Ensoniq sq1 midi to usb interface suggestions/what will work?

looking for suggestions for how to best hook up an ensoniq sq1 (midi out) to my ibook g4 to use the sq1 as a midi keyboard in garageband 3 - with or without the ensoniq sounds.
i read up on various simple cable adapters but it looks like some cables work with particular keyboards and not with others. also i don't really understand what the latency issues are - should i be able to use the sq1 just like i use the m-audio o2 or will there be some glitches because the sq1 is an older midi keyboard from the early 90's?
would greatly appreciate any advice especially if someone has actually used their sq1 with garageband 3

how to best hook up an ensoniq sq1 (midi out) to my ibook g4
MIDI is a standard, the age shouldn't matter. A popular interface I've seen posted about here is the M-AUDIO USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface
with or without the ensoniq sounds.
To record sound you need an audio interface, MIDI doesn't carry sound.
If you want an interface that does Audio then probably the cheapest choice would be a combination of the interface above for MIDI and this Griffin USB Audio Interface for the ensoniq's sounds.
However for a few dollars more I would suggest this TASCAM USB Audio/MIDI Interface which will handle both.

What brands of USB 2.0 webcams will work on a mini for Skype & Snow Leop?
Does Skype work in through SL's iChat program ( IE: does iChat need to be running for Skype to succesfully use video picture & sound?) using iChat?

    Hi hassiman,
I don't have a complete list of webcams, but I recently purchased "IceCam2 USB 2.0 Video web Camera with Microphone (ICECAM2)" at MacMall.com, and it works great in iChat.
I don't use Skype, but I believe that it is independent of iChat. In other words, you can run Skype without running iChat. In fact, only one can grab the camera at a time.

  • Earth with USB & message that phone will work for emergency use only

I had problems with poor reception and people telling me that I kept cutting in and out, or that I sounded like I was talking underwater. Happened only after I upgraded my 16g 2g from 1.1.4 to 2.1. Husband has a 3g on 2.1 and has no problems, so area and external factors were not the cause. I took it in to an Apple Genius. He extracted the software, which he believed was somehow corrupted, and reinstalled it. I set it up as a new phone and have not had that problem since.
Only problem I am still having is that every once in a while when I turn my phone off, when I turn it back on I get the planet & USB cord with the chilling screen that my phone will work for emergency use only. A hard reset will return it to a normally functioning phone. Anyone else out there experiencing this? (This happened even after the Apple Genius extracted & reinstalled 2.1.) Anyone know what causes this?

    Hey Ann,
Are you using the iPhone with any accessories? Does this seem to happen after being used with the accessory?
When the iPhone was restored, was it restored from backup or setup as a new iPhone? You can try restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new phone, if you haven't already. From there you can test it without any accessories.
If it was already restored and setup as a new phone and is not being used with any accessories, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Just call AppleCare or make another reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple store take a look at it.

  • I use XPSP2. I use FF 3.6.22 because of Roboform. I'm reluctant to update FF because I don't know what will work with XP XP2 (won't be using XP3). Which FF ve

Roboform lied to me when I purchased it, promising that I would receive all updates AND upgrades "for life." Then they apparently colluded with FF to turn that into a lie, because they didn't grandfather-in the customers to whom they made this promise for free upgrades. I will never buy any version of Roboform again.
I still use FIREFOX 3.6.22 because that is the last version that my version of Roboform works with. I use XP SP2. Because I don't want Microsoft's spyware and controlware on my PC, I won't be using SP3 or any version beyond XP. I will be moving completely to Linux when what I have no longer serves my needs.
I can't upgrade Firefox to any version more recent than 3.6.22 because FF has not made it clear which is the highest version that works properly with XP SP2. I can't run any version that requires XP SP3 to run properly.

Hi there! Actually, Roboform works with modern versions of Firefox. Please update to Roboform 7.9.0, and update Firefox to version 22 immediately. Continuing to use Firefox 3.6 is leaving your computer at risk for MAJOR security holes, plus known stability and performance issues. Please update immediately.
Also, Firefox will work perfectly fine with XP SP2, but there is no reason why you shouldn't update XP to SP3

  • What WILL work on my iPhone4 in Europe?

Hi - I'm wondering if I should just leave my iPhone4 at home in the U.S. when I go to Europe. I keep reading about how it won't make calls. What WILL it do??
    I understand that I won't have ATT so I can't make calls.
    Does this apply to texts?
    What about email?
What about apps (weather, stocks, NYTimes, etc)?
    TIA your advice.

Sign up for international travel plan, call AT&T for info. I travel to canada all the time with a US phone and i just automatically connect to ROGERS for phone, texts, 3G (but its expensive if i dont sign up for international plan) If you don't want to sign up for plan, you can just connect to local wifi then you can access weather, stocks, email, Safari app etc. Be sure data roaming is off though if you take the latter route (Settings app --> General --> Network --> Data Roaming off)

  • Buying Speakers for Macbook Pro- What will work?

Hey everyone. I'm planning to buy some speakers for my MBP and I was wondering what would actually work with it. I found these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002SQ0A4/ref=ordcartshr/102-9468188-4168941?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance&n=172282
which seem to be a very good price for a pretty good item, and I was wondering if they would work. Is there a converter I would need to buy? If they don't work, then where could I find some speakers that do work?

