Endless "Recovery Mode" loop on my iPhone 5.

Last night I decided to update my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.0.3. I connected my phone to my PC using the lightning cable and opened up iTunes, which prompted me to update my iOS. I hit "Cancel" so I could do a sync and backup before updating (as I always do). I then went back to the phone summary page and clicked the button to update the phone. It took about 40 minutes to download the update and after it downloaded, it failed. My phone went into Recovery Mode (picture of cable pointing to iTunes symbol). The summary page now prompted an alert saying that it has detected a phone in Recovery Mode and will need to be restored before being used. I hit "Ok" and then hit the "Restore iPhone" button.  I got the warning that all data will be lost and I agreed to the terms of iOS 7.0.3 etc. The download then began. At the end of the download, nothing happenes at all. No error message appears. The phone screen simply goes black and then the Recovery Mode screen appears again. Once again, I am prompted to restore the phone. I have restored six times now and everytime it does the same thing. It is an endless loop.
I have tried different methods such as using a different lightning cable, different USB ports on my PC, and holding the power button and home screen to force it out of Recovery methods. My wife has the extact same phone and hers updated fine on my PC.
Any suggestions?

Re: Endless "Recovery Mode" loop on my iPhone 5.  in response to MFothy
I was having this same problem (endless recovery mode loop) but I also have a broken Home button, so I'm not able to enter DFU mode. The fix for me was to go through the recovery, but after it restores the firmware, iTunes will tell you to leave the phone connected to your computer while it reboots.
If I leave it connected, the phone re-enters recovery mode. But, if I unplug the phone at this point (during the reboot) the phone goes to the Welcome screen and I can set it up again. If I try to restore from the iTunes backup, I get put back into recovery mode, but if I restore from iCloud backup, everything works.
So, in short:
Plug in the phone, start the recovery
After firmware is installed (while the phone is rebooting), unplug from the computer
Restore backup from iCloud, not iTunes
I have been messing with this for hours now, I finally came across your response. This worked like a charm, thank you so much!!!

  • How can i restore an iPhone 5 from Recovery Mode loop with broken lock/sleep button?

    Hello,
I just tried to delete all my data from my iPhone 5 32gb iOS 7.0.4 (with not working lock/sleep button) to install iOS 8.0.2 and after that the loading bar appeared on the screen. When it finished, the iPhone rebooted and went into Recovery Mode loop and it is still in it (after 3 hours +). Also, iTunes doesn't detect the iPhone at all.
I hope, the solution will be found, thanks.

  • My iPhone 3Gs is stuck in Recovery Mode. My phone has never been jailbroken. What can I do to get it out of the Recovery Mode loop?

My iPhone 3Gs went into Recovery Mode yesterday when I got home. When I plug it into my computer iTunes opens and gives me this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I click the "Restore iPhone" button and wait while iTunes reinstalls the software on the iPhone. As soon as the install is done, I get the same message again "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I'm stuck in a Recovery Mode loop. How do I get out?
This iPhone has never been jailbroken. After a litte research on line I saw some people got stuck in Recovery Mode after a jailbreak, but this is not the case here. Please help.

  • [HELP] Recovery Mode Loop - iPhone 5

    Dear all,
Kindly help me. I'm trying to exit this ***ty Recovery Mode Loop. It is driving me crazy.
    Here is the story:
Yesterday, I was updating my iDevices to the latest 6.1 iOS. When I tried to update my Mom's iPhone, suddenly, the iTunes sync logo appeard.
I synced it with iTunes, and it gave me this message: "Your iphone is in Recovery Mode",
    I clicked "Restore iPhone"
But after I had downloaded the latest update, the iPhone doesn't want to restore.
I tried to Power it off, but it brings me back to the Recovery mode continuosly.
It was never jailbroken (as there is no jailbreak for iPhone 5) + I have looked thru google but found nothing that helps!
I tried (iREB and iRecovery and TinyUmbrella) all of them failed at putting the iPhone back to the normal state or to DFU mode.
    HELP!
    Thanks.

    Hi there nxtbardi,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below. If you used a computer to initiate the update, there is a possibility that the device created a backup before updating.

  • Iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode loop (non-jailbroken)

This is frustrating me to no end!! I tried to update my iphone 4 to IOS6 via itunes, didn't work because my mac needed at least itunes 6.3.1 but it said everything was up to date. So i tried using a newer mac with an updated itunes, failed after about an hour, & got stuck in the recovery mode loop. Everytime i try to connect to itunes & restore my phone to update, a message pops up saying "could not be restored. this device isn't eligible for the requested build". I've been watching youtube videos for about this for an hour now, nothing. I'm about to go insane, so if anyone has any idea of how i can get out of the loop, that'd be great!!

Apple doesn't fix phones they replace them.
The iPhone warranty is NOT international.  You need to return the phone to the country in which it originated (the EU is considered ONE country for warranty purposes)

  • HT1414 Mine keeps on saying that the device could not be restored, "an unknown error has occurred (2001)"!! Guess it's stuck in that dreaded "iPhone Recovery Mode" loop. The question is, which way out??? How do I get it out of the recovery loop??

