Empty Project Low On Memory?

I started a new untitled project and while importing a single small mpg file, the infamous "Adobe Premiere is running low on system..." so I checked the Task Manager Commit Size and noticed it was already 2,748,484K.
Is this caused by some particular system setting or something that I can change? How is this to be explained?
Windows 64-bit, 12GB memory, i7 processor, 3.5TB disk space.

By "Windows 64" Bill means "XP 64". ;)
Cheers
Eddie

  • Low system memory issue - caused by Mail?

While I was at work, my wife was using our iMac at home, and she said that a weird error dialog appeared this afternoon that asked her to quit applications, following which the system became unresponsive.
When I came home I found that a lot of running applications were in a hung state (unresponsive and required a Force Quit) so I rebooted the iMac.
I looked in the Console and saw that at 15:39:37 today two errors started repeating at an enormous rate - something like 5000 times per second for the next 5 seconds:
      12/02/2015 15:39:36.373 Mail[226]: *** Assertion failure in -[MCSocket readBytes:maxLength:error:], /SourceCache/Mail/Mail-2070.6/MailCore/Networking/MCSocket.m:469
12/02/2015 15:39:36.381 Mail[226]: exception parsing IMAP response: trying to read/write concurrently
...then at 15:39:42 the rate suddenly decreases to only about 10 errors per second. This continued for a further 15 minutes, until at 15:55:22:
      12/02/2015 15:55:22.000 kernel[0]: low swap: suspending pid 226 (Mail)
      12/02/2015 15:55:22.590 loginwindow[797]: -[ProcessPanel(lowMem) initAsLoMemPanel] | Lo-Memory panel initializing
...then lots of errors like this:
      12/02/2015 15:55:23.000 kernel[0]: memorystatus_thread: idle exiting pid 999 [com.apple.MailSe]
      12/02/2015 15:55:24.000 kernel[0]: memorystatus_thread: idle exiting pid 1000 [com.apple.InputM]
      12/02/2015 15:55:25.000 kernel[0]: memorystatus_thread: idle exiting pid 269 [com.apple.intern]
So it looks to me like the Mail app went haywire, the Mac ran low on memory, so OS X made some kind of "Lo-Memory panel" appear to handle it.
A quick search in Google Images revealed that there is such a thing as an OS X low memory error - the exact text of which is "Your system has run out of application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using". It displays a list of running apps so you can quit them. The error looks something like this:
        http://i.imgur.com/HDplIwv.jpg
When I showed this picture to my wife she said that is exactly what she saw.
I will report this to Apple on their feedback page. If anyone has any other suggestions let me know. Obviously something that can bring down the entire system like this is not good.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Please note that if the cause is a memory leak, installing more memory will not help. That's likely if you already have more than 4 GB of memory. Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 and later. Some details may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, reset the printing system. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Impact of project.max-shm-memory configuration in Solaris 10

    Dear All,
I'm not sure if this an error or purposely configured as it is.
Current kernel configuration of project.max-shm-memory is *400Gb* while the hardware only have 8 GB RAM, and SGA_max set to 5GB (ORACLE database is 10g).
Will there be any impact in long run with this configuration based on your experiences?
    project: 1: user.root
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged *400GB* - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny -
Suggestions and advices are much appreciated.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Eric Purwoko

    Hi Helios,
Thanks!, the recommendation is 4294967295, but my SGA MAX and target is 5 GB. Will it cause problem if I put project.max-shm-memory lower than SGA?
Thanks for the link too. I guess I better put those configuration in /etc/system too.
But now wondering what's the best value looking at my SGA max configuraiton
    Best Regards,

  • I am running low on memory, 80% of memory is with iTunes...

I am running low on memory, 80% of memory is with iTunes, how do I move my itunes library to an external HD and empty space to my mac? I have 1TB to my mac, a 1TB time capsule - which has a 2TB HD interfaced to it.
I look into the files and see movies, music and itunes - all of these has my movies located in them (movies are 85%) of my itunes memory.  I am not sure what files to move to an external HD - if this is the right move to make...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

Yes you can move your iTunes Library to an External HD, however to be safe you should back up your iTunes Library Drive with another Drive.

