Enable as Hyperlink

So, just recently I have noticed that, when I go into the inspector and the click the link tab and then check the "enable as hyperlink" check box the "Link To" drop down pane remains grayed out and doesn't open, this is a major problem because although I can select something to be a hyperlink, iWeb will not let me open the "link to" pane in-order to link the object to the desired page on my website. So far it looks like the only solution I have found is to check and uncheck the "enable as hyperlink" check box multiple times check box until' finnaly the link to pane works again. This is getting absolutely ridiculous for me to be doing all this extra steps just to hyperlink something.
So any help one what may be causing this problem would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I am using iWeb 1.1.2
Thanks,
Regards--- jgurbisz

I just discovered that I am having the same problem. One time I was able to go up to the menu and get it to work, but now that doesn't work either. Using v. 2.0.2.

  • I cannot select the "Enable a hyperlink" in ibooks author. Anybody knows why?

    I selected a word in the document and then followed the instruction to go to Inspector and opened the Link, but Enable a hyperlink was greyed out. Also cannot type anyhing in Add Bookmark. Doyou know why and how to do it right? Thanks.

    One thing comes to mind.
    You created a text box with the words 'Type to enter text' already created within it. You then selected the text and typed to remove the dummy text and create your words. You then selected your word to hyperlink. If you use this process the check box to enable the hyperlink is greyed out and you can't use it.
    under this scenario what you have to do is, when the text box is created, select all the text and press DELETE. Once you press delete, the check box becomes active.
    Hope this helps in some way.

  • Bug: Link Inspector   Enable as hyperlink doesn't lock

    How annoying is this:
    I have a URL that I'm using in copy for a flyer that is designed to be printed, not distributed electronically. I make sure to deselect the "Enable as hyperlink" in the Link Inspector.
    But every time I move, change the point size, or edit the copy block  that the non-enabled url sits, the enable as hyper link gets checked. So you see everytime I must modify that copy block, i must select the URL and go back to the inspector and unclick 'enable as hyperlink'. If I unchecked this same copy once, it should remain unchecked. Problem is that the URL changes to BLUE and then includes an underline.
    Not very productive to have to continuously go back. But more annoying is simply trying to select the copy is a challenge because the cursor changes to a hand and then if I don't get the selection exactly accurate, a browser window pops up, creating more clutter and wasting addtional time.
    This perhaps should be catalogues as a pet peeve and bug fix, but I'm not sure where to post that.

    try it yourself.
    create a text box. type www.apple.com, the link won't be active until you deselect and move out of the text box. Once you do, the link will become active.
    Now select the www.apple.com link, go to the inspector and disable the enable as link.
    Now, go to the text www.apple.com and select it and change the font. Then deselect it and you'll see the link is once again active.
    Can you replicate this behaviour at your end?
    If your Autocorrection Preferences are set to recognize such links, wouldn't you expect them to re-activate? I would, but I don't think you have said anything about that preference setting.

  • Invisible Shapes enabled as Hyperlinks not working in Safari

    Problem: When I visit my site in Safari, the invisible shapes I created as hyperlinks are not detected.
    Site created with iWeb 1.1.2
    Published to a .mac account
    Viewed with Safari 3.0.4
    My first post... Is that enough info?
    Thank you

    From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
    Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • Can't disable a hyperlink in a text box

    Hi
    I'm having trouble with Pages '06 and how it handles text that looks like a URL. I'm putting together an ad that has a text box with some text like www.domain.com. I've selected the text and de-selected the 'Enable as Hyperlink' option as I don't want the link line to appear under the text in the printed page.
    My problem is that the change doesn't 'stick'. When I de-select the option, the text colour changes to black and the link line disapears. As soon as I click out of the text box, it reverts back to a hyperlink complete with blue colour and underlining.
    If I place text directly onto the page - not in a text box - it works as expected.
    I've tried this in Pages '05 and it works as expected. I've deleted the prefs files... any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    James

    The setting is now in the 'Auto correction' pane... and yes - it solves the problem! Thanks for that!!! Now I can manually set the link detection. Looks like someone got the 'AutoDetection' routines a bit messed up...
    Thankyou for the suggestion!!!

