Embedded videos won't play on any browser (youtube will, though)

Hi all, I'm at my wits end.  I have a fairly new computer running Windows 7 64 bit OS.   The problem is with non-Youtube embedded videos.  Flash has been playing them only on IE up until today, now it won't work in any browser (including Chrome).  (Youtube seems to work fine, embedded or not)  As an example, when looking at Facebook, any embedded Youtube video plays just fine, but all other videos only give me the black rectangle of doom.  I've just spent three hours following all the instructions here:  I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted the registry key in these instructions.   I've disabled ad blocking and turned off my only antivirus program (Microsoft Security Essentials).  I've tried downloading Flash Player using every browser and both 32 and 64 bit versions of the browsers.  Nothing makes the embedded videos play.  The Flash version I have is 11.6.602.171 and the little movie with the ball going by the screen shows fine, and the correct OS is showing.  I'm baffled and out of ideas.  Thanks for any help!

There must be some other people who have encountered this same problem.

  • Embedded video won't play in any browser

I have had a problem for a long time of videos on certain websites not playing on my MacBook Pro. I have the latest Lion OS update as well as the latest Flash update. I never have a problem with Youtube and most video plays fine but some websites, like for instance, news sites will not respond. I get a black screen with no controls or anythiing. Now I am having this problem with a site called MailChimp. I use FIrefox but it will not play in either Safari or Chrome. There must be some other people who have encountered this same problem. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  • Videos won't play in any browser

Just recently, videos won't play in any browser...Safari, Firefox. etc. It seems to happen with .wmv files. I reinstalled media player, but still have the problem.
    I get this message.
"Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again"

First, check that Windows Media Player is set as the correct plug in - in Safari, go to help/installed plug ins. There should be a section marked 'Windows Media Player' showing 'application/x-mplayer2' and listing wmv files (amongst others).
Sometimes these arrors are caused by DNS failures. Ensure your system is fully up to date, and enter your ISP's DNS server IP addresses (usually two of them, sometimes three) in the 'DNS servers' box on the TCP page of the Network preference pane.
The DNS server IPs are usually supplied with the ISP's initial set up documentation, or located on the ISP's help page.
The reason it could be a problem is that in many iterations of MacOS X, the system is extremely sensitive to how quickly a DNS search responds. DNS is the process whereby a user-provided URL is converted into the correct IP address for internet lookup, so if the video source is held on a different server and the DNS process doesn't return a valid IP address in time, you would then get an error of the sort you describe.

  • Have reset Firefox & completed all of steps in "Flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites", but video still won't work. Help!

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

  • Embedded videos won't play in Safari on iPhone 5 iOS 8.02

All of a sudden I can't play any embedded YouTube videos in safari from my iPhone 5. I think the issue started when I upgraded to iOS 8.02.
I can see the screenshot of the video, and the red and white play button in safari, but it isn't clickable. I can click on the word youtube in the upper right hand corner of the picture and it will launch the YouTube app and then the video will play from the YouTube app, but never from safari anymore.
I've tried closing the safari app, clearing safari history, resetting the iphone, downloaded Google chrome, and even tried to use my RSS reader to view the webpage. They all do the same thing, and none will let me click the play button to watch the embedded video.
Anyone have any ideas?  This is driving me crazy!  Thanks!

After some messing around, I found out that I can't press the red/white play button on the middle of the picture. For some reason, that isn't clickable anymore. Instead, if I press anywhere on the picture preview except for the red/white play button, then the video will play fine.
I Don't remember having to do that before, but at least I can watch embedded videos again.

  • Html export with embedded video won't play on ipad

Keynote 6.0 for Mac - when you export a keynote as html, if there is embedded video, the video will not play on an ios device.

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions..
If you didn't repair permissions after updating Safari, try that.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
Also, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Embedded video won't play in pdf

I've embedded a MPEG video in a CS3 document and made a pdf, checking all the boxes InDesign Help tells me to do (I checked "interactive elements" and "Multimedia: Embed all"). It plays great on my computer but brings up errors on anyone else's machine when viewing the pdf. What am I doing wrong?

That may be it. I hope Sony Vegas can save files as Quick Time. I
can't buy a Mac just for this . Thanks for the help.

  • Embeded Videos won't play.

I can play videos on Youtube just fine, but if I play them anywhere that they are embedded they don't work (like Facebook and NHl.com). I'm using Firefox 13.0.1, When I was using Firefox 12 everything was ok. I've tried Disabling my add-ons, running in safe mode and I've updated Flash to the latest version.

You can check for problems caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and possibly downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 - Video won't play in web browser

I've tried inserting it as a slide video and as a FLV file. Plays fine in the preview, but not after publication and pulling it up on website. In one version the skin is there, but inactive. In others, there's just nothing there. The progress bar continues to move (on the presentation skin), but no vid plays. I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome without success. Vid files aren't that big (14 and 21 KB, respectively). I've tried compressing when I publish, to no avail. I'm not yet an expert here and don't know what else to try. If you've got an idea, I'll try it. Thanks.

    Hi there
    Stoopid question time.
You *DID* know that you need to copy the FLV to the same server location as the SWF, right? (Sometimes folks think the video is included and all wrapped up inside the SWF)
Assuming the video is there, have you tried linking directly to the video? It could be you need to have a friendly chat with your web admin peeps and have them add the FLV files to their list of MIME types in order to properly serve them.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Quicktime won't play in any browser

Until recently quicktime played fine on all my internet browswers then somthing unknown happened so that In all browsers I get a quicktime question mark and nothing will play. This happens in all my browsers so that it must be something to do with my Mac. I have a Mac G4 10.3.9.

    What version Quicktime?
No question that the content is QT and not Windows Media Player, right?
Have you checked the settings in the system preferences and does everything look good?
Are movies set to play automatically? Have you tried different web sites with QT content to rule out the website as being faulty?
Have you tried to launch QT first, and then open the url from the file menu?
If not, do that first and if nothing changes, then it may seem silly, but I'd once again repair permissions, and I'd also run the disk repair while booted from the #1 CD.
Or download Onyx (free) and run it.
    Report back.....good luck!

  • Please help, video won't play in Premiere but audio will.

I have a video that was shot with a still camera that allows for short videos.  The video is 30fps, 640x480 44100Khz audio.
When I play it in Windows Media Player it plays fine.  If I import it in Adobe After Effect it play fine, but when I import it into Premiere, the audio plays fine, but the video plays like there are only 2-3 frames and that's it.  the clip is the correct length, visually.  Can anyone help?  All other clips imported fromvideo cameras work fine.
    Thanks,
    Roberto Cerini

Your clip probably uses the MJPEG codec.
