  • External monitor resolution problem

    Hi,
My external monitor's resolution is 1920 x 1080 but the highest I see in resolutions' list is 1600 X 900 or 1344 x 1008.  I am connecting my MacBook snow leopard to Asus ML249H with HDMI cable.  I've tried some suggestions that were posted for Mac Pro but nothing worked.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

  • External monitor resolution problems with Mountain Lion

I have a problem with my external monitor (Samsung LS19B150NS) and Mountain Lion (running on unibody Mac Mini). Each time I reboot OSX the resolution get reset from native 1366 x 768 to something lower. The display is connected via DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter. Some observations:
    - I tried selecting "Best for..." option or "Scaled" (set on 1366 x 768 or 1360 x 768). The problem is still there
    - Sometimes resoltuion might stay alright for several reboots, but then the problem re-appears again

    - Other monitors work fine via the same adapter

MacBook Pro mid 2012. Samsung 204Ts Monitor is not working in full res. However it works in full resolution on Mac Mini (Core 2 Duo)

In order to get the external monitor's native resolution uncheck use mirrored mode in your display preferences. If you are using mirrored mode then your computer's display, including its resolution is used on the external monitor,

According to System Preferences, I currently have a maximum resolution of 1280x800 on my built-in monitor.   When I hook up a my large external monitor with higher resolution capabilities, I don't seem to be able to use the whole screen size and I'm losing about 4" of space that I desperately need!

Each has its limitations. Mirroring limits the external to the internal's max resolution. Extended desktop doesn't allow you to mirror. You're going to have to decide which you like better.
I'm still not clear what you're seeing in extended desktop. You should be able to get a whole desktop's worth of display on the external display, not just half of it. Open display prefs > arrangement again and drag the menu bar from the little/built in display over to the big one/external display.

  • Acer AL2032w as an external monitor: Resolution problem

    Hi,
naive as I am I bought the AL2032w widescreen LCD for my new PB and didn't expect any problems since the monitor has exactly the same max. resolution (1680x1050) as the PB LCD itself and as the Apple 20" Cinema Display... well...
Now the monitor settings of OSX identify the display as "Acer MFM DVI" and only offer me strange resolutions like 1600x1200, 1360x768, 1344x1008, etc.
What can I do to get the full 1680x1050?
    Thanks,
    Y.
PS: "Buy a cinema display!" is not an answer...

I am not positive of this but it sounds like you may
have to make a trip to the Monitor Manufactures Web
site and see if they Offer an update to the Firmware
Drivers for this Monitor for your Mac and Operating
    System.
It might also be that the settings that you have
found that are available to your Mac might be all you
have, and the Higher resolution and drivers and
    firmware are for a PC.
    Cheers Don
Well the problem is that the Firmware should be up to date (monitors are brandnew), and drivers are an issue of the graphic card provider, and here ATI refuses any help since it would be Apple's business to do this...
So, I'm still open for suggestions, especially how to tinker with the monitor settings in Tiger, I'd expect the monitor to work if I could make the Mac believe it is an Apple Cinema Display...
    All the best

  • Est. external monitor resolution

I am trying to set up a samsung syncmaster 191Tplus as an external monitor on my macbook from early 2008 running 10.6.8. When I plug it in, both screens flash (not just a flicker) as shown in this youtube video posted by someone else, but my problem is the same
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-Yz-Em2GU4.
I am using the mini-DVI to VGA adaptor. The resolution of the samsung is 1280x1024, which is not listed in my choice of display resolutions. Is this the cause? What can I do? I can't access settings to change anything after the monitor is connected, and I can't find settings for the external monitor before it is connected. Would using SwitchResX work to create a monitor resolution preset before plugging in the second monitor?

OK, here is something to try. Go into System Preferences and select Displays. In the window that opens will be a checkbox for "Show displays in menu bar." Put a checkmark there and make it active. There should now be a little icon of an Apple display on the right side of the menu bar at the top of the screen. If you click on it, it will drop down and give you a short cut to different resolutions. There should be a checkmark next to the currently active resolution. Is it set to 1440 x 900? If not, set it there.
If you are still getting that message from the monitor, well, I don't think the Mac is lying about sending 1440 x 900. If the screen doesn't look right to you, try using the Auto Adjustment feature on your Viewsonic monitor. It could just be that the image needs adjusting.

