  • How do I get an embedded quicktime file to appear "activated" w/playback & volume upon opening PDF?

    I am new to adobe acrobat, and I'm using version 8.  I am trying to insert quicktime videos in a PDF File.  I have figured out how to insert the video files and embed them in the PDF.
    However, when I save the PDF, close it, and then re-open the it, the quicktime file does not appear.  If I don't use a poster image, then it is just blank where the file is, but the file is there, and when I click on the empty space where I know that it has been embedded a dialog box opens about playing it just this once, or making it a trusted file, etc.  Then it plays, and the volume and playblack controls, along with the background, are visible. (it is actually just an audio track in a quicktime file, so nothing is playing but the audio, and the background is solid black.  I have set it up so that it stays there once activated.
    What I want is for the volume and playblack controls and the black background to appear as soon as you open the PDF file, without having to click in the blank area where the file has been inserted.  This is going to be part of a portfolio that I am submitting for a school program, so I need the person that is opening it to be able to clearly see where the file is, and see the playblack and volume controls so that he can playback the file.
    So how do i get the embedded quicktime file to automatically show up in "activated" mode, with the playback and volume controls visible and ready to be used?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks...

    If the video is only linked it would reduce the file size of the pdf and it would make it accessible for people opening on a device (like iPad) which does not allow flash which must be installed with Acrobat to view embedded media.
    But I would recommend to send the people only a link to the PDF. I hate it, when my iPhone filled with useless stuff, if I would like to see it I could donwload, but as attachment make my space overfilled.

  • Embeded Quicktime in Safari no longer working

    For some strange reason, embeded quicktime is no longer loading in safari. I don't even get the question mark, i get nothing. The space where the Quicktime is supposed to be is not there at all. Anyone else have this issue and now how to fix it? Works fine in Firefox and Camino...

  • I received an email with an embedded QuickTime song. It plays but I would like to save it to my device so I may bypass retrieving it via email. How do I do this?

    I have an iPhone4. I thought it came with the QuickTime application but cannot find it currently installed in my phone. I received an email with an embedded QuickTime song how can I bypass the email and save the music to my device? There is no difficulty accessing or playing the music.

    Thanks Michael, this truth gradually became clear to me as I experimented.
    Here's my workaround:  Label the audio track something other than music and it will sync.  It this case I called it a podcast and I could transfer the audio.
    I will be provideing feedback to Apple but I am sure it's something they must be working on.
    At the moment the only way to send an audio track labeled MUSIC to your iCloud enabled iPhone is to drag it into iTunes, upload it to the cloud, put it in a playlist, sync the iPhone then go to that synced playlist and re-download the track.  Cumbersome doesn't quite capture it.  Facepalm gets closer.
    Looking forward to seeing iCloud mature.

  • Embedded Quicktime not playing correctly in InDesign PDF - please help!!

    ok - I have an issue that I can't work out and I'm hoping someone can help - tried searching for an answer to no avail. I've just built my first interactive PDF portfolio in InDesign. I should point out that I'm a producer/editor, so my knowledge of InDesign & Acrobat is not extensive. The PDF includes some embedded Quicktime movies. The movies play normally on one of my monitors (Samsung 1680x1050), but will not play correctly on my other two monitors (2x Samsung 1280x1024) - the audio plays and the play controller appears to be working but the video area is just all white...HOWEVER...if I open the PDF and play just one of the videos on my 1680x1050 monitor first, then all videos play correctly on all monitors. Have tried opening the PDF on another desktop and the movies do not work (in the same manner as above)- also tried on my laptop and the movies play correctly. Please help if you can - I need to get this out to clients and I'm baffled!! Thank You!

    Is this a Yosemite issue? Not being able to play older QuickTime 7 files properly? Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of  "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
    1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
    2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
    3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
    4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
    5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
    Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file.

  • Export recorded slideshow, with embedded quicktime, to quicktime...

