Enabling php on this Mac OS X 10.6.6

PHP version 5.3.3 seems installed.  But when I attempt to open php pages the browser opens them as text.  It seems that I must edit the httpd.conf file to actually enable php.  I changed the permissions on the file with sudo chmod ug+rw for httpd.conf.  TextEdit still doesn't allow me to change it.  It's saying that I don't have permission to write to that folder.  I changed the permission the /etc/apache2 and that didn't  help.  What must I do to be able to modify httpd.conf and enable php support?

  • Enable PHP on osX 10.4.10

    I'm a newbie so bear with me.
    I have an iMac osX 10.4.10
    I want to run Gallery 2 on the local server on my computer to set it up.
    I used MAMP. Easy. It shows green lights for Apache Server and MySQL server using PHP 5. Great!
    Now I need to Enable PHP. I found this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107292
    "For 10.3 or later
    Open Server Admin.
    Select the Web service from the desired server in the Computers & Services list.
    Click on Settings.
    Click Modules.
    Enable or disable the php4_module as desired.
    Save the changes.
    Restart the Web Service."
    I downloaded Server Admin and started it.
    My local address is http://myname.local/
    Server Admin says, "There is no server available at the address you entered.
    All services failed to access the address you provided for myname.local. Check the address and try to log on again or contact your network administrator.
    All I want to do is activate PHP...that's it!
    The directions in the above link are NOT for osX 10.4.10...So now what do I do?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Are you using Mac OS S Server?
    You posted in the Server forum. Server Admin is geared to managing Mac OS X Server and can't help you with the client version of the OS.
    To enable PHP on the client version of Mac OS X you're going to have to manually edit /etc/httpd/httpd.conf and uncomment the lines:
    LoadModule php4_module libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
    AddModule mod_php4.c

  • HT4908 how do I enable back to my mac

    I'm not sure how to enable bac to my mac laptop. I'm not sure Icloud set up correctly.  I have a mac desktop and a mac laptop and would like to share information.  Having trouble with the icloud back to my mac set up.

    I am able to use Back to My Mac (BTMM) after obtaining an iCloud account.  To get both File Sharing and Screen Sharing to work between my Mac Mini and my Mac Pro (both running Lion 10.7.2), here is what I did:
    On both machines (or however many Macs you have), click on System Preferences --> Users & Groups
    Make sure that the email address listed next to "Apple ID" is your iCloud ID (i.e. [email protected])
    Also go to System Preferences --> Sharing and make sure that File Sharing and Screen Sharing are both checked.
    After you have changed these settings on each Mac, start Finder.  Your shared Mac icon should be visible in the sidebar under Shared.  If not, go into the Finder Preferences and under the Sidebar tab, make sure Back to My Mac is checked under the Shared heading.
    If you still have problems, try restarting both Macs.
    To use File Sharing, start Finder and click the icon for your shared Mac under Shared.  In the top right corner of the window, there is a button labeled, "Connect As..."  Click this and enter your iCloud ID and password.  To use Screen Sharing, click "Share Screen..." and enter the same information.
    I hope this helps,

  • HT4907 Password Issue when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in iCloud Preferences - HELP?

    Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have a problem enabling Back to My Mac. When I try and enable B2MM in the iCloud preferences window, I am asked to enter my Apple ID password. It says the password is incorrect, even though it IS 100% correct. I've even tried resetting my password (so that the password lives up to the latest security requirements for passwords, etc). So, it's definitely correct, and I'm able to login to my Apple account here (on this Apple laptop as well as on my iPad and iPhone)... it's not an issue when I log in anywhere else... I am only told my password is incorrect when attempting to enable Back to My Mac in the iCloud preferences pane.
    Help?
    Many thanks!

    Do these make installation of memeo superfluous? Would I need memeo for daily back up?
    From what I gather, you couldn't pay me to use Memeo, nor actually a Seagate enclosure, nor many USB only drives, (USB is not bootable on PPC Macs).
    I've used maybe a few dozen backup Apps on the Mac, and I'd personally judge only Apple's Time Machine worse than that one.
    If you had it to do all over again, you'd get a case with Firewire, one with an Oxford chipset, not containing a Green Drive, not a Seagate Drive, not less than 7200 RPM drive, & a 32MB Cache, not with a One-Button touch feature, ( not a Bus powered drive like...

  • How come in Finder, when I search "This Mac", there's fewer results than when searching somewhere more specific? Shouldn't it be the opposite?