  • External monitor resolution setting is not saved

I use an external monitor as an extended desktop for my macbook pro.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the mbp, the resolution of the external monitor reverts back to the default resolution. Is there any way to set the resolution of the external monitor and have the mbp save it even after turning the mbp on and off?

    Hello all,
After installing the 10.5.2 update, my Macbook Pro's boot time increased. So, after researching this issue, I decided to reset the PRAM. This solved the boot time problem, as my Mac now boots as quickly as it did prior to the update. But now, the brightness setting is not saved and the brightness level returns to the maximum value each boot up. Other settings, like audio level, are saved properly. The brightness seems to be the only problem. Any ideas on how to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Anthony
Besides staying with 10.5.1 has anyone found a real solution to this? I want to install Aperture and I need to have 10.5.2 installed in order to instal Aperture v2.x.
    Thanks!

  • T400- make the external monitor primary problem.

    I use T400 and Acer p223w monitor.
From some reason I cannot make the external monitor to be the primary monitor.
Using the Presentation Doctor I have the option to define the external monitor as the primary but when I test it, it says that I have illegal parameters of color depth and resolution.
The problem is that the parameters I use are the parameters currently defined on the two monitors (which mean the monitors have no problem working that way).
Any other color depth resolution combination won’t solve the problem.
On the other hand using the same parameters if I configure the laptop monitor to be the primary everything works just fine.
Any idea what causing it and how to solve it will be highly appreciated.

Since I have a German Windows client I can only guess the wording on the english client, but try the following, which worked on my T500:
Bring up the mobility center by pressing Win+X
Click the button to connect an external monitor
Choose to use the external monitor as the only display
Now that the external monitor is the only display, it is also primary of course. Now you can use the normal windows display dialog (Right-Click on desktop -> Configure -> Display) to extend the desktop to the internal display which will be secondary then
    done
In my case windows remembers this configuration and you do not have to do these steps again after reboot or when you reconnect the external monitor.
Hope this helps for the T400, too.

  • ITunes changes external monitor resolution (permanently!)

    OS X 10.6.8
    MBP 2010
External Monitor NEC 2690WUXI (1900x1200), DVI via original Apple MiniDP to DVI port
Since last night, whenever I start iTunes, the external monitor goes into 720p mode and I need to delete various plists, clear caches (OnyX), turn off, reset SMC and PRAM etc in order to have the option to get 1900x1200 resolution again. Then the moment I run iTunes, the monitor settings are lost and it is treated like a 'TV' again.
Please help, this is $#"$#" driving me insane, that my expensive, pro level, color corrected monitor is not being detected correctly anymore (it has worked for 24 months)

This is driving me absolutely fuc****g insane.
My double monitors are switching back and forth, the resolution is changing, they are flickering on and off, sometimes they are going off totally and I cant get anything back on the screen without shutting the entire computer down.
If this is caused by i-tunes (which I think it is since the problem started on the date that I updated the program), then it is an ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE. You should write individual apology letters to every single one of your users who you have made undergo this time waste and mind screwing.

  • Please help me with external monitor resolution! Now!!

So i just bought a 22' Acer monitor to use via a VGA adapter with my xbox 360 (to get weak HD in time for Halo 3). I also own a MacBook Pro (the latest Sata Rosa one) which has an Nvidia GeForce 8600M graphics card with 128 VRAM. To my dismay however when i plug the monitor into the MacBook Pro via the DVI to VGA adapter that came with it i find the screen resolution to being very low, almost standard definition. I have fiddled with the settings and everything and found the best resolution is to have the MBP on 1440x900 and the Acer monitor on 1680x1050at 60Hz but its still shoddy resolution. Please could anyone shed some light on the subject? The funny thing is though, when i boot into Windows via Bootcamp, the monitor looks alot better (but still not good enough) and i have far more settings to adjust via the Nvidia control panel. Please help me with this because i only have a few days to decide wether or not I should take it back. Thankyou.
Here's the monitor with some specs: http://www.pcworld.co.uk:80/martprd/store/pcwpage.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0884756254.1190642998@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccggaddmdfmkflmc flgceggdhhmdgmi.0&categoryoid=-27763&sku=774215&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null

