Enterprise development for iPad

Hi guys! Please give me understanding on some issues. We want to develop corporate applications for private users, not for the Internet. And we want to let our Flex apps to work on iPad. Is it possible?
1. Apple requires development of apps only on C and it's variations doesn't it?
2. We don't want to publish our apps to Apple app store. So is it possible to have our own repository for downloading by iPad users?
3. There are claims in docs that we can't test transformed apps on iOS simulator on Mac. Is there any way to test apps on environment relatively close to real device, excluding device itself?
4. Is it possible to start developing without any charge to Apple or we should join their programs?

In answer to your questions, and this is to the best of my knowledge, working in an Enterprise situation as well as independent developer...

I personally do not use Flex, but many people in the forums do. I work with Flash so my answers are based on my experiences and what I have read in the forums, but yes, you can use the CS5 software with the Packager for iPhone and develop for the iPad. I have done so with Flash, and others here have done so with the other software.

Not as of Sept 12. There are many posting about this on this forum, too many to mention here. In fact, this is why this forum is called Packager for iPhone.
To get you started: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Applications_for_iPhone:Developer_FAQ
2. We don't want to publish our apps to Apple app store. So is it possible to have our own repository for downloading by iPad users?
Apple does permit Enterprise developers to have a private space to place apps that only their Enterprise users may download from. You must be signed up as an Enterprise Developer with them for this.
3. There are claims in docs that we can't test transformed apps on iOS simulator on Mac. Is there any way to test apps on environment relatively close to real device, excluding device itself?
This has been discussion in many threads about this but the only way to know for certain about performance is to put it on the device.
4. Is it possible to start developing without any charge to Apple or we should join their programs?
Just join the program, it's really not that big a deal, and it's the only way to do everything you say you want to do. Besides, it gives you the ability to have access to all the iOS developer information, which is a big help to understanding how to make your non-C app work better.

  • How to setup AutoFill as a web developer for IPAD (html)

    Hey all,
This is my 1st post on Apple's Forums. Not sure if i can get web-develment info here on Safari but gonna try.
So I trying to get AutoFill working as a Web Developer across different browser platforms for a contact form webpage.
We are esp interesting about mobile to make it easier to fill out hte long contact page on mobile phones which would improve our website's success.
I got IPHONE AutoFill working on a simple HTML contact form.
But on the same webpage form, IPAD I'm having a heck of a time trying to get the AutoFill working.
    My User Agent is:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Ipad: CPU OS 7_1_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/537.51.2 (KTHML... Like Gecko) Version/7.0 Mobile/11D201 Safari/9537.53
Here are all the bases I cover for Safari and other browsers:
    1. Some use regex on the input name attr. so like an attribute of <input name="firstname"/> or fname, etc helps some browsers figure out the context for AutoFill.
    2. Chrome uses a nice context attribute 'autocompletetype="given-name" so dont need to depend on the browser to figure it out via Regexes. also threw on x-autocompletetype maybe if some browsers are viewing it as experimental and decide to implement it as an 'experimental' attribute. This works well for Chrome/Desktop browser.
    3. Also added Placeholder text as some places recommended it.
    4. The label's text is also named nice if some browsers do a regex on the label text to provide context <label for="firstname">First Name</label> <input id="firstname" name="firstname" /> (dont know of any specific browsers that do this... just saying, all bases are covered)
Here is my super basic form that covers all of those:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/36600570/html-autofillform-test/index.html
Yet on the IPAD, I don't see the Autofill button on the keyboard when I click on the 'First Name' input like how IPHONE has it (and yes Autofill is turned on in the Settings->Safari->Passwords&Autofill area, and right below that 'on' setting, I picked my contact to associate AutoFill in which has my name/address/phone/email info).
Why does Ipad-Safari not AutoFill like its supposed to. Do others get that AutoFill button on their IPAD testing the website above and if so, what version are you using (can get version by going to http://www.whatsmyuseragent.com/)
    Thanks for any advice!,
    Ari

Don't think there's an automatic way to do this, but if you tap the top right corner of your screen it should take you straight to connectivity and you can disconnect wifi there ? Also why do you want to disconnect from the web, is it to save battery or data charges ? A 'smartphone' is of little use without a data package !

  • Developing for iPad with HTML

Eteresoft has a good point. I should not have posted this comment as a question. It is really better posted as a non-question discussion topic.
The new DHCP routers are triggered for a security mode when a website is visited from international networks or when http requests are sent within http requests. While this may possibly have been the case in the past, the numbers of these incidents are increasing as more people are switching form landline telephone and cable subscriptions to the internet for communication and entertainment.
The trouble is that many people do not know how to configure the routers in order to continue serving web pages. We all know Eteresofts view, he's already made it clear, that his view is that nobody should serve web pages.
My view is that serving web pages from home is a very important capability to individuals and small businesses. By serving web pages from your own computer, you can interact with customers and manage files in a way that is not possible through remote web server services.
Additionally, serving from one's own computer allows the capability of communicating with one's iPads, etc, through one's iMac...from anywhere on the internet!
While this is not a new idea, it is one that many people have not considered. When used in conjunction with iOS applications, html/javascript programming for home-based web servers offers a lot of new potential for future development.

