Effect of revenue planning on project cost.

Hi Expersts,
I am creating a sales order and attaching it to WBS element. I have entered amount for which i want to bill to customer as per price conditions for a item in sales order. Now this value of sales order is captured as a revenue in WBS element (When i run CNS41).
Now when i am creating a billing document and the accounting document, the actual revenue is also getting reflected against the WBS element (In CNS41).
This way i am planning to bill to customer.
Questions are
1. In my case this is the one time billing to customer and hence i am not using the milestone billing. Then is this a correct method?
2. At present i dont see any effect of revenue on cost of project. Can anybody guide me on is there any effect of this revenue on planned and actual cost of the project during the project closure stage?
Thanks

1 ok
2 no effect of rev on planned and actual cost - cost and rev are two different things for cns41

  • How to derive/generate Revenue only wth Project costing?Burdening possible?

    Hello Experts / Dina,
I am doing a implementation to customer where only Project costing is in scope and customer wanted to derive / generate revenue for few of the revenue generated project using oracle project costing. Currently this customer is using legacy external application to enter manual journal for revenue.
So can you please provide me workaround to achieve only revenue generation using oracle project costing?
I have one workaround but wanted to validate from you all experts. Plz help me...
    1. Enabling budening on same expenditure item I can generate revenue using burden schedule and setup total burden cost db and cost cr account in auto accounting so that burdent Cost Crd account will be a reveue account and burden Cost dbt account will be UBR a/c. and then transfer the burden cost to GL as revenue vs UBR.
This work around is thorotical and dont know what is implication of burden mulitpliers. If I used this workaorund then revenue (burden cost) amount is depend upon the expenditure orgnization multiplier and not on job based or employee based. How to solve this problem?
I think there is possibility to drive the burden multiplier based on expenditure types..if taken that approch then end up in creating lot of expenditure type for each multiplier.
So please help with workaround or someother method.
    Thanks

    Hi Dina,
First of all many many thanks for posting your answer on this question.
    1. > I tried using total burden schedule approch to generate revenue but I think there is problem to restrict the accounting for the expenditur items which should not be burden ( need not to be generate revenue). As Total burdening approch creates burden accounting as raw cost though burden mulitplier is not specified ( system takes as value 0) :(
2.> Then I tried a approch of using create & distribute burdening method ( burdening on separate expenditure item) - This works fine and generate burden accounting ( revenue a/c -& UBR). And provides a restriction of generating revenue on selected expenditure items based on burden schedule schedule (multiplier as 0 not specified). On Expenditre Inquiry also can reports a revenue after querying on Expenditure Type Class as "Burden Transactions". You can also reverse items and reverse costing / burdening ( reveneu ) with normal standard process.
3.> If I wanted to use borrowed and Lent processing then I guess it will be easy. But only problem is I can't keep Project Org as Resource Org. Then there is pain in defining lot of resource organization and project organization ( I m not sure customer will agree :() . Also after referring the Project API guide I am still confuse about 2 diff extention doing same thing.
a.> Transfer Price Determination Extension b.> Transfer Price Override Extension . Can you please explain what is difference between both of them and wat is purpose for both of them?
Also In case i don't used the extension then I will be left only using Transfer price % ( 100% + ) to derive my revenue price? rght? Also I am not sure how can customer will have restrictions on the expenditure items which should not generate revenue? ( By defining another transfer price schedule on the selected TASKS with rule as transfer price % 0? )
and I hope by using borrowed and lent processing I can do adjustments ( like reversing of revenue ) as standard way?
    Please guide.
    Thanks a ton !!!
    Cheers,

  • Migration of costs & revenues of open projects

    Dear All,
I am new to CO & migrating the costs & revenues of open projects from old SAP system to new SAP system.
For costs & revenues of open WBSs/Network activities, we have three programs:
    1. primary costs extraction & upload
    2. secondary costs extraction & upload
    3. revenue data extraction & upload
For primary costs, i am referring to table COSP and secondary costs COSS.
Incase of secondary costs, i am not sure what all the values i should consider
In COSS - i have cost center allocations - which need to be migrated through KB21N, with total qty & UOM
and also i have network activities settlements...do i need to consider this as well to get the value matching with WBS value in CJI3.
If yes, how do i migrate the network settlements? definetly not through KB21N.
Kindly clarify as i am not able proceed further on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Gangadhar

When you say migrating from old SAP system to new SAP system,  do you mean, you are in a upgrade project? If it is an upgrade project, you need worry to transfer data. The technical upgrade would address the need of data migration.
If it is entirely a new different system and you are planning total re-engineering, you may only want to post primary costs and redo the allocations and settlments.