I have a similar problem. New Macbok Pro with an Nvidia card and an external monitor (HP f2105) 21 inches max resolution of 1680x1050.
My issue only happens via Boot Camp on Windows Vista (it's fine in OS X and Paralells).
I previously owned a Macbook and the external display was at max resolution, now, I only get a non-modifiable 1024x768 option on the HP display...
Don't know what to do, no info on Nvidia or HP forums... I assume it's a driver issue. COuld it be that a HP driver for the display itself help? Do drivers for displays actually exist?
Sad that the Macbook Pro does not comply as well as a normal Macbook.

  • Question About External Monitor Resolution

Can my external monitor's resolution (such as 1920/1200) connected to my macbook be higher then the 1280/800 my computer has?

The problem with running in mirrored mode is that the external display will be limited to a set of resolutions that match the aspect ratios that are supported by the MacBook's internal LCD. This means that you will end up with a limited set of resolutions on your external display and it may even be impossible to select the optimum or native resolution for your external display (when running in the mirrored mode). However, when you disable mirrored mode you should be able to select any resolution that is supported by the external display itself (as reported by the display hardware). However, there have been reports of users having problems with resolution settings when they connect a display using HDMI, since in some cases that appears to default to a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, which is the standard 1080P for HDTV.

  • MBP external monitor resolution issue

Hi, im having issues with my 2010 MBP 13 inch, which has an Nvidia 320M,
Ive installed Windows 7 32 bit, and connected a Hanns G HG216D external monitor thru a mini display port to VGA connector.
The problem is that the maximum resolution i can get is 1024x768, i cannot choose or create the native resolution of my monitor which is 1680x1050.
Ive tried installing the monitor drivers with no luck.
Does someone has experience on this?
    Thanks in advance!

I was able to get it by having arandr help generate the config, here's the solution that worked for me:
xrandr --output HDMI1 --off --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of DP1 --output DP1 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --auto --output VGA1 --off

  • Mini DVI to external monitor (VGA) problem/firmware update does nothing

    Hi,
Four months ago I bought a new white 13-inch Macbook (2006 model I believe) along with a handy mini-DVI - VGA adapter. I used a Hanns-G HU196D external monitor which worked fine for a couple of months but then stopped, and had the same problem with a (much cheaper) 'LiteView' monitor. I find it bizarre how they work absolutely fine and then stop, with no damage to the adapter, cable or ports. I've since bought a new adapter and cables + trying out a different monitor and still the same problem...
I've installed a firmware update that describes the exact symptoms, but it's done nothing. Can anyone help me resolve my issue?? It's still under warranty so is it an unusual problem that'll need to be fixed by Apple?
    Thanks

Are you using the mini DVI to DVI followed by a DVI to VGA adapter? That may not work if the mini DVI to DVI adapter does not pass analog video. If that is the case, you need the mini DVI to VGA adapter:

  • External monitor resolution in Vista on MacBook Pro

I am running Vista Ultimate on a MacBook Pro. I have a Dell 24" external monitor plugged in, which supports a top resolution of 1920 x 1200. But Vista thinks it's a generic non-PnP monitor with a top resolution of 1024 x 768. I have installed the Windows drivers from my Leopard disk, but neither the Vista Displays control panel nor the nVidia software think the resolution of this monitor can go any higher. I tried looking on nVidia's site for newer drivers, but they said for the M series video cards to go to the computer manufacturer for drivers because they modify them for power consumption and other special needs.

    I found the solution.
    Go here:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17701
Click on Driver to download it.
    Extract it
    Go to
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17701 again
Click on Modded INF to download it.
Copy it to the extracted folder.
    Run setup.exe
You now have full control over your nvidia card. Which also means you can plug in external monitors
Tested on Macbook pro 15" with nvidia 8600M GT.
