Entire Music Library deleted when upgraded to 7.1 itunes, on Vista. HELP!

I'm using a ipod nano, and I'm only able to get back a portion of my purchased music and none of the music that I have added from a CD. Is there any way, without having prior copied all music from the library to my ipod, getting it back in my library? This is complete BS.

If it was just taken out from your iTunes Library and not your computer, You can simply drag and drop the iTunes folder or open up your Playlist file (iTunes Library file).
Seeing as though you have Windows, I would put a random song into iTunes.
Go to File>Reveal in Explorer (something like that)
Then go up a few levels till you find the root of all your music.
Drag that folder into iTunes and wait a while.
If you find a file that say's playlist or iTunes Library around there, try to open that file first.
If there's an XML file, maybe you can File>IMport that file and see if it works.

  • Entire Music Library Deleted

iPod Touch 4th Gen.  For the past few years I've been using iTunes on my work computer to play music from my iPod Touch via Apple USB connector.  I add and remove all music on my iPod only from my home computer.  Over the past few days, iTunes on my work computer has been deleting my entire music library, over 4000 songs (with the exception of songs purchased from iTunes).  I've already restored and added these songs once from my home computer but this morning, the same thing happened.  I did select the option in iTunes to not automatically sync any devices and also have selected Manually Manage Music and Videos.  Not sure why all of the sudden I'm losing all stored music when plugging into another computer.  Any ideas??  Frustrated...

Thanks.  Was this something that was changed with a newer iTunes release?  Just strange that I've been doing this for a few years now all of the sudden I'm losing all music  Too bad because it is easy to sort and search through iPod using iTunes.

  • My entire music Library is now on my ipod ONLY.iTunes corrupted.

I need to reinstall itunes 6; however I have several music libraries on itunes 4,5,and 6. All in all I count 5 itunes folders; several more text lists only. Also 2 reciepts marked itunes. The reason my complete library (1,500 songs +podcasts) is on ipod only, is because I tried to remove some of the itunes folders, I had just reformated my ipod, and itunes...I was trying to make sure it never happened again, but BACKUP 3 corrupted my last perfect libraray.leaving the ipod copy as my only full,up to date itunes library. I had itunes folders in my HD;my Home Folders, and in backup. I must have moved, or removed the wrong files!
I am aware everything has to go... so when I reinstall a new itunes 6; then transfer my library from my ipod I Have to get it Right the first time.
Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Frederick,
To answer your question, it doesn't matter what you do with the previous iTunes libraries as they are not needed (but can be useful in emergencies as you have seen). Just put them all in the "previous Libraries" folder and ignore them,
But it might be easier for you to just create a new fresh library based on everything in your iPod. To transfer your songs from your iPod including playlists, playcounts and ratings use a utility like iPod Rip:
    http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=iPodRip
That will be much easier than rebuilding your library.
Let us know how it goes,

  • Why would iTunes 9.2.1.5 automatically DELETE my iPod's entire music library???

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod Classic running software ver 1.3.  I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop.  I've used the iPod this way for nearly 5 years now.  This morning I connected the iPod to my Windows Vista laptop, running iTunes 9.2.1.5, which I do almost every day.
Today was unusual.  When iTunes started up, it told me it was "syncing your iPod," then DELETED everything in my iPod's music library which wasn't purchased on the iTunes website.  Because I only bought a handful of songs from iTunes, this reduced my music library from 25 Gigs to a little less than 15 Megs.  Then iTunes crashed.
Why would iTunes DO this???  I feel like I've been mugged.  That library took years to collect and organize and I don't have access to a lot of the original sources.  The worst part of it all is I had no inkling nor warning that anything was amiss until it was all too late.  And why would iTunes spare only what I'd purchased from the iTunes store???  Is this some sick way of ensuring Apple is the sole gateway to our music access?