A quick Google search for Error 2001 would indicate that this occurs when you have a jailbroken phone or were trying to downgrade iOS. Is that true for you?

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's.  Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

  • IPhone 5s on recovery mode loop after water damage

A couple days ago I fell asleep and my cat knocked over some water on my desk, and my phone was submerged in maybe a tablespoon of water.
When I woke up I noticed there were water smudges inside the screen, but everything was working correctly so I just left it alone.
The next day my home button started acting up and not working, and today the home button pretty much does not work at all, and voice control keeps coming on every 10 seconds or so.
I decided to try to do a hard reset before taking it into the Apple store (probably a dumb mistake) and now it is stuck on a recovery mode loop.
I do the restore and every time it's finished, the phone tells me to plug it into iTunes again and that it's in recovery mode.
Do you think the water has totally messed up my phone and it won't come back on? The only thing that was messed up on my phone before I did the hard reset was the home button. Is there anything else I can do to get it back on? At this point I don't really care if I don't get my backup loaded, would just like to have a somewhat working phone.
    Thanks.

    Hi, djab12.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps on how to resolve update error 3004.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3004: If you're using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command in the command line: dscacheutil -flushcache.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting

This could be related to the host file being modified.  Go to the section labeled Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Windows or Mac > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store.

    - It was assumed that All the Previous Problems i Experienced Before Entering the - Recovery Mode Loop... - i.e. - Unsuccessful Backups... - Unsuccessful Application Installations - & Frequent Crashes & Stability Issues Were Due to this Hard-Ware Issue -
    - the Hard-Ware Issue was Determined to Be a Problem With the Memory -
    - i Recommend Making an Appointment at the - Genius Bar... - though i Understand that this Can Be an Issue in itself as Certainly for me Being Resident in the UK there is a Lack of Apple Stores in Close Proximity & It Requires Something of a Day-Trip & Planning to Make an Appointment & Be Seen -
    - It Did However Seem to Resolve my Problem... - as the New Hand-Set Seems to Be Running Well so Far... - though i Have Experienced Some Problems with the Volume of the Device During Calls - though that may be a Fault Other than the - 3Gs - Itself - i.e a Bad Connection/Line -

  • Ipod Touch Recovery Mode Loop - Error Code 14

I attempted to update my Ipod Touch (3rd Gen 32 GB) to the latest firmware (IOS 5 i think). It froze during the process and has since been stuck in a Recovery Mode loop. I have followed all recommendations on their website, called Apple support and re-installed all Apple related software, and even been to the Genius Bar in our local Apple shop, and it still broken!! They said that as it was out of Warranty (six months) and had a 'Hardware fault' i could buy a replacement for £120. I tried to argue with the shop staff and higher level customer support staff on the phone that my Ipod was working just fine before attempting to update the firmware so how could it be a hardware fault??
Is it just me or the fact that as soon as the one year warranty is up, Apple expect you to replace your faulty item with a new one. So much for good quality goods, can we expect Apple products to last just over a year and then be expected to buy a replacement!!
Isn't the fact that i have been offered a new Ipod Touch 32GB for only £120 pounds an admission that the product has some fault issues??
    Anyone else in this position?
Any ideas how to fix the problem?
Anyone else disappointed with Apple Customer Support?

From the article cited at the end of my post:
Error 6: All of the steps in this article apply to resolve this issue. Following iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software frequently resolves this error. There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your Registry. If your default packet size is set incorrectly it can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance.

  • 1 week old iPhone4 stuck in Recovery mode loop

    Hi there
today when I connected my ip4, iTunes asked me to download and install the latest iOS 4.0.2, after that it went into a recovery mode loop and I cant do muh more. I have so far tried to restore using 3 other pc´s, xp and Win7. Tried different USB cable, disable firewall/antivirus, but nothing helps. I am constantly getting an error 9, but I have seen error 2009 and 3194 as well (tried about 10 times so far).
Dont know what else to try
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I had same problem. When upgraded to 4.0.1 I had to take it to apple store to be reset. Tried everything. When it happened with 4.0.2 they gave me a new phone. Sadly I had to reload 30g of music/movie/app twice. Glad I have a better option if it happens next time.

  • IPad 2 3G recovery mode loop - tried everything

Hello to all the community. I have an iPad 2 3G version. Update on 7.1 stuck on 60% and since then I am stuck in recovery mode loops with restores never going past 60% and get error 1 or 2 after 30 minutes on itunes.
    What I have tried:
Different USB port, Computer, Cable, iTunes version, firmware version
    DFU mode
Restore with main buttons cable disconnected from the board
I am really desperate. We dont have official apple service in my country and i will cost me more to fix than buy a used working one.
Its really unfair killing my ipad from an official update. Never jailbreaked etc so I cant try to downgrade either.
    Hope someone has a solution...

Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Error 1015 might happen after making unauthorized modifications to iOS, also called "jailbreaking."
