Email button doesn't work with Adobe Reader, only Acrobat

Hi,
I'm new to Adobe products and don't have much experience. Here's my problem.
I used LiveCycle Designer ES2 to create a fillable PDF form, with an email submit button. (uses mailto: to open users Outlook and attaches the pdf automatically)
The form is viewable by all, but the email button only works if opened with Acrobat.
Is there a way to have this work with Reader? We obviously don't have Acrobat licenses for every user.
Any support or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The problem is deeper than that. It's not reader. Now the same form I was creating in LifeCycle Designer ES2 yesterday, with the actions working perfectly, no longer work. None of the actions are working.
Could it be realted to me trying to set the default version compatibility to Adobe 7. It gave me warnings, so I set it back to 9.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • Interactive button in PDF file doesn't work with Adobe Reader for Mac nor Acrobat Pro

    Hello!
I've to use a interactive form which has an interactive button that is supposed to send that form by email. If I open that PDF with my iPhone or iPad with the PDF Expert App, it works perfectly, but for any strange reason, when I try to open that same PDF in my Mac with Adobe Reader or Acrobat pro, that button doesn't do anything.
Can this be a configuration error?
    Thanks!

  • Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard Work With Adobe Reader 8.2.4?

    Hello,
I have a question, but haven't found an answer to this yet.
Can anyone tell me please:  Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard work with Adobe Reader 8.2.4?
I had Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard on my computer & it was working with Adobe Reader 8, but don't remember what the version it was.
I was using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard to scan very old family pictures & documents & I realize that this version of Acrobat is outdated.
To make a long story short, my computer had crashed, so we built another computer & just replaced the hard drive.  When I went to Adobe, I had to download the newer version of Reader 9.0 & it didn't work with Acrobat 6.0., so I removed Adobe Reader 9 & I found Adobe Reader 8.0 & have downloaded the patches, so now I have Adobe Reader 8.2.4 back on board.
    Thank you.

Adobe doesn't recommend any version of Reader with any version of Acrobat on Windows. It will cause problems. It just is a matter of how and when. The problem has to do with shared resources causing conflicts. If you have Acrobat 8, you can update it to Acrobat 8.2.4. You must apply the updates sequentially.

  • Adobe Form Calling WebService Doesnu00B4t work with Adobe Reader 7

    Hi experts,
We have created and adobe form that simulates a PM Notification in which the user, without logging into SAP, through an RFC and WebServices can create the notification into SAP.
This process only works with Adobe Reader 9 and not with Adobe Reader 7.
Can anyone tell me what main difference/component/functionality does Adobe Reader 9 have that Adobe Reader 7 doesn´t?
When I call the Webservice through the form in Adobe 7, a pop-up message appears that says:
"Error attempting to read from file.
    http://desaecc6.codelco.cl:8001/sap/bc/rfc/sap/zi_aviso_adobe_pm12/222/zi_aviso_adobe_pm12/zi_aviso_adobe_pm12"
Any ideas why this error ocurrs only in Adobe Reader 7?
    Thanks and best regards,

    Hello,
I cannot tell what are the exact differencies between the version. But I can tell you should always use (at least try to use the newest Reader). I guess you´re not the only developer on Forms, so there are possibly more people depending on the version of the client browser/ Reader. There is a solution for this problem, which does not ask anything from you, only the user.
You can easily test the Reader version through JS coding and act based on the result. I use this like this "if your Reader is lower than 8.1" then "message popup = We are sorry, your Reader is too old, this form won´t work for you. Please upgrade first.". It takes like 5 minutes (10 for lame users at max) to update his Reader.
Maybe you should this about such a test, if the user passes the test, his application won´t have any problem, if not there is no guarantee. And YOU have no problem, nobody tells you "hey sir, your form is not working, I´m not gonna pay you".

