Empty ZENworks Window(NAL) upon login-April 2013 follow-up
I know this is from an older post back on April 9, 2013, but I am still experiencing the same issue. I have troubleshooted this to no end since then, but have not come up with a solution yet. Since the original post, I have upgraded my ZENworks servers to 11.2.3a and have done the same on my clients. Sometimes the only solution I can find is to uninstall and re-install the ZENworks agent. I can't seem to find what is causing this as the issue is sporadic and not occurring everywhere.
Any ideas? I have copied the original post below.
Thanks.
Scott
There is a cache corruption issue that I am also experiencing that I believe
MU2 and now 3a resolves. I have had to do exactly what you are doing.
waiting for the early adapters to shake out the current SP before I install.

I am having periodic issues in which users report that the ZENworks
Application Window is empty upon login. The bundles are shortcuts to run
..exe files that are installed on the workstations, web url shortcuts,
shortcuts to run .exe files on a network server. These bundles will not
show up when there are or are not requirements for the bundle and does
not depend on the user that logs in. I have the shortcut for the
ZENworks Application Window in the "Startup" folder for all user in
WinXP and in the c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start
menu\programs\startup .
What I have found that works to get the applications to re-appear for
the users is to re-register the computer with - zac reg -g
https://servername .
The particulars:
ZENworks version-11 sp2
ZENworks servers - four(4) primary servers; Windows 2008R2 sp1
ZENworks database - Windows 2008R2 sp1; SQL 2008R2 sp2
workstation OS - Windows 7 or WindowsXP
Windows 2008R2 AD domain
Any thoughts on why this happens?
Thank you.

This sounds like it could be the problem we had with earlier ZCM
versions that the local db cache would get corrupt in the ZEN agent,
causing the machine to appear as if it's unmanaged. To help identify
if you might still be experiencing this, the next time this happens
would you do a zac cc followed by a zac ref on the machine and see if
the bundles come back?

1. An empty browser window appears upon startup. I can't figure out how to eliminate this problem.
2. The old Verizon buttons still appear on the desktop. If I sign in with these I get the old home page??
Is anyone one else experiencing similar problems? Otherwise, FIOS is working well.Actually none of that would be related to the service at all. The icons that are installed on your desktop simply are bookmarks to different Verizon pages. I actually removed all of that to clean up my desktop. Your issue could be due to the fact that they have changed around some webpages or where they direct people, but they wouldn't have the ability to change a saved bookmark on your desktop.
Regarding the window popping up, I honestly have no idea why that would be happening -- do you notice another program appearing with it? Does that empty window vanish after some time? That would definitely throw up a red flag for me if my computer started doing that. I am not fond of programs running when I don't expect them to. -
ZESM Client XP3 Zenworks 7 NAL
We've experiencing issues since deployment of the ZESM client onto a clean
set of Windows XP Pro SP3 HP xw4600 into a non-domain environment with ZESM
in standalone mode.
The workstations have Client32 4.91 SP5 and ZenWorks Agent 7.0.1.0. We have
two ZESM polices, one with no CD, USB access and one with CD and USB access.
On both of the policies the firewall is set to all ports open.
When a user logins to a machine one of the following can happen.
1) During the stage that NALWIN launches, applications start to deploy as
set because of force run, however during this NAL will error with
Could not configure workstation for application [Novell eDirectory
Application Object full context] (id=34822) Problem: Unable to access needed
network resource [App:INI Settings]. (D0:E)
Or other errors relating to accessing eDirectory attributes. At this point
the workstation is now broken, if a user tries to refesh NAL then all the
icons will disappear.
2) On the odd time, the login script will error with drive mappings and the
error code:
3) The workstations suffers a "Windows - Delayed Write Failed", Windows was
unable to save all the data for the file
C:\............................................... ................. The data
has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
This fault intermittent but happening during the day across the batch of 24
workstations.
The .sen policies are delivered via NAL, it appears to be linked to a change
of policy but this is not always the case. It also looks like a timing
issue/issue with ZESM blocking network for a few sec.
On machines which lose their apps, you can still access the network shares,
and in Novell Connections it still shows the attached servers.
We have a Service Request: 10496360551 with Novell, but just wondering if
anyone has seen this issue or had any ideas. This is service affecting.
On the SR it has our .sen and some debugging information from ZESM and NAL.

AdamAdam,
I haven't used the ZESM client jointly with the ZDM7 agent. However, I have some comments:
- Are you using the latest IR6 ZESM client?
- Why are you deploying two policies to the endpoints? Only one policy can be applied to a given client at a time. No merge or inheritance can happen. You can, however, define multiple locations with multiple Storage Controls on it.
- Have you tried using the ZSC client in a managed (ZESM server) scenario?
I may recommend you to also post this question to the ZDM7 support forum (if not already done), since the error messages you posted are more related to NAL/ZDM than to ZESM. Maybe someone can help you a bit more on this issue.
Cheers,
Daniel

