ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! BROADBAND-OVERCHARGED ON MY BIL...

I was going to leave BT last year to get a better deal with sky so they offered me a 12 month contract for £7.49 a month for bt broadband opt1. So I took the deal but when my bills came through they were still charging me £17 the monthly charge I used to pay for unlimited broadband. I rang, they said they would sort it out, the usual palarva!! this went on nearly every month for the last 12 months and they kept crediting my account every time as they took the money out my bank as i pay by direct debit. I have spent hours on the phone over this. Then last month they sent me bill for over £100, enough is enough. I rang they said they would sort it, but this time I cancelled the direct debit as I did not want them to take the money and say we will credit your account as £100 plus is not on to pay out when you dont owe it!They promised it would be sorted, apoligised and even put me on another 12 month contract for £7.49 a month for broadband opt 1. What did they do try and get the money out my bank but they couldnt because I'd put a stop on it and now Ive been disconnected for none payment of a bill I DO NOT OWE!! its soo frustrating of ofcourse I rang, complained, a manager will ring me back, but no one has, sdo now I will have to ring again, spend my time on the phone yet again, is this never going to end????

i know how you feel. my broadband and phone combined has gone upto £70/month when infact i heardly use our phone. my broadband and phone combined should be £42/month, called bt on sat about my direct debit. was told they have soughted it out and will charge me £38/month which should increase in nov to my normal price. called bt just today as no changes on my account online. just been told cannot change the direct debit. and also informed that if i pay this i will have a credit balance when the next bill of £98. Is this just so they can get the intrest of my money. why cannot i pay for what the amount should be??? very frustrating never known a company like it. 1 person telling me something then someone else tell me somthing different. I really do hate calling BT up, maybe i should start charging them for my time i call them. Well BT when my contact is up im leaving. I cant wait

What on earth do BT think they are playing at? I have option 2 and there is absolutely no way that this amount is correct!! I am not getting anywhere by telephoning them and keep getting passed from one department to the other! No-one is taking responsibility at BT whatsoever, and as far as I am concerned I have been robbed!!! I am going to report this to OFCOM, Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

  • Bt vision fixed at the cost of my broadband speed

I had a problem with my bt vision for 3 months, basically I didn't have enough broadband speed to maintain the bt vision, I always got the v04 error code, well a BIG thank you to the mods on here, it now works. yippee I can watch it at last, unfortunately that leaves me 150bs for Internet, I can only use my Internet when I'm not watching on demand, a little unfair I think.
I pay for both so I think I should be able to use both at the same time but I cant, I know you lose some speed when both are on but as I only have 150 bs spare after vision is on I'm stuck, I think I will have to have one or the other but I still have 9 months left on my contract. Will I be charged if I need to lose one or will I have to keep paying for something that's out of my control.
Surely bt shouldn't of sold me the package if they cant give me the full package all at once, only 2 things at any one time.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Dolphincutieuk,
This sounds very annoying.  Usually BT Vision will hold around 1.6MB of your connection, the rest of your bandwidth is for surfing and what not.
I can look into this for you to see if we can do anything to improve the situation.  Please drop me an email to [email protected], include your account details and I'll get the ball moving.
    Cheers