  • Web Dynpro dropdown doesn't work for Adobe Reader 8

    Hi All,
I've developed a Web Dynpro project which uses Interactive form.
The form has a dropdown (simple type from WDJ).
The dropdown works for Adobe Reader 7 but doesn't work for Adobe Reader 8 (when I press the arrow to open the list nothing happens).
Do I need to config/install something for supporting Adobe Reader 8?
    I'm using J2EE 7.13.
    Thanks,
    Omri

    Dear Omri,
Make sure that you are using Adobe Reader 8.1.1.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Anto.

The file is uploaded to the web for conversion. You can manually upload pdfs for conversion with your web browser and/or with Reader 10.1.

  • Email-Button funktioniert nicht / Email-Button doesn't work

    Entschuldigt bitte, mein schlechtes Englisch.
    (Please excused my bad english.)
Ich habe ein pdf erstellt, welches nicht bei allen Benutzern funktioniert.
(I have constructed a formular which doesn't work by everybody)
Es funktioniert nur bei denen, die Adobe Prof. installiert haben.
(It works only by thos users which have Adobe Prof. on their pc.)
Manche haben aber nur den Adobe Reader oder den Adobe Prof und den Adobe Reader. Hier funtioniert das Formular nicht. Sie können das Formular ausfüllen, zurücksetzen aber nicht versenden.
(Some users have only Adobe Reader and some users have Adobe Prof. and Adobe Reader. Here the formular doesn't work. They can only fill and reset the formular but they can't send this formular.)
Wenn ich bei diesen Benutzern das Formular mit dem Adobe Prof. erzwinge, funktioniert es auch hier, aber nicht mit dem Adobe Reader. Leider öffnet es sich standardmäßig mit dem Reader.
(When I enforce the opening with Adobe Prof. on this pc's the formular works but not with Adobe Reader. Unfortunately the pdf open with the Reader.)
    Jeder Benutzer hat ein Desktop-Email-Programm.
    (Every user has a Desktop-Email-Programm.)
Die erweiterten Verwendungsrecht habe ich ebenso aktiviert.
(I activate the extended options in Adobe Prof. to save this document also with Adobe Reader.)
Ich glaube, der einzige Unterscheid sind verschiedene Netze mit evtl. verschiedenen Sicherheitseinstellungen.
(I guess the only difference is that my employer have many different LAN's with possibly different securitysettings.)
Habt ihr eine Idee, woran es liegen könnte, dass es nicht funktioniert bzw. nur teilweise?
(Has anybody an idea what's the reason could be?)
Vielen Dank für Eure Hilfe. (Many theanks for your help)
Liebe Grüße Mandy (Kind regards Mandy.)

    Hi,
If you are trying to send you form as pdf, your form has to be Reader extend with save permission. Acrobat reader has this ability while Reader - not,  that is why your form works fine under Acrobat and not working under Reader.
To reader extend form you can use Reader Extensions ES .

  • AcroPDF ActiveX print functions are not working with Adobe Reader 9.2 / Actobat Reader 9.3

AcroPDF ActiveX print functions are not working with Reader 9.2/9.3. Tried ActiveX print functions like printPages(), printAll(), printWithDialog(), none of them is working. Tried on platforms: XP 32 bit and Win7 32 bit. These print functions all work fine with Adobe Reader 9.1.0. or 8.2.0 or 8.1.0 on XP 32 bit or Win7 32 bit.
The way I have my setup: I have created a C/C++ project with AcroPDF MFC ActiveX classes. I have created an AcroPDF object in there, and then calling it's LoadFile() function passing a pdf file in the parameter. Then calling the printPages() or printAll() function. With Adobe Reader 9.1.0. or 8.2.0 or 8.1.0, printing is starting through the default printer without any problem. As soon as I update the reader version to 9.2 or more, the same code stops working.
Is anybody noticing any similar issue? Any info on this will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Unfortunately printWithDialog() is also not working. Actually none of the print functions like Print(), printWithDialog(), printPages(), printPagesFit(), printAll(), printAllFit() are working. All of them works fine though with older reader.
BTW, what security related changes are there for printPages() and printAll()? Can you please elaborate on that? Is there any workaround?

