Email Filtering

Can someone please help? I just purchased the Blackberry Curve 8330 Smartphone. I am trying to filter my email so I quit getting so many junk mails on my phone. I searched this site and it tells me to highlight an email message, click the menu key, go down to options, then to email filtering. The problem is when I go to menu, then options, the only choices there are general options, email settings, and email reconciliation.I have looked under all these options to see if maybe the email filter option is in there and cannot locate it under any of these options. Could someone please tell me how to filter my email and where I can find the options to do so? Thanks, Debra

if you are on BES (corporate device), use the Desktop Manager to create the email filters.
if you are on BIS (personal device), use the BIS webpage of your carrier to create the email filters.

  • Transferring Email Filters and Other Settings to a New BB Device

I will be upgrading/replacing the BB device of one of my users. He's got a lot of email filters and personal setting preferences (i.e. ring tones, speed dial, etc.) Can I transfer the settings and filters to his new BB?
I tried transferring it through the BB Desktop Mgr > Device Switch Wizard but it messed up the Messages/Corporate Email. After syncing the device with the BES he got double copy of the emails that are currently in his Inbox.
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can do a Backup of the old, and then a selective restore from the backup to the new device...
    DM > Backup/Restore > Advanced.
Select only those preference databases you desire (i.e., Address Book preferences, Speed Dial, etc.).

  • Unable to save or edit Email Filters in Comcast Email

Hi:I found a question on the board about the inability to add or edit email filters in my Comcast email account.  This was dated in May and said that it was going to be sent to the Comcast tech department for a fix.  I am wondering if there has been any progress on this?  I haven't been able to edit, update, or create email filters on my account for about 6-10 months, and I am receiving more and more spam during this period.  I've been using this account for years and am wary of dumping my Comcast account for another, more reliable email provider.  I'd love to find a way to prevent the excessive spam and to create my own filters (again) as I have in the past.  Has there been any progress?
       Thanks,  Bill Brown

I'm in the same boat.  I'm one of the lucky 53 million people who had their email address stolen in the Home Depot hack last November and now my Comcast inbox is being flooded by spam daily. It almost unusable.  I would have thought that Comcast's own spam filtering would catch these messages, but this is not the case.  I can't correctly create, edit or delete filters.  I either get error messages or an infinite saving... message.  Time to move everything to my gmail account I guess.

  • Email Filters and Sent messages

Love my new Curve 8310 with AT&T, I'm having a problem with setting up email filters, I tried to set them up with my yahoo account and now I recieve a Yahoo Alert msg that states I got a message from someone that I had already set up a filter for NOT to recieve.  I tried setting up the blackberry email service and it asks me if I recieved a password, which I did not.  How do I do this??
Also, some of my messages that I thought I sent have not been sent, how do I access my sent msgs?  I went to email options and the sent messages are not supposed to be hidden.
If anyone can help me, I would be forever grateful, my phone goes off constantly with useless emails now and it's driving me crazy@!!!!!!!

  • Still unable to delete/edit email filters

Still waiting for a solution for this problem.  Have tried three different browsers, including Firefox, IE and Google Chrome and each time when I try to delete an email filter under the preferences tab, I get an endless spinning blue circle next to "saving" and no delete occurs.  When I try to edit a filter, I get message "cannot save filters".  I spent 90 minutes two days ago with on online chat comcast rep who logged into my account and got the same result.  What is going on???  Thank you.

Same here, it has been months since I've been able to edit my email filters. I cannot add new filters nor edit existing one. Nobody at XFinity cares to solve the problem.

  • TOUR 9630 EMAIL FILTERS

My message options menu does not display email filters. How do I set up these filters then?  Why does my options list not list email filters?

Email Filters are configured in the mail account settings.
Press the Blackberry menu button then go to Setup.
Select...  Email Settings then select the email account you want to filter messages.
Once you select the account, a pop up menu will appear.
Filters is the second item in the list.  Select filters and then add / configure the filters you want to apply to the selected email account.