  • Revenue Planning to cost elements

    Hi,
I am Working on Project system object.
When i am trying  planned revenue is added on the project, I need to find if there is a way to assign the revenue amount on the lowest WBS to a cost element. This is required for revenue amounts to appear in costing reports. CJ42 is used to add planned revenue manually.

    hi anuradha,
    Revenue Planning
    Use
Revenue planning can be necessary when you perform results analysis on a sales order item and use a results analysis method that uses the planned revenues to calculate the results analysis data.
    Features
The net value (revenue) for sales-order-related production is determined in pricing in Sales and Distribution (SD). Pricing depends on specific conditions which you maintain in Sales and Distribution.
A particular customer orders a particular quantity of a product on a particular day. The variable factors – customer, product, quantity ordered, date – determine the final price for the customer.
The system uses the conditions you specified to calculate the gross price at which the customer is invoiced; any discounts applying to the customer, for example; and other values such as freight charges and tax.
Pricing is controlled by a pricing procedure which is selected through the sales document type. Price elements such as prices, surcharges and discounts, freight costs and taxes are saved in Sales and Distribution as condition types. The pricing procedure determines which condition types are used and the sequence in which they are calculated in the sales order.
    Condition Types
The standard system contains the following condition types that can be used in connection with unit costing, product costing, and preliminary order costing in assembly processing:
    Condition Types for Pricing
    Condition Type
    Meaning
    EK01
    Cost of goods manufactured (CGM)
    EK02
    CGM (statistical)
    EK03
    Fixed CGM (statistical)
Condition type EK01 is mainly used for cost-plus contracts in which the sales price depends on the expected costs.
Condition type EK02 is mainly used when the sales price is a market price and the expected costs are only used for informational purposes.
Condition type EK03 offers the capability of transferring the fixed costs of a cost estimate into the conditions.
The costs are transferred from the cost component view Cost of goods sold into the condition type.
The above-mentioned condition types must be of category Q. Whether a condition type of category Q is only used in pricing as a statistical value or for price calculation is controlled in the pricing procedure.
The condition type is created in Customizing for Sales.
The condition type can be selected as follows:
    Through the sales document type
Condition types EK01 and EK02 are specified in the CndTypLineItems field in the sales document type.
    Through the requirements class
This enables you to define different condition types for different sales document items of a sales document.
Condition types EK01 or EK02 are specified in the CndTypLineItems field in the requirements class.
Condition type EK03 is specified in the CondTypLinItFix field. You can only use condition type EK03 in conjunction with the requirements class.
    Planned Revenues
Revenue elements from the SD pricing procedure that are not statistical are updated as planned revenue on the sales order item that carries costs and revenues, and can be viewed in the Product Cost Controlling Information System. Sales deductions can also be assigned to revenue elements through account determination, and updated on the CO object for the sales order item.
The condition type is selected through the sales document type.
Condition type EK01 is selected for sales document type TA (standard order). This means that the value from the cost estimate goes directly into pricing. A surcharge is calculated from this value and the net value for the sales order item is calculated.