  • Ipad air keep crashing + low on memory

Hi, ive noticed that my iPad Air keeps crashing in ordinary use. Really often Safari crashes, when many (3-6) tabs are open. Ive noticed too that device is running low on memory. My iPhone 5 never crashes and has over 170mb more RAM free when idle.
I have some print screens to show you what is the situation here.
Ipad air memory when idle : http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7327/12264936015_4d9d088efd_c_d.jpg
    Iphone 5 memory when idle : http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7381/12264936005_dac4d4b7a3_c_d.jpg
Then I open six (6) popular tabs in Safari witch I use in everyday basics,on both devices.
    Ipad air : http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7445/12265091343_4bda47553e_c_d.jpg
    Iphone 5 : http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2881/12265091253_1851bf51c7_c_d.jpg
Then I check the memory in both devices and this happens.
Ipad air memory under six Safari tabs open : http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2805/12264935955_d08c7f7bb0_c_d.jpg
Iphone 5 memory under six Safari tabs open : http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2823/12265091283_ba01493ed9_c_d.jpg
So,the ipad memory is nearly empty when only using safari with few basic websites. Normally Im using same time also Spotify with airplay and check youtube videos etc. Then the Safari starts to reload tabs and usually apps starting to crash randomly.. This is frustraiding.
So, conclusion. When I started this test I rebooted both devices, then let then be idle for 5-10mins. Both devices use "Sys Status" software to check memory.
    MEMORY ON IDLE:
    iPhone 5 = 586mb
    iPad Air = 416mb
MEMORY UNDER STRESS (Six tabs open in Safari)
    iPhone 5 = 451mb
    iPad Air = 145mb
So the iPhone 5 memory drops 135mb and the iPad Air memory drops 271mb ! Whys that ??
With this test, its obviously clear that iPad air has bad memory problems. Maybe the software update can fix this ? Or should I go to the dealer and change the device to new ?

  • Rendering and Low System Memory issues in PE9.

    Hello again.
    N.B: I am an ex-PE3 user.
I am having a few issues with PE9.
    1. My main issue is that I am regularly getting the 'low system memory; please proceed with caution' message. I have googled it and read people's suggestions, but am not sure where to go from here. I have tried saving my file under another name, but am already up to '....E' (fifth) version of the file I've been working on this afternoon. The total time of the project is only approx 45 min's, although I will say that this 'low system memory' issue seems to be worst today, as I'm adding more still photos.
    2. One of the suggestions made by Steve G on one of the forums was to make sure projects are regularly rendered. When I hit 'Enter' to render, the little render window pops up for a split second and then disappears. And I would assume from the red line above my timeline that my file is not rendered.
    3. When I switch to 'Sceneline' view, my horizontal scroll-bar across the bottom will only drag SO far (to a certain point in my project; but definitely not to the end of my project. It is really frustrating. I sometimes can fix it by flicking between Sceneline and Timeline, but I have to do this multiple times... and it seems a ridiculous way to do it.
It would be fantastic if someone could help me with these issues, please!
    System details:
    AMD processor 3.2 Ghz
4 gig RAM (3.12 gig usable)
    Windows 7 Ultimate

    Hi everyone:
    Thankyou for all your suggestions.
Sorry, Bill, but both those links give me an error message. I was all set to read them, but they won’t work, unfortunately.
What is meant by ‘page file managed’, sorry? And do you mean ‘hard disk drives’ by HDD, or does it stand for something else in this context? I’m not sure what you mean by how do I have them allocated. Again, apologies for my ignorance. I do have only one HDD, but it is partitioned.
The image sizes all seem to have a depth of 24, but vary in dimensions – I can see that some are quite large (around 3 mg in size, with dimensions of 4288x2848, for example). Is the actual mg-size relevant, or only the physical length and width?
I have tried to look at the frame size of my project, but it seems to be greyed out. In pale digits, there is 720x576 written.
Just before I sent this, I thought of one other thing to try first.
I tried starting a ‘New Project’. I then inserted just 6 still photos, for experimentation purposes. I then hit ‘Enter’ and the Rendering window came up and appears to have rendered correctly. So I then tried looking at one of my other projects (that hadn’t previously been rendered) and tried to render it. In this case, as in for the project I am currently working hard on, the Rendering window flashes up for about ¼ of a second and then disappears.
    What is going on???

  • Import created 200K "empty" projects how do I delete?

I used the export/import library process to move photos from one PC to another - used a portable disc drive for the transfer. In addition to pulling in the photos that I wanted it proceeded to add projects for everything on the drive which created 200K projects with no data. This is tying up memory when I try to delete projects of any significant number. It took half-hour to delete 70 projects. What is a better process to eliminate these empty projects? Thanks!

Delete the whole Library and re-do the import?  Sounds as though you managed to specify the whole drive instead of the Library.

