People keep showing off their fancy icons in texts but I can't work out how to get them. I've downloaded the emoji keyboard but can't get it working. Has Sony restricted us to the xperia keyboard with its standard smileys?

I guess you referring to emojis. Xperia Z1 supports emoji in the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update.
Connect your phone to a computer and see if you have an update available for your device:

When it comes to the 3rd party keyboard you have installed, it will only work in apps that supports emojis and your keyboard.

Emoticons Will not display with new version

Downloaded the new version, and now the (finger) and (wtf) emoticons will not display. Every single other one does display. Why is this happening? I have tried restarting my computer, and redownloading Skype itself. Is there any way to fix this? I know I have the emoticons display on because every one BUT those ones work.

These hidden emoticons indeed got removed with 6.14 because of them or their shortcodes having the potential to offend some users. How do you add downloaded smileys to the emoticon page in the text message

Hi:
I just got a Blackberry Q5 and am still figuring out how to use it. I get how to access the smileys in the emoticon menu of the text message, but I downloaded some new smileys and was wondering if there's an easy way to load them up, instead of existing the text message, loading the downloaded smileys, copying and pasting them, and then returning to the menu. It seems like a lot of effort. Like, what's the point of downloading smiley's if it's this hard to use them.
Does anyone know how? Thanks.

You can set the destination of downloads in your browser's preferences. For example, in Safari, on the menubar, Safari > General tab > Save downloaded files to:
Direct them to a folder (like the downloads folder) and then put a shortcut on the dock.

Square boxes instead of emoticons in text message

phone can send emoticons but receive square boxes

I fixed this problem by:
1. Turn iMessage off
2. Turn iMessage on
3. Verify contact is in contact list
4. Deleting the text message series prior to the one you want to send. Say you've texed Bob Dole 1000 times, delete the entire thread. Then, hit new message, load Bob Dole from contacts, and send.
For me, this ended the above problem.

Iphone 6 emoticons showing up as question marks

My iphone 6 is not showing emoticons in text messages, they are coming up as question marks. The messages are coming from an IPhone 4s to my 6, the IPhone 4s did the update for IOS and that has still not remedied the issue. I should also note that I can see and use emoticons in imessages. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have been on chat with Quicken Support 3 times - each time, Quicken says that it isn't "their fault." But, I think, in fact, it is their fault. So I won't bug you any more. But in a nut shell, they have a built in PDF converter (from Amyuni) that has a copyright of 2008 in Quicken 2012. This is used to save the invoices as PDFs to a folder on your hard drive. Then you send that attachment to the client using email,. What I was told to do (in such broken English as to practically be incomprehensible), was open the file and SAVE AS - which will do so using the latest Adobe software that I have on my computer. If this works (I just sent a test off to one of my clients), then I will have to do two steps on every invoice in order to assure that it can be seen correctly.

HT4976 I have followed instructions to include a second keyboard for emoticons while texting on my Ipad. It does not bring out the second keyboard nor the "globe" to be typed????

Caan someon help me find the way to be able to see the second keyboard on my texting while using Ipad?
I have followed instructions and so I have open a second keyboard for emoticons but the "globe" would not show and therefore the emoticons would not appear.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
exit disk utlity
at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

have you ever thought that the person sending the message to you is sending the emoticons as keystrokes or that emoticons selected in Yahoo mail do not translate as expected to an iphone or that embedded images like emoticons in emails do not come across as you might expect?

I used colon parentheses with the smiley emoticon which is the normal code for a smiley. It works on this forum. I used to type these in all the time on Eudora so I'm familiar with the different combinations.
I added a space after it in the system preferences/language popup and sent myself another letter with it included and it still doesn't work in Mac mail (I added a space before and after it in MacMail). but it does work in TextEdit now.
Yes, "use symbol and text substution" is clicked.
The checkbox is ticked in the replace box; in the next box is the colon/parentheses with a space, and then the smiley in the next box.

Keyboard-created emoticons not showing in Facebook since upgrading Firefox 9/12/2014. Will this be fixed? They show in other browsers.

I just upgraded to Firefox v32.0.1 yesterday, and I see that keyboard-created emoticons like smileys (colon +right parenthesis), winks, hearts, etc. are not displaying in Facebook on status messages or comments. This isn't just for new posts, but for old posts as well. They were visible before the upgrade, and now they are not. I believe this is a Firefox/Mozilla issue, not a Facebook one, as I just checked Facebook on two other browsers (Google Chrome and Internet Explorer), and the emoticons do display. Is this something you can fix soon? Thank you.

If you hover the display:none; line then you will notice a check box that allows to disable this rule by removing the tick.
I'm not sure why it shows this display:none rule.
It is possible that a script that is supposed to process these lines isn't running (I see several data-xxx attributes that are usually there to be processed by a script).
It is also possible that there is a problem with the cookies or that a different setting is used.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I added the new Emoticon to my MSN emails system.

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

How do I add an additional emoticon keyboard to my iphone if I download the emoticons as an app? Since I already have the emoticon keyboard added that came with my phone, it seems I can't add more emoticons.

I, too am having this problem. I really like using emoji's in my Notes, but can only use the already-included version only. There are a ton of them out there, which to my knowledge are basically the same, but there is the odd one that I would like to use, but they do not work. I hope that there will be an option added where you download a certain one and it will show up in your options that you can select them to use~ a million language ones it seems like, but only one emoji option. Please fix and make an option on choices for various emoji keyboards that can be used.

Putting emoticons in Apple's eMail program

Does any one know of any utility that I can use to put emoticons in an email being written by Apple's standard email program?

The Mail.app preference file (which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences) is located at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
All Mail.app mailboxes and other data is stored in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
With the Mail.app quit on the new hard drive, place a copy of the Mail folder from the old hard drive at Home > Library on the new drive. If there is an existing Mail folder at Home > Library, this will replace it.
Place a copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file from the old hard drive at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive. If there is an existing com.apple.mail.plist file at Home > Library > Preferences on the new hard drive (and there should be one if you have launched the Mail.app on the new hard drive), this will replace it.
Launch Mail on the new hard drive and the Mail.app should be completely restored or identical to the Mail.app on the old hard drive.

Skype Emoticons? Is this real or virus?

A colleagues skype sent me above message and I thought he asked me to download it as I was just skyping with him and it popped up in the middle of our conversation! So I downloaded it thinking he sent me and voila, now I have some funny emoticons on the right panel of my skype screen and the above Message keeps popping up in ALL my conversations with people!
Help me to get rid of it please! i contacted Norton Antivirus customer service and they did some thorough *wash* but this thing still is there! And cannot be uninstalled either from program!