It sounds like your iPod did an automatic sync. Whether or not you had it set up that way or not I'm not sure. Anyway, when your iPod automatically syncs it makes sure your iPod MATCHES your iTunes library. If you have no songs in your library (because "I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop") then it will delete all the songs on the iPod to match the iTunes library. The only exception is that it will copy any iTunes purchased songs from your iPod back to your computer as a way of safe-keeping your iTunes purchased songs.
As a side note, there are way too many people on this forum that don't keep their library on their computer (25 Gigs doesn't take up that much room) or at least store it on an external hard drive (they're cheap). Too many things can happen to your iPod such as; theft, damage, malfunction, or your experience that not keeping a back-up copy is risking losing a "library that took years to collect and organize". I know that I have all the CDs that make up my 31,000 song library that are all on my iPod Classic but I still keep them on my computer AND my backup hard drive. I know if I lost my iPod I really wouldn't want to rip all those CDs again, not to mention hunting down missing artwork.

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

  • HT4914 will I need to upgrade my icloud storage capacity to hold my entire music library?

Will I need to upgrade my iCloud storage capacity to upload my entire music library into the itunes match?

No. iTunes match does not use your icloud storage. Match scans your library to determine which tracks are matched or uploaded.

  • I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top, it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library option and check the Selected Artist - on

I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top,
it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library
option and check the Selected Artist … one.
I have changed the Sync option to Manually sync, but that does not help.
How can I change this to the second option?
    Thanks.

There is a checkbox above those two options for how to sync.  It says Sync Music; it enables automatic syncing.  That box needs to be checked before you can select from the two options for how automatic syncing is performed.
NOTE:  If the iPod is current set up to Manually manage music [and videos], checking that Sync Music box replaces its current content with content from your iTunes library, based on how automatic syncing is set up on that screen.
So, if your goal is to add ONE playlist to an iPod that is managed manually, you do not want to do this because iTunes will erase the iPod's current content and replace it with just that ONE selected playlist (and whatever else you select on that Music settings screen).
Instead, if the iPod currently uses the manual setting, you need to add playlists manually to the iPod (not use the automatic syncing setting).  Please post back with more details about your situation.

  • I accidentally deleted my entire music library and it's in the trash, how do I move it back?

I just deleted my entire music library and its in the trash, how do I move it back?

How did you delete it? Please provide more details to see what options you have available. Did you use iTunes by deleting the directory and confirming putting it in the trash or did you drag the actual  iTunes folder in the trash? If you dragged the folder the solution is easy, either right click on the folder and select Put Back or manually return the folder to the previous location.
Do you have a recent backup of the entire iTunes Music folder including the iTunes Library.itl file or just the iTunes Library.itl file?

  • AppleTV 1st Gen has my entire music library loaded however my iTunes library was lost when my external hard crashed.  My question is can I copy the content from the AppleTV 1st Gen back into my iTunes on my iMac?

    AppleTV 1st Gen -
I have a rather complex music/movie library system, as well as the ability to listen/watch the content throughout my house thanks to Control4 - extra vegetables and other various 3rd party equipment.  I moved my entire music library onto an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac...then my dog got tangled in the cord and pulled the external drive from my desk to the floor destroying the hard drive...(yes I've already attempted to have the content recovered by specialists- no such luck.
My question is... Is it possible to copy the content from the AppleTV 1st Gen back into my iTunes on my iMac?  If so step by step directions would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks to all

Thanks very much I have contacted them via this. Just hope they respond quickly- rather annoing! Greatly appreciated though

  • I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes music and have selected 'entire music library', which shows a large amount of potential music data to be transferred.  Trouble is after sync, the bar shrinks back to just the content of one particular Playlist!?

Please can anyone help?  I am trying to sync my iphone music with itunes, but am finding that as soon as the sync is complete the data bar shrinks back from almost full (my entire music library) to just 100 songs, which happen to be the contents of one playlist I have.  i cannot seem to change the music content on my phone no matter what?  PS when I hit sync the capacity bar fills up, but when I apply, it drops back to just those songs I already mentioned :- (

thank you randers4, unfortunately these restrictions aren't to blame.  Now I realise the problem - I tried to play some of the music and found out that the source data wasn't attached.  The computer was rebuilt and backed up - and it seems perhaps hasn't all been copied back.  I am currently attempting to copy accross some itunes files from my backup drive.  Bit confused, too many itunes files of different types but fingers crossed getting closer to the solution......?