  • Improve Email Filters

At the moment email filters aren't useful.
You can only choose to DOWNLOAD or NOT DOWNLOAD an email.
I want it to download certain marketing emails, but without flashing the red LED.
So I am not disturbed constantly during the day by marketing emails, but I can view them at the end of the day when it is convenient for me.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Filters were a function with the BIS environment. With BB10, BIS is no longer in play, so none of the functions that it had are directly available. Rather, it's now ActiveSync directly between the device and the email server. So, you'd likely need to do something on your email server to deal with this...perhaps a rule there that moves calendar invites to a different folder, and thereby keeps it off of the BB (or, if it arrived to the BB, removes it upon the next reconciliation).
    Good luck!

  • Customizable Email Filters w/ Alerts in IOS8?

Hi, I have an iphone5s which I bought after I lost my BB10 powered Z10.  On the Z10, there was an app that let me customize alerts according to filters I could set, either according to email address of the incoming email, or things like text strings found in the body or subject.  To some degree you could do this in the OS as it came.
I have an online business for which I need to know about specific communications during the day, but don't want to be distracted by all of them.  For example, one email account might receive messages with "contact form" in the subject from my "info@[mywebsite]", and I want to hear a specific alert for this.  Another address receives two forms of communication from a specific email address (the payment gateway).  One is the daily settlement report.  The other is whenever a transaction fails. I want to play different alerts according to the text in the email -- ie, does it contain "settlement report" or does it contain "transaction failed"-- and play different alerts depending on the situation.  I also have a few customers who are volunteering to be "testers" who send feedback and others who are special cases for whom I often need to review their orders before they get filled by some other people.  I need to intercept these.. if only I could play an alert according to the text "order #" for example, or a regular expression in general.
I'm really surprised that in 2014 I could not find a way to do this in IOS7 and I'm hoping that Apple will start adding feature conducive to business. I can't imagine holding out any longer when I upgrade in a few months.  Apple if you're listening, what wins me over are features and the ability to customize.  These are so easy to implement, why not just do it?  I'm such a low-hanging-fruit easy sale if you would just copy what's been done already on BB and Android. Please support filtering according to regular expression filter syntax

  • Customizable Email Filters w/ Alerts - App Failure!

Does this make the iPhone almost useless to anyone else? I would expect after the amount of time that the iPhone has been out that the developers would have added some sort of feature to create custom alerts for emails using filters.
I work for a large corporation and use my phone as a pager to wake me up when I get certain emails or pages.
I recently purchased an iPhone to use as my work phone only to find that there is no way to do this other than an app like MailTones which requires that you forward your emails through their server which I do not feel comfortable doing. This should be a built in feature!
Does anyone know if this is going to be added, or if it is even being considered for the future?

You are correct that I should have checked into it a bit more and there are various ways around it that I can use such as setting alerts to all of the messages in my inbox to wake me up but that will wake me more than I would like.
There are others in our company using their iPhone as their work phone/pager and it works for them but I guess our group is more attentive to some of the alerts we get. If I wait long enough, these alerts can turn into a real problem and I will get a call from our Network Operations Center. I would simply like to avoid the NOC ever knowing that there is an issue. We like to fix things before they impact users.
I for for a major news company. We support the application layer of functionality that is behind everything that gets videos, stories, content, etc... to the public and onto the web or TV.
We have automated monitoring systems that send us alerts which we filter prior to getting them on the iPhone. So even being able to make one folder alert differently from another would be sufficient.
I'm sad to hear that we do not have any official apple support on this forum. I was in hopes of hearing from a developer or someone of the like...
Don't get me wrong, I love the iPhone. I have a Pre as my personal phone and I love them both but it just seems that they would have added this feature by now. Also being able to mark all messages as read seems like a elementary feature that should be included.

  • What is the limit for EMAIL FILTERS?