Condition type EK02 is selected for sales document type TA (standard order). Pricing is carried out on the basis of condition type PR00. To maintain this price, choose Logistics ® Sales/distribution ® Sales ® Master data ® Prices ® Material prices and enter a material price. The material price is updated under condition type PR00, while the values from the cost estimate are updated under condition type EK02 and can be used for informational purposes.
Actual Revenue in Product Cost by Sales Order
    Use
In Product Cost by Sales Order, actual revenues are updated to the sales order item that carries costs and revenues at the time of invoicing.
    Integration
You can view the actual revenues in comparison with the planned revenues and costs in the Product Cost Controlling Information System at any time.
You can settle the costs and revenues that are updated to the sales order item to a profitability segment in Profitability Analysis (CO-PA) during period-end closing for Product Cost by Sales Order. When you perform results analysis, the results analysis data are settled to CO-PA.
The processing in Product Cost by Sales Order therefore differs from the processing in Product Cost by Order or Product Cost by Period (make-to-stock production and with a valuated sales order stock without a sales order item that carries costs and revenues).
If you perform this type of product cost controlling (such as in addition to Product Cost by Sales Order), then in Product Cost by Order or Product Cost by Period the revenues from invoicing are transferred to CO-PA.
If you are using the cost-of-sales accounting in Financial Accounting (FI) and are using a valuated sales order stock, you do not need to perform results analysis in order to transfer the cost of sales to FI. The cost of sales is transferred to Financial Accounting at the point of the goods issue posting.
    Prerequisites
To ensure that the revenues are displayed on the sales order item, you must create revenue accounts and possibly sales deduction accounts as primary cost elements of cost element type 11 (revenues) or 12 (sales deductions). Make the necessary settings in Customizing under Controlling ® Overhead Cost Controlling ® Cost and Revenue Element Accounting ® Master data ® Cost Elements.
To be able to settle the costs to Profitability Analysis, you must make the necessary settings in Customizing for Profitability Analysis. Make the necessary settings in Customizing under Controlling ® Profitability Analysis.
    Features
    Billing
Billing invoices the customer for the goods and services delivered for a sales order.
In Sales and Distribution, you create an invoice (billing document) on the basis of a reference document. In order-related billing, the reference document is the standard order or the delivery document with delivery-related billing.
The data such as prices and quantities are transferred from the previous documents into the billing documents. The price can be calculated in the following ways:
Using pricing on the basis of conditions (such as material or customer)
On the basis of the incurred costs if you want to use resource-related billing
When you enter a billing document, the system proposes a billing type depending on the reference document.
The billing type determines the following:
Which pricing procedure is used for account determination for Financial Accounting
Whether the invoices are passed immediately to Financial Accounting
Account assignment is controlled by the following parameters:
    The chart of accounts
    The sales organization
The account assignment group of the customer (in the Account group field in the Invoicing screen of the customer master record)
The account assignment group of the material (in the Account assignment group field in the Sales 2 view of the material master record)
The account key in the pricing procedure
    thanks

