  • Epson Artisan 800 can't scan over the network (wireless)

    Hi,
I installed the Artisan 800 all-in-one drivers and software. I can print wirelessly. I looked up Epson scanning setup help. When I open Epson Scan Settings.app, click on "Network", but all the buttons are disbled (unclickable). Therefore, I cannot click "Add" and all the subsequent steps. I tried adding the app to the "incoming allowed" list in Firewall, disabled the Firewall entirely, but to no avail. Funny thing is, it was working a couple of months ago when I had the printer new, but since then I have installed a couple of OS X updates (I believe I had 10.5.5 when it was working). In the intervening period, I also messed around with the OS X supplied Printer drivers (deleted a whole bunch of files, not sure if some required files were deleted), and I noted that the recent 10.5.7 update (and possibly 10.5.6 before) did not restore those files. However today I uninstalled all the Epson drivers/files using the A800 supplied CD, and reinstalled everything. I even tried installing the scanner files from Epson's webpage. Nothing worked. Please suggest something!

i had a similar problem -I connected by printer to an iMac via a network cable to a Time Machine 802.111 router. Could print but not scan. I could only get the scan functions working by setting up the wireless connection on the printer. But then I could not print until i reconnected the network cable between the printer and the TIme capsule. Tel support from Epson seemed more confused than me!
Should I have to have the printer networked by cable as well as wireless? That seems silly. I must be missing a step in one of the setups.

  • Epson Artisan 810 -- Can't Scan to PC using Wireless or USB

I can scan using the Epson Scan Utility on my iMac and do so wirelessly, but cannot use the one-touch functionality of the Artisan 810 to either Scan to PC by Wireless Connection or by USB Connection. Wireless Connection doesn't even appear on the touch screen as an option! If I try to Scan to PC by selecting "USB Connection" I get "Communication error. Make sure the computer is connected, then try again." I have installed the newest driver from Epson -(Epson 13616.dmg) and am having no luck. Epson has been of no help other than to send me the latest driver before it was released. Help and thanks in advance!

  • Can't scan with Epson Stylus DX4450

    Hi everybody.
I'm trying to configure my Epson Stylus DX4450. Printing works like a charm, but scanner is not. I tried to configure it as it was suggested on various websites. I've installed sane, xsane, iscan (from http://repo.archlinux.fr/i686) also I've downloaded iscan-plugin-cx4400 from Avasys website, extracted it with rpmextract ant put the library to /usr/lib/iscan.
When I try sane-find-scanner it shows:
    # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
    # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
    # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
    # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
    # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [Language Error], product=0x083f [Language Error]) at libusb:002:010
    # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
    # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
    # Not checking for parallel port scanners.
    # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
    # can't be detected by this program.
    # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
    # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
    # necessary.
When I try scanimage -L it's idle for about a minute and then it shows:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
But when I try it again it shows:
device `epkowa:libusb:002:010' is a Epson flatbed scanner
Then if I try sane-find-scanner again it will show no language errors:
    found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x083f) at libusb:002:010
xsane will check for available devices for some time, then it shows a message, that no device is available. iscan shows a message "Could not send command to scanner. Check the scanners status". Sometimes iscan will launch, but I can't scan, because it will show me the "Could not send..." error message.
Device usually turns off when I try xsane. Two times xsane launched, but Epson turned off right after it. It also turns off sometimes when I try sane-find-scanner second time or when I try to launch iscan.
I read that there can be a conflict between sane and gphoto, moved /etc/udev/rules/54-gphoto.rules and restarted udev - still didn't work.

    Can anyone help with this?

    Almost solved.
First I've copied files extracted from iscan-plugin-cx4400.rpm from /usr/lib/iscan to /usr/lib/sane. Didn't work.
Then I've checked version of iscan with yaourt and it appeared that aur have newer version than the one from archlinux.fr repo. I've built it, moved epkowa.conf.pacsave to epkowa.conf and it worked once.
sane-find-scanner output was the same, with language errors, but scanimage -L showed that it found my scanner (don't have the exact output - it was different than before). xsane still didn't found the device but I managed to preview and scan to file printer test page with iscan.
When I tried it for the second time, sane-find-scanner output was the same, but scanimage -L didn't recognised the scanner. iscan didn't work. Tried to restart the device - still the same.
Tried to turn off the scanner, restart udev, start scanner again. Didn't work.

