There is not much control over look in FC of imported .psd file. So please allow for update import some how.

I think if you poll users you will find Designers and Artists are most familiar and comfortable with Photoshop than Illustrator. That is one of the reasons I never upgraded or pushed to get the latest illustrator. Illustrator seems to not be as easy to use as Photoshop or AfterEffects. I am hoping that CS4 is identical to Photoshop for me to even consider to upgrading. I only use illustrator for the vector brush storkes it can do to paths, or to open a vector file and instantly copy and paste it as smart object into Photoshop.
I also do not understand why every element in Photoshop can't behave like in AfterEffects. In AfterEffects every value is re-editable and stackable. Thus no need to come up with new workflow of converting to smart object as everything is smart.
To me it seems like software development groups are siloed from each other at Adobe. I hope I am proved wrong and roundtriping become real for Photoshop as well as Illustrator.

Lightroom has no problem reading DNG files. Whether the edits you have done to the DNGs you have originally edited in Photoshop Elements 10 I'm not sure. ACR edits made to DNGs are saved in the DNG file itself, as apposed to a XMP sidecar file, so LR should see those edits. At the worst you will get an exclamation mark in the upper right hand corner of the imported DNGs and clicking on that exclamation mark you will get a dialog box asking you to either import settings from disk or overwrite settings. you would select import settings from disk.

Need detailed instructions on how to enable " Check for Updates" option on the Firefox installation directory for Windows XP.

I have Firefox 2.0 (running Windows XP) and want to update it to 3.6, but the "Check for updates" option on the Help menu is grayed out and need to enable this option by changing permissions on the Firefox installation directory. According to the Parrot Support site:
"The Parrot Software Update Tool is only available for Windows."
So you would need to install Windows on your iMac, first, in order to download the file. Your Mac's OS X cannot read Windows based files.

I'm trying to install a layer style (.asl) in photoshop cc 2014 and I get the error message 'Could not place the document 'filename.asl' because no parser or file format can open the file.' Any suggestions?

I get the same error when trying the same thing with the default styles, so it's not the file.

Which version of mac os x are you using?
Did you upgrade your mac os with photoshop cc 2014 already installed?
Do you have the lastest version of photoshop cc 2014, which should be 2014.2.1
(listed at the top of Help>System Info from within photoshop)
Do you see the same layer styles as shown above on your list?
Have you moved/copied any plugins from an earlier version of photoshop to the photoshop cc 2014 plugins folder?
The layer styles shown on the list above are the styles that ship with cc 2014 and should be in
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014/Presets/Styles
(the mac applications folder where all the other mac applications are installed)
You might try resetting the preferences, but you might need to uninstall photoshop cc 2014 and then reinstall.
(don't drag the cc 2014 to the trash, but use the Uninstall Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 in the photoshop cc 2014 application folder)

Press and hold down the Shift+Command+Option keys while starting photoshop cc 2014
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file

I want to update forms in the response file and save it. Sometimes it works, but often I need to save the response file in another name. Very inconsequent! How come?

I have a form that I am sending out and compiling in the response file. These forms I also want to be able to update after receiving them (when I have them in the response file).
But when I do the updates I need to re-save the response file with another name? The strange thing is that sometimes I can just update and save exactly the way I want it. But most of the time I get the message "This file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
Can someone please help me to figure out how to solve this issue. I know that I am the only one that has the file open. I am encountering the same issue in both Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro X. (File was created in Acrobat Pro 9)

A simple Paste does not work for you?
It should place the clipboard content as a new Layer which you can then move around.
If there is any chance that the elements need to be scaled, rotated etc. I would prefer to place them as Smart Objects (File > Place …) and do the masking that is specific to the images themselves in those.

Yes, that is correct.
Fortunately, you can map the APEX images directory to the drive in Windows (or volume on a Mac) using WebDAV. This way, you can edit the .css files right on the database, eliminating the need to load them to the database after each change.

DESKTOP USERS NEED ABILITY TO EDIT START MENU

One cannot currently edit the Windows 10 Tech Preview Start Menu, in the Windows 7 and earlier manner. Desktop users need this ability back, pronto.
For example, one cannot right-click an empty folder in the Start Menu and choose to delete it. To delete an empty folder from the start menu, one must navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs,
then delete the offending folder or file, then LOGOUT and log back in for the changes to take effect.
We ALSO need the ability to organize the "metro-style" apps into a folder, sort them, drag-and-drop them, etc., etc., just like any other program. Currently, on this PC I have over 70 "metro-style" apps installed. In the "All
Apps" view of the Start Menu, I now have to scroll past 70 items just to get to the "regular" programs installed on the PC. Not good. Not good at all.
I hope the development team has this on their plate or, if not, is listening. This one is very important to desktop users!!

