ENH: More graphical SQL interface
Sorry if some are repeats...
1. Would be nice if column names on table description panes were draggable to the SQL worksheet pane like the code snippets are.
2. Would be nice if floating windows with table columns showed joins between multiple tables in forming SQL statements. And if the resulting data grid were editable.
3. Would be nice if column headings in any data or output grid were clickable for on the spot sorting on that column. I know some grids provide the sort utility for multi column sorting. But for one column quick sorting, the header really ought to be clickable. TopSessions, OEM, SQL Analyze all provide that basic functionality already. It's not a new concept.
I have users that used to use the Oracle Browser product and lost a lot of drag and drop visual interface when Query Builder came around. Some have been using TOAD as a replacement as it supports a visual interface with more than one table. OEM only supports editing one table's data at a time. As far as I can tell, Raptor only supports editing one table's data at a time as well.
#2 relates to an older Oracle product named Query Builder, out of the Developer/2000 package (which replaced Browser) that allows you to pick the tables you want in your query off a pick list. Once you choose your tables, the list of columns appear, each on a floating window. You can drag a column name from one table to the other to create a join between the two (rowid's, SSN's, state name, etc) and a line shows up connecting them so you know. It's sort of like MS Access in that respect. There is no typing SQL, though you can see it if you want to.
To me, that is visual/graphical SQL and is already more advanced in the user interface than this new Raptor product in some respects. Maybe you can find a version and play with it to get the idea. Or I can send screen shots. Problem is that QueryBuilder requires Oracle 7 client and sometimes it doesn't work well with the later versions of Windows OS. It's sad that we can't have that visual interface from a true Oracle product anymore.
#3 If it invalidates the query, then you could just rerun the query. Many times, we want to pull all data from a given table and look for various parts of information in various columns. If we have to go back and actually type in column names in the sort part of the query, that could be done, but it seems like it would be so much faster to just click and resort. The functionality is available in so many other packages it seems very odd to leave it out of this one. It's regression. The fact that you have to type much at all in the SQL worksheet is strange in this point and click world we live in. I can see special cases where you have to tweek your query by hand, but the basics ought to be automatic based on clicks.
For instance, once you click any table for query, it ought to register "select * from table;" as the query. Once you click any column, it ought to register "select column from table". Then if you had ascending/descending icons, you'd get the "order by" clause added. It shouldn't require much typing at all.
Check out your old QueryBuilder product. It was a fine product that hasn't been brought forward. I think it deserves some recognition. Excellent functionality that you might be able to pull into the Raptor product.

Having issues after installing Essbase V9.3.1,configuring the SQL interface
I am having issues after installing Essbase V9.3.1 and configuring the SQL interface. we are using UNIX/AIX box for our Essbase server and UDB DB2 9.1 SP6 as our SQL Interface.
When tried to run an ESSCMD script to perform BUILDDIM operation on Essbase application using the load rule (with the SQL interface), got the error as recorded in the application log file and is attached at the bottom and the .odbc.ini file on the server looks as follows.
Can somebody tell me whether .odbc.ini needs any correction or what else should I do to correct the issue and able to work thru using SQL interface? Appreciate any help provided in this regard. Thanks,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I had similar errors when first setting up the SQL interface. Are you on a 64 bit operating system on the essbase server? If so Essbase needs to use the 32 bit odbc driver, not the default 64 bit driver.
The 32 bit driver is still available here SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe <-----This is the 32 bit (Use)
The Administrative tools by default uses system32\odbcad32.exe <----This is the 64 bit (Don't Use)
Once I opened the 32 bit driver interface directly and set it up the errors went away. -
Problems getting ODBC SQL Interface to work for Essbase 11.1.1.3
Hi folks.
We're running Essbase 11.1.1.3 on Linux (32 bit) and I want to use the ODBC SQL Interface to load fact data.
We have run the SQL Interface install .sh script successfully, then restarted the Essbase agent, and have modified the ODBC.ini file to use the Oracle Wire Protocol driver.
I enter the SQL query in the rule Data Prep Editor in EAS (File | Open SQL) and when I hit "OK/Retrieve" I get the error "Failed to Establish Connection with SQL Database Server."
The application log file says:

