Ejecting iPod causes other USB devices to be ejected at the same time.

When ejecting an iPod Nano 4g from iTunes under Windows Vista, all other USB devices attached to the computer are also ejected at the same time (external hard drives, thumb drives, scanners, etc.). Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Express is slow ethernet.. 10/100 only. The max speed of any connection to a USB hard disk is limited severely by the 100mbit..
USB is always slow btw.. This is actually a poor way to share a drive. A cheap NAS.. ie ethernet to Sata directly is far far superior and a single disk NAS can be had cheaply.. you will never get close with USB in network situations.
If you use a hub though, you can plug multiple disks into an Extreme.. I guess the network speed is at least no worse than the USB hub -- ethernet devices which are lousy as a whole.
Never forget you have the fastest ethernet adapters and fastest possible connectors already on computers on the network.. people are so utterly mesmerized by NAS they forget.. a FW800 or better USB3 if you have a newer computer shared to the network from a computer has much higher throughput and is much cheaper than even the very low end network stand alone boxes.

I have Satellite M70-159 and I didnt notice any strange problem with USB ports. I use a few of them like printer, webcam, USB memory stick, optical mouse and external HDD. The devices are recognized properly and I remove them always without safe remove option.
Now I have Vista preinstalled and till now there is no problem. If I understood you right USB ports are working well but there is problem with USB modem only. Am I right?
Try also to contact modem producer support. Maybe is issue like this known and hopefully they have some logical explanation.

Have you dropped it by any chance? I reccommend you take it back to the shop and swap it for a new one.

How to record a USB mic and a guitar at the same time?

I have an Audio-Technia AT-2020 USB mic and an Ovation acoustic/electric guitar. I wanted to record both of them at the same time, so i plugged the mic into the USB port (duh!) and the guitar into the 1/8" port on the computer (with a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter and a male/male headphone cable). However, when i went to select the inputs for the diffrent tracks, it was either one or the other. My question is, do you need an audio interface to be able to do multitrack recording? If so, could I use a USB hub, 1/8" to USB adapter, and plug both the guitar and mic to fool the computer into thinking i have an audio interface? I would rather not spend money on an audio interface ($200) and a new mic ($120) when i already have something that could work!

Slatebook x2 - USB flash and SD card at the same time

Hello, after almost two years of using this device I had a situation when I wanted to connect USB flash drive and a SD card at the same time (I wanted to copy files from SD to the USB flash drive). I connected the SD card (standard size) to the keyboard module. It was mounted OK. Then I connected the USB flash drive to the keyboard module. This was not mounted at all (no error message). When I dismounted the SD from storage menu then the USB flash drive was mounted automatically. I tried various orders of connecting the devices. I managed to get them work at the same time but then suddenly the USB drive was dismounted. I did not try to perform factory reset (please do not ask this for every issue, I have quite apps, files and settings on the device). It does not matter if the Slatebook is connected to power source. The Slatebook software is fully updated.note: The USB flash drive and the SD card works without any problem when only one of them is connected. Does anyone use SD card and USB flash drive at the same drive? Does it work for you?

Problem connecting Firewire device and external HD at the same time

Hi. I'm attempting to record digital audio through a Presonus Firepod A/D interface via a Firewire 400 to 800 cable connected to one of the Firewire 800 ports on a mid-2010 Mac Pro running Snow Leopard.
The problem is that if I have an external HD connected to one of the other Firewire 800 ports on the computer and powered on at the same time, the connection to the Presonus Firewire device is not recognized by the Mac Pro. Not only that, performance of the Mac Pro is affected adversely and System Profiler is unable to list any Firewire devices. If I turn the external HD off, the Presonus device is recognized and listed in System Profiler and the machine runs fine. I'm able to connect two external hard drives via separate Firewire 800 ports on the Mac Pro and both drives mount w/ no problem. It's only when I try to connect one of the external HDs and the Presonus audio device at the same time that the problem occurs.
I used this same arrangement on a PowerMac G5 running Tiger w/ no problems whatsoever. If the 400 to 800 cable is bad, I would think it wouldn't work at all, but it does when only the Presonus Firepod is connected and powered on. Any ideas?

Have done more research and apparently this is not an uncommon problem: overloading the Firewire bus when connecting an audio device along with an additional device like an external hard drive. As I understand it now, audio signal is a bandwidth hog and the solution is to get a Firewire PCIe card which will have its own independent Firewire bus and which I'll use exclusively for my audio device.

IPod Touch 4g won't charge and play at the same time

I used to have a 4g Nano that I would play in my car through an aux cable and charge through a cigarette lighter charger. I just got a 4th gen iPod Touch and it no longer lets me charge and play at the same time. If both wires are connected it will only charge and not play, once I pull the charger part out it will play through the speakers. Is there a fix to this? Do I need a different charger so that it won't think it's simply docked?

You would need to turn off hard drive mode via iTunes iPod settings on your home system to do this. I don't know if you have this mode on or off already. I thought I read that there is a way to enable/disable hard drive mode via the iPod buttons but I don't remember how.

How many wireless devices can WRT54G handle at the same time?

