EP6 NW04 on 32 bit upgrade to EP7 on 64 bit

Hi,
We want to move from EP6 NW04 on 32-bit Windows/Oracle to EP7 on 64 bit Windows/Oracle. Our choices are:
- system copy to new 64 bit hardware and then upgrade.
- upgrade on 32 bit then system copy to new 64 bit hardware.
- install EP7 on the new 64 bit hardware and transport the content from EP6.
What is considered best practice? What would be the main reasons for choosing fresh installs over the copy/upgrade? Any comments welcome...
Also, is a system copy from 32-bit to 64-bit considered heterogeneous?
And lastly.. is it possible to use the "XML Content & Actions" method for copying transport from EP6 to EP7?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards
Jane

Is there an advantage to doing a system copy rather a simple export/import of the PCD?

  • Regarding Upgrade To EP7.0

    Hi all,
I need to know, if suppose we are upgrading SAP ERP 2004 to SAP ERP 2005 as well as EP 6.0 to EP 7.0.
    Also,If SAP ESS/MSS 100(for SAP ERP 2004) had been deployed in EP6.0.
Now is it neccesary to again deploy SAP ESS/MSS 600 (For SAP ERP 2005) in EP7.0?
Also, will the customized iviews be overwritten after upgrade? What are the precautions which have to be taken with respect to the before/above during upgrade?
    Thanks in advance,
    Akshay
    Helpful answers would be rewarded.

    Hi Akshay
Refer to Note number 1007341 for supported landscape on the upgrade scenario mentioned by you.
You will require to upgrade ESS business package when you are upgrading to ERP2005 and EP7.0.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi all,
    this issue is normal.
I always got this error when installing/patching the J2EE and components.
If J2EE is yellow, wait for it to be green and choose resume.
If it is green, resume. If it does not work, restart the J2EE as stated.
Note 739190 is supposed to be a solution, but it changed anything for me.

  • Upgrade from EP7.0 from SP19 to SP21

    Hi All
for compatibility with IE8 we are planning to upgrade our support pack from SP19 to sp21 .
please let me know if there is any documentation available for gap analysis, upgrade steps
    regards
    Mrigank

    Hi Mrigank,
For installation steps, you can download the support package stack guide for SP21 from service market place.
service.sap.com/instguides --> SAP Netweaver --> NW 7.0 (2004s)  --> Maintenance --> On the content area Support PAckage Stack Guide.
For GAP analysis you may have to search for SAP notes.

  • Primary  Memory Upgrade in EP7.0 BOX

    Hi All,
We have EP 7.0 residing on  WIndows 2000 profesional version.
We are going to upgrade the primary memory of the box , isi t going to effect  Enterprise portal running on that box?
We are going to shutdown  EP for this process, after RAM upgrade will system come up ?
    Please suggest.....
    Thanks,
    Subhash.G

    Subhash,
Upgrading physical RAM would not affect the existing application, unless due to a faulty memory module.
The system would normally come-up in such cases.

  • Nw04s upgrade queries regarding compatibility

    Hi,
We are currently on EP6.0 SP10 and also are using standalone ITS
    620. We are in the process of upgrading to NW04s ie EP 7.0 .Could
    someone pls clarify  the following
    1) Will (our existing) <b>ITS 620</b> be compatible with EP7 ?
    2) Will our <b>R/3 version ie 4.7</b> and <b>OS WIN 2003</b> be compatible?
    3) Are there any specific hardware requirements for EP7.0?
Help on this would be very much appreciated
    Regards
    Vineeth