  • How to stop text box on iWeb page from automatically reverting to hyperlink when I click 'save'

    As far as I see, the main text box in the body section of my iWeb page reverts to a hyperlink (connecting to a file) when I click save.  I don't know how the hyperlink got activated to begin with--I must have done something, but I don't know what it was.  I tried this many times to fix it: went to Inspector "hyperlink" section, activated the text box in the page, un-clicked "make hyperlinks active" (so they are inactive), then un-clicked "Enable as a hyperlink."  That much works--the hyperlink (little white arrow in blue circle) disappears from the lower right corner of text box.  But as soon as I save (command S), the text box reverts to a hyperlink.
    If I don't click save and move around the pages, it does not revert to a hyperlink.  It only reverts to a hyperlink when the file is saved.  Why is it doing this and how to stop this from happening--how to permanently return the text box to a non-hyperlink?
    The website page is: http://www.usronline.net/USR/VedicResearch.html.  If you click anywhere randomly in the main text, you'll get a prompt to download a PDF file.  This should not be, but I can't get this hyperlink to go away for good.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Please pardon the reply delay--a big project deadline had to be met.  Now back to this work:
    Yes, the text in the oval object had a drop shadow (the oval object itself did not).  I removed the drop shadow from the text, but the image file icon stayed in the right corner of the oval object.  I deleted the text and then the image file icon disappeared.  But as soon as I typed text again inside the oval object (not even pasting the previous text) the image file icon appeared again.  I deleted the oval object entirely and simply typed the text inside the main text box itself.  The image file icon that was attached to that oval object is gone (along with the oval object).
    Still the image file icon is attached to the main text box, though.  I again tried to uncheck the Enable as hyperlink (same process as described in first posting) with that oval object gone, but when I "save" again it reverts to a hyperlink.
    Next I tried this: I copied the text from the problem text box and pasted it into another text box (outside of the problem one).  Still in the new text box with the pasted text, the image file icon shows in the upper right corner.
    I also removed all the drop shadow features from this main text box (there was one more, on some words typed in the main text box), but it is still showing as an image.
    I don't know how it became an image file, and I'm still stumped as to how to fix it (short of forgetting about trying to figure out how it became an image and just retyping all text into a new text box).
    The link you provided for "Web Safe Fonts" is returning this: "The server at www.ampsoft.net is taking too long to respond."  I'm using Arial and Georgia (Georgia only on the menu and header text) in the site, and I had verified before designing the site that these are web safe, so I had thought they were.
    If you or anyone have any further suggestions or suspicions on this matter, I'd be glad to hear them.
    Thank you.

  • How do I make a Hyperlink open in a different window?

    Hello,
    When people click my Hyperlinks they leave my website. Is there a way for the hyperlinks to open in a new window so that my website always stays open on the desktop?
    I hope that is clear?

    I don't recall the previous versions to 08, but in 08 in the inspector when you enable a hyperlink to an external page there is an option to have the link open in a new window.

  • Hyperlink does not work in the inspector

    I have been using iWeb 2.03 all day.
    I could select text and link to an external page or a page on my site.
    But now, when I select the box to enable as hyperlink, everything stays grayed out.
    If I go to a working link, the inspector box is ok.
    I just can't create any more new ones.
    What has happened?
    I already threw away the plist, but it makes no difference.

    I left the mac for a while. When I relaunched iWeb, the links started working again. Strange because I had relaunched iWeb several times previously.

  • Can I add a hyperlink to turntable ?

    I'm doing a presentation in Keynote. Have made a turntable with some pictures and when the presentation is playing, I would like be able to click on each image and then be linked to another page in my presentation. How do I do this? Has entered the "inspector"and checked under the tab where the hyperlink is but it is not possible to check "enable as hyperlink". Is this possible to do in turntable?