  • Home Sharing Useless on iPhone 4

Once again, I'm taking time away from doing other things that I would prefer to be doing right now to lodge another complaint about iOS. Once upon a time, home sharing worked on the iPhone. It is no longer functional. I don't know which itteration of iOS or iTunes broke the chain (I'm using iOS 6 and iTunes 10) but like so many wonderful features Apple introduces to its customer base, it went from something spectacular to something not even worth using. My music library contains thousands of songs. I am the first to admit that it's a massive catalog and would be surprised to see any mobile device handle it with no hang ups. Yet, when Apple introduced home sharing via iOS, they demonstrated it was up to the task and it worked with few hiccups. Today, after numerous redesigns and updates to iTunes and iOS, my Time Capsule networked music library appears to be only good for playing through my Mac. I have gone full circle from being tethered to my Mac and syncing my iPhone packed with space limited smart playlists via a cable to enjoying smart playlists in their entirety streamed to my iPhone anywhere in the house to, once again, being tethered to my Mac and not even bothering to sync music to my phone anymore (with the acception of my workout mix, which is parked locally on my phone). Why did this happen? I have no idea. Where iPhone once managed to connect quickly to my Mac and stream music anytime and anywhere via my home network, it now hangs on initial attempts to connect and, when it manages to connect after numerous attempts, it sometimes appears to load a limited number of songs, artists, and albums available in my library. It also places songs in playlists that should not be there and disconnects from my network regularly. Finally, if I don't always remember to switch back to my iPhone library when I finish playing from my home shared network, there is **** to pay the next time I go back to play my workout mix (to the point where nothing plays until I reset the phone).
iTunes Match is not the solution. I tried it. While I think it's a woderful idea in theory, it's horrible in execution, especially if you have a large library. I have a fast enough broadband and WIFI connection to know that it should work, but it simply doesn't work.
I'm really only here to complain. I have learned not to expect a response from Apple or timeline for fixing the issue. I just want Apple to know that it's alienating some of its most loyal customers. For years, I used your products to keep myself and my media organized. I don't want to change that and do not look forward to changing it. Still, I was a PC user once and I can certainly go back to being a PC user again. The inconvenience of attempting to organize my files on a PC will be offset by the time saved not having to deal with features you introduce that only work some of the time. I'm begging Apple to STOP BREAKING THINGS THAT ARE NOT BROKEN and to GO BACK AND FIX THE THINGS YOU BROKE. I would much prefer that you concentrate on fixing these glitches than introducing useless new UI features like different shades of color at the top of the iOS task bar. I don't know how long I will give for some of these issues to be resolved. It may depend on how many times I have to take time out of my day to lodge yet another complaint on this forum about your numerous software glitches. In the end, I WILL give up and move on. It's sad because, once upon a time, I grew to love your company and products.
Someday, I'll take another twenty minutes out of my day to lodge a complaint about how unreliable WIFI syncing has become since it was first introduced.

I just tried this with my iPhone 4 and it also didn't work.  This is how it failed:
      - Select "shared".
    - The "pie" start to grow, got to about 1/3, then crashed without
        bringing in the shared content.
    - After that, the library appeared in list, but I couldn't select
        it at all anymore.
Then I tried it with my iPad.  The pie got to the same point, sat
there for a long time, then completed and worked fine.
I did a hard reset of the phone and tried again, this time it
behaved like the iPad and worked fine.
Not sure whether it was the hard reset or whether sharing with
another device "woke something up", but in any event it works
now and I can't get it to break again.
Note, I only use sharing for movies, since I have Music Match
(which works *great* for me, even on 3G).
    Specs:
      Sharing: 2.7 GHz iMac i5, OS 10.6.8
      Clients: iPhone 4
                  4th gen iPad
Everything (including iTunes) patched to the latest.

  • Good 2-way video but audio clear only 1-way

The problem is with audio during Mac-to-PC AV chats.
I'm using an iSight on a 15" PowerBook (10.3.9) with cable ISP (tested 356kbps up / 3mbps down). The PC is newer Dell running Windows XP with Quickcam Fusion and similar cable ISP performance.
The Mac and PC achieve good video and the PC receives good audio, but for some reason the Mac receives choppy, unusable audio and sometimes none at all.
We followed all of the posts to make sure correct ports are opened on both ends, that SP2 and extra component are installed on the PC, that the PC's mic records correctly, etc. Went through the tuning wizards, the full duplex settings, fiddling in/out volumes, echo cancellation, bit rates and cps, etc. -- all of the things recommended by EZJim's posts and the links therein, plus all of the ideas gleaned from Logitech and iVisit and anywhere else we could Google (but obviously we're missing something
First I tried iChat (2.1) to AIM (5.9) -- could not hear any audio at all from the PC.
Next I tried iVisit 3.4.3 -- audio was trying to get through but was heavily clipped.
Next, both parties connected to the iVisit Help Desk. The PC-PC connection was good for both audio and video. The help desk PC-Mac connection was good for video but once again the audio was too choppy to be intelligible.
I connected to the iChat user test account at appleu3test01 and achieved excellent video and the incoming audio was excellent too.
Using headphones to eliminate any potential feedback loop (even after trying with speaker volume way down) had negligible effect on Mac-PC connections.
Anyone else experience this problem? Any ideas? On the surface, the problem seems to be with how the PC sends audio or how the Mac receives it -- but I've overlooked the obvious before so...
I can give more specific details as to what we've tried. Appreciate any help!
    Thanks -sailhome

