Elements 6 Mac - install problems

I am using Mac OS X v. 10.5.6
A while ago, I downloaded, installed and used the Elements 6 Mac trial version. The trial period has now expired. I have just purchased the boxed software, assuming that I could simply enter the serial number and carry on using the already installed software.
However, the trial version does not accept the serial number that I have from my DVD package. On the front of the box, it states "Not for distribution in Asia Pacific or North America". I am in the UK, so I'm wondering if there is something different about the serial number required by the trial version - has anyone else experienced this problem?
I have tried to install from the DVD, but that also fails. On initialising Setup, I get the following javascript error message:
Critical errors were found in setup
- Incompatible payloads already installed
Please see the Setup log file for details.
I'm probably not the first to have encountered this issue. I'd be very grateful if someone here can help, or point me to an appropriate FAQ or similar.

It's preferable to use the uninstaller since Adobe installers strew stuff all over the hard drive rather than following the mac developer guidelines for putting everything into a neat package, but cleanscript will nuke all the adobe stuff it can find, so hopefully it will get the trouble-causing bits.

Rather than try to root through all those thousands of files to figure out where exactly the conflict lies, it's easiest to create a new virgin user folder for the install, but you can wait to see if you have trouble running from your existing account if you want.
Thank you Barbara for your help. I finally got rid of the trial version
and installed the purchased software after running the cleanscript. (I
did not need to create an additional user).

  • Solution to Elements 6 install problem !

Like many other people on this forum, I was unable to install Photoshop Elements 6 on my mac. I had already installed a trial version 6 successfully then gone to the web store to buy an upgrade. After paying my US$70 and getting a serial number, I found that the program did not accept my serial number ! After reading through all the the other posts on the web, I uninstalled, reinstalled, ran the cs3clean script, created a new admin account, tried everything and still couldn't activate the program. Contacted Adobe's online customer support who closed the case after telling me to call the telephone support but before ascertaining I had found a solution.
Finally, I discovered the problem - despite what the instructions tell you, you cannot just activate a trial program. I had to uninstall the trial, download a new installer from the Adobe account, and then use that one to install. I had previously been using the trial installer - which doesn't say "trial" anywhere - and which repeatedly refused to accept my serial number. The contents look exactly the same as the good installer, except that the disk image has "TB" in its name, as in PSE_6.0_MAC_TB_WWEFGJ.dmg vs PSE_6.0_MAC_WWEFGJ.DMG.
Most publishers use the same installer for both their trial and full versions, but if Adobe wants to be different, OK, it should just make it clear that the trial cannot actually be activated even if you enter a valid serial number ! The interface for the two look exactly the same, and the trial has a splash screen asking you to enter a serial number, except that it just doesn't work !
Overall, a very bad experience. If Adobe were not the only alternative to iPhoto/Aperture for editing raw, I would not have bought this program.

Well, there are so many other people reporting problems installing PSE that I just tried all the other solutions that were mentioned. I don't think any other thread mentioned the fact that the trial installer and full installer are actually different files ! All the other discussions were on how to properly uninstall the old version. My probem was that I hadn't deleted the trial installer and I kept clicking that image instead of the new installer which was saved in another folder.
I mean, everyone else uses the same disk image for trial and full versions. Who would have thought Adobe would make you download a 1.3GB file twice ? After mounting the images, both installer discs look exactly the same, right down to the version number of the setup.app application. If I hadn't noticed the TB in the file name of the trial disk image, I would never even have realized that they are actually different.
Are there any circumstances in which a trial can actually be activated ? If not, why does Adobe even leave the serial number dialog in there ?

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac install problem.

I just purchased Adobe Photoshop CS 5 for Mac and installed it on December 17, 2013. Last week I updated to a new harddrive. I am trying to re-install Photoshop and the disc asks all the usual questions: serial number, Adobe ID, Adobe Password, then the disk kicks out and says done. I open the applications folder and the Adobe Photoshop folder only has one file with 30 KB. Obviously, Photoshop will not open.

I was concerned that Adobe Photoshop CS6 would require me to update my computer to Mac OS 10.8. I updated from Mac OS 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 and lost my old InDesign and my old Photoshop. I purchased InDesign CS6. I read online that Photoshop CS6 was having problems with Mac OS 10.7.5 so I went with Photoshop CS5. I went to Best Buy and Simply Mac to try and purchase the program. They both told me to just go online and buy it. Nobody said go directly to Adobe. The problem is that I am just a homeowner that is not in the know about all these products. My wife is a school teacher and I could have purchased an education version. I thought, no I will just go ahead and purchase the full retail version.
The problem with Adobe is they think everyone is a computer geek and knows all about operating systems and programs. I am just a normal homeowner that is being taken advantage of by Adobe. Adobe manufactured and sold this product to a retail dealer. The product I purchased has never been licensed and I paid full retail for it. Now Adobe will not stand behind it!

  • Mac install problem

in this forum I read about problems installing the FireWoprk mobile extension pack on Windows computers. I got a problem when I try it to install it on my Mac:
De extensie bevat geen geldige handtekening. Het extensie pakket wordt niet gemaakt. (The extension contains no valid signature. The extension packet is not made.).
    Fireworks 11.1.0.205
    Mac OSX 10.7.2

well, actually I now have a nother problem.
I installed last Extension Manager, which is v 5.5.163 and now it says it can't work because it needs FireWorks version between 11.0 and 11.1 (in french)
11.0.0.484 is not between 11.0 and 11.1 on the other side of the ocean?

