Embedding a Captivate Project into a Webpage

Hi there,
First post here so forgive me if it's excessively detailed!
Just published my project (which contains interactive
elements and flv video clips) to Flash and I have now have a folder
containing the two .swf files, the flv files, .js file and the html
file.
When I open the html file it works fine - the project plays
inside a pale green border that fills the browser window. I want to
embed the project into an existing webpage (or have a popup)
*without* the pale green border.
I've looked at the source code of the html file and I'm not
sure what, if anything, I should strip out. There is also no
reference in that html code to the .swf file (only the skin.swf
file) or any of the flv files. How does it know where to call them
from???
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil.

Hi Phil and welcome to our community
The Captivate output files are a bit like a house of cards.
All elements are critical. Here's how they pan out.
You upload all the files to your server. Normally in the same
location.
You point your user to the HTML file.
User clicks the link pointing to the HTML file and it loads
up into the browser.
The HTML file looks for the standard.js file. Assuming it is
found, more code is added to the HTML file.
The MainMovie_skin.SWF is then loaded into the browser
window.
Internally, the MainMovie_skin.SWF knows to look for the
MainMovie.SWF and it loads up.
As each slide pointing to a .FLV is encountered, the .FLV is
loaded at that time and plays.
As for embedding into an existing page, you will need to sift
through the code for the Captivate created HTML file for clues. Are
you using a Web Development tool such as Dreamweaver, FrontPage or
Expression Web designer?

  • Embedding gigapan panorama's into a webpage

    Hello all,
I'm having a little issue with embedding a panorama hosted by Gigapan into my webpage. I can successfully use this chunk of code to embed it:
    <iframe src="http://gigapan.com/xxxxxxx.html" frameborder="0" height="400" scrolling="no" width="100%"></iframe>
I want to be able to zoom in and out of the panorama with the mousewheel WITHOUT simultaneously scrolling up and down on the webpage itself. Does anyone have an recommendations? I thought of maybe using onmouseover to lock the webpage from scrolling while on the panorama but couldn't find a way to use onmouseover in an iframe.
Also I fully acknowledge that I am a huge noob
Thanks for your help in advanced!

  • Embed HTML5 Project into Webpage

Is there a way to embed a published HTML5 Captivate project into a webpage such as a Wordpress post? I have tried loading all the files to the server and then using an iFrame. The results are not great. There must be a way to embed the project directly.
    Thanks for you help.

    Hi Mark,
    This is how I did.
Publish my files selecting SWF and HTML5 output for example without compressing the folder. Let's say that the name of that folder is "mycaptivatefile"
Use filezilla for example to upload those files in your website. Let's say that your project will be located at a sublevel of your site named "examples" "www.yourblog.com/examples"
Once all your files are uploaded you have to use the <iframe> code to embed your content in your site this way:
    <iframe src="www.yourblog.com/examples/mycaptivatefile/multiscreen.html" height="675" width="100%"></iframe>
Adjust the height and width according to your needs and that's it. This is the way I did it in my wordpress.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error While Uploading Captivate 6 Projects into Oracle LMS

    Hello,
We have recently updated our Captivate software from Captivate 5 to Captivate 6. We are now experiencing issues when uploading our Captivate projects into our Oracle LMS.  We are unable to upload newly developed courseware as a result, and have many critical learning initiatives with deadlines coming up within our organization.
We receive the following error when uploading published Captivate 6 files into our LMS:
    Oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Element ‘appearance’ not expected.
The Log states: “The operation could not find a learning object with the external identifier: and external source: . A new learning object named How to insert an image into Microsoft Word with id 2824 has been created.
The language en-US is not compatible for the learning object named How to insert an image into Microsoft Word (id: 2824). The language will be set to American English.
The import process has failed: oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: Element 'appearance' not expected.”
When contacting Oracle, they directed me to contact the vendor and inquire if they have resolved their UNIX issues and corrected the imsmanifest.xml creation piece of the tool.   The  Captivate 6 software on my PC is up to date with the newest patch installed, and I have tried publishing courses with different combinations of preferences and settings and none seem to resolve the issue.
Any insight as to what is causing this error or what can be done to correct it?
    Thanks.