EZ Jim -- thanks for staying with this -- I respect all the time and detail you are putting into helping.
--- info still shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.3.6) ---
Sorry to confuse you. I'm definitely on 10.3.9. I don't post very often and hadn't updated my profile recently. (FWIW, I still have the iMac shown in the profile Anyhow, no 10.3.6 issues lurking.
--- using wireless internet connections ---
I am using an Airport but it passes all the criteria. The Airport sits immediately behind the cable modem and the modem is not serving DHCP, only the Airport does that (no address conflicts). The Mac OS firewall is in place, but I have followed the instructions to open firewall ports per http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 -- in fact I opened all of 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403 to make certain nothing gets blocked.
The computer is achieving 356kbps/3mbps wirelessly (dslreports) and has full bars in connection status. There have not been any packet error messages. The computer does not compete for bandwidth during AV sessions. I could hook the computer directly to the modem but given the high level of performance it does seem unlikely bandwidth is the problem.
         --- Connection Doctor ---
Here are three observations from recent sessions:
    1) Using iChat-to-AIM the video quality stayed pegged at 100%, the frame rates hovered between 12-13fps, and the bit rates hovered at ~180kbps.
    2) Using iChat-to-AIM the audio icon was dimmed, neither party heard audio and Connection Doctor showed zero audio activity. Audio simply not available. This is perplexing because previously the PC could hear my audio fine, it was just my Mac that couldn't hear their audio.
    3) Using iVisit (I know you aren't familiar with it), video hovered at 25-30fps and bit rates hovered at 130-150kbps. Audio operated at a constant 32kbps (ADPCM setting). Bandwidth utilization was set to cap at 500kbps so there was plenty available had the application wanted it -- the point being that bandwidth does not appear to be a limiting factor in performance between the other party and myself.
It appears there is enough broadband speed for iChat
--- That is about all I know about "packets". You seem to know more about packets ---
Only enough to ask dangerous questions
--- If the problem occurs only occasionally ---
I'll need to develop more AV buddies to reach a conclusion on that. My two buddy experiences with Mac-PC connection are consistent (bad audio). I'm in the process of making some Mac-based AV contacts -- would you be interested in testing a brief chat?
My Mac operates fine (no quirks), is up to date (on Panther), I do the repair permissions protocol before/after every software install, etc.
ISP connection is an interesting proposition -- but could that be the problem if video is running so smoothly both directions? I would think that if bandwidth were dodgy then video would fizzle out at least as quickly as audio (and probably faster since audio requires comparatively little bandwidth). Is there some sort of priority given to video when it comes to bandwidth utilization within the connection?
From what I have gleaned, for Mac-PC connections the only free apps that currently support full AV chats are iChat-AIM and iVisit, so doesn't appear there will be other apps to compare against unless we start spending more money.
         --- certain buddy problem ---
Checked out http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page15.html#CertainBuddy . That was interesting but none of matches my setup.
Maybe it's time to throw in the towel and try Skype simultaneously with one of the functioning video apps. Was hoping for simplicity but is seems we've gotten way beyond that with this one!...
Open to any more comments you (or anyone) have. Thanks again -sailhome

  • Schedule TM to backup only on specific network

    Hi there .
How can i schedule my TM to backup only if I'm connected to a specific wireless network.
Because I'm using Time Capsule I want to TC make backups if I'm only connected to this wireless network and no other networks, because it's useless starting backup when I'm not connected to my TC network.