  • Unable to update revenue plan values in Easy Cost Planning

    Hi,
Business maintains planned costs and revenues on WBS element using Easy Cost Planning tool. But for one of the WBS element system is not allowing to update/add planned revenue line items.User is able to update the planned costs for this WBS element.
The Legend in Easy Cost Planning screen is Non-Changeable Cost Estimate.
The status of WBS is REL,ACPT(Order Accepted),NSCH(Not Scheduled - Forecast Dates),RESA(Result Analysis Carried out).
We have checked all the business process and all the revenue planning is allowed.
Please guide us on how to resolve this issue.

This is resolved...Select the WBS and click on CLOSE icon to reset the cost estimate. This allows to plan revenues again.

  • Settlement of Project Cost and revenue to GL

I am trying to Settle the project Cost and Revenue to GL account. For the same I have defined settlement profile maintaining GL as optional receiver and then I have maintained Source structure for cost and revenue as to separate them at the time of defining settlement rule, defined Allocation structure where in receiver against source, I have assigned GL as by cost element receiver. After that I have maintained settlement rule for WBS element, but when I am running a settlement is done to either of the GL for cost or Revenue which ever is defined first in settlement rule. It is not creating any settlement for second line item of the settlement rule and system is not giving any error message as well.
Where as if I am trying individually only for cost or revenue , settlement is completed with all the values but with any accounting document generated, but if I see the entries to that GL, a settlement entry is created for that transaction.
Can anyone please help in solving this issue ASAP.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
If it is posting to the first line means....
    Follow the steps below:
First try to create a project and post the actuals and revenues.
Go to cost element report pick up those cost elements both for costs and revenues.
Go to Soruce Structure in the config, define the structure with name for Ex: 'Z1' and define two assignments, one is Costs and other Revenue, by selecting the costs go to Source mention the cost element where the actual costs are posted on (Mention only that cost element no other cost elements), next select the Revenue assignment and click on Source and mention the only cost element where the revenue wsa posted (Mention only that revenue cost element no other cost elements) and save the transaction.
Come back to project builder, select the wbs and click on settlement rule, in the menu goto-->settlement parameters and check whether the source and settlement profiles are correct or not, incase source structure is not available mention the same.
come back to settlement Rule overview and fill the fields as mentioned below:
    1st line:   Category: GL
                  GL Account: GL Account Number
                  Source Structure: COSTS
    2nd Line: Category: GL
GL Account: GL Account Number (Revenue Account)
                  Source Structure: REVENUE.
Now Run the Settlement for the specific period costs posted, the costs will be posted seperately to the two different GL Accounts.
I think this will resolve your problem.

  • Easy cost planning in Project & sales pricing

    Dear All
When i was trying to create easy cost planning from project, I am uable to get the costing variant. I have done basic settings. But the same is not working properly
Kindly advise me how do i do this?
I need to create easy cost planning from project and from project i need to create salespricing through DP91. I have assigned DIP profile in project profile.
    Please advise
    Regards
    Deepu Pillai

    Hi,
Yes, that is the key that determines how a cost estimate is performed and valuated.
Depending on the object being costed, either the functions of either unit costing or product costing can be used.To calculate the costs of producing a material, you create a product cost estimate with or without a quantity structure
In a cost estimate with a quantity structure, the costing variant determines the following:
    1. Which dates are valid for the cost estimate itself and for exploding and valuating the quantity
        structure.
    2. How the BOMs and routings are selected to create the quantity structure
    3. Which prices are selected to valuate the quantity structure
    4. How overhead is calculated
You create a unit cost estimate to cost the following objects:
1.Materials (cost estimate without quantity structure)
    2.Materials (additive cost estimate)
    3.Production orders in Controlling
    4.Internal orders
    5.WBS elements
    6.Base planning objects
    7.Cost object IDs
    8.Sales documents
In unit costing, the costing variant determines which prices are selected to valuate the individual costing items and how overhead is calculated.
Costing variants are also used to calculate costs for Production orders,Networks,Maintenance orders,
Run schedule headers,Process orders,Sales document items,Appropriation requests,Ad hoc cost estimates.
A costing variant is linked to the control parameters like Costing type,Valuation variant,
Date control (in costing with and without quantity structure).
    For config of Costing Variant,
Go to SPRO- Project system-Costs-Planned Costs-Costing-Define Costing Variants
    Hope this helps.

  • Project Revenue Plan Not Update from Sales Order Item

I am generating a network and project from the sales order item using Assembly processing. I am using milestone billing on the sales order item and the milestones attached to the project network activities are appearing as billing blocks on the sales order item billing plan. However, the project revenue is not getting updated from the sales order billing plan. Can someone please help?
I have deleted the billing plan on the billing WBS element and activated revenue planning update from sales order in cusomization for PS. I am looking at CNS41 under the project revenue sched in version 0. Is there a different report I should be looking at?
    Regards,
    Venkat.

    HI Venkat,
You are looking at the correct report & I believe you have also done the necessary customization. If you create a sales order and reference it to a quotation, the related plan values in the WBS element are refreshed automatically.
When the payment data is recorded, the terms of payment and the customer payment history are taken into consideration. One of the probable causes could be the credit limit of the customer might have been exceeded. Take help of your SD consultant & increase the credit limit for that customer (from the sales document), t-code FD32 if it is permitted in the business.
After the new credit limit is set execute the following steps:
u2022     Go to the t-code Change billing request (VA02)
u2022     Open the required billing request
u2022     Remove the account assignment of WBS element from each line item
    u2022     Save the billing request
u2022     Reopen the billing request in change mode
u2022     Reassign the WBS elements to all line items
u2022     Now the changed credit limit will take affect
u2022     Check the Planned Revenue for the said project in CNS41, it should get updated.