    Hi,
unfortunatly, the guy that configured the its/erp at that time does not work for us anymore, I don't have much info for that.
    Min hardware EP7 :
    Suitable backup system
    Minimum disk space:
    Database Software:
    1 GB (x86, AMD64)
    2 GB (IA64)
SAP system files (not including paging file):
    5 GB (x86, AMD64)
    8 GB (IA64)
SAP database files (not including paging file):
    2 GB
4.3 GB of temporary disk space for every required installation DVD that
you have to copy to a local hard disk
    To check disk space:
    1. Choose Start® Programs® Administrative Tools ® Computer Management® Disk
    Management.
    2. Select the local drive.
    3. Choose Properties.
    Minimum RAM:
    1.5 GB
To check RAM, in the Windows Explorer choose Help® About Windows.
    Caution
During the installation with SAPinst, make sure not to enter a value larger
than the maximum Java heap size of your platform. For more information,
see the corresponding documentation of your Java Development Kit - JDK.
    Paging File Size:
1 times RAM plus 8 GB
For 64-bit systems, also see SAP Note 153641. If you want to install only a small
system, contact your hardware partner for appropriate swap space values.
    To check paging file size:
    1. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties.
    2. Choose Advanced® Performance Settings.
    3. If required, in section Virtual Memory, choose Change.
From my experience, you can add easily 10 gb to your EP6 portal for the upgrade to EP7.
At least 2.5 gb ram, and dual processor. I once used a dual 2.4 xeon, it was ok.
JDK 1.4.2_11 for usa and jdk 1.4.2_13 for canada because of the new timezone change.

  • Export/import content from EP6 into NW04

We are upgrading from SRM3.0/EP6 SP2 (source) to SRM5.0/Portal NW2004s (target).
The only thing we need to preserve from the source portal are the users and roles. We plan to re-apply the business package for SRM 5.0 after the migration is completed. We are not using any Collaboration Rooms.
I know there is a migration path from EP6 SP2->EP6 SP9(NW04), followed by an upgrade from NW04->NW04s.
    My question is:
    - is it possible to export content from EP6SP2 and import it into NW04/MW04s?  this will eliminate the complicated migration path from EP6 SP2 to NW04.

    Hi,
As long as you only need to transport PCD content, I would recommend using normal PCD transport (just did an upgrade from EP6 SP2 to NW04 SP13 and used normal PCD transport without any problems. Will do the same for another upgrade to NW04s). Only if you have KM content you are forced to use the migration tools.
I am not quite sure about users and role migration since I've only use LDAP as a user store (we manually repeated the AD group to portal role mapping since there were very few)
There was a conf call on this, but the only reference I can find now is https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/supplemental_docs/prtl204.pdf

  • EP6 Migration to NW04 - J2EE requirements

    Hi Guru's
We are in the process of migrating our Portal from EP6 sp2 to NW04 and the tool we are using to migrate is "EP60MIGTOOL_8".
It seems as if this tool requires J2EE version 6.40 on the source system.
Is this correct and do we have to upgrade our J2ee engine to 6.40 on the source system ??
    Regards,
    Morgan Moodley

    Hi Morgan,
when you migrate from EP6 SP2 to NW04, you need two systems.
The source system, with EP6 SP2, at least PL30
The target system, with EP6 NW04, at least SP16 (maybe 17 now).
You execute the migration tools on the EP6 NW04 system, that copy KM/PCD data via the network .

  • EP6.0 - ECC6.0 - Update to EP7.0(NW2004s) nessessary?

    Hi all,
we are planning to implement a new ECC6.0 System.
Do we have to use/upgrade to EP7.0 (NW2004s), if we want to connect to the ECC6.0 System or upload roles, display transactions and so on from the system?
I was looking for a hint at service.sap.com but i haven't found something yet.
    Any suggestions or recommendations?
Best Regards and thanks in advance,
    Thomas Lademann

    Hi Stanley,
double-verify that all needed files are there, specially the SP11 files.
You can stop the j2ee and start it again, then resume from point of failure, but I doubt it will help.
I suggest to open an oss with sap.
I too had a contraint violate with my upgrade, and they helped me to solve the problem.