Does oracle olap have graphic user interfaces like SQL Server Analysis Services?
At Escendo we also offer products that have direct access to the OLAP Option including write back. Escendo Analytics, and Architect. Check us out or contact us at http://www.escendo.com
Escendo Analytics*
* Full graphic Calculation builder including support for aggregations, allocations, models and many others even including the standard regression and forecasting, Geneva Forecasting and Monte Carlo simulation.
* Process Management which utilizes DBMS_SCHEDULER making for multiple threaded processes such as as parallel loading/processing a snap - full dependency mapping and approvals and flexible scheduling.
* Direct Read/Write access through our ad-hoc reporting with all the usual slice and dice features you would expect in a flash front end
* User access control and management through our Business Perspectives (users, groups
* Easy sharing and collaboration - use any standard SQL reporting tools against the the same data (obviously since this is an Oracle Forum I must add that OBIEE, Publisher, APEX etc - literally any reporting tool)
Architect* is a multi-simultaneous developer workbench which allows full direct access to the OLAP Option capabilities, while our Analyzer web interface to Analytics provides
*version Control including optional integration with subversion, promotion management (dev->test->QA->PROD for example)
*partition templates
*Fullly automated multi-user access
*both Visible and non-user visible measures
*aggregation and allocation management
*native support for both level and value based(ragged) hierarchies
*model and Program editing with lots of Features for productivity and quality enhancements (we use it to develop our flagship products)
*Conversion utilities for legacy Express Applications (Like OFA) - we have converted OFA systems (including reports and saved selections) with huge performance boosts in under a week.
Don't forget that since we are inside the database with Oracle OLAP, there are huge benefits in managing a truly integrated solution. As part of the database kernel, you have scalability, performance and reliability which is unrivaled. (Things like rman, imp/exp etc.
A partner has an excel add-in which has native support the Escendo application platform. http://myobjectiveolap.com/index.htm It is very useful in that you have very advanced control and interaction with the OLAP option allowing complete control over your excel formatting and layout.

Teradata SQL interface For Essbase
Hi,
Can anyone give me an idea on how exactly Teradata sql interface works while loading data in essbase cubes? Does it create any temporary storage while fetching the data from source system? How can we make the process faster other than using teradata parallel transporter and THREADSWRITE for essbase? And I think it's better to do the transformations in sql itself, rather than doing it in rule file.
Thanks in advance! From what I understand EPM Fusion Edition 11.1.1 has optimized loading from Teradata I'm not sure, but it may take advantage of fast export. I believe it has to create a temporary table on Teradata(spool) to gather that data together to send to Essbase. I agree it is better to do the transformation in the SQL before getting it to Essbase, you have more flexibility to get things the way you want in SQL(more complex logic and transformations)

I am facing problem regarding graphical user interface. I am using text box for editing files. I want to show the line numbers and graphical breakpoints along with text box. Can anybody help me in this? Thanks.
Thanks for you reply.
But actually I don't want to show the \ (backslashes) to the user in my text box.
Ok let me elaborate this problem little more.
I want to show my text box as it is in normal editors e.g. In Matlab editor. There is a text box and on left side the gray bar shows the line numbers corresponding to the text. Further more i want that the user should be able to click on any line number to mark specific line as breakpoint (red circle or any graphical indication for mark).

