Effects plug-ins, and user preset weirdness
Here's a headache for you.
I've noticed that when using VST/DX effects in Audition that it adds its very own load/save preset bar to whatever effects application is in use, and that when saving presets with this quick access bar that it doesn't appear to save the presets anywhere within said efx plug-in's program directory.
The end result is that user created presets saved in this way won't show up using said plug-ins in any other audio editing program.
Audition manages to associate the proper user presets with their respective plug-ins, which leads me to believe it's saving the information in specific files/directories pertaining to each plugin.
I've rooted around a bit in Audition's program directories and so far have come up with no helpful leads.
This leads me to my question: where the hell Audition is saving these presets on the hard drive?
Tell me, have you noticed AA not saving your VST/DX plugin settings from session to session? That is, it resets itself to a "default" setting when you exit the session and when you return to the session your effect settings are no longer in the state you left them, but in a "default" state.
(This doesn't occur in any Pro Tools or Acid Pro, both of which "remember" the state in which I left them...)
Your observation of AA adding its own preset bar is interesting. Pro Tools and Acid don't do that. I wonder if that has anything to do with the issue I described...?

THIRD PARTY PLUG INS AND TRANSITION PRESETS!
hello there,
i'm looking to purchase some sort of thrid party plug in that contains mainly if not only transitions and transition presets. i'm looking specifically for the final cut equivalent of the swish pan which is a popular avid transition. does anyone have any links to purchase something like this?
many many thanks in advance! There was an editor in NYC back in the film days-- whenever dailies came in, he'd screen, pull out all the swish pans, camera start/stop flashes etc-- BEFORE the client showed up. Assistant pulled the corresponding negative in a back room.
Whenever a spot was needing something special, he'd dig into a box or two of "special effects" often selling a client a chunk of their own dailies.
That amused me no end. Still does. -
Effects Plug ins and Sample Image expression
Hello guys,
I have a small problem with the sample Image expression and effects affinity.
I build an effect similar to the autolevels effect. It scales up the gray levels of a picture. Really simple effect.
Then I try to get the color at some point of my layer.
So i add a Point effect, a color effect from expression control.
Then I put an expression to update my color parameter :
sampleImage(effect(Point));
this does work sometimes and not other times. I move the point and the value becomes incorrect... emptying the cache sometimes clear the problem but not all the time.
I have some random values sometimes too.
If I precomp my layer, then no problem, I get the right result.
It seems there is a synchonization problem between my effect and the expression evaluation. It seems to be evaluated before my effect computation is finished. Maybe i m not sending the right out flags or something like this?
I tried with the standard autolevels and the color is correctly updated....
If someone has any ideas that could help me.
thank you for your help in advance.Dear Shachar,
Sorry again for mispelling your name so many times.
I m back to the question of sample image.
In prerender, i do like in the samples (Shifter, SDK Noise). I
realized that the behavior of the samples in the sdk is also
erroneous.
The color returned by sampleImage is randomly the color
before the effect application, and sometimes after the effect application.
It seems that SmartyPants sample is doing it correctly, so i have to check it out.

When the render is started by the expression, i get a first pre render:
in_result.result_rect: a ten pixel square centered at the sample point
in_result.max_result_rect: the full composition
and a second one with the full composition in both.

My Nik Efex filters are not working in Photoshop CC 2014 - they appear under plug-ins and seem to work, but after running and clicking okay, no new layer appears - seems to have no effect. The separate menu panel does not appear either. Help with this?
BINGO !!!!
Thanks so much Woodsroad. I had the exact same problem with my Dell Windows 7 64 bit with AMD Radeon 6700 Video card.
All the video tests passed with flying colors.
The sniffer rename trick fixed the problem.
Thank goodness for the internet! -
I was recording a song, finished it and everything went alright. Then I wanted to start with the recording of a new song. With the SAME plug-ins and settings as in the song before. I could record it all, but then, logic started crashing! Now, Logic crashes everytime I open up the new song as soon as I press play. But when I open up the older song, everything works just fine. I can press play without any problems, do things here and there... typical Logic stuff. So, it has to do with my new project! But why? I mean, I'm using everything the same way in both projects. Literally everything!
Now, here's one of my crash reports... please help. Please. Thanks in advance!