The error message makes me think the LMS is looking for an MS Word document included in your SCORM manifest file.  Some LMSs are very strict about all files in the course needing to be listed in the imsmanifest.xml file.
Do you have a document in the package that the users need to read or that is linked in some way to your course content?

  • Embedding a Captivate 7 SWF into a Captivate 7 project causing error "R6025".

    Good day,
I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and how it was resolved (if at all).
Recently, one of our clients contacted us to request we resend a source file (originally built with Captivate 6) due to perceived file corruption. Upon investigating, the file will open correctly on the PC used to develop the slide initially (using Captivate 6), but will crash and cause an error when Captivate 7 attempts to open the file (tested on multiple systems).
The problem file(s) are a parent single slide Captivate project which contains a single slide quiz (which is published out as a SWF and embedded in the parent).
To resolve the issue we figured that recreating both slides in Captivate 7 would be easiest solution. After recreating both from scratch, the same issue occurs. The project can be opened without issue on the development PC with Captivate 7, yet crashes when any other PC with Captivate 7 attempts to open the source file.
Here is a screen cap of the error message which pops-up during the Captivate 7 crash.
Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?
    Cheers and thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi Lilybiri,
Yes, this slide has an CP-Published SWF in the CP-file. This procedure was used on multiple projects without issue. It only appears to have become an issue when Captivate 7 is introduced.
With respect to not having all of the slides in a single project; this has to do with the design of our client's product and the requirement to have every slide be its own project file. We have discussed the merits of not using this approach, but they expressed a reluctance to change the approach (there are internal aspects of their organization at play which we are not privy to).
I am guessing the best bet will be to re-design the approach on this particular problem slide then?
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • How to playback an embedded swf in a Captivate project

    Hello,
I generated a swf file from one captivate project and am embedding it into another.  When I play back the slide that has the imported animation the playback from the slide and the imported swf are different.  If I pause the main slide playback the swf continues and vice versa.  How do I get the playback of the imported swf file to be controlled by the main playback controls?  I am using Cpativate 4.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi there
I'm hoping one of the Captivate team members picks up on this one and either confirms or denys my findings.
It is my understanding that one cannot control the other. Likely you may want to simply insert a Click Box or Button on the slide with the SWF and allow the user to move on when they are ready after having interacted with the SWF.
You may wish to experiment with the properties of the embedded SWF. There is an option called "Synchronize with project". But I'm doubtful it will work to accomplish what you want. I think what this option does is to ensure that if the timing of the slide is different than the SWF inside, it will play the SWF in its entirety.

  • Track completion of embedded swf within captivate project

I have a swf created within captivate 4 which is a traiining simulation.  Now I want to embed this simulation on a screen within a new host captivate project and enable the next progress button only when the embedded training simulation is done. What is a good way to do this?
While trying different options, a problem I am running into is the embedded training simulation does not close when all the interactivity is done even if the swf publish options are set to close upon completion.  It wants to run for a set time. Any ideas are much appreciated.

    Hi Gaspar,
Are you using a preloader for the project? If so, the default
one in Captivate waits for 60% of the project to load before
playing. Perhaps try to add the preloader if you aren't using one,
or remove it if you are to see if that makes a difference. In
Captivate 3, you can change this option in Preferences -->
Project --> Start and End --> Loading Screen.
    Good luck,
    David
Edit: I just tried this too and got the same results when
publishing with all versions of Flash - I was a little surprised to
see it even with Flash 7 exports, because Captivate has let me
embed .swf animations into a single .swf project file using Flash
    7. I'm guessing that whatever Flash "engine" Captivate uses to
create its own FMV .swfs must be Flash 8 or 9. That would be
something that would be nice to adjust - especially because of the
lack of the ability to merge .swf files into one file. I guess I'll
    send a feature request again...

  • How to add a Captivate 5 Project into RH for Word?

I have to add a captivate simulation project into my Help project, and was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible. I searched Captivate's help, and they say you can with RH HTML, but I am currently using:

  • How do I embed fonts into Captivate projects?