  • Revenue Recognition in Project System

    Hello All,
At my current client, they are using the Project System (i.e. WBS) only for Cost and Revenue collection. POC,RA,Milestone billing,Network, Activities are out of scope. Keeping the above thing in mind, I need to know how I do the Revenue recognition thru WBS.
Mu understanding is that If I assign a WBS element on a Sales Order line item, as an account assignment it should collect the Revenue. The only requiremnt should be that WBS should be a billing element and Cost/Revenue profile should carry SD relevant settings. Once the billing is done and invoicing is done, the Revenue should appear against the WBS on running the report S_ALR_87013563/64/65/66.
Please let me know if this will work or do I need to do some more configuration from PS perspective.
    Thanks
    Sarang

    Hi Sarang,
    1. Mark WBS as billing element.
    2. Assign the sales order line item to the WBS in point 1 or any WBS below that in the hierarchy.
    3. Create a billing plan for the sales order line item.
    4. The billing plan amount would appear as planned revenue against the WBS element (provided no credit hold useVKM3 to release).
    5. Once the line item has been billed ie. Billing document has been created using VF01 or VF04, the Actual revenue would appear against the WBS element.
    In terms of Config:
Creat a planning profile that allows Automatic Revenue planning form Sales Order (tcode: OPSB)
Ensure that the planning profile is attached to your project profile (Controlling tab) (tcode:OPSA).
Please let me know if this helps.

  • Planned vs Actual Cost Report (with variance) for PM Orders

    Hi Experts,
We are using the project system to collate order costs for annual shut work.  We have a requirement for a report to show 25% variance between planned and actual order costs (maintneance order).
At this stage, we dont mind whether this is implemented in the the PM system, or the PS system.
This is a fairly basic / common requirment.  Are there any standard transactions we could use to:
    1.  Select a list of orders using standard selection criteria.
    2.  Select a % for variance, e.g. 25%
    3.  Display a list of orders where the planned vs actual costs were greater than 25% and what the actual variance is for each order?
    Thanks,
    Maikel

    Hi Maikel,
I have never seen any such scenario, but the best thing that can come to me is for the shut down activities you muct have created a Revision, then based on that Revision you can take a dump of all the orders with Planned and Actual Cost, in the excel, and there by putting the formulae you can definitely have the Varience report.
    Hope it helps you.

  • Planning on secondary cost element_cost category 21(internal settlement)

    Good Day
I would like to know whether it is possible to do planning on secondary cost element with a cost category 21
The internal cost element is used to settle order costs or project costs to objects in Controlling (CO), such as orders, profitability segments, cost centers, and projects.  I would like to allocate a plan value to the secondary cost element because the cost element is found in a sttlement profile for a Plant Maintenenance(PM) work order and at the period end the actuals is moved from PM order to the internal order settlement cost element.  However this is a problem cause the planning values is allocated to the primary cost element and the actual values are posted to the cost element with cost catergory 21 during order settlement.
Please advise and if possible give me a workable solution to solve my problem.

  • How do you plan your project?

I'm thinking of recommending Captivate 3 to a client who does
live training sessions for hospital workers, and has had no online
    options until now.
I have a basic understanding of how the program works, but
how do you begin brainstorming and planning your project? Once you
determine the audience's needs and your goals, do you draw a
schematic diagram on paper, actually develop the content and
    interactions within the program, or....?

The view (and actions) taken by Phillip's firm are more and
more the "standard" or "best practice" of professional Captivate
developers. Small "bite sized" learning pieces make the act of
checking a specific task quick and easy for the end-student-user.
As an instructor, I put a lot of emphasis on storyboarding.
Paper and pencil works best for me as the first step, but "Word" is
then used as the next step in creating a script prior to starting
    to record in Captivate.
In summary, creating short, precise Captivate projects
from a storyboard and written script is the best way to
build effective eLearning objects, as well as the most effective
method for quick and easy (easier) editing for the developer
(especially when changes are needed "post-production") - it is just
    best for everyone.