    Not in iMovie. You could finish your movie in iMovie (all but this).
    Then,  you can add the link in QuickTime Pro version 7.
    First you need to install QuickTime Player Version 7 if you don't have it. QT7 and QT X can coexist on your Mac. Then buy the license key from Apple to convert it to QuickTime Pro.

  • Hyperlink to an external site

    I have two sites which I created using iWeb. Currently both reside on my local hard drive in separate folders within the Sites folder in my home directory. One is a large site and one is a very small site.
    I would like to be able to create a hyperlink in the large site so that it points to the small site. When using the inspector to "enable" the hyperlink" I first tried the file option and navigated to the index.html of the small site. After publishing the large file to a folder I tested the link and it could not find the file. Strangely, the url for the file was different to what I had selected.
    So I went back to the inspector and selected the exteral page option pasting the url of the index.html of the small site that I got from Safari after opening the small site. Again, after publishing the large site to a folder and testing it I got the same error as above.
    I even tried adding the page to the location where it could not be found. Of, course I did not think this would work either but I had nothing to lose.
    Am I trying to do something that can't be done or am I missing something really basic? I must admit I am web site creation challenged and like the simplicity of iWeb. With the exception of this linking problem my project has progressed very smoothly.
    What I would like to do is eventually put these two sites on a CD to distribute to my family. Together they comprise an interactive cookbook of my father's recipes. The small site is a special "secret" recipes section that I only want to share with immediate family and not casual acquaintances.
    Thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Sue:
    It can be done but will require post publishing editing. TextWrangler, a free application from BBEdit, is a good editor to use.
    First publish each site into it's own folder. I've used Site1 and Site2.
    Say Site 1 is called PublicReceipes and Site 2 is called PrivateRecipes and it's folder will be titled the same as the html file inside that folder.
    The link, a text link would look something like this:
    Link to other site
    (change the Link to Other Site text to whatever you want it to say.
    The ../../ of the link is important as it tell the browser to go up a couple of folders to get to the file to link to.
    You would put this text link somewhere in the Publicreceipes.html file between the <body> </body> tags. If you want it to appear in the center of the page bracket the link with <center> </center>
    You may have to experiment where you put the the text link in the Site 2 html file to get where you want it to show up.
    Then mount a blank CD. Drag the the Site1 and Site2 folders to the disk. To make launching the site easier for users create a new file titled Start Here.html. In the file you should have the following:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Start Here</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <center>
    Click here to Enter Public Receipes
    </center>
    </body>
    </html>
    That file should be on the CD with the two Sites files, 1 and 2. To open the Public Receipt site then only have to double click on the Start Here.html file (or drag it into their browser window. After you've created it select it and bring up the Info window: Command-I. Then in the Open with menu make sure it's set to open with Safari or your browser of choice. That will assure that when it's double clicked it won't open with the text editor you used or any text editor.
    Of course you change the various site names and site folder names (expect Site1 and Site2) to match your two sites. I hope you're able to follow this.
    In the Link to other site code and the start Here.html portion of this post I added a space after the first and last "<"http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/TwangoTools.html" target="_blank"> Do you Twango?

  • Creating a hyperlink over an image

    iWeb is my first foray into the web creation world.
    I created a "photo page" (File>New Page>Photos) where I used the photos there to link to other photo pages on my site. The caption below each photo provides the link to the corresponding photo page. However I also wanted to make the photo image itself a hyperlink. Using "shapes" I created squares of appropriate size and placed them over the photos. Using the Inspector I turned off fill, stroke and shadow (essentially making the square invisible). Next I highlighted the box and again using Inspector I "enabled as hyperlink" with the link going to the appropriate page.
    It works great in iWeb. Once the link is activated, if i click on the photo it takes me to the appropriate photo album. However, when I publish my site and try to click on the photo using either Safari or Firefox all it does is open another window with a bigger version of that photo -- it does not jump to the link I set it to. (I made sure my invisible square was the top most layer.)
    I know certain pages (such as the About Me page) have images that are designed to be hyperlinked. Is there any way I can do this on the photo page?
    For those I may have confused with my description here is a link to the page I am talking about:
    http://web.mac.com/diverdoc/iWeb/Our%20Home%20Page/Photo%20Albums.html
    Thanks,
    Wiley