Computer speakers usually plug into the headphone line out jack. So, yes, if this is how these speakers connect they will work. Some speakers need component audio (the red and white RCA type plugs), if this is required you can buy a converter at Radio Shack for ~$5.

  • MIDI to USB interface

    Hi folks,
I'm looking for some advice on which cable(s?) to purchase in order to hook my MIDI keyboard up to the MacBook Pro w/intel. I'm finding that some things that run on the power macs don't run on intel macs. However, I don't speak "Macenese" fluently enough to decide. I just purchased my laptop a few months ago, and that's as much as I've had to do with Mac. I was a Win XP before that. Can anyone point me in the right direction that will simply hook my Roland EM 2000 Easy Creator up to my MacBook using the USB port? Something that will also be compatible with GarageBand 3?
    Thanks so much,
    Lisa NE FL

Well, here it is, 7 months later, and I've just purchased stuff to hopefully connect my Roland EM 2000 to my MacBook Pro.
    I've hooked it up.
The computer doesn't recognize that anything has happened, nor does GB.
I've purchased MIDISport 2 x 2 M-Audio. I'm almost pretty sure I have it hooked up right, since the green light is on.
How do I make the computer see that it has a keyboard connected to it? I opened up the Audio Midi set up, but I don't know how to use that application, and the instructions didn't seem much help (I still don't speak Macense all that well"
    Help?
    Thanks!

  • I need a floppy disk drive for old 3 1/2" disks. I have a PowerBook G4 Mac with MacOS X 10.4 operating system. What will work for me?

I need a floppy disk drive for old 3 1/2" disks. I have a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4 operating system. What external drive will for for me?

    Hi,
Providing that the old 3.5" floppies are 1.44 MB HD disks, you should be able to use a USB floppy drive.
However, if the disks are 2DD/DSDD in the 800K Mac format a USB drive is not going to work. In this case you would need a suitable semi-old Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive as an intermediary.

  • What will work for stop-motion animation?

I'm a student and Maryland Institute college of art studying animation. I'm a senior and considering necessary investments. Camera, software, etc. Does anyone have suggestions of what software/camera will best work for my computer. I need to be able to have a live view while shooting and am limited by the new mac books only have firewire 800. Any suggestions help.
    Thank you,
    jdudem

Canon's EOS Utility software has an option for time lapse photography with a SLR camera. My old 1Ds II doesn't have live view but will write to the computer via a FW 400 cable and this software. You'd need a FW400 female to FW800 male adapter to use a FW400 cable with the MBP or buy a new cable that fits your camera (mine has a four-pin DV connector) and a FW800 to the MBP.
I have not used the time lapse option. I believe this software limits the minimum interval to the amount of time it takes to write to the disk. I would expect there are other programs that would give you more options and capability. EOS Utility works but it's pretty basic.

  • I need to upgrade my graphics card on my Mac Pro 3,1 2008. What will work in this computer?

I have a 2008 3,1 Mac Pro computer running Mountain Lion. I do video editing and would like to upgrade to FCPX and Motion and Compressor. When I try to install them, I get a message that says I don't have the right graphics card. What card should I upgrade to in order to comply with the software?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.....Gale

The "easy way" is to upgrade to an Apple-firmware 5770 (or for 2008 and later, 5870). "It just works."
There are a lot more options at the margins, but they may require developer-mentality. They can be quite a bit more complex, may drop features, may require flashing the card or typing terminal code to get them going.

  • Solarwinds Netflow products what will work with a 3850-switch

Does anybody know….what Solar winds product will do Net Flow with Cisco 3850-switches? I know Net Flow Configurator will not work….but what about Net Flow Real-time for a Cisco 3850 switch?

For a lot of people, it is not neccessary. I used to ask myself that question until I came across a need for things that iLife and the Finder would not do.
Toast is a great program with a lot of features that just are not standard on a Mac.
You can make music DVDs. You can span a HD backup over multiple disks. You can make hybrid PC/Mac disks. It has DVD compression tools to fit a 8.5GB dual-layer DVD onto a single layer 4.7GB DVD.It suppoprts OGG and FLAC audio formats. You can turn your iMovie and iDVD projects into DivX disks.
It also has lots of nice tools to clean up audio that is imported from a noisy source - like vinyl.
It is all in all a very useful program, but not unless you need any of those features of course.

  • Syncing two macs: what will work without icloud?

Hello. I'm considering buying a second mac, or finding a totally different solution. One of the key questions is: can i still sync two macs; or: what, if anything at all, will sync, what won't without using icloud (which is  totally out of the question, and please no debate on that in this thread, i simply want to know the facts).
    Thanks a lot

you may be right. The decimus guys however don't even get their own web site together, which doesn't inspire a lot of trust. Besides, what I really want synchronized, and what I don't see in their list, is iCal, Address Book, everything that happens in mail (sent mail appear as sent on both machines even outside imap accounts), and of course it would help to have everything in like the document folder in sync. If reminders and notes would go in sync, too, good.
Now, like I said you're probably right in principle about the two machines situation. But I might consider getting the smallest MacBook, which probably won't match my MacPro, and won't accept a 2560/1600 external monitor either. Don't know yet.
    Thanks

  • Any USB TV tuner that will work on S10?

I've thought about adding a USB TV tuner, but the minimum system requirements seem beyond the S10's powers.   Does anyone have experience using a USB TV tuner successfully on the netbook?     Any concerns?   For example, is there enough juice in the S10 to both watch and record?