This one issue more than any other has stopped us from deploying Windows 8 on our 14,000 computers and it seems to be continuing on to 10. I have a software library of 200 titles that have to be installed remotely after imaging. There seems
to be no way to publish these applications to the start menu via script and it is not feasible to have group policies for every subset of software. Not only do they need to show up, but show up before the Metro style apps. We'd get non stop calls
to the help desk if users had to scroll right to find an app they are looking for. I'd love to have a start screen category called "desktop apps" where I could publish all the titles installed post imaging.
Going beyond that, has anyone ever installed Smart Notebook? It installs 15 icons of different utilities. I was hoping that the start screen would support folders like an Android or iPhone does. While the start screen is friendly with one
button access, it is difficult to find the tile you want due to the sheer number of tiles available. With this new hybrid start menu, perhaps all the desktop apps could go back to the Win7 style menu with folders and leave the Metro one for the start

Exporting will create a new file for every Image you have selected. It will not overwrite any files.

Tom, I am assuming that this question is for a dev environment. I am assuming you are answering a question assuming a that this is an unmanaged environment where schema changes are being made in production
with no regression testing or promotion through a dev environment.
If it truly is an unmanaged production environment (and I suspect it is) it is all bets off whether my suggestion will fix the problem or not, but it might get the user through this particular problem only to stumble on the next problem.

How do I get the Spell Check to work. There is no drop down tab for spell checking in the edit tab.

I am using Adobe Captivate 4 still because I am developing content for Adobe Connect. My company is requiring that we all upgrade to Captivate 6. It won't work with Adobe Connect. Anyone out there know when Adobe is going to upgrade Adobe Connect to incorporate AS3 scripting so I that I can continue to use Captivate with Connect?

Adobe Connect was changed to AS3 around Nov 2010, with the release of Connect 8. I recall that Connect 8.1 was the hard change, where AS2 applications would no longer work with the meeting room.

Photoshop CS5 x64 crashing while editing layer styles

Hey there,
I searched and seeked through the whole interweb, but hardly anyone seems to have ever had such a problem, so I am guessing this is the right place to ask and hopefully be helped . Short version is: Photoshop CS5 (x64) is constantly crashing when editing a layer style.
I recently installed my CS5 Design Premium on a new laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook AH351) and am having severe problems with Photoshop CS5. On first run everything was fine, and it kept that way for a while. Now everytime I try to edit a layer style Photoshop crashes immediately. I do not need to alter anything, just open the layer style, press OK and Photoshop is gone. I can workaround by resetting preferences which works until next reboot, no matter if I change ANYTHING on the settings or not. Had tried this on the initial PS release and on the latest update (12.0.4). Once I reset settings again, I can work on layer styles again. Did anyone of you have a similar problem or a hint at what I might look?
The Lifebook has a decent feature which I suspect to somehow be the culprit of this case: it has an onboard graphics unit and a separate GPU (nVidia GForce GT 525M) which can be added in on a program-to-program basis. Photoshop indeed recognizes it and lets me activate OpenGL features as well, so from that point it seems fine. The internal GPU cannot be disabled since you connect your monitors to it.

Funny replying to myself repeatedly. It seems I have found the problem with no solution in sight. My findings are as follows:
I am running two external monitors on my laptop (HDMI and VGA), the laptop screen is off. If I unplug one screen, Photoshop is fine with me. No crashes.
In nVidia settings you can choose what GPU is being used for specific programs. Changing it to the internal one, Photoshop is fine with me. No crashes. Crappy performance.
I came to the idea of it having to do with dual monitors in my long way through help forums, and one thread here (on problems with 4 monitors) suggested to disable the ScriptingSupport.8li via re-naming which didn't work for me nonetheless. Now it seems up to me whether I'd love to farewell either my powerful GPU or my second monitor for working with Photoshop.
Still, does anybody have a notion of what else I could possibly do? I won't assume Fujitsu to offer a fix for this, since it is hard to track down precisely where the problem comes from.

Edit: BTW, Windows settings confirm both screens are handled by/connected to the internal GPU, no matter what Photoshop is using ultimately. That seems like normal behaviour, and I cannot switch since the two ports are on the internal card.