In my house I have WRT54G router and WRE54G range expander that work great with 2 Compaq desktop PCs connected via wireless USB cards, one noname, wired, PC and an Acer laptop that uses both wired and wireless access (one or the other, I use laptop at home sometimes).
The problem starts when I connect another laptop (Gateway). Immediately one or both of the wireless desktops is dropped and as long as the Gateway is connected, I can get the other two working by reseting the router and then only for a couple of minutes at the time.
It looks like I can only use 2 wireless and two wired connections at the same time, which I think is odd.
I've checked the router setup and tried experimenting with the allowed number of addresses that can be used, but that did not solve the problem.
I've installed the latest software updates and that did not work either.
I am using a secured access (WPA).
What else can I try and what am I missing?

Can device run multiple encryptions at the same time?

I have a G5 at home and I'm considering hooking up a new Airport Extreme to enable wirelsss access from my work laptop (WIN PC). I use a Netgear 54MBPS Wireless PC card WG511 v2 which supports 128bit encryption. Should this work with the mac APE and if so can I also run other encryption modes at the same time in future if needed. I will be connecting the APE to my cable modem and using one of the LAN ports to connect to the G5.

Will USB-6251 execute multiple tasks at the same time?

Hi all,
I have an application controling an experiment and logging data using a USB 6251. One measurement uses Two Edge Seperation , and takes a while to complete (20 to 30 seconds). Meanwhile I need to execute another task repeatedly to sense a digital input pin. Does anyone know if the USB 6251 can execute a second task while it's busy doing the edge seperation task? So far I haven't found anything in the documentation or on the forums.
BTW I can't just 'try it and see', or at least it's very tricky to do so. The control system is at the top of a scaffold tower, a long way from my development system. Every code change has to be deployed and installed to test it.
I recomend you avoid such an installation if you can ) It makes for a tough time debugging.

You can execute two tasks together as long as they are not accessing the same channels or digital lines.
For acquisiton on analog input channels, you cannot execute 2 tasks simultaneously even if they scan for 2 seperate sets of channels
For Ex: task 1: acquiring from analog channels 0 to 3 and task2 : acquiring from analog channels 4 to 6, will still give a 'device reserved' error, because a single ADC is available and used for multiplexing all channels in a task/ scan list and the second task will give up this error

Wireless keyboard only works when a USB keyboard is plugged in at the same time.

I dont understand. I just bought a Wirless Keyboard a few days ago. I paired it with my computer and it was recognized and connected and functioned. However, when I unplugged the USB keyboard that I was using before I bought this keyboard, it was still connected and recognized, but it stopped functioning. Any ideas?

Is it an Apple Bluetooth keyboard? You've no doubt checked the batteries are OK, although they shouldn't have gone flat in a few days.
You could try re-pairing it to see if it sticks, and you may want to make it a favourite, which helped when my Magic Mouse kept losing the BT connection.
Using the wired keyboard delete the BT keyboard from BT Preferences. Pair it again and when it's (hopefully) connected from the BT prefs window bottom left, click on the 'cog' and select 'Show more options'. You should then get the opportunity to make it a favourite. Disconnect the wired keyboard and fingers-crossed.

Early today the green phone key would not work at all. I could not make a call from the address book either. What to do? I was ready to return to the Sprint store and exchange it. It's not quite 2 months old and the second one. The first 8330 froze and Sprint instructed me to exchange it.
Pulling the battery put me back in business. Does anyone know the basic cause?

I really don't think there is a basic cause per se. Sometimes small glitches appear without rhyme or reason. The battery pull just kinda gives everything a chance to reset.

Charging and using the Ipod at the same time

I have a MAC and my Ipod is formatted for MAC. While the Ipod is plugged in to the MAC with the USB cable, I can eject it and use the Ipod while it is charging. At work, I plug the Ipod in to a Windows machine. It mounts although it is not formatted for Windows and it charges. When I un-mount it, leaving it plugged in, it doesn't seem to charge. Is there a way that I can use the Ipod while it is plugged in to the Windows machine and see it charging? There seems to be no info. online.

An iPod formatted for a Mac will not work on a Windows PC. See the extract below from the iPod FAQ. However you could try formatting it for Windows and see if it works for you on both. As you can see the FAQ says that some iPods may work however it's not supported by Apple.

How can I open the iTunes libraries for my computer and my iPod at the same time?

Before a recent upgrade I was able to have my iPod music library and computer music library open at the same time in order to check and see what songs I wanted to manually sync. Now I can't figure out how to do it - either one is open or the other, but nt both at the same time.

IPod Touch 4G 'USB Device Malfunctioned'

My iPod touch 4th Generation charges when connected to aan external dock, but will not connect to my brand new Laptop, my wall connector, or any other device I have tried it on. The cable is okay because it charges my iPhone (which connects to the laptop fine). When I connect it to the laptop, I get an error message: USB Device not recognised - 'The llast USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it'.
I've gone through all the recommended ports of call, tried changing alll of the settings, but nothing works!

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
Next since the laptop sees the iphone
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Backup the iPod to iCloud