  • Contribute "low on memory" and Acrobat won't redraw

I have two issues that I believe may be related.  First here's my system information
    WinXP SP3
    Intel Core2Duo E6550 = (2.33GHz)
    3GB RAM
    GeForce 8600GTS 512 MB Video
Running two 19" monitors, (at 1440x900 each)
Creative Suite Premium 2.0 (InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, IllustratorCS2, Acrobat 7 Professional, BridgeCS2, GoLive CS2Version Cue is disabled.)
Production Studio Premium 1.0 (Premiere Pro 2, Encore DVD 2, After Effects 7, Audition 2)
Contribute CS3, (including Bridge CS3, but I don't use it, I use Bridge CS2 for everything).
First Issue.  Intermittently, in both Adobe Reader 9, and Acrobat 7.0 pdf files that I have open will not display in the window properly, unless I reduce the size of the window to something quite small.  It will show the desktop in behind the window, or if I open a window on top, it shows that window even when I've moved it.
The second problem is similar, but occurs in Contribute CS3 and is always accompanied by a "Your system is low on memory..." error, until I reduce the size of the Contribute window, at which point, it is so small that it becomes unuseable.
The only other program that I have open at the time is Outlook 2007, with a couple of messages.
As this is happening, I open the Task Manager, see that there is plenty of available Physical Memory, and the CPU Usage is very low, under 10%.  I've set my virtual memory paging file to Custom Size of 4591MB.
The only way to fix it is to reduce the size of windows or close all the programs.  These two problems occur independently of each other.  Sometimes when I'm just trying to open a PDF file.
3GB should be plenty to run Contribute and Outlook, or Acrobat and Bridge.
What the heck is going on?

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have tried that, but to no avail.  The crazy thing is that it only really happens after I've been working in Contribute for a while.  Sometimes an hour or more.  Then it just starts doing this.
The redraw problem also affects other programs, that are not Adobe programs.  For example, when I open a Remote Desktop Connection to the web server where I am publishing, while this problem is occuring, the screen will not "draw" properly either.
I have a feeling that there is something strange about how Contribute, and Acrobat, and Windows share the memory, either the system memory, or the graphics memory.
Could this also be a problem caused by having both CS2 and CS3 programs installed?
    Chris

  • Snow Leopard 'error code 50', 'Low Application memory'. Help.

    Hi.
I've been facing **** lot of problems with my MBP of late, and all that I could try have turned unfruitful. I'd appreciate some help.
Problems started when I downloaded and tried to install SL update 10.6.7 on 10.6.6. It was working fine on 10.6.6. The update failed, and I received 'error code 50' very often while deleting files from Trash. Also, 'beach-balling' became more frequent, and I had to force quit applications very often because of 'low application memory' box being displayed.I also encountered the grey screen prompting me to 'press power button till shut down and restart'.
Finally, I tried a clean reinstall but the same problems persisted, and lots of applications stopped working. I could not download files from browser (Low disk space, despite a 100 GB space available on he HD) or save textedit, Office or iWork files. I did a clean reinstall again, with zero-erase option and again downloaded the 10.6.7 combo update. The 'Software Update' application failed. I downloaded the update from my browser and it was installed successfully finally after 4 system restarts, but the 'error code 50' problem still persists.
What am I doing wrong? I've been dealing with this abnormal performance for more than a month. I haven't backed up files because there is no use making a backup of corrupt system. Specs : MBP'09, 13.3". 2.26 GHz, 160 GM, SL 10.6.7.
    Please advice.
    Regards.

I tried to run the hardware test by inserting the Applications Install dvd and pressing 'D' just after the chime. It did not run. Nevertheless, the App DVD is ejected every time I insert it in to install some apps, like iLife etc. Running Disk Utility dies not work, as it says the 'disk cannot be mounted'.
I tried another clean reinstall of SL 10.6, and some of the funny stuff are :
    1. error code 50 yet again
    2. It won't allow me take snapshots, saying 'You do not have permission to save snapshots etc.."
    3. Safari cannot download files
    4. 'Low Application Memory' message box appeared a few times, prompting me to Force Quit Safari.
Could there be something wrong with the Install DVD? Though Disk Utility First Aid shows error free HD verification.

  • How to resolve the error " low paging memory"

    HI all ,
I developed a report, which is running fine in development and in quality , but when it runs on production , it shows the dump 'low paging memory'. how to resolve this , can any one sujjest please ?

    Hi,
    1) Run a trace ST05 in ur quality system and fine tune the memory consuming select queries.
    2) Discuss with the basis regarding this error, probably they can help you out by increasing some space in pRODN.

  • A rebuild removed projects from photos and put empty projects in the trash.