Those are certainly sound considerations when selecting different solutions to different needs. As you can tell, I'm no expert on web servers (I didn't even adjust the type and quality of the image file).
What is more important to me is the attitude that people 'don't need' certain technologies because they aren't using them, or worse, decreasing access and increasing (regulatory or entry) prices on new technology simply because people haven't figured out how to use them, yet.
I get that feeling when customer service representatives tell me "You can't". I get that feeling when companies design choices around what customers 'should' do and which services they 'should use'. Forward planning works when people are seen as the source of innovative uses, rather than the recipients of thoroughly per-planned social designs.
I have no idea what innovations might eventually come out of home web servers, but I do know what would eventually come of eliminating them. We should be looking at computers as the new telephone, at a very minimum, and with AT&amp;T moving more rapidly into DHCP default routers, this is the time to make certain that we don't get stuck with a 'phone' into which we cannot speak...not by our current understanding of the technology, but by our allowance for the power of possibility.
As far as the machine IP assignment, I understand the assignment to my iMac was originally set at manufacture, but that pirated or knock off machines may have duplicate machine IPs.

  • Developing for iPad   iMac through HTML

The new DHCP standards for internet security mean that home computers will have to configure IP passthrough, as well as configure NAT/Gaming custom services in order to serve web pages. The machine IP will then be assigned a new IP, based on the ISP.
This system is even more secure than in the past, but many people do not know how to configure the DHCP routers. With proper configuration, a home-based computer can connect with iPad, etc, through HTML/Javascript which is not a new idea, but does open many possibilities for development, especially if used in conjunction with iOS applications.
Here is a link with the settings for one common DHCP router.

Major ISPs have started widely using DHCP with limited ports and no outside internet connection as the default, which is a recent development.
Trust me. It is gibberish. If the hosts are removing your posts, it is not a good idea to keep reposting them.
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Constrol Protocol. It is a way of assigning dynamic IP addresses to hosts on a network. It has nothing to do with ports, routing, or the internet. It is simply an alternative to avoid having to manually configure your machine's IP address, subnet mask, DNS servers, and default router.
ISPs have been limiting ports since the first days of internet ISPs in the 1990s. It is not a recent development.
Do you have a specific question regarding development on Apple products? I do not see how your post belongs in this forum. Do you have a specific question regarding Apple products at all? If so, please ask it and I can ask the hosts to move your thread to the appropriate forum. If you do not have a specific question about an Apple product that someone can help you with, then your post is in violation of the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use and is likely to be removed just like the first one was.

If you are an authorized member of Apple's developer program, you have forums and resources through which you can address issues with seed versions of Apple's software. Posting here or in any public forum is a violation of your NDA with Apple. The developer forums can be found here:

If you are not an authorized developer, then you have an illegal copy of the software.

  • Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edi

I would like to take up the exam "Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5". Could you please suggest me the right book for it?
Does this one helps? ----Head first servlets and jsp
Whihc version I have to choose?

That book is a very decent start, but it does not cover everything you need to know. I would also get "core servlets 2nd edition", which you can download for free here:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com
I would skim these two books to see which topics they cover, then check it against the list of requirements you will find on this page:

to see what you are missing.

  • Where does a developer download iOS5 beta for iPad?

I'm a developer, but where exactly do I download iOS5 beta for iPad? In the Dev Center I only see the SDK for 4.3. Thanks.

Thanks, I wanted to make sure. Many people mistakenly think that the iOS betas are available to the public or non-paid developers. If you can't find the beta, I'd suggest you ask for pointers in the developer forums:
    http://developer.apple.com/devforums/
and if you can't get help there contact Apple Developer Support. We're really not allowed to discuss any specifics about unreleased Apple software in these public forums.

  • Developing iMagazines for iPad

    Hi all,
Posted this here as I really wasn't sure where else to post & I'm hoping some good folk in these forums can either offer advice or steer me to some.
I want to look at what is involved in developing magazines specifically for iPad deployment.
I've done a basic bit of research & it seems the two options are straight PDF with 'live' links etc or a 'container format' ap'.
The PDF option is obviously easier but I wish to sell this product not make it available for free and I don't see a channel for distributing a PDF through Apple or if done externally where it can't be copied & redistributed.
A 'container format' ap' on the other hand could get listed through the ap' store nd I gather sold monthly (or whatever) by 'dropping' the new edition into the ap' BUT I have no idea what one is technically or how it works or is created.
So... in short... I'm starting from an entry level knowledge base here & need to be deciding if this is a worthwhile venture or one beyond my resources.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

just out of curiosity: how did you see this without buying the app - is there some general way to get a trial from the App Store?
When You view the features of the app in the app store, there are pictures of some of the different screens under the main description of the app. I swiped through the pictures and the fourth photo shows a screen - An image in the black box pointing to the image name - roots.jpg. In the window to the right - it says -Action - at the top - in the grey border. I wouldn't have known that the arrow didn't give the same functionality as it does when you open the PDF in Mail. But I was able to see the trash can, the curved arrow and the blue done button on the right. I never heard of the app until we started to posting. Unless the app specifies that there is a free trial period, there is no way that I know to try an app for free.
The thing that I find odd is that you say the arrow is greyed out making that feature unavailable. That arrow icon on the iPad in Safari or Mail is what directs you to the options for - open in, print, email, etc features on the iPad. I assume that arrow must have some functionality somewhere in the app. Not sure why it is greyed out. But I stress, I know nothing about the features of the app or what it is designed to do.

Actually, it is free to register at http://developer.apple.com/programs/register/ as a developer and download the SDK. The $99 fee only applies if you want to install your Apps on a real iOS device (instead of the simulator) or submit them for distribution on the AppStore.