    I have my preferences set so that New Finder windows show Macintosh HD. So when I open a Finder window, five folders are shown: Applications, Library, System, User Information, and User. As an example of the subject of my question, I opened a Finder window and typed "hp" in the search field. Four results were displayed: HP ePrint.app, two other apps that open the printing queues of HP printers, and an HTML document of bookmarks with two bookmarks containing "hp" in their names. My goal of the search* was to find a folder named "hp", of which there are two that I know of on my computer. Their locations are: 'Macintosh HD/Library/Printers' and 'Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support'—neither folder was found when searched for in "This Mac" nor when searched for in "Macintosh HD". When I searched for "hp" in the Library folder, 36 results were displayed, including the two folders named "hp". Above those 36 items, it clearly indicated that my search was conducted in the Library folder, and that I was able to click "This Mac" to search my whole computer instead. Clicking "This Mac" resulted in the same four items that were found when I searched for "hp" immediately after opening the Finder window to be displayed again. In my mind, clicking "This Mac" should at least keep the 36 items found in my Library folder to remain displayed. My reason for thinking this is because the Library folder is contained in "This Mac", isn't it? The same logic applies to Macintosh HD also; why doesn't searching there return at least the same 36 results? This phenomenon of the contained location returning more search results than the location which contains it frustrates me. When I search for something, I have to guess if it's in Library or System (if it's in one of the other folders, I'm always certain of which to search). I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, it just doesn't make sense to me why I can't find things by searching in "This Mac" or Macintosh HD. Until I got this MacBook (15" Pro Retina mid 2012, 2.6/16/256) , I was a lifelong Windows user. I love my MacBook, but this search idiosyncrasy is the only thing about it that seems inferior to its Windows counterpart. Searching for something in Windows is easier to me because locations behave hierarchically. I still like my MBP way better than any other computer that I've ever owned before, I just wish Apple would change this one attribute. If anyone knows how to make the Finder search behave completely hierarchically (when the containing location returns at least the same search results as the location it contains), please let me know. Thank you.
    *The "hp" folder search that I conducted was done only as an example of the issue that I discussed here. I knew where the folders were, thus, it was easier for me to explain the problem that was posed in my question.

  • Reader enabling plug-in on Mac OS X

    Hi,
    I have successfully created and reader-enabled a plug-in on a Windows platform (prooving that the KeyPair and certificate I have are correct).
    The same plug-in works fine too with Acrobat on Mac OS X.
    But I could not manage to reader-enable it on Mac OS.
    In the Release notes / Issues for Acrobat XI SDK, I've found this :
    MakeKey Reader-enabling Tool
    At this time, the MakeKey tool for Reader-enabling does not generate keys if you are using Mac OS 10.x on MacIntel or Windows Vista on 64-bit machines. Please check www.adobe.com/go/acrobat_developer periodically for future updates to this tool.
    And in the Tools folder for mac in the SDK in empty... I've tried with similar tools provided with 9.1 SDK but... even it SignPlugin says the plugin has successfully been enabled... it does not load...
    So... How is it possible toe reader-enable a plug-in for MacOS X ?
    TIA,
    J.

    I need to reinstall PSE9 in a new MAC. For my surprise, this MAC doesn't have CD drive. So, I need the link to download the PSE9 for MAC.

    if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-9-premiere-elements-9-direct-download-links.h tml
    and activate with your serial number.
    if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
    the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
    failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

    Where are the files for the Backups that show up in About This Mac - Storage?
    My new Macbook Pro 13 retina has 1TB flash drive. But despite my TimeMachine being in a TimeCapsule my Macintosh HD shows 277 Gb of space has Backups. What is this for? How can I delete it?

    OS X Lion and newer Mac OS X versions create local snapshots in portable Macs if Time Machine is enabled. See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
    You don't have to worry about. They are stored in a kind of volume named "MobileBackups", but they appear as stored in your hard drive. To delete them, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn off Time Machine. Then, turn it on. However, you don't need to delete them, as they will be deleted when your hard drive gets full

  • Enabling php

    Hi there, I am running into some serious issues with enabling the built-in PHP on Mountain Lion.
    I have followed the steps described in an article that I have found through google. Everything were fine until I hit to the steps to enabling PHP service. Unfortunately, I serached through google to see if I can find a solution to it, and it turns out unsuccessful. So, keeping up with a little hope to see if one of your smart techs can solve my issue with PHP:
    I have created a .conf file using my shortname as described in the article that I found on google. Everything went fine with localhost, but when I tried to access to http://localhost/~username then the headache message popped out stating that 403 forbidden. I tried to change access permission but turned out disappointed. Well, with no one can seek for help, my only hope is on you guys. Looking forward to get a good hand soon.