Dear all
i am trying to build a graphical user interface using labview 7.1 but i am new to it and finding difficulties.
my first window should contain two push buttons A and B(like ac machine, dc machine) when a user click on any of this button
the next window should show another push buttons C and D,and this button should link to some VIs which should start running by clicking any of those two buttons
Thanks in advance to anybody who can helpThis is a very general question, but as a general answer, different screen are commonly handled by using different pages on a tab control and programmatically switching between them (you hide the tabs themselves) or by using different VIs. Monitoring for user interaction is done by using an event structure which will allow you to execute code when a button has been pressed. There are quite a few examples in the example finder (Help>>Find Examples) and some templates (File>>New) for how to do this.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Enabling SQL Interface !!
Hi All,
Am using EPM 11.1.1.2
Am aware that we need to enable the SQL Interface using inst-sql.sh script under $ARBORPATH when i did it in 7x
but am unable to see the same script as it mentioned in the document to install SQL Interface using this script
I searched in the entire $HYPERION_HOME path also but no luck
Is it automatically taken care during Essbase installation from System Installer? If so, i think i need to see the
.odbc.ini file in the $ARBORPATH/bin which am not able to view.
Can anybody reply to this as you might have enabled sql interface or aware of this...
Thanks,Hi Nra,
No problem for that...
See here we will have two ini files on version 7x....
one is odbc.ini which you are explaining and this is used for Essbase Integration Services
one more is .odbc.ini (pronounced as "Dot ODBC Dot ini") but both will contain the same DB SID's
Now my question is do we need to use the same odbc.ini file for EIS as well as SQL Interface? or we need to manually create
the .odb.ini file especially for SQL interface like in 7x?
To your answer, am not going to use the odbc features of 7x but we use the latest ODBC features supported by OEPM 11.1.1.2
however, the DB related information would be same and cannot change
Thanks, -
Cannot Open SQL from Data Prep Editor (SQL Interface)
Hi,
When I Open SQL in Data Prep Editor: "There are no data sources defined. Please create one to continue."
I create a ODBC connections using the drivers bellow and I obtain always the same message ("There are no data sources defined.."):
Oracle in OraDb10g_home2
Microsoft ODBC for Oracle
MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle
I have installed and configured Essbase, release 11.1.1.2
Is posible that the SQL interface is not installed and configured with the Essbase Server?
How I can install and configure the SQL Interface? I need to do somethink else?
Thanks!
AssiaThrough EAS select the server and right click and select properties. then go to the environment tab(I think) it should show everything you are licensed for. If this is a System 9 or higher, you should have it automatically. If it is 7X or below, then yoes it has to be licensed

ODBCINI=/hyper/arbor/Hyperion/Essbase/bin/.odbc.iniThe essbase user needs to be restarted to be able to see the new odbc.ini entries.
After editing the files you mentioned, did you restart the essbase services?
At the very least, did you exit EAS, then restart EAS? (I don't remember which one of these will do it.) If your entries are correct, then one of these should get the essbase user to 'see' the odbc connection.
Also, it might help to remove extraneous entries in the .odbc.ini file, kind of difficult to read thru all of that.

Dynamic Dimesion Building using SQL Interface
I am attempting to use SQL Interface in Essbase 6.5 to dynamically build the account dimension from a PeopleSoft tree. The view works fine in SQL worksheet, but the last UNION statement does not work using the SQL interface. Here is the SQL that is generated: [SELECT * FROM ps_n_pre_acc_vw WHERE 1 = 1 order by 6,4,5,3] is generated. Here is the view:SELECT B.TREE_NODE AS PARENT , A.TREE_NODE AS CHILD , (A.TREE_NODE||' : '||C.DESCR) , b.tree_node_num AS num , a.tree_node_num AS c_tree_node_num , 'A' AS ord FROM SYSADM.PSTREENODE A , SYSADM.PSTREENODE B , SYSADM.PS_TREE_NODE_TBL C WHERE A.TREE_NAME = 'PRE_CUBE' AND A.SETID = 'NW' AND A.EFFDT = ( SELECT MAX(EFFDT) FROM PSTREELEAF WHERE TREE_NAME = 'PRE_CUBE') AND A.TREE_NAME = B.TREE_NAME AND A.SETID = B.SETID AND A.EFFDT = B.EFFDT AND A.PARENT_NODE_NUM = B.TREE_NODE_NUM AND A.TREE_NODE = C.TREE_NODE AND A.SETID = C.SETID AND C.EFF_STATUS = 'A' AND C.EFFDT = ( SELECT MAX(EFFDT) FROM SYSADM.PS_TREE_NODE_TBL X WHERE C.TREE_NODE = X.TREE_NODE AND C.SETID = X.SETID) UNION SELECT B.TREE_NODE AS PARENT , (A.RANGE_FROM||' : '||DESCR) AS child , A.RANGE_FROM , b.tree_node_num AS num , a.tree_node_num AS c_tree_node_num , 'B' AS ord FROM SYSADM.PSTREELEAF A , SYSADM.PSTREENODE B , SYSADM.PS_GL_ACCOUNT_TBL C WHERE A.TREE_NAME = 'PRE_CUBE' AND A.SETID = 'NW' AND A.EFFDT = ( SELECT MAX(EFFDT) FROM PSTREELEAF WHERE TREE_NAME = 'PRE_CUBE') AND A.TREE_NAME = B.TREE_NAME AND A.EFFDT = B.EFFDT AND A.SETID = B.SETID AND A.TREE_NODE_NUM = B.TREE_NODE_NUM AND C.SETID = A.SETID AND A.RANGE_FROM = C.ACCOUNT AND C.EFFDT = ( SELECT MAX(EFFDT) FROM SYSADM.PS_GL_ACCOUNT_TBL X WHERE C.ACCOUNT = X.ACCOUNT AND c.setid = x.setid) UNION SELECT B.TREE_NODE AS PARENT , (D.ACCOUNT||' : '||DESCR) AS child , D.ACCOUNT , b.tree_node_num AS num , a.tree_node_num AS c_tree_node_num , 'B' AS ord FROM pstreeleaf a , pstreenode b , PS_GL_ACCOUNT_TBL D WHERE a.tree_name = 'PRE_CUBE' AND a.effdt = '01-JAN-2001' AND A.SETID = 'NW' AND A.RANGE_FROM <> A.RANGE_TO AND A.TREE_NAME = B.TREE_NAME AND A.SETID = B.SETID AND A.EFFDT = B.EFFDT AND A.TREE_NODE_NUM = B.TREE_NODE_NUM AND D.ACCOUNT BETWEEN A.RANGE_FROM AND A.RANGE_TO AND D.SETID = 'NW' AND D.EFFDT = ( SELECT MAX(EFFDT) FROM PS_GL_ACCOUNT_TBL X WHERE D.ACCOUNT = X.ACCOUNT AND D.SETID = X.SETID)I created a view from the last union section of the SQL and Essbase returns a zero rows found error, although when I ran the view in SQL worksheet I was able to get rows returned. Any ideas on why the view does not return the expected results in Essbase?
before your query do:
<cfsavecontent
variable="emailmessagebody"><cfinclude
template="#mancbPath#/mancb_body.cfm"></cfsavecontent>
then in your query instead of using '<cfinclude ...>'
use
'#emailmessagebody#'