Why Adobe does not say that some plug-ins and filters on a 64-bit Apple computers do not work?
I called assistance, and the only proposal that I have done was to make new installations, or create a new user.
Then I found this article on the web!
..."Unfortunately, to accommodate the new programming code that allows for 64-bit processing, some plug-ins and filters—the built-in
Variations and Lighting Effects, for example—only work in 32-bit mode, and that surely will disappoint some users. Moreover, most t
hird-party plug-ins too will work only in 32-bit mode, until they are updated. Thankfully, it’s easy (though not especially convenie
nt) to switch between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program; just select the application icon, choose File->Get Info, turn o
n the 32-bit option, and relaunch Photoshop."
It is not a system so simple for a person working with photoshop files very large (Over 6/7 GB). You lose several minutes of time.
The tests carried out then the difference in performance from 64 to 32 Bit is 40-50% faster in 64 bit mode. This is also why the 64-bit version you can assign more memory.
Someone from Adobe can answer?
Then, to conclude.
But the icons of some new palette of photoshop could not make it more beautiful and not ugly and unpleasant?
MarioYou not hearing it doesn’t mean Adobe didn’t say it.

Hi Guys,
Ok, what I am about to ask is something I guess is a very "Personal-preference" type question, but here we go anyway..( if nothing else, it might give you something to read! :-)..)
I have mentioned on a few posts that the project I am busy with, is for the creation of a new television series. We are a very small company, and have started out from scratch- the best place to start from I think.. Anyway, the question that I have, is around After Effects plug-ins.
I would like to invest some money in plug-ins but would like to get a feel from the forum first, as to what, where, when and why.
After all the many millions of tutorials and books I have seen, "Red Giant" is a name that crops up all the time. I am looking on their site, and am getting rather overwhelmed with the amount of plugins they offer.
I am going to "pre-guess" that someone will answer this question by stating that it all depends what I want to do at the end of the day, so I will jump the gun on that one and state that I will definately be looking into the "Keying Suite" on offer, as a lot of my work - actually, the biggest part - will be compositing from green and blue screen footage.
The other packages caught my eye, because I just want to own the world (I cannot play any computer game without completing it 100% - getting all the collectable's and extras - so that part of my personality is now bleeding into work!) - and as a result, I am looking at the "Effects Suite" and "Trapcode Suite"
So, to end this rather long "Question", can anyone advise me, from their experience, are the extra products worth while, or can After Effects pull a pretty believable similar effect by itself?
Thanks for your time,
PierreIf you do keying a lot, you could need help. Not sure whether I would actually consider the complementary tools that much, as it is easy enough to build a light wrap from scratch and the Refine Matte effect ever since CS5 is pretty sophisticated as well as there are of course all the otehr channel, matte and blur tools, but Primatte is useful and may help to create a key where Keylight fails. On that note, you might also consider RevisionFX' Re:Fill to mend holes and smooth keying edges the smart way as well as RSMB Pro to remove motion blur and reintroduce it later. And the adaptive blurs in SmoothKit are also handy. The other Red Giant suites are probably not essential to you. Trapcode is motion graphics centric, anyway, and unless you neet all those particle and lighting effects, you won't get much else out of it. Similarly, the FX suite is not essential IMO. Half of that can be built from scratch or with some presets from the web, it may just be a bit more clunky and slower. if you realyl must send more money to RG and do not want to buy more RevisionFX tools like DeNoise or Twixtor, the Magic Bulelt tools would be better plus you get their color correction tools as well.

Plug-ins and extensions?
Where might a Windows user download plug-ins and/or extensions (beyond the major commercial ones, Shockwave/Quicktime, et cal.) to enhance the functionality and customize Safari for Windows?
Thanks you for your comments. I would mention that this problem just started with the update to FF 37.0.4 I tried restarting FF in safe mode with no effect on the above mentioned problem. Any other thoughts?

Firefox continues to have"Not Responding" issues. Updated all plug-ins and disabled most of them but issue still occurs, OFTEN.
Thank you for your reply,
I know that plugins aren't being outright disabled and that people need to be encouraged to keep up to date, it's just that there's a lopsided amount of focus on them as a security vector from Mozilla.
I must point out however, that javascript security at the moment seems to consist of an on-off switch on almost every browser in existence: there is no obvious way to set "I don't want that site to know where my mouse is for my privacy", "I don't want that site to dynamically load content because it slows my browser" or the sort.
While there is CAPS ( http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/components/ConfigPolicy.html ) it is not configurable from within the browser (and its existence at all is obfuscated) and considering a lot of javascript is obfuscated to discourage run-time modification (say using web development toolbars) or discourage CAPS usage, there's little way to know what exactly to use CAPS on without reverse engineering. The average user would not be able to do this.
Javascript security needs to be more, much more than an on/off switch. -
I've pointed to my After Effects plug-ins in the Motion preferences, but they don't show up in the filters menu. I've restarted several times, pointed to specific plug-in folders, pointed to AE 6.5 plug-ins and 7.0 plug-ins, Motion doesn't see them.
I think it should. I'm running Motion 2.1.2 on a G5 with 2.5 GB ram.
Anyone have a solution?Once again, for anyone else who might stumble upon this question, third-party filters DO NOT show up in the Add Filters area of the Canvas. They show up ONLY in the library. This fact may be of interest, and is not specified on p 793.