This question came up in May 2006 but was never really
answered. I'd like to know how to embed fonts into my Captivate
projects so that the output looks the same on all computers. While
the text animations are fine, the Text Caption fields are the ones
that seem to have fonts that go walkies on other computers. I know
you can embed fonts in PDFs. Why not in Captivate (unless I'm
    missing something in 2.0).

First, a tip for the forums: If you use the URL tags, your
post won't require horizontal scrolling - sorry, but I use Firefox
and entering a long URL totally blows my ability to smoothly read
the post ... you can manually add a text link by using the "L" tag
as shown below (I've put spaces in to avoid this being turned into
    another text link)
    [ L = Your Text]
    http://www.yourdomain.com [ /
    L ]
Back to your issue, Charinos. I'm glad you did find the URL,
but that thread and your problem are not even in the same world.
That thread deals with fonts in text-entry boxes (boxes for
end-user text-entry), and you are talking about text-captions, an
    entirely different object.
In fact, if you make changes and save those changes to a
text-caption, then publish the project, the fonts in your text
captions will remain stable and are not dependent on the fonts
installed on the end-viewer's machine. The reason is that when the
SWF is compiled, the text captions are converted to images and so
long as the file is viewed as intended in the HTML document - at
the proper size - the stretching you describe cannot take place.
I'm not saying you are seeing things, but if my understandings of
the Captivate machine are correct, what you are saying is happening
    cannot
be happening. Something else is going on, like a failure to
save changes, use of non-conforming text-caption boxes with a
resultant loss of margins, or something.
Sorry I'm not more help. I can't duplicate what you are
seeing but I hope someone else can help you out - I may still be
    misunderstanding your issue.

  • Uploading Linked Captivate 2 Projects into Sum Total LMS

I've been trying to upload a series of media-rich linked
projects to our Sum Total LMS. Although there are several projects,
they are linked to play seamlessly to the end user. The problem is
when each project is published, it creates its own zip file. In
order to upload the files to the LMS they must be in one zip file
or they will upload as separate, independent learning modules. I've
encountered numerous challenges in attempting the upload.
Does anyone have any experience/suggestions about:
    - Publishing each project into the same zip file
    - Uploading linked Captivate 2 projects to an LMS, especially
    the Sum Total LMS
    - Uploading a project with flash videos to an LMS
I greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide.
    Thanks!

I always link between Captivate files to ensure that my files
are not too big. I have done this many times; however, I have not
tried it when there is a quiz involved. What I do is link them
inside Captivate, publish the files (non-zipped, which you can do
if there isn't a quiz involved) and then zip them up together with
Winzip. When you load it into the LMS, you need to choose either
"Knowledge Document" or "General Document" and there, you can
choose the launch file (whatever file you want to load
    first.)

  • Embedding Captivate content on a webpage

Hi there - apologies if this is a simple question, but it's different to how I normally produce Captivate content (which is as a zipped file that is uploaded to our server with the URL placed in various locations on our site).
Our web developers have asked if I can produce some demos that we have in a version that can be uploaded to Youtube.  I've tried converting the files to avi, flv, mp4 etc but lose the interactivity.
Basically, they just want to be able to embed the files into pages on the website and they want them in the same format as Youtube accepts.  I'm not sure why they can't just embed the swfs - possibly they are too large and wouldn't look good on the screen (the files are 750x550).
    So - my questions are:
    - Does anyone know of a way to convert the swf files to a format acceptable to Youtube, but that keeps interactivity?  I have a table of contents and several click boxes throughout each file.  I lose all of this when publishing as f4v, and haven't been able to get Youtube to accept that file anyway.
    - Or, does anyone know how to embed a file into a webpage so that it is small to begin with but expands when the user starts it?  I did think we could just embed a thumbnail on the page that links to the swf which opens in a new window when clicked, but maybe there's a more elegant solution?
    Thanks!!

Hello and welcome to the forum,
If you want to keep interactivity a video format (like f4v) is not possible, you do need SWF. I'm also a bit puzzled by your mentioning the SWF to be too large, normally video formats will result in bigger file sizes. If you want to reduce the SWF-filesize you could try to choose a smaller resolution, put all the compression settings that are possible and choose a low image format. And reduce the preloader % (by default set to 100) to have the SWF played before it is totally loaded.

