Educational licensing question

Hello there,
I'm currently teaching at a university, and I have the opportunity to buy some software with educational discounts. I'm located in Canada.
I'n interested in purchasing the elearning suite. My question is: can this license be used in the future for commercial work?
I'm confused because according to the following document, this is allowed for a student-teacher edition

But I'm unclear whether the e-learning suite with educational discount is a student-teacher edition

Note, only some software packages are marked as student-teacher. What's the difference between student-teacher edition and educational discount?

no I don't think there is, however the Elearning suite is just a specfic set of applications gear toward making and creating content for online learning systems. it goes for $1,799.
I think it's meant more for the school to buy the software to use for their learning system rather than a staff member or student to buy.

Educational License Questions

Okay, I know yet another post about the Education license is going to try some people's patience, but I keep encountering contradictory statements on forums and even from Adobe customer service. Plus, Adobe doesn't seem to have a web page where this is all spelled out in simple language. If they do, a link would be greatly appreciated.
These questions pertain to a U.S. resident (since I think the rules are different outside North America). I am not talking about the (cheaper) Student license as that does not allow commercial use. So here goes:
1. I assume that while you are still a student you can upgrade under the Education license. Are those upgrades less expensive than the corresponding commercial upgrade prices?
2. What are your upgrade options after you graduate? Can you upgrade to the new commercial version at the regular commercial upgrade price or do you have to buy the commercial version outright?
3. Related to the last question, what happens if you graduate still holding the Educational license and haven't upgraded - can you still use PS for commercial purposes after graduation under the Educational license?
4. What restrictions would there be on other members of the family that use the same computer as the license holder?

You can upgrade the student version as well as the educational version. the upgrade prices are the same, there is no Educational upgrade. If you are a student or educator buying a new version will be the same cost as an upgrade or cheaper.

You upgrade just like anyone else.

Student and Educational Licenses both allow commercial use. the difference is Students are only allowed one activation.
4. What restrictions would there be on other members of the family that use the same computer as the license holder?
Educational license allows two activations. Desktop, Laptop. this does not mean it can be shared by siblings (Bobby get one computer Billy gets another) and you can only use one activation at a time just like the regular version. You can however let your wife or childuse the computer if you are not using it.

Lightroom licensing question

Hi,
I just purchased Lightroom online and received it today. It was through a company based in Sydney Australia, but I think it was shipped from the US. Its supposed to be the Full Version for Windows and Mac. I just have a couple of questions about it:
1. The Serial Number says "LIGHTROOM ED" above the number. Does this mean its an Education version?
2. It came in a single DVD case (just the DVD, no booklet, etc). Should it have come in a box with a booklet? (e.g. like my Adobe CS3 did)

You may want to report them to Adobe....Adobe used to reward customers who shopped dodgy dealers in the old days, but most likely couldn't care less these days. It seems the educational licenses are so widely abused by re sellers and consumers that they will become as pointless as Microsoft Office "Student" deals, which are in reality used by just about anybody who isn't a company. My own personal view, as a self employed photographer for whom software is part of my cost base, is that the educational licenses should be abolished for individuals, they should only be available for educational organisations and the over all pricing brought down. As a sometime teacher of photography, most of the genuine students seem to use cracked copies of software and their parents, relatives and friend get the eduction licenses!!! A good chunk of the students are better off financially than many professionals so why they should get cheap software when the university has copies for them to learn with is beyond me.

Hi,
I was a final cut pro user but due to the new 'pro' 10 x version I am basically forced to change software,
So it's now between adobe and avid.
But I have a few questions I cannot get answered with regards to adobe, because they really do not have a customer service or anything do they...
So my questions:
- Am I allowed to use my educational license also for commercial projects?
- Am I allowed to keep using my educational license even when I graduate?

Do educational licenses expire?

We have been using CS3 Photoshop, Acrobat and Illustrator for Mac for several years and now we get an error message that says the license has quit working. Do educational licenses expire?
OTOH, the error message also suggests uninstalling and reinstalling. Maybe it is not expired.
An Adobe readme says to deactivate before uninstalling. Since I can't open should I just go ahead and uninstall?