    We ARE golden!
Here's a procedure that works to exclude some folders for any user, and to limit TM to be active only under certain conditions. Please read along.
Here's some information I wanted to share with the Mac community, on how to tweak Apple's Time Machine backup technology. Out of the box, TM is very easy to use (click and forget), but it heavily lacks configurable options, which leads to problems or at least 'challenges' in a corporate environment.
A lot of this info comes from stuff I found through Google, but a comprehensive guide with all info in 1 place does not seem to exist. So here I go. Grab a coffee and sit back.
    Case
Our company wanted to test TM technology. I've set up a Mac OS X Server with a dedicated shared volume for the TM backups. The same principle is applicable to the Time Vault device. I'm NOT talking about TM with locally attached storage.
    *Problem 1 - Exclusions*
The TM System Preference Pane offers only some very basic configuration options: Auto backup On/Off, Destination volume, Exclusions under the Option button, all of which are NON-enduser configurable. You need to be admin to change anything, which is good in a corporate environment.
Exclusions are a good thing. You don't want to back up generic files (ie. System, Apps), nor private user data (such as Movies, iTunes Music, Pictures). TM, however, offers no support to exclude these folders for every users of a system. You'd need to log in as an admin to every Mac and add these folders manually for every user. If another user logs into the system, this process needs to be repeated.
Can't we work with wildcards, so these folders are excluded for every user of the system?
    *Problem 2 - Scheduling*
All runs fine when the Mac clients are on the LAN. TM will kick in every hour and start doing its job. There is plenty bandwidth available (wired or wifi) for TM to read indexes, copy data and do its meticulous checking. Believe me, TM is bandwidth-hungry! I've seen totals of 300MB of data going up and down for a delta backup of only 50MB 'real' fresh data.
On the LAN, all is OK, one just needs to have a little patience. The problem starts when users are not in the office, but connected to our VPN. Bandwidth is usually much lower (especially if connected through a 3G mobile service). Nevertheless, every hour TM will try and connect to the TM server, it will find it, but it will take a very long time for it to finish. Moreover, a lot of people have limited monthly data volumes, and TM will use this up rapidly.
The user doesn't have admin privileges, so (s)he can't deactivate TM in its System Preference pane. The running backup can be stopped manually, but this leads to ever-increasing backup times as more index checking needs to be done.
Apple 'forgot' to build in some scheduling or other checking mechanism (like location). As long as it can find the TM server, it will try to backup every hour.
Completely disabling auto-backup altogether defies TM's purpose, as users tend to forget launching backups manually.
Let's see what we can do here...
    Solutions
Crippled as the TM GUI appears on its surface, there's plenty to play with under the hood. Here's what you'll need to follow along.
    - root access
    - familiarity with the Terminal and shell scripting
    - notions of how terminal commands "defaults", "launchd" and "launchctl" work
    - a .plist editor, i.e. Property List Editor.app (installed with XCode tools)
    *Solution 1 - Exclusions*
The easy stuff first. There is a file
    /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd.bundle/Contents/Resources/StdExclusions.pli st
which we open with Property List Editor.app.
    You will see 3 keys: <ContentsExcluded>, <PathsExcluded> and <UserPathsExcluded>.
I've added extra strings under the <UserPathsExcluded> Array: "Downloads", "Movies", "Pictures", "Music" and some more. While you are at it, peek around in the other keys to see what never gets backed up.
That's it! For every user, these folders will be excluded once you've updated the StdExclusions.plist file. This will not be visible from the System Preferences, so warn your folks that they should look after their private stuff themselves.
    *Solution 2 - Scheduling*
Aaah, here it gets interesting. As explained, an ordinary enduser has no control over the TM scheduling (basically switching it on or off) from the System Preference, as you need admin privileges to change this. How can we make TM only become active when on the company LAN?
    There is a file
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist
which actually schedules the hourly TM backup. Nothing interesting here, just good to know what drives TM. You could change the TM auto-backup frequency here, but that's not our goal. We would like to load/unload this plist completely to allow/prevent TM from activating.
Using launchctl, (please Google for more in-depth info on how launchd and launchctl work, it kinda replaces cron), this can be done easily with the command
    +sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist+
    +sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist+
    Another file is equally interesting:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
which has a key <AutoBackup>. Its boolean and corresponds to the On/Off switch in TM System Preferences.
We want to switch it off automatically when not on the LAN, and on again when on the LAN.
Using the command defaults, this flag can be switched easily:
    +defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine AutoBackup -boolean no+
    +defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine AutoBackup -boolean yes+
Now let's bring these two together and AUTOMATE them. What we'll need is some kind of script that checks a condition (I've taken ifconfig listing a company IP address or not) and then executes above commands for us.
The script (I've saved it in /Applications/Time\ Machine\ Check/timemachinecheck.sh) reads like this:
    #!/bin/sh
    +check=`ifconfig | grep "inet <first 2 digits of company IP range>" | wc -l`+
    +flagfile=/Applications/Time\ Machine\ Check/Time\ Machine\ Check\ OK.txt+
    +if [ "$check" -eq 0 ] ; then+
    +if [ -f "$flagfile" ] ; then+
    +rm -f "$flagfile"+
    +defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine AutoBackup -boolean no+
    +launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist+
    fi
    else
    +if [ ! -f "$flagfile" ] ; then+
    +date > $flagfile+
    +defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine AutoBackup -boolean yes+
    +launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist+
    fi
    fi
It's a simple script. You can adapt it to incorporate your own 'check'.
If a valid IP is found through ifconfig, the defaults and launchctl commands do their work. A flagfile is created as well, to stop this script from repeating the same commands and logging a system log entry every time it runs (which would not be a problem, but I like to keep my system.log tidy).
If no valid IP is found, defaults and launchctl shut stuff down. The flagfile is removed (so the script doesn't repeat its commands, see system log above).
OK, but how to schedule this script so it runs, say, every minute?
    One creates a plist in
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.tbwa.timemachinecheck.plist
    which reads like this
    +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>+
    +<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">+
    +<plist version="1.0">+
    <dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.yourcompany.timemachinecheck</string>
    <key>OnDemand</key>
    <true/>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    +<string>/Applications/Time Machine Check/timemachinecheck.sh</string>+
    </array>
    <key>StartInterval</key>
    <integer>60</integer>
    </dict>
    </plist>
Basically, all it does is run the timemachinecheck.sh script above every 60 seconds. As it is in /Library, this happens as root. As it is in /Library/LaunchDaemons, it is always active (as opposed to LaunchAgents which are only active once, when a user logs in)
    Conclusion
This works for me. The nice thing is that although the auto-backup is disabled automatically when not on the company LAN, a user connected over VPN (on wide enough broadband) can still launch a backup manually.
I had wished this guide to be a little nicer on the eyes, but all the important info is here. You may need to brush up on the techie stuff, but there's the Internet and Google for that.