CS4 plug-ins, 3rd party plug-ins and filter problems
1- What happened to all the filters available in CS3? They were a good thing. Why does Adobe kill off what's already working well and looking good? For instance, where's the Distort>Diffuse???
2- Same thing with PS plug-ins and third party plug-ins. They're all gone, now that I've "upgraded." (A term I use with disgust.) I paid too much money for all the aggravation I've been experiencing with these three issues.
But I digress: I dragged plug-ins to the folder, but they still don't show up.
Thank you.......
iMac 23" 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo 3 GB RAM OS 10.5.5 ACR5.2
PS: Why does Adobe take away what finally works smoothly? Why offer a feature, and then take it back 18 months later with the next version? I'll sleep better at night if I can just understand how it helps the users to have the useful deleted.First of all, make sure you have not moved the application icon or the application folder from the default install location, and that you have not created subfolders there in a misguided attempt to "organize" things.
Secondly, please tell us what you upgraded from. If you had been running some 3rd party plugins that are not written for Universal Binary, they may not run in a newer OS or a newer machine.
Third, please see the documentation or Adobe Photoshop's Principal Program Manager John Nack's blog for the stuff that
was taken out in CS4:
http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/10/where_did_extra.html
Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow is right there where it's always been. If you don't see it, you're either in 16 bits or have a bad install. -
Manual update for plug ins and extensions not working
I've just noticed that when I attempt to manually check for updates either in plug ins and/or extensions from the gear symbol drop down screen that I get the drop down screen, but, the check for updates function does not work. It just sits there with nothing happening. I have to close the screen to get out of that function. Anybody know anything about this?
Thanks you for your comments. I would mention that this problem just started with the update to FF 37.0.4 I tried restarting FF in safe mode with no effect on the above mentioned problem. Any other thoughts?

Plug-ins and components????? What does it mean?
Hi All,
Over the last few weeks I have been trying to download and burn movies, so I have downloaded loads and loads of codecs and plug-ins and all sorts trying to fix little problems. My question is what should I have just to play different types of movies and for burning dvds. I downloaded a new Quicktime so do I have all I need now or what do I require. Also I can never seem to download Windows Media Player, when it downloads and goes onto the desktop, I open it and an e-mail opens? What is that all about? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank youSome history of QuickTime:
Not long ago we all connected to the Internet using phone lines and software was much smaller in file size. QuickTime still uses a "component" download option even though it is now 100 times larger in file size than its ancestors.
When you come upon a QuickTime file via the Web the QuickTime browser plug-in "reads" the file to see if your machine has the required "parts". The plug-in redirects (automatically) to the component download page where a user can download can view a list of "suggested" components.
The browser plug-in isn't smart enough to point to the exact thing that is missing.
You don't want to willy-nilly download all of them. Some third party ones (not those offered by Apple) conflict with one another and cause further problems.
Two for us Mac users that help view most common formats are http://flip4mac.com (allows Windows Media Player formats to be viewed via QuickTime) and http://perian.org (for playing most AVI files).
You'll also need Real Player and Flash Player for those Web based formats. They are separate from QuickTime. -
Does anyone know if its possible to add extra efeects plug-ins to Premiere Elements 11?
As ATR points out, contacting the publisher of that set of plug-ins, to determine if they can be hosted by PrE, will get you the answer.
Some plug-ins can be hosted by many different programs, but a lot, can only be hosted by certain programs. For instance, though PrPro can host some After Effects plug-ins, many are After Effects ONLY.
While PrE and PrPro have some similarities, they are different programs. For instance a lot of BlackMagic Effects will work in PrPro, but not in PrE.
Good luck,

Plug-ins and Virtual Instruments
Can someone explain to me a little bit about plug-ins and virtual instruments. Namely ones that are compatible with logic express 8. I see the ads for them all the time but don't know much about them. What's good... What's bad... Can I use them in LE8. I was looking at SyntAX. How user friendly are they or should I stick with what I know... Namely Midi Instruments and Loops?
syntAX says it's compatible with Logic... Does that mean it's also compatible with LE8? I'd like to get some feedback before I shell out $199 for the plug-in.
Help!! Thanks!!Ok. Thanks! But can someone give me feedback on the usage of them? (Especially syntAX)
It states it's compatible with logic but doesn't actually state .AU ready. Will I need a wrapper of some sort to use this plug-in? The only plug-ins I really use in LE8 at this point are ESX24 and the FX. I have tons of apple loops but never really looked into using VIs in Logic. I tried using a few that come with LE8 (namely AMGs One) but it doesn't work properly as it can't find certain files.
Any one with advice on some good Logic compatible plugins?