Transfer Aperture 1.5 Education License

I purchased Aperture 1.5 in the first week of January for $150 with my first iMac purchase. I could not upgrade to Aperture 2 because it is an educational license. I want to transfer my Aperture 1.5 EDU license to either an educational institution or sell it at a reduced price to an individual. With Adobe, there is a form available to fill out to officially transfer the software license so that another individual or institution can register that software legally (it was PhotoShop CS that I re-sold).
Does Apple have a license transfer program like Adobe?

Are you sure it is an educational edition that came with your iMac? I purchased a macbook pro in october and added aperture as pre-installed software at purchase time on the web site (This was an institutional educational purchase), and the media/license that came with my machine says 'APERTURE 1.5.1 RETAIL'
If you added this to your cart as a separate line item, you probably bought an educational copy, but if it was a preinstall on the machine, you may have the retail. (I don't know if aperture is available pre-installed on an iMac, this may only be an option on the pro stuff...Just checked, you can get logic/final cut express and iwork pre-installed on both, but not aperture (anymore))
Also, I have not yet tried to upgrade my license, but the media says retail, so I shouldn't have a hassle....

How to get rid of the old information and solve the problem?

Will a CS4 upgrade work with educational license version of CS3?

I would like to upgrade to CS4 but my version of CS3 is an educational license. I don't want to pay for an upgrade if it will not work with an educational license. Will I run into problems?

I just installed it and ran it fine. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Make sure it is a clean install from a fresh "boot". I ran into problems the first time when I tried to install it right after I installed another program. I simply uninstalled it.....which took a long long time, but after it was removed and I rebooted, everything went fine.

Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi. I have a few questions.
Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License. I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:

I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform. This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):

Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository? And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused. I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization. We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

Can I transfer my educational license of PS CS4 to another computer?

I was provided with an educational license of PS CS4 some time ago, which I installed in my old computer running Mac OSX 10.6. Now I am changing of computer, running Mac OSX 10.8. I tried to install my license in my new computer, without having deactivated it in my old computer, but I had to cancell the installation because it required Adobe Air. When I entered the user license in the set-up installer, everything went ok. After having installed Adobe Air, I tried to install the license in my new computer, but I had not the choice of installing PS CS4. Then, I deactivated my license from my first computer and I tried again, but no option, neither to install nor to deinstall is available at the set-up installer.
I am wondering if this problem is a consequence of not having deactivated my license from my first computer or of the impossibility to transfer an educational license between computers. If the former, what can I do to solve it? If the latter, will I have any problem if I buy a new license and try to install it in my new computer, as a consequence of having tried to install unsuccessfully another license previously?

Finally, I have been able to deinstall the remaining components because I have seen the Adobe deinstaller in Utilities. Once I have deinstalled, I have tried to reinstall the software again. The CD asked for the license number, everything went ok, but the issue came in the middle of the installation when I got the following message:
Doest his mean that CS4 is not compatible with Mountain Lion?

Instant Client SQL*Plus License Question

Can anyone shed some light on a license question for me? (I know that most license questions are for Oracle Sales to handle, but this involves a supposedly free product.)
I want to use SQL*Plus with the Instant Client in a production environment, but I am not sure whether I am entitled to. Does Instant Client "support" SQL*Plus only in the sense that if I already own a license for SQL*Plus I can use it with the Instant Client, or is the Instant Client SQL*Plus package also truly free to deploy and use?
The download page has links to download a basic Instant Client, plus several optional packages, one of which is SQL*Plus. However, the FAQ does not tell me whether the optional packages (specifically SQL*Plus) is also free to deploy and use in a production environment, and I could not find any other helpful document.
The FAQ says that "Instant Client is FREE for anyone to use in a development or production environment." It also says immediately following that "Instant Client can be used to run your OCI, OCCI, Pro*C, JDBC, and ODBC applications without installing a full Oracle Client. In addition, Instant Client supports SQL*Plus." [emphasis mine]
I would appreciate any help on this.

Flash Builder 4 Educational Licensing, applied, no word from Adobe

Over a week ago I sent in an application via the below listed website for educational licenses for Flash Builder 4. I never recieved any notification of receipt of the request and I have not heard from anyone at Adobe about this. Called Customer Service and they had NO idea what I was talking about.