Windows XP slow login when plugged into external network
Hi,
A about 9 months ago XP SP3 was rolled out with an image upgrade, since then there has been rumblings of slow logins when connected to an external network (eg a ADSL modem at home) but no evidence etc.
About the environment
Windows XP SP3
Novell Client 4.91 SP5 IR1
ZENworks 7
Roaming profiles with folder redirection for Desktop, My Documents.
We have just rolled out another upgrade to a number of base apps and this has come up again but with some evidence and some time for me to investigate.
What I have discovered is this:
When a laptop is plugged into an external network (I have used an ADSL network here at work to test this) the login for a user takes about 2 minutes with SP2 and about 3.5 minutes with SP3. This is done checking the workstation only box.
This happens consistently on workstations.
What I have done to narrow this down is as follows:
Removed ZENworks 7 agent. Login times improved dramatically
Installed older versions of ZENworks agent, all results the same, extra slow logins experienced with all versions tried.
Installed ZEN agent and removed Novell Client, still the same slow login.
Created a local user, fast logins experienced even with the ZEN agent installed.
Disabled all ZEN services and logged in with an eDir account, slow logins all the same.
Removed all policies from user and workstations, this made a slight difference but nothing much
Disabled ZEN, no difference either
Disabled NMAS, no difference either
Removed some IDM installer we had rolled at the same time, no difference.
Here are the timed results.
XP with SP2 on corporate network = 30 secs
XP with SP3 on corporate network = 35 secs
XP with SP2 WS only ticked and ADSL modem plugged in = 2min
XP with SP3 WS only ticked and ADSL modem plugged in = 3min 26 secs
XP with SP3 WS only ticked and ADSL modem NOT plugged in = 45 secs
XP with SP3 local user with ADSL modem = 45 secs
So it's down to the ZEN agent really, but the update to SP3 hasn't helped either.
I enabled debug logging and got the following from the log, usernames and servers have been removed:

You may want to post in the MS Forums in regards to the Timeout in that
part.
I would not mention ZCM or Client32 as that will just cause pushback.
In short, there appears to be a long timeout for the redirected profile
that extends beyond just client timeout settings.
You may want to post the the Client32 Forum to see if they have anymore
timeout tweaks.
You may be able to use the "Bad Name Cache" to pre-popate that server so
you can gain the 10 seconds w/o needing to disable the workstation service.
Perhaps the "Give Up on Requests to SAs", but I've never messed with
that before. Wait before giving up on DA may help too.
Just guessing now.

Make CAD agents to go ready state upon login
hi all,
hope someone can help. running uccx 8.0. when agents log into CAD, it always put them in not ready state. is there a way to make them go ready right away upon login.

vijayHi Vijay,
Agent State Action
An Agent State action enables you to select an agent state to associate with an event.
Agent State actions can be associated only with Answered and Dropped events. The
only valid agent states are Login, Logout, Ready, Not Ready, and Work.
To set up an Agent State action:
1.Set up a new action. See “Adding a New Action” on page 98. The Select Action window appears.
2.Select the Agent State tab, and then click New. The Agent State Action Setup box appears (Figure 49).
3.Enter a name for the action, select the agent state control from the drop-down list, and then click OK
Please refer the CDA guide for more information,
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_8_5/user/guide/cda85ccxug-cm.pdf
Hope this helps.

Empty applet windows on desktop (gnome + compiz)
Hi,
After an update a couple of month ago I'm stuck with five empty applet windows starting on the desktop (4x wnck-applet 1x clock-applet). The windows of these applets are really small and are all positioned in the top left of the desktop. This behavoir is very annoying since I have to close these windows manually each time after login. The applets that I do want start up in the panels just fine. Does anybody know what the problem is and how this can be fixed?
I use gnome and compiz.
Thanks! If you are having problems with your panel you can reset the panel to a default config by moving the copying the current panel config then deleting
cp -r .gconf .gconf.old
rm -r .gconf/apps/panel
Then logout and back in to test. -
I have a new IMAC 5k running Yosemite and when I log in I am asked a whole series of questions as to what keychain can access. How can I authorise all of these to be available upon login? Items concerned are such as "Talagent", "Messages agent" etc
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
There are four checkboxes in the window that opens. Check all of them. if they're not already checked. Close the window.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.
If you use iCloud Keychain, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. -

any ideas why most days it is trying to reregister??
ThanksLost Registration is something that I used to see now and then, but seem
quite uncommon now on current code, though I dont recall any specific
bug/fix.
Below are a couple of scripts that can be called from login scripts to
address a couple different registration issues.
Script to Fix Duplicate GUIDs.

ZENworks window logout and apps disappearing
We are experiencing an issue with our ZENworks window logging out and losing a number of available icons.
The ZCM Server (10.3.3) was restarted on Friday night to try to resolve an issue where the content of any newly created bundles was not replicating to the primary server correctly, resulting in a status of Unavailable.
The restart has fixed that problem, however this morning (Monday), we are experiencing an issue where a number of icons in the ZENworks window are disappearing and we have to re-login to ZENworks to bring them back.
This has occurred on my machine at least twice this morning.
Can anyone shed any light on this behaviour?
CheersThe issue appears to be affecting all workstations, so my guess is that the problem is server side.
I have enabled debugging on my own system, and will examine the log next time it occurs. -
When I opened iphoto this morning all my photos since April 2013 are gone. My desktop picture is still current but I can't find my pictures.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run Option #4 to rebuild the database
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library. Select the checkbox to include orphaned photos.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -
Migrate from Zenworks Windows Policies to AD Group Policies
Untill now we have been using Zenworks Windows policies to configure some settings.
We have now migrated to an AD Domain and start to use Domain Group Policies.
We have recreated a few policies in the AD, but they are not getting applied to our clients.
What is the correct way to migrate from the one to the other? This is likely due to a VERY DUMB default IE GPO settings.
By Default, IE GPO settings never reapply.
Try changing your AD IE GPO to tell it to always apply the IE settings.

I recently tried to install Photoshop Elements by CD with serial number but on the desktop appears the following message: error 1 (configuration problem) try to uninstall and reinstall. I have done this but the message continues to appear
You haven't mentioned which version of PSE. If it is PSE 13, that requires a minimum of windows 7.