  • Final Cut Pro and EditShare - Dropped Frames

    Hey,
My Company just got a new EditShare File Sharing server. It's a 5 Rack with 24 drives, for a total of 18TB of space. The problem is, when we're trying to capture straight to the ES (which has 8 RAIDS) there are Dropped Frame Errors appearing. We've tried turning the Internet off, and even re-organized the connection preferences so the ES is the first to be refreshed, but we're still having dropped frames. Info:
    Final Cut Pro - 5.1.2
Capturing from a DVCPRO 50 Deck thru Firewire
    EditShare - 4.0.2
    G5 Mac with OS 10.4.7
note Didn't get so many dropped frames when using LaCie Drives. Could be connection speed or not enough broadband. Any Suggestions? Thanks.
    FraserPost

I believe it's fiber, but not sure. We're also checking because the Gigabit switch has 3 settings, 10/100/1000 gigabits, so it could be at a lower setting, and that's causing a backup in the broadband speed. We're also noticing that the transfer rate from our External HDs (which we were capturing to before) to the ES was slower than anticipated.
Anyone else find this problem with an EditShare or File Sharing server?
    Just checked, it's CAT6 cables.

  • Isight connecting errors

I just bought the isight and I am having the same problems. I'm connected via T1 but keep getting the error message, "Can't get video from camera," or "Not enough bandwidth." My isight works fine on other networks except my network at home. I don't think it is my airport or wireless router (I have both). This is because I connected directly without routers and still had the same problem. Contacted Apple tech support and my network admin. and neither had any clue what it would be. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hello Brian,
    Glad you are making progress.
I can connect to one of my friends easily but the other I still have the same problem. This means YOU have things working. So does one of your friends.
However, the one who cannot talk to you needs to work on his end. He should check the same sorts of things you did, only for his system. If your problem friend gets everything configured and working correctly with other chat buddies but still has problems with YOU, you and he may have what Ralph Johns calls the "certain buddy" problem. Try Ralph's suggestions at Can not connect to a certain Buddy. (You may have to scroll down to get to the Certain Buddy part.)
<hr>We also can not connect together using the the camera. We can however connect via audio chat.Assuming this is the second buddy, (not the one with whom you "can connect to one of my friends easily"), it means that your buddy's port configuration needs work. It sounds like the ports for audio are opened appropriately, but not those for video. He should do the required configuration. If he has already done the configuration, he should re-check all the settings. If all settings are correct, he should test with several others to see whether he might have the "certain buddy" issue with you.
<hr>I notice at times that my camera icon (on iChat) is 3D. And other times it is not. What is the explanation behind this?I suggest these three things:
](0) Mac OS X maintenance. (Perform it regularly)
](1) Make sure you meet all Apple's Mac OS X 10.4: iChat AV system requirements. Your system must meet ALL the requirements for multiple video to see the "3D" emblem. If you do not KNOW that your speed is adequate, actually perform the Speed Tests as explained in Have You Enough Broadband Speed For iChat ?
](2) Make all possible processor power available for iChat AV. Close all other apps before launching iChat AV and follow the other tips in Help for iChat AV 3 Problems, including updating to Mac OS X 10.4.3

  • Connection Speeds

I have Wild Blue satellite high speed technology. I'm wondering if this type of technology is capable of being able to use the isight, even if not to full extent, but I'd love to get it to work.
I download at about 150kbps and can upload at 100kbps. Are these speeds good enough? Is there something wack about satellite?
Also, I have the old model version of the 23" HD monitor. Not the new ones they released that match the G5. Can I mount on those?