  • How do I manually add the php3 file type to work with Adobe Reader, Safari does this automatically.

downloading php3 files auto jumps to text edit,, cannot tell it to open with "adobereader" , no chance to do so. Tried reading on how I might add the file manually to tell preferences applications to add this file type and open it with adobe reader. Only saw download the file and then firefox will let you open with a program. Can't get there in that text edit opens it.
Safari has no problems with this in that it opens it in adobe reader easily, no work on my part so ????
how do I get firefox to do the same

Do you get the dialog asking whether you want to Open, Save or Cancel? That may indicate the file type Firefox thinks it is getting from the server.
If you can't coax Firefox into revealing the content type indicated by the server, could you post a link to one of the PDFs, assuming no login is required to access one?

  • Firefox 17.0.1 on my Mac OSX 10.7.5 will no longer work with Adobe Reader 11.0.0. What shall I do to fix it ?

When I try to read a page with Adobe Reader I get the following message:
Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser.
Why is that ? It occurer a short period ago, and prior to that I have had no problem.
I have no problem when I use Safari - but normally I prefer Firefox.
So, please help me - and tell me what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

You can disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
*Firefox > Preferences > Applications > Adobe PDF document : Use Adobe Reader
PDF files may also be found under another entry like Portable document.

  • My Keyboard doesn't work in Adobe Reader (10.1.1)

My keyboard no longer works inside adobe reader. It works fine everywhere else, but when in Reader no keyboard keys work (no shortcut keys, no pgup/down, no up/down, no ctrl+c to copy, can't type in a number into navigation bar, can't type in serach into find field, etc)
    I'm using Windows XP
I've tried rebooting the computer, and uninstalling/reinstalling adobe reader.
I haven't installed anything new since it was working.
    any ideas?

Disable Protected Mode in the Preferences | Accessibility menu.

  • Submit by Email won't work with Adobe Reader 6

I have created a form that must be submitted back to our corporate offices, the problem is the people it is being sent to may be running Adobe Reader 6. When I try to use the submit by email button in version 6 nothing happens. The form works fine in the newer Adobe. Any help saving this to work for the older version would be great. Thanks!

You have enable Reader Rights with Acrobat 8 Professional (prior versions will not work), pay a 3rd party or buy Adobe's server product.

  • Email submit button doesn't work with Thunderbird

I created a LiveCycle (v8.2.1) form with the email submit button. Works fine if the sender is using Outlook. If their using Thunderbird, it does not. I installed Thunderbird on my system (normally I use Outlook) and set Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs email to use Mozilla Thunderbird as the email program. When I click the Email button on my LiveCycle PDF form, I get a message telling me: Select an Email Client. The "Desktop Email Application" radio button is checked and that should be fine; the explanation for this button indicates that it should be checked "if you currently use an email application such as Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, or Mail.". I leave that checked, since I am using an email application and click OK. After 20-30 seconds, I get a message with the title bar: Microsoft Office Outlook "A program is trying to access e-mail address information stored in Outlook..." Allow|Deny|Help. I click Deny. After a minute or so, an Outlook "New" email window appears with the appropriate information from my LiveCycle PDF form. Right content, wrong email client. Since Thunderbird is my "default" email application, where is LiveCycle coming up with Outlook? What do my customers do who don't use Outlook?
I hope someone has a good solution.
    Thanks.

When you click the submit button, do you get a window that has the title "Select Email Client"and has the options of "Desktop Email Application" and "Internet Email"? If not, does anything at all happen?
Note that Mac users must have Acrobat or Reader installed and be viewing the PDF in Acrobat or Reader for it to work. Many (most?) Mac users have the Preview Application as their default PDF viewer, and it does not support many interactive features such as form submissions. Although some third-party PDF viewers for Windows support form submissions, many do not.
For those that do not use PDF viewers that support form submissions, they will have to manually attach the document to an email message.