    ...doesn't capture the video.
    I'm trying to export a Keynote '09 presentation, with recorded audio. The presentation also contains embedded quicktime video (a screencast). However, the resulting exported quicktime does not run through the embedded video (the initial video still is shown throughout the whole narration of the screencast). I'm using the "recorded timing" playback.
    While its exporting, the Keynote preview actually shows screencast playing fine.
    The embedded video plays fine when I export without the recorded audio.
    Any idea what might be happening here?

    Well i just found this and tried it, it worked
    1) Go to export to QT as usual.
    2) Click the second drop down (Formats) and select 'Custom...'.
    3) A new window will pop up, click the 'Settings...' button.
    My 'Compression Type' drop down was set to 'H.264'....I was told to
    4) Change the 'Compression Type' to 'MPEG-4 Video.
    (I do not think it is related to the fix being suggested or just as a preference, I was told to slide the Compressor - Quality slider on the bottom left to 'Best')
    5) Click the 'OK' button on the bottom left
    That window will close.
    6) Click the 'Next' button and continue with your export.
    Not sure why this works but it did. But i still cant do it the normal way.

  • Embedding quicktime movie???

    hi, i'm struggling to load a .swf with an embedded quicktime

    the loader works but the sound in the embedded mov starts

    this is the code on the 1st frame of the original SWF to load
    the SWF with the embedded .mov:
    stop();
    loader.autoLoad = false;
    loader.contentPath = "graphics/sponsjan_clip.swf";

    // loading does not start until load() is invoked
    loader.load();

    Thanks Daniel. Your suggestion was correct.
    In order to access the quicktime movie file I had to use the following path:

    Khosro,
    My guess would be that the path to "sample.mov" is different depending on
    whether you access
    the page directly or the portlet is included within the overall Portal
    page.
    As an experiment, try changing the URL to an absolute path, or copying the
    file into the same location as your other portal resources.

  • Problem embedding quicktime files

    Hi,
    I run a website with embedded quicktime files at www.tubespot.com. I have a problem viewing the quicktime files using Safari. The page seems to work fine on any other web browser.
    I copied the code for the <object> tag and the <embed> tag straight from trailers.apple.com. And in Safari, if I refresh several times, eventually it will show the video. This is true on any of several macs running Panther and Tiger.
    Also, when I put forth just the <object> tag it works every time. But in the context of my site, it often doesn't show up. I've tried playing with the tag specs to make sure there's way more than enough room, etc., but I cannot seem to make it consistently show up.
    Can anyone look at the code and offer any insight to the problem? Is anyone able to reliably see the videos using Safari?
    Thanks,

  • Get Embedded Quicktime Files to Load LAST?

    This is a long standing issue for me and I haven't been able to find a solution.
    Is there a way to force embedded Quicktime media to load last on my iWeb created pages? Often, when I have an .mp3 or worse, an .mov; a few of the page elements load on the browser screen, but then the movie file loads and, until it is fully loaded, the rest of the page elements do not.

  • Export embedded quicktime movies to html slideshow?

    I'm trying to make an html slideshow of a keynote presentation that has embedded quicktime movies. The movies just get saved as single png images. Is there a workaround or something obvious I am overlooking?
    Since iPhoto lets you do this, I would assume it isn't impossible, but perhaps it just isn't implemented within keynote (which seems kind of backward).

    Thanks. I was afraid that was the case, but a former apple VP suggested I ask since there are many apparently undocumented features (and iPhoto/iWeb can do this, so the api exists).
    The relevent html code is actually a java script that loads an array of exported png files. Each element of the array is defined like this:
    images[2] = "mrnahh.html_files/mrnahh.003.png";
    so I tried just telling it to load a mov file instead, but it wasn't so easily fooled. It might be easier for me to make a slideshow of the png files and mov files within iWeb (which really makes messy html and javascripts that are next to impossible to hack.)
    Anyway, many thanks. I'll leave this open for now in case someone else knows a simple secret.
    The HTML export feature is great, and produces nice clean simple interfaces and web code. I hate to abandon it.