  • Photoshop Elements 6 Install Problem

I just got PSE 6 Mac Version for my iMac and I have tried installing it a few times and it won't work. It installs the shared files (Bridge CS3, Help Viewer, and Stock Photo CS3) but after taking about 30 minutes for the installation, it doesn't install actual photoshop. On the last screen of the installation it says Error with installation of Adobe Photoshop Elements, but doesn't give a reason why. Does anyone know how to fix this and install the actual program? I already tried making a new admin id and installing it on that in case something on my id was interfering. PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Frank Land;
Ages ago when I first decided to get use Adobe products, I started off with demo software. When my real software finally arrived I deleted the demo software and then attempted to install the new. Nothing would install at all. I called Adobe support and their solution was to send me new media which worked as well as the original, not at all.
Finally on the Adobe forum one of the user there suggested a script that goes through your system and removes all of the bit and pieces that Adobe has installed throughout your system. Once I ran the script, everything installed like a champ.
This was a very long time ago and I can no longer find the script on my system. Maybe if you go to the Adobe forums and ask around for cleanup script that same user might be able to help you also.

  • Photoshop CS2/Elements 4 install problems!

This has been bugging me since I got both programs; whenever I attempt to install them, when it tries to install "shared items", it says a "required file is missing", and then tells me to restart the installation. I have no idea what this "required" file is, all I know is that no matter how many times I try to install either Elements or CS2, I get the same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what's the missing required file?
    Thanks in advance

In as much as the two applications are third party you might want to post over in the Adobe forum support web site. What required file is missing?

  • Intel Mac Install Problems

Is anyone else out there running a new Intel Mac with 10.4.8?
The problem comes when I go to install CF MX 7.2. I tried all the
configurations possible for developer (stand alone, with JRun, on
top of J2EE) and it just won't install right. It gets to the part
where it says 'it installed okay first part, but to finish the
install check firewall ports, etc. and make sure CF is running.'
Anyway, I can never get CF to run. It tries to, and can't. The
annoying part is I have to manually uninstall the crap too each
time, as the 'uninstaller' gets so far and asks me for my admin
password (not the CF admin password, RDS password, but the actual
admin pass for my account). I enter it and it keeps telling me it
is wrong. So you can't unistall with the unistaller. Funny thing
though is when I go to just trash the whole app manually the system
asks for my admin pass and it takes it just fine.
So, my main question is: Has anyone gotten CF MX 7.2 to
successfully install and run on an Intel Mac? Or will it only work
on an older PowerPC? (All my other Macromedia/Adobe stuff is
running just fine since I upgraded from the PowerPC. It was a
little slow at first, but I threw a bunch of ram at it. I cannot
get CF to install at all though...)
Anyone with advice or insight please respond...
    Thanks.

  • Elements 9 install problem

I have used Elements 9 for some time on a Mac Air.  I used Apple's Migration Assistant to move all files to a new Air.  All went well except that when I try to open Elements, I get a message to the effect that it is missing some components, and should be re-installed.  When I try to do that, using my original CD, I get a message that the "Installer failed to initialize."
A similar question in this forum yielded the suggestion to use Disc 3.  I don't seem to have a Disc 3, nor remember ever having one.  Any ideas?

Oy. You have made a boatload of trouble for yourself by trying to migrate PSE. You can never, never do that, since PSE is not a nice tidy package in accordance with the apple developer guidelines. The PSE installer is more like a shot of buckshot--it strews stuff all over your hard drive in places the migration assistant is not programmed to look, and you can never find all the bits and bobs you would need.
You will need to start by downloading and running this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Then manually hunt around and remove all the bits of PSE that you can find. Be sure to check not only the applications folder, but also the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe. (nb, spotlight will not do this search)
Yes, if you bought PSE on disc, you will need to make a copy of disc 3 and copy those files to the Air. If you bought a download, go to the main page of adobe.com and click on My Adobe and work your way through the links there. If you're lucky you may still have a link to the download there, but they're only available for a limited time so you may be past it for PSE 9 now.

  • Elements 12 Install problems

I purchased Elements 12 from the trial version and have been trying to download and install for a week now.  I have encountered errors about the files being downloaded to seperate areas to files being unable to be unzipped and am currently getting halfway through the install wizard when the next box says "Program Maintenance"  "Remove Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 from your computer" "Uninstall Options, remove preferences" Please help.

    Hi Musicforfun,
Which OS are you using? Did you simply copy the installer files from the PC to laptop or have you downloaded the software?
Please redownload the software on the latop and install.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 install problem

Hi, I've just downloaded Premier Elements 11 and Photoshop 11 to my PC, and run the installer.  Photoshop Elements did not appear on my program list.  When I found the Photoshop 11 .exe file by searching and ran it, it takes me to the screen where you choose between organiser and editor.  But if I click on photo editor, nothing happens.  And if I try to edit a photo from Premier Elements, it says photoshop is not installed.  Any ideas?  Many thanks

    Hi DougalScott1,
If you don't see Photoshop installed on your systme please try redownloading the package and installing it again.
Did you encounter any errors during installation?
Have you checked that your computer meets the minimum system requirements?

  • Elements 12 install problem

Latest MacBook Pro with latest opsystem updates.
I have Elements family v11 installed.  Trying to update to Elements v12.
Tells me to close appliction "Elements autoanalyser".
    I have not un-installed v11 - in case update doesn't work...which it does not.
Have rebooted system but same message.  Cannot locate anything open. (Cmd/Alt/Esc)
    Any help appreciated please.

Auto Analyzer is a process, not an application, so it never appears in the force quit window. Go to applications>utilities>activity monitor and stop it there.