  • Embedding interactive documents into a webpage

    Hi there,
Does anyone know of a solution, in the catalogue of Apple Technologies, that would help achieve the following interactive « read-only » result of embedding a PDF or iWork document into a webpage? Example: http://dunod.ebrochure.fr/10-plaies-internet/netbook_dunod.php (no need to refer me back to web-based hosting solutions, I need something as DRM-safed as iBooks Author for iBooks Store, but for an author’s website!).
    Thank you

    Hi Jasmine and Fiona,
We are still have difficulties. See below the info I have been provided by our Web Services Team:
We’d already looked at the two help topics that they’ve linked to below and I believe we’ve got the correct code snippet:
    <iframe height="580" src="https://tra-opa.custhelp.com/tra_opa/web-determinations/startsession/TRAWizardv3" width="100%"></iframe>
We’ve even tried putting it in an (extremely) simple HTML page and we still get the same issue.  I’ve attached a copy of the page for your reference.  We’ll need to investigate further.
We will need to resolve this in order to move our 'wizard' rulebase into a production website.
    Thank you

  • Embedding MP3 files into dreamweaver webpage

I've embedded mp3 files into my webpage, but every time someone opens the page, they are prompted to either open or save the file.  I want the viewer to be able to play the song using the embedded player, without the prompt.

Embedded players are very old school.  And it won't work for many since they need a player and appropriate browser plugins installed on their end.  The modern approach is HTML5 <audio> which is widely supported by all browsers, including mobile and tablets.  For an example of HTML5 audio, copy and paste this code into a new, blank document.

  • Insert Captivate 4 Project Into PowerPoint 2003

I have been following Captivate's (v4) instructions to insert a project into PowerPoint (2003).
When I get to the part where, according the Captivate Help, in PowerPoint I have to open <Properties> of the box I have created in PowerPoint where the project will be inserted, and then click on "Custom" on the first line, there is no item "Custom" in the <Properties> box, see below:
Has anyone also found this and have you any help for me ?
    Noel

    Hello again
You need to make a choice here. I'm not sure what exactly is meant by what you said:
...but the file is inserted in a full page, while I just want to have a link to it...
Captivate content may be inserted into the body of a topic. Once there, it appears along with other topic information. You may also import the HTML page Captivate creates for you. To do that, you would click File > Import > HTML page. This would allow you to create a link in the TOC or the Index or from the body of a topic that would link to the full page.
If you wanted to link directly to the SWF and avoid any HTML pages, just add the SWF as a Baggage File by right-clicking the Baggage folder or in the Project Manager. Then you can link just to the SWF. Note, however, that this isn't recommended because you have no control over how the SWF looks. Perhaps the Captivate SWF is designed to present at 640x480 and when it opens in this manner, the browser is full screen. The SWF is then stretched to fill as much of the screen as it can. And that can make the quality of the SWF seriously degrade.
    Your call... Rick

  • How to pass arguments into a Captivate project

    Hello,
We use dotNetNuke (DNN) as our Content Management System. We are using tokens in DNN to personalize the screens. We have access to the uses first name and email. I would like to pass this information into a Captivate project. I have seen references in my research to using Javascript to invoke the Captivate project, but I have not found any samples of the source code, nor examples of how to use the passed values in the Captivate presentation.  Can someone validate that this functionality exists for Captivate 8 and perhaps point me to a few examples?
    Thanks,
    Peter

Sorry. I think I was a bit too vague in my answer.
And I don't know about how you are getting your token value, but that part is up to you.
Just make sure to put it in place of where I wrote "whateveryourtokenvalueiscalled".
    1.
create a variable in cp to hold your value. (e.g. holdName)
    2.
Add this inside the <head></head> tags of your page (after you export it):
    <script>
         function = getMyValues () {
              if(window.cpAPIInterface)
//assign your token value to the cp variable you created in the project
                   window.cpAPIInterface.setVariableValue("holdName",whateveryourtokenvalueiscalled);
    </script>
    3.
Back in your cp project, call to the function at some point.
For example, on page 2, add to the page's action
    On Enter:
         Execute Javascript
Then in the script window, type this to start up the function:
    getMyValues();
I hope that makes sense.  I'm not really great at explaining scripting unfortunately.