    you need to apply at least some effect to the shape
    Thanks for that! I've consistently taken the line that you can't use Photo pages in this way. This simple trick changes everything. Great stuff.

  • Hyperlinks Not Publishing

    Hi there,
    I have built the site out, using pdf's as placed objects and enabling as hyperlinks. All work fine in iWeb but once I publish the only page that appears is the splash page- and the hyperlinks are no longer active.
    I previously had a site using web host via FTP server. I have cleared all files from the FTP and am now uploading with my domain synced to MobileMe. Could that be part of the problem?
    Thanks!

    izziebabs:
    The transparent background graphic titled splash.png is overlaying the links. Try sending the graphic to the back and republish.
    Another possible solution would be to go to the Inspector/Page/Layout and set the page width to 980 pixels - that suggested by Apple so that the site would be iPhone compatible. Then you would have sufficient room to move the links to the right of the graphic without concern of overlapping.

  • Hyperlink tool in Inspector not working

    Hello. I'm building an iWeb site in iMac G4 computer. I wanted to create links from texts so I've accessed Links in the Inspector. But to my surprise I couldn't access the Enable as Hyperlink. It's locked. Doesn't let me to place a check mark and choose the hyperlink option.
    So I tried to reinstall iWeb several times but the problem doesn't disappear. Every new installation it opens the same project that I've started. Does anyone knows how to solve it? How do I perform a full iWeb uninstall ? Regards, Joao.

    Problem #1 I cannot see "Post a Question" at the top of the discussion page as mentioned in "Help".
    Problem #2 which is why I logged on:
    I'm trying to make remove a hyperlink I do not want to use, it won't go away and the new URL I insert does not connect.
    Using a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 and OS 10.4.8, these are the steps I have taken:
    1. Selected "Make all hyperlinks inactive"
    2. Selected "Enable as a hyperlink"
    3. Removed the unwanted URL and "Saved"
    4. Inserted the desired URL and "Saved"
    5. Deselected "Make all hyperlinks inactive"
    6. Saved
    7. Publish to mac
    8. Viewed site and the unwanted URL is still active.

  • Hyperlink weirdness in iWeb 1.1.2

    I'm having a strange issue (well, at least I think it is) and am hoping someone might know what I'm doing wrong or why it won't work.
    On my main/home page, my background image is one jpeg consisting of 9 squares of art (3 across x 3 rows). Before, I had the entire background image as a hyperlink and that worked fine but it forced the viewing to only be able to click on one thing. What I wanted to do was make each individual square a link to go to one of the nine other pages. So, I made a box in the SHAPES tool, using no fill and no border and clicked enable as hyperlink and referred to the appropriate iWeb page. Sound good in theory... but when I publish the page, there are no links — none of the 9 boxes acts as a link at all and I can't figure it out!
    I initially thought that maybe the links were buried (behind the background jpeg) so I used the FORWARD button to make sure all the clear overlay boxes were on top of the background image and for good measure, I pushed the background image backward. But still no luck! Any thoughts or suggestions?
    One unrelated matter, when renaming a page or site in iWeb, when it's published the URL is full of '%20%' everywhere there's a space. Anyone know if this is corrected in iWeb '08 or '09???

    Yes, it's corrected. The following is from the iWeb '08 Help viewer:
    Browsers convert spaces in page names to “%20.” To avoid these symbols, iWeb places an underscore when the page name or site name includes a space.
    You should also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
