach the sounds to separate movie clips. Then you
    can control them separately:
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("despacho_mc",
    this.getNextHighestDepth());
    my_sound = new Sound(despacho_mc);
    my_sound.attachSound("antedespacho");
    my_sound.start(0,1);
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("musica_mc",
    this.getNextHighestDepth());
    fondo = new Sound(musica_mc);
    fondo.attachSound("musica");
    fondo.setVolume(0);
    fondo.start(0,99);
    and here's a handy script to automate your sound fade-in:
    var tuneVol:Number = 0;
    musica_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
    if (tuneVol>=100) {
    tuneVol = 100;
    delete this.onEnterFrame;
    } else {
    tuneVol += 10;
    fondo.setVolume(tuneVol);

    Hi, While writing an email online using Firefox 3.6.3, I was using one of the "CTRL+left or right arrow" to move the cursor along the text. I must have pressed some other key because the display has become huge - and I can't scroll vertically or horizontally, which makes using the Mail pages of Hotmail impossible. I have since logged in using MSFT Explorer and it works fine. This problem occurs only on the Mail page of Hotmail Live not on the home page or others.
    Could you please let me know if this is a problem with Firefox, or if you have any advice on how to reset the appearance of Hotmail in Firefox?

  • Editing sound in CS3,,,?

    I tried a search here for 'sound' and it came up with no results! So I'm sorry if this has cropped up before.
    How do other folks edit sound in Premiere CS3?
    I've been editing mine in Pro Tools for ages, but sometimes after importing into Premiere I'd like to tweak a level, or simply line up an audio effect and I've found CS3 to be really clunky and my efforts are completely hit and miss. I'll swear it was easier in earlier versions.
    Have I missed something? The Adobe help file is rubbish. Is there an on-line tutorial somewhere? It really is about time I got to grips with this.
    (Is CS4 better..?)

    There are
    several tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how audio works in Premiere Pro.
    Cheers

  • Macbook Pro Retina screen black sound adjust working

    Hi,
    I already had this issue a few times. Sometimes my Macbook screen doesn't wake up after a display sleep.
    It looks like the system is online because I hear the sound when adjusting the volume.
    When I press the brightness adjust nothing happens and the sound adjusting isn't working anymore.
    Normally I hard reset my MacBook but the last time I wasn't sure if it was my battery was running out so I reconnected it to the power source and waited a few minutes somehow the display woke up again after pressing some random buttons. My battery was a 80% so that wasn't the issue.
    I saw a few post after about a blackscreen when logging in but not on wake-up.
    Should I contact apple for a replacement?
    Cheers!
    Note: Installed all available updates

  • My video is crap but I love the sound. Can I save the sound track of a movie as an mp3?

    My video is crap but I love the sound. How Can I save the sound track of a movie as an mp3?

    Yes, you can do this.
    In iMovie, use SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME...
    In the dialog box, choose "Sound to AIFF".
    This will create a sound only version of your movie in the AIFF codec.
    You can drag this AIFF file into iTunes and convert it to AAC or MP3.
    In iTunes, go to iTunes/Preferences. In the General Tab, click the Import Settings button. Remember how it is currently set, (because you may want to change it back.) Choose IMPORT USING: MP3 Encoder.
    Now, right-click on the music track in iTunes and select "Create MP3 Version".