At the beginning of my experience with VZ, I liked the idea of being able to filter my incoming emails, because it helped in putting information in place where I could find it. Through the years this feature has become less and less reliable, because it seems that some of the prior filters that I setup are no longer present? So I am now at the point of asking just how many filters I am allowed to have for this ISP? I have never received a notice of any kind that this type of change had been put into effect. If someone could answer this, it will sure help me in future usage and planning.
    Thanks in advance . . .
    {edited for privacy}

I have not heard or could find any documentation on the amount of filters you can have on your account. If the filters you have setup are not working, my suggestion would be to start by deleting and recreating them one by one.

  • Why won't email filters work on the Wells Fargo spam ?

Whenever I put any case variant of "WellsFargo" on my "From" filter, the spam gets through.
Whenever I put a filter on "Wells Fargo" within the "Body" of an email, the spam still gets through.
When I manually run the established filters on the very folder into which the spam has lodged, it is not removed.
    How is this happening ?

This second post resulted from my original post being blitzed away (and not showing as a tamjk posting on my profile) when I first signed it in.
The whole problem arose from Mozilla's stupidly roundabout process for registering new members . . . something already commented on before by several others but to no avail whatsoever.
This "bug" that is taking years to fix . . .
    My ass.
Mozilla staff are simply reducing their workload by filtering out people who want to contribute.
And yes -- people who point out flaws in Mozilla products are contributing.

  • Help with email filters for an "alias email address"... Please!!

    Hello All...
This is my first post to the BB Community! I've always been able to find the help I needed without needing to post!!!
But now I have a problem that I could not find the answer to, and I am hoping that someone will be able to guide me.
    Here's the situation:
I have an email address for my business ([email protected]) set up on my Tour. It is a standard POP account.
I do work for a client, who has given me an alias email address ([email protected]) that forwards to the above address.
I want to continue to have th emails come to my Outlook account on my PC (or I can check it through webmail if needed), but I do not want these emails to come through my Blackberry.
I am thinking that I need to set up a filter of some sort to keep these specific emails from clogging up my Blackberry.
I tried setting up a filter which I called Client.
In the filter from line, I added [email protected])
And in the Action settings, I checked the button for "Do not forward message to the device"
I then sent an email to [email protected] I would think that it would not get through, but I got the email anyway.
I figure that I must be doing something wrong. Of course, there is always the remote possibility that what I am trying to do is NOT possible!
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you,
    Bonni

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Community Support Forums.
OK, I understand your overall need.
IF your "[email protected]" address forward automatically to "[email protected]", then you have to understand a filter set in the BlackBerry BIS email setup does NOT see the email as coming from the @client.com address. So it will not filter it.
What I suggest is this... forget about the filters and such. Go create yourself some new gmail account for the "[email protected]" to forward to. It will be much simpler.  Much much.

  • Creating email filters

How do I create filters on my email for the iPad?  My desktop does this already but doesnt translate the filter

You can't do it in the Mail app, any filtering has to be done before the emails are downloaded to the iPad e.g. on your email provider.

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 Email Filters

Almost all the mail I receive on my Blackberry is spam. I have good Outlook filters on my desktop computer, but my Blackberry has vastly too much spam.
If this were my desktop, I would solve the problem by only viewing message from people in my address book. When I go to the Blackberry site, I see there is filtering functionality, but the box in which you place filter email addresses is quite small. My Outlook address book contains about 2,500 contacts, so if I want to limit my BB messages to my Outlook contacts, I would need to copy/paste 2.500 email addresses in this small box.
I am looking for any suggestions as to how to best limit my BB email messages to my Outlook contacts. Anyone??

Start by doing a battery pull - while the device is on, remove the battery for 30 seconds, then reinsert it and wait for the device to reboot.  Does that help?
If it doesn't, ensure that the email folder isn't just hidden.  On the homepage, press the BB Menu button and select Show All (should show a little check mark).  See if you can find the email folder.
If that still doesn't work, please let us know as there are some other things we may be able to try.