    Hi, I am assuming you are trying to configure the httpd.conf file on your computer.
    In OSX, by default when you enable Apache, the root folder is OSX HDD > Library > WebServer > Documents
    Place a test html file or php file (e.g. something that displays the message 'Hello World') in that folder and open up Safari or any web browser of your choice and just enter http ://localhost/(your test file) in the address bar.  Does the test open and display whatever message it is supposed to show?
    You can edit the httpd.conf file via terminal:
    sudo nano /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    enter your administrator password
    Scroll down the file and uncomment (delete #) for the LoadModule lines to enable the modules you want.
    (The PHP module is near the end of that LodeModule list, just remove the # in front of the line to enable it.)
    Scroll down more to the line that begins with DocumentRoot "/Library....  and change the root directory path to whatever you want.
    (If you want to be able to open up http ://localhost/(your username) in a web browser, make sure that a folder with your username exists inside the root directory.)
    Save and exit httpd.conf file by entering the following keyboard commands:
    ctrl + o, press enter to save
    ctrl + x
    Don't forget to restart Apache after editing the httpd.conf file with this command in terminal:
    sudo /usr/sbin/apachectl restart

  • How to enable php

    I am trying to enable php on my macbook with Lion 10.7.  I have found and changed the http.conf file, but I can't save the changes.  My computer tells me I don't have permission, but it doesn't give me any pop up to confirm my permission.  Can anyone help.

    Well, first make sure that you are accessing the PHP through the browser with an URL that begins with 'http' or 'https'. If you access it through Finder, or opening it directly in your browser, the web server (that would normally process the PHP script), is completely bypassed.
    If that's not the issue, open Terminal.app. Type
    grep -i php /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    The result should be
    {quote}
    LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so
    {quote}
    If you see a '#' at the beginning of the line, the PHP module was disabled. You need to edit /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and remove the '#' (in the terminal, type 'sudo nano /etc/apache2/httpd.conf').
    While you are at it, also do
    grep -i apache2/other /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    ... and if it doesn't look like this
    {quote}
    Include /private/etc/apache2/other/*.conf
    {quote}
    Edit the file and add that line.
    If that's OK, then type
    cat /etc/apache2/other/php5.conf
    That should look like this
    {quote}
    <IfModule php5_module>
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
    <IfModule dir_module>
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
    </IfModule>
    </IfModule>
    {quote}
    ... if not, edit that file and make it look like it is above. Once all that is done, go to System Preferences, click on the Sharing icon, and uncheck Web Sharing, then check it again a couple of seconds later (to restart the web server).

  • Enabling PHP is breaking Apache.

    I am following the tutorial at, http://developer.apple.com/mac/articles/internet/phpeasyway.html, to enable apache/mysql. Where the tutorial is titled, "Enabling PHP in Apache", I copy and pasted the code to terminal. Osascript password prompted and I entered. When the script finished, I can't access "my computers website", as it just returns as busy/not found. For some reason the Mac HD: private: etc: apache2: httpd.conf file (the copy) is created, but is completely blank. When I replace it with the original, I can access "my com website" again.
    Also. The httpd.conf file does not have a line "#LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so".... so there is nothing to toggle?
    Can I just edit that file manually to enable Php?

    Did you purchase this product direct from Apple online, in an Apple Store, or through a third-party authorized reseller? Or did you buy it from an original owner whose Applecare plan was supposed to be transitioned to a new owner, by them?
    Do you have an original shipping carton the unit arrived in?
    If the product was a retail 'open carton' purchase and no
    back-track is possible, contact the reseller.
    And if the computer had seen a major service with logic
    board replaced, etc, it may have other issues with serial
    number vs one they may have assigned it. Usually a
    new logic board may have the SN flashed or if a unit
    was determined to be a reman, a new # assigned. But
    that would appear in System Profiler, if officially reman.
    If you registered a product anywhere with Apple, it would show on a web page along with its serial numbers, going back several years, at this page after you log in there.
    https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action
    A blue text with triangle See all products and services opens an Apple ID
    sign-in window, then the page changes to show your items & info about them.
    If you run the serial number through online Lookup, what appears?
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
    Not sure if this helps, 'your product' should appear - if registered.
    Good luck & happy computing!