I'm running Aperature 3.2.4 in OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro 1,1
I have a large library of 37,000 images on an external hard drive. I have experienced a number of problems which culminated in a corrupted drive and library which I have taken several steps to repair. In an attempt to be thorough, I may be including more info than necessary, but here is my tale.
    1) There have been inconsistencies for some time when deleting photos in the camera (compact flash card uploaded through camera) when importing photos. Occurring more frequently, the photos did not get deleted when I made that selection, most normally with the unmount camera box check. This is a big deal, I adapted by checking the camera when it was unmounted.
    2) I hadn't been emptying the trash in Aperture and accumulated several hundred photos in the trash. Blame it on procrastination and no appearance of pressing necessity.
    3) My camera has developed some problems with the USB port, perhaps getting worn with a lot of use. When importing photos, the camera has recently started disconnecting during the import of photos..
    4) This has resulted in a corrupted drive directory, which I was able to repair with Disk Warrior. It also resulted in photos that were not in the Aperture library. Aperture was no longer able to see those unimproved photos, no matter what drive I was able to copy them to. I resolved the import problem by changing the file name slightly. I assume that Aperture registers filenames before importing, and if the import fails, Aperture is unable to see that the import failed. I have added those files by changing the file names, and my long term solution was to get a CF card reader.
    5) I thought that my problems were solved, but when I opened Aperture today, I got a dialog box telling me that I need to repair permissions, then another about rebuilding the library, and a whole series of failed attempts to do so with a string of boxes suggesting that I quit, rebuild, or repair, all attempts eventually hanging. Disk Warrior tells me that several plists mostly involving changes could not be repaired. After several attempts and restarts, I was able to open the library in Aperture.
    6) The left window was missing a large number of projects, but in photo view, all of the photos and versions were there with the meta data showing a path to the original projects. In the project view, all of the projects were there, but I could not open any by clicking on them. When I viewed the trash contents, there were a lot of empty projects. It was probably a mistake, but I emptied the trash.
    7) I have not closed Aperture for fear that might result in changing those paths attached to photos. Hopefully they are the key to setting things straight.
Is there any way I can undue the trash dump, or otherwise return photos to the appropriate projects? I'm talking about nearly 400 projects, so this is not a minor glitch.

I quit Aperture, which hung up while writing preveiws, so I did a force quit. I restarted Aperture while holding down command and option keys, but Aperture opened directly into library with all projects and photos intact. Oddly enough the projects seem to be in a random order, certainly a different order.
I closed Aperture without a problem
I ran Disk Warrior again, and once again there are damaged property lists that cannot be repaired. There are 9 plists numbered from
    File: "0000000002.plist"
    thru
    File: "0000000012.plist"
    all in
    Aperture Library.aplibrary/Database/History/Changes/
I opened Aperture again while holding down command and option keys, this time getting the dialog I wanted, and I'm now running Repair Library Database.
Well the dang thing seems to be hung at "Repairing Library 100% complete"
I'll give it a while, Force Quit and try again.
Any suggestions? Should I try a rebuild on the next try?

Yes, you could, because in this case you would have something like a backup in the cloud. BTW, personally I also like Flickr. Flickr offers you 1 TB (1000 GB) of free storage and automatic upload for photos since iOS 7 (it is a very attractive offer, at least for me)

  • Low on Memory?  Only using two apps?

    Hi,
I'm experiencing, increasingly, "Low on Memory" warnings from
    Fireworks
(8.0.0.777). This seems to happen when I have more than 1 PNG
    file open at
a time, but also happens when I have DW and Fireworks open at
    the same time.
In Task Manager, Fireworks can be using between 100,000K -
    300,000K memory
    when this happens.
These memory warnings are usually followed by "Internal
    Error" problems.
I notice, in some of the newsgroups, that this was a problem
    on Mac
installations, but I can't find any tech notes about it and
    I'm convinced
this is an error because I am not doing anything "heavy" in
    terms of
graphics work. My PNG files are no bigger than 10MB so it's
    not like I'm
editing 60, 70 MB high res photos or anything (god help me if
    I was...I'm
not sure Fireworks would even open!).
Is this a known bug? Anything I can do about it?
I am using a PC 3.40Ghz Pentium (R)D CPU, 2GB RAM with Win XP
    Pro. I feel
this is more than sufficient to run DW and Fireworks
    together...isn't it?
    :o(
    Thanks
    Nath.

I have no good answers for you. I have a PC with 2.GHz
    Pentium with 2GB of
RAM and mine works fine. I rarely work on files over 5mb
    though.

  • "Bridge is running low on memory and should be restarted" error

I am running Bridge CS4 on a DELL T-1650 with plenty of hard drive space.  I am having trouble with indexing / caching files.  My computer is connected to a large office server with a large amount of files that I need to be able to search.  I recieve a "Bridge is running low on memory and should be restarted" error each time I attempt to index the files on the server drive.  I have tried Purge and Cache, set the cache memory slider to max.  This is a very large amount of files (TB ) to index /cache.  I leave the computer running overnight to allow ample time, I nothing on my TB hard drive , and have 16GB of available RAM.  Any ideas?

Aha!  Working over a network is not supported by Adobe.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.
