Empty folder in iphoto - where r my pics?

OMG!  Just openend iPhoto and in many of the foldes the pictures have just vanished??  What´s going on?  No one has been in the computer except me - the pics were there yesterday??

If the photos are missing then restore from your back up.
Or try and rebuild the database.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Destination folder in IPhoto for pictures from iPhone

How can I change or set the default folder in iPhoto where I import pictures from my iPhone4.

This is a long shot but try this:
1 - go to your System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of your MMe account.
2 - try logging in with a bad user name and password to clear the caches.
3 - now log in with your correct user name and password.
4 - launch iPhoto, select your MMe galleries one at a time and click on the publish button
5 - check your online galleries to see if they can not be viewed.

Add new photo to existing calendar folder in iPhoto
I am making a calendar in iPhoto, picking photos from a folder, let's call it "2011 Pics," in iPhoto. After arranging all the photos and captions I decided I wanted to insert a new photo -- one that was not in "2011 Pics." So I inserted it into the folder, but the picture does not show up on the scrolling menu of pictures at the left of the calendar-making page. This happened last year and in frustration I started all over again. But surely there is a way to add a new picture to a calendar that is already laid out.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

    Hi shldr2thewheel,
it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
Sincerely in need of help once again,
    Kim

  • Moving pics to a firewire drive - how do I tell iphoto where they are

I moved my photo library - like 2500 images - to a firewire drive to preserve space on the system drive. Now when I boot iphoto it shows only an outline of each photo. I want to know how I tell iphoto where my pictures are located, without having to do that every time I boot the app. or without importing them again, which would make a copy in the system folder again. YUCK! Help please!

Now when I boot iphoto it shows only an outline of each photo.<<<</div>
First of all, it appears that you did not move the library correctly. It MUST be moved as an ENTITY. Don't even think about opening up the library and moving parts of it. If you made a mistake here, you need to undo that mistake before you proceed.
Be reminded that a drag to a different disk is always a copy so initially iPhoto will still access the library in the ORIGINAL location. Eventually, you want to trash that library but, before you do, you should check out the one in the new location. You need to tell iPhoto where to look only once. Hold down the Option key while starting iPhoto and, when you see the menu, direct it to the new location. Check everything out and, when you're satisfied, trash the library that still exists in the old location.
By the way, once iPhoto "knows" the location of the library, ALL imports will go there. Period.

  • I want to move pic's in a folder from iPhoto to a flash drive. Everything I've tried allows me to "copy" the contents of the folder, but when I access the flash drive it does not allow me to "paste".  What do I do??

I want to move pic's in a folder from iPhoto to a flash drive. Everything I've tried allows me to "copy" the folder but no "paste" to the flash drive.  What do I do?  What am I doing wrong??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your USB drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write on disks with NTFS. To fix this:
    1. Use an app like Paragon NTFS.
    2. Format the USB drive in another filesystem like "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", "MS-DOS (FAT)" or "exFAT" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Make a backup of your files on the external disk.
After doing that, you will be able to copy your photos to the external disk. Note that you can also use the Export feature in iPhoto to get more export options

  • Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.

  • Moving pics from folder to iPhoto?

Since my drag and drop is not working can I move pics from a folder to iPhoto without it? I have managed to navigate to iPhoto for uploading pics on eBay or Craigslist, but I have to have them in iPhoto first as I can't seem to navigate to folders I have on the desktop. I usually just drag pics from folders to the desktop for uploading as that seems to be the easiest method without massive navigation skills. lol Or must I just take pics again? I deleted them from my camera for more room after importing them to folders.

I'm happy that worked for you!
And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding in Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

  • Trying to restore photos from external drive and realized TimeMachine had been turned off.  Found in Imac backup folder in iPhoto library a modified folder with many of the missing pics.  Can I restore these?

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac.  After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore.  In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year.  To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period!  Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos.  So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on.  These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine.  But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified.  This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April.  Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage?  If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
    Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • Hi - When I am selecting my screen saver I want to select a folder in iPhoto - How ? I dont seem to know where to find the folders ?

Hi - I am trying to set my screen saver. I want to use a folder in iPhoto. How ? Beats me.

On the right-hand side of the screensaver dialog box there is a SOURCE option.  Click on that and choose the CHOOSE FOLDER option.  You can then navigate to your iPhoto folder.

  • I am having the DCIM empty folder problem ..

The folder first showed that there were random folders with some pictures in them so I transferred them (the DCIM folder) (transferred to my computer), but there was only about 1/10 of my pictures that showed up.. now it says that the folder is empty after transferring the pictures that did show up. Where are all my other pics and how can i get them to show up? I have tried everything listed on other posts with same problem but none of the  solutions worked for me >.< My girls have filled the iPad's storage with video and pictures and I am trying to clear them out as there is NO storage space left -- without deleting the vids/pics!

also forgot to add that on the iPad under photos it says there is none, but under Albums that is where the other pics are on the iPad.. does that make a difference about them not showing up in the DCIM folder?

  • Can't empty trash in iPhoto 9.1.1

At some point, probably since upgrading to iPhoto 9 ('11), I stopped being able to empty the iPhoto trash.
When I bring up the trash album, it shows the number of items in the trash (currently up to 2300), but there are no photos listed. Clicking Empty Trash from any of three places - inside the trash folder, by right-clicking on Trash, or under the "iPhoto" menu - all do nothing except generate a system beep.
Deleting new photos makes the number of items in the Trash increase, but it seems like iPhoto thinks there's nothing in the Trash.
I tried to figure out where iPhoto stores Trash info. The best I could find was /iPhoto Library/Database/Albums/trashAlbum.apalbum which is modified regularly, but that's a nearly empty file (only 4KB, whereas most other "albums" are larger).
I've tried all the different recovery options (Repair library, repair permissions, recover orphaned photos, etc) 3 or 4 times each, but no change.
Rebuilding my library from scratch isn't an option. I can't lose 7 years' worth of comments and things.
    Any ideas??

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Where did my pics go ??? Transferred pics from memory card to Mac Pro and lost pics on memory card and unable to find on Mac

where did my pics go. Transferred 40-50- pic from camera memory card to Mac via  slot; lost pics on memory card and unable to find anywhere in Mac. May have gone to Open Office as Data . Is that possible and if so can I get pics back or if not so ,where could they be????

First place to check is in the iPhoto library. If the images were imported there then they will be visible in the previews created.
The physical location of image files in iPhoto is quite buried in folders within folders. So, if you want to copy them then select all of the ones needed from the previews and copy from iPhoto to a new location, preferably a new folder in the Pictures folder.
The other app that might have transferred the files is Image Capture. It would download files from cards or cameras. Launch this app and look in the preferences to see the default location of transferred files.