I am trying to setup the sql interface on a linux 64 box, using essbase 11.1.2
I have added a data source.
followed the instructions in the SQl interface guide
Open the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini file and add a data
source description.
Copy the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini to
$ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini.
Create a symbolic link to the $ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini from the UNIX user home directory:
ln -s $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini /home/myfolder/.odbc.ini
Verify that the odbc.ini file in the user home directory matches the odbc.ini file in
$EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x.
stopped and restarted the admin server.
In the admin console I then tried to create a rules file and i opened the SQL Data sources.
But the data source which i had defined in the odbc.ini does not appear in the SQL data sources list.
I have double checked my steps with no success have i missed some aspect of configuration
has anyone else had this experience.Hi there,
Came across this searching for a similar problem but we managed to fix this by
1. Updating our odbc.ini file to the correct information
2. Creating symbolic links on the essbase server:
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/products/Essbase/EssbaseServer/bin/.odbc.ini
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /export/home/bismart/.odbc.ini
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /ess/oracle/user_projects/epmsystem1/EssbaseServer/essbaseserver1/bin/.odbc.ini
3. Restart all services
Some of that may not strictly be necessary but we've managed to get it working and have a drop down in EAS now.
Note that our install was done to /ess/oracle and our user is bismart with home directory /export/home/bismart/ - yours will be different so substitute with the correct path.
It may be unrelated because we're actually on Solaris 64 but best of luck

May I start more than one interface at boot using network profiles ?
Hi everybody,
I installed ArchLinux on my laptop and I was playing with network profiles to obtain different configurations of the ethernet and wireless interfaces for home, office etc. Everything works fine using "!" in from of each configuration name in /etc/rc.conf and I found useful the menu option.
As far as I understood each configuration file in /etc/network-profiles/ correspond to one interface only, therefore this utility does not allow me to start more than one interface at boot time. Am I right?
In this case it exist already a script to choose between different configuration for two interfaces?
Thanks in advance

How to install graphical desktop interface on Oracle linux server 6.2
Hi
I have installed Oracle Linux server 6.2 how i install graphical desktop interface on server class installationIf this is in the very early stage I suggest to re-install the OS.
Look out for the window to select the set of software to install. Leave Basic Server selected, but choose the Customize now ratio button. Select the Desktops group on the left side of the window. Choose at least the X Window System, Fonts and Desktop packages. To get a similar Desktop like in previous Enterprise Linux releases, add also the General Purpose Desktop and Graphical Administration Tools packages