  • Shortest possible upgrade path to EP6.0 SP9

    Hello,
    I want to install EP6.0 SP9 and KMC6.0 SP9 on WebAS6.40 SP9 (Windows/MS-SQL Server) in the shortest possible way.
I understand that I can go like this:
    1. Install WebAS6.40 SP9
    2. Install EP6.0 SP3
    3. Install KMC6.0 SP3
    4. Upgrade to EP6.0 SP9
    5. Upgrade to KMC6.0 SP9
Can you guys please confirm whether these are the right installation steps? I remember reading somewhere that we need to follow a different path because of some problems with the KMC installation. Please advise me regarding this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sagar

    Sagar,
Also the installation of the SR1 release will put right at SP9

  • Upgrading from EP6 SPS09 to EP6 SPS13 - SDM returncode 4

    Hi SDN,

Aug 6, 2005 2:59:09 PM   Info: End of log messages of the target system.
So I looked for a regarding note and found the sap note: 710966 DEPLOY_LOCK error during upgrade . I check the lock status of my sap.com/irj application.
The sap.com/irj is not running properly or the sap.com/irj is not installed.
So I reistalled the whole system EP6 SR1 and repeated the upgrade. The Upgrade of the WAS runs successfully, but the EP upgrade crashes again. I do not have a cluster version. I tried to upgrade my portal with the safe mode and without safe mode.
Has anyone of you installed EP6 SPS13 successfully?
    My system:
    1 CPU
    Oracle DB
    JVM 1.4.2_07
    OS Win2000
    Please help.

  • HTMLB Tabstripitem height issues in NW07 (NW04s)

We have an iView that initially displays with 3 tabs, and the content in the tabs are of varying heights. The 1st tab (initial tab to display) no longer dynamically sizes to the height of the content, but instead displays to the height of the largest tab.
This worked fine in EP6, and NW04, but since the upgrade to NW07 (NW04s) exhibits the behavior above.
We are using URL Isolation Method. Changing to Embedded Isolation Method corrects the sizing issue, but causes the page to refresh when a different tab is selected, so this is not an option.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Doug

If there is no solution within htmlb,  then you can look into using the JScript Event  onmove or onmoveend for the iFrame element - a bit hacky and rubbish TBH.
    String iframe1="<IFRAME SRC=\"http://www.google.com\" WIDTH=\"100%\" HEIGHT=\"100%\" FRAMEBORDER=0 ONMOVE=function()></IFRAME>";
Then in the javascript function reload the iFrame content.

Not too sure how well this is going to work,  as the frame may not always 'move' co-ordinates as such when you resize the window.

  • Portal Upgrade Issues

    Hi,
1.Our client is currently in EP6.2.0 and we are upgrading to ECC6.0 and BI 7.0 is there any necessity to upgrade EP to 2004s(EP 7.0)?
Do u recommend staying in same version or is it good to upgrade the EP7.0?
2.If we upgrading portal to EP7.0 having back end is CRM 4.0, will the portal upgrade support CRM 4.0. Or should we upgrade CRM 4.0 t CRM 5.0?
2.In order to estimate the complexity of a portal upgrade, what are the portal items that were customized I should consider.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Dheepa

    Hi Dheepa,
First of all, if you are going to ECC6.0 its is mandatory that you move to the 7.0 platform (EP7 on 2004s) since the business packages and XSS applications are not supported for any other platform. So yes, upgrade you must.
In terms of CRM i am not qualified to advise. I suggest investigating the PAM and perhaps posting in the CRM forums.
When looking at the complexity of the upgrade you need to consider how many customized applications you have in place. If you use the KM solution there is a bit of work to do. Have a read through the upgrade guides and you will get a good feel for what issues you may face.
You may like to consider installing a fresh instance of EP7 and new deployment of the XSS applications onto it, since you are shifting from ITS to WebDynpro in the process. This ofcourse will depend on your analysis of your current environment and the new install vs' upgrade effort.
I would tend to lean towards a fresh installation if possible since this way you have a clean instance and can probably shift to 64bit OS and reap all the benifits that follow.
    Cheers
    Daniel