    Hello Larry,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm wondering if this type of technology is capable of being able to use the isight, ...
I assume that means that you want to use iSight with the iChat AV application. There are others -- Some Applications you can use with iSight FAQ. Requirements for each are available at their respective links.
If you are interested in iChat AV,
    b what Bill says
for iChat AV 3 (if you use Tiger.)
Just FYI -- You can add YOUR system/OS info to your Discussions "Preference" (immediately below the "Logout" link) to save you from needing to type it every time.
For iChat 2.1, if you use Panther, see Apple's System Requirements for iChat AV 2.1.
If the speeds you are from a reliable speed test site, you should do fine for Mac to Mac video with iChat AV 2.1. As you can see, iChat AV 3 needs significantly more speed for best performance.
What kind of broadband service you use is not important. How much broadband speed you have is what matters. For more info on broadband speed requirements, see the Have You Enough Broadband Speed For iChat ? FAQ.
If you are a new user you might find other information of interest in the iChat AV Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the iSight Tips and FAQ.

  • Dead New Battery

Bought a Macbook about a month ago, it works fine when its plugged in but the battery won't charge. The green light is on my AC adapter, but my battery % is 0 and the button on the battery compartment shows no lights. • Why don't they put how much usage each update will take.  I am on broadband and not sure if I have enough GBs left to do an update.

I have broadband and it just cost me $75 OVER my monthly bill to download Yosemite and the update for iphotos.  NOW, I have notice that it needs two more updates.  Why don't they tell us how much data will be used with an update so we can plan when and which updates to do now, and some later?  The old system they had, they did tell and I was able to ration out which ones to update over the months.

It all depends on how much you'll use the iPhone for internet access. Personally, I use it frequently (work email, browsing with Safari, the Amazon.com app, etc.,) and I use 200-300 MB per month. My wife does not use her iPhone for much outside of email, weather, etc., occasional Internet browsing, and she uses 40-50 MB per month. So, you should be fine with 150 MB.
    Hope that helps...

  • I upgraded broadband but I've still been overcharg...

    Hi,
I moved from PlusNet to BT choosing for their Option 1, 10GB Broadband package as that was the service I was on with PlusNet and we NEVER went over the 10GB. This package deal was advertised as the first 3 months free. Since being with BT we have been consistently overcharged up to £55 a month purely on Broadband, we don't even own a phone.
After we downloaded software on each laptop that monitored our usage we realised we were nowhere near the 40GB BT was suggesting. Despite proving this, trawling through these forums has shown that people with the same problem have been rebuffed by BT as the software is not "official" and they do not recognise it. It makes you start to wonder why BT don't show you your monitored usage like most other major providers and think that just telling you you've used too much is acceptable?
As with many people there isn't enough time to wait for a reply and I couldn't afford to continually get these extortionate bills, so I upgraded my account to the Option 2, 40GB package. During this time, myself and a housemate went away on holiday for two weeks and a week respectively, so there should have been barely any usage. Wrong. The next bill was £65 with usage of 45GB. If I'd upgraded, why have I been charged so much and how could I have possibly used so much?
Is there any body else who has similar problems or has managed to resolve anything with BT?

When you said you have no fax machines on your line, that does include computers directly connected to the phone line?
The reason that I ask is a computer with a dial-up modem (a non broadband modem) that can connect to your phone line, can have software that makes the computer act as a fax machine.

  • There isn't enough bandwidth to maintain the chat (brand new iMac)

When trying to do a video link with another Mac user over AIM I often get the "There isn't enough bandwidth to maintain the chat" message." Both of us are on broadband. A few times I got a connection but it was all pixalated. IM text works fine. Video... not at all.
This iMac is only 2 days old and so far everything is great. I DID migrate from Tiger on a Mini so maybe I got some old system file somewhere?
    All help is appreciated.

    HI,
Aim and iChat Video are compatible.
    iChat can potentially send a pic of 640 X 480 pixels (0.3Mp) at 30 Frames a sec.
That's the same as trying to send a 10Mp pic every second.
(As a rough guide, a .jpg of twice the dimensions is about 500kb = about 250kb for the same size = 75kbps
Or a 22sec movie I have is rated at 135kbps)
The quality of Skype is a lot less than this which is why it tends to work but still be jerky as the Satellite end is at it's limit.
Yes, Skype uses a different Video protocol to that used by iChat and AIM (or even MSN or Yahoo or GoogleTalk)