  • Keynote does not support exporting with embedded Quicktime Movies

    I hope this helps a few of you out before you run into this problem.
    Keynote does not support export to Quicktime with any slides that contain a quicktime movie.
    Created a 27 page slide show with transitions, music, narrations and 6 Quicktime movies (Actually LiveType Text scrolls)
    When I attempted to export it never finishes the export cutting it short after about 20 pages.
    And the pages with the movies, don't start playing.
    It exports fine as a quicktime movie without the movies inserted though.
    Spoke with Apple Support and they confirmed that quicktime placed files within Keynote playback is only supported from the native Keynote Application.
    I read somewhere on this board that it was an issue with Quicktime version 7.5, not so as I tried the same test on a mac with Quicktime 7.42 and it had the same issue.
    So, beware.

    Maybe I didn't understand well what you said but it is possible to export a Keynote file with embedded Quicktime movies to a quicktime movie. Actually, I'm doing it and I works. BUT, the issue I get is that I can't get my embedded videos to loop. Grrr...

  • Embedding Quicktime On Website

    Hey,
    I'm working on a website that involves embedding a few movies I've made as quicktime files.
    Here's a link to the site so that you can see what I am talking about:
    www.nathan.onemightymyth.com/movies
    I've set it up so that when the person clicks on the link to the movie, a small pop-up window opens, and the movie loads in that window.
    The problem is, for some reason quicktime doesn't seem to want to load right away. Usually, when I watch movies online in embedded quicktime files, the player shows up, even before the video is loaded completely, and you can watch the download progress on the little slider bar.
    For some reason, on my website, quicktime will not open until the file is completely downloaded.
    I'm not sure if this is an issue with the script, or with the format I use when I create the file?
    Here's the script I used:
    <embed src="http://www.nathan.onemightymyth.com/movies/station/Station.mov" width="300" height="216" bgcolor="#000000" autoplay="true" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" type="video/quicktime">

    Thanks for your help. We're getting somewhere.
    I've replaced my code with the correctly one, thank you very much for bringing that to my attention, QuickTimeKirk.
    However, I can't seem to find the "Fast Start" feature when encoding my quicktime files.
    I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro to encode quicktime, but am willing to download any programs that do have this feature.
    I've posted a message on an adobe forum asking if anyone knows anything about this "fast start" thing. So maybe someone will answer that for me, but if anyone knows where I can find this feature, please let me know. Thanks again.

  • Embedded QuickTime Player - Behaves STRANGELY ?

    I'm embedding QuickTime (264) videos that run at about 1 mbps. Which is fine for most broadband, but occasionally a connection is too slow for even this fairly modest data rate.
    I'm frustrated by how QuickTime behaves when it can't download fast enough. Instead of pausing the video and resuming it once enough of the stream has been buffered, it either:
    A) pauses the video, and never automatically resumes it, even when the whole video is downloaded, or
    B) restarts the whole video from the beginning
    Is this normal? (I can't imagine it is). Are there parameters for dictating how buffering/playback should behave? What am I missing? Every other modern streaming format/player handles this type of situation elegantly. Why can't QuickTime?

    The feature known as progressive download isn't an exact formula but rather a "guess" based on the data rate, file size and connection speed of the visitor. If it guesses "wrong" the player should stop playback then resume (at the place it stopped) as enough data has been downloaded.
    The viewing machine has the option of telling QuickTime its connection speed (QuickTime Control Panel) or using an "automatic" setting. If those settings are too high then your file will begin playback prematurely.
    Lots of other variables can cause troubles, too. The speed of your server as it sends the file. Bandwidth connection overloads caused by traffic.
    Even the file itself can "fool" QuickTime. If your file starts with 2 seconds of black and then low action scenes then switches to more data intensive info the progressive download will probably stutter.
    Your file data rate would be excessive on my connection speed and dial-up users may have to wait 10 or more minutes just to see the first frame.
