Email error - "cannot get mail"

Hi,
Just hoping for a little help!
We recently had an email account disconnected by our provider in error (we changed from a mobile Internet connection to home ADSL & requested an email retention, which didn't happen!)
After weeks of dealing with our incompetent provider we have finally got the email address reconnected however I am unable to get it to work on any of our devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 3, or home laptop). The account is definately active as emails are accessible through the providers website. The email address is an "additional mailbox" to the primary mailbox connected with the adsl.
The email address worked fine on our devices & laptop prior to the disconnection.
With the reconnection our provider advised we had to change the email settings to now be a pop3 account and provided the relevant details regarding servers, ports etc.. These details are exactly the same as the primary email address I have set up on all devices and which works perfectly.
I have tried deleting the account and re-adding, I have rebooted the devices and have double triple checked the settings. Still nothing! I just receive an error message saying "cannot get mail. The username or password for "pop3.xxxx.com" is incorrect."  Though, I know the password is correct as its the same one we use to log in to the mailbox on our providers website and access the email.
Would anyone have any insight as to why only this particular email address can not be added to the devices "mail app"??  I love the ease of being able to just tap the mail icon and see all my different email accounts. I'd prefer to not have to manually login to our providers website to access mail on one account.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

When originally purchasing the phone I was assisted and directed to set up my Gmail account through Exchange because it had the ability to use "ActiveSync" and push not only mail and calendars, but all of my contacts as well.     What it came down to was having to delete my Gmail via Exchange account and separate it into two different accounts, a regular gmail account for my mail and a CardDAV account for my contacts.
    Here is what I did. Google is changing their system and for new registrars Exchange ActiveSync will not work so you will be unable to register your account via Exchange and have your mail, calenders, and contacts all pushed together. I find this change really annoying. If you are having problems accessing your contacts after deleting the mail account, like I was, here is the work around.
    To circumvent this issue go to Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDAV Account: Under server ender google.com, then your email user name and password, then click next to verify the information.

    Have you tried deleting the account and re-adding it on the phone?
    What version of Exchange server are you running?

    I have Yahoo mail (POP) account.  Mine is working fine at present.  I do occasionally get asked for password while sending mail.  I have had your issue in the past and it usually clears up in a few hours.  Sometimes I sign out and then back in and it starts working again.

    You can try deleting and recreating the offending email account on the ipad.
    But first, have you tried a restart? Hold down the sleep and home buttons until the apple logo appears on the ipad screen.

    It might be worth a shot to reset your router first. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again. Or try any other WiFi network and see what happens.

    The adware comes in on my sub account (almost hourly), it is always on top of my Inbox. It's funny I can send and receive from my sub account, just not my main account.

    If you delete your mail account from your iPad you won't lose your address. I've deleted and re-added my mail account several times.
    It'd be the same as.....I have a favorites list for a website. I can delete that favorites list, but the website is still out there. I just need to retype the address. Same thing with the mail.
    The worst that'll happen is that you'll have to redownload your mail onto your iPad.
    Who is your mail provider? Are you accessing it via their app (for example the yahoo app) or are you accessing it via safari or via the iPad's mail app?

  • Exchange synchronises all folders but Inbox error Cannot Get Mail Server Error!

    Initially I lost the inbox of my IPad running IOS 5 with my iPhone 4GS  continuing to sync with my Exchange Server 2007 however changing mail setting on my phone has now stopped that working as well and I now have lost access to remote mail altogether.
    I can still send mails from my Ipad and Iphone though if I send to myself they do not appear in the inbox but do appear in the Sent items.
    If I delete mails they appear in deleted items
    I have upgraded my  IPad 3 to IOS 6 which has not changed anything. I have also tried an IPad 2 and that does not like my mailbox either. Tonight I created a new user on the server and sent mail to that mailbox. I set the settings on the IPad and the Inbox and other folders worked with no issues.
    This problem started 2 weeks ago and before that I have never had problems with IOS devices syncing mail from my Exchange 2007 server.
    My wife has a IPad 2 that links to the same Exchange Server and she has experienced none of these problems.
    Any pointers on this would be most appreciated.

    OK, we fixed my boss' iPad issue.  We are using Exchange 2010.  Somehow, there was an issue with the device association in his Exchange account.  We had to remove the device association from his Exchange account, delete the account from his iPad, then re-add the account..  He is now syncing again.
    You may be able to remove the device association in OWA.  Let us know if this works for you.
    As to the cause of the issue, it is still unknown.

    I have a new iPhone with 1.1.2 and have this same problem. My Yahoo mail is set up correctly, and I can send mail from the mail client, which shows up when I check my 'sent' folder on yahoo using the browser interface from my computer.
    I can't check mail - I get the "The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect. Since I can send email from the iphone, and then see what I sent on both my work email and in my 'sent' folder, it's not a user or pw setup problem.
    I tried turning it off and on and that didn't do it. I have a free yahoo account, so I believe I have to use the Y! option.