  • Can't scan from epson workforce 845

I can't scan documents from my epson workforce 845 printer.  I use a wireless home network to connect to printer.  Printing works fine, but epson software shows communication error when I try to scan.

Scanning drivers over wireless typically aren't as good as printer drivers themselves.   Try hooking it up directly via USB and see if it works that way.  Have a look at my FAQ* to see if any open source drivers might work better.

  • Can't scan in Acrobat 10.1.1 / Lion 10.7.1

I cannot scan using Acrobat X (10.1.1) and an Epson Perfection 4990 scanner because it does not show up in the "select a device" dropdown box.  I can scan using the  application Epson supplies, but the resulting scan is 10-20 as large as I want, and I then have to deal with it in Acrobat anyway.  Neither Adobe nor Epson has been of any assistance. Adobe says the driver is bundled in Lion so it can't be uninstalled and reinstalled, which would not do much good anyway if the Acrobat application does not recognize the scanner.  Apple applications Preview and Image Capture recognize it, but that doesn't do me any more good than using the Epson application.

Are you sure of the math?  a 200dpi colour scan taking 500K represents an original document of two inches square.  You do know that each dot of those "dpi" needs three bytes of stoarage if you are scanning in RGB, and four if CMYK? Eight bits are used to hold the amount of each primary colour in each dot.
    RoughMath:
    500K roughly 500000 bytes. Number of dots 500000/3 = 166666
Assuming a square picture:  side length is sq root of 166666 =408 dots
408 dots at 200dpi is two inches
Regarding size: the larger the resolution, the smaller the resulting size. A ten inch high document scanned at 100dpi is a thousand dots high. Displayed on a 72dpi monitor, the picture is 1000/72 = 13.88 inches high. Printed at 300 dpi, it will end up 1000/300 = 3.33 inches high.
It is the resolution of the output device that determines the physical size of the document. It is the resolution of the scan that determines the quality of the picture.  Your 12 Mp digital camera doesn't need you to print out your photos twelve times bigger than your old 1Mp camera.

  • Can't Scan since Tiger!

I have an Epson CX6400 multifunction printer that worked great until now. I can't scan with Epson scan or Image capture. I tried advice in this forum, namely uninstalling and reinstalling- to no avail. I downloaded a demo version of VueScan which works wonderfully well, but I hate to spend $50 to be able to scan again, if there's another way. Any help would really be appreciated!! thanks!

Have you checked the Epson site for an updated driver? Is the problem with scanning only, or printing as well? Assuming you have EpsonScan software, can you launch it directly? You might also email Epson & see what they suggest.
In the meantime, if you have Word, try going to Insert>Picture>From Scanner or Camera to see if the unit is recognized.

  • I can't scan over wireless with my laserjet 100 color mfp m175mw - Windows 7

HP Scan software doesn't boot up and work unless printer is hooked to pc via usb.  Can't seem to scan wirelessly.  Normal?

    Hi @juancgallardo ,
I see that you are experiencing issues scanning over the wireless network and hardwired network on Yosemite.
I would like to help you out with this issue today.
The drivers for Yosemite are installed by the Apple Updates.
Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.
Did you add the printer as a Bonjour printer or IP Protocal?
IP Protocal won't allow you to scan, just print.
You can also download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
If you are still having issues then check that the scanning ports on the router to make sure that they are open. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router.
If you still can't scan, connect the printer directly to the Mac with a USB cable and see if you can scan. Just to rule out a network issue.
What kind of router do you have?
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • Hp laserjet 400 mfp can't scan, i lost the installation cd

    Hello,
    i have a hp laserjet 400 mfp and i can't scan.
I have Windows 7 and the printer works just fine with the W7 software, but the scan option is not available, because the software installs only the printer, not the scanner.
I lost the installation cd and the installation software from hp support only install the printer , not the scanning option. Please help.
I also tried the e-mail scanning software from hp, but i don't know if it works , because i don;t know how to set the settings.
    Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your answer. I tried with the full software you gave me in your link, but it was no good, because my printer is a Laserjet 4100 MFP, and the software was asking for an usb device, wich my printer is not...
I don't need the driver for the printer, i have that driver, but that driver sees the MFP like a simple printer, without scanner, so, the scanner remains usefull. I need the full software or the CD.
I don't receive an error, i just need the full software for Laserjet 4100 MFP. I didn't find it on HP's website, unfortunately and i don't have the installation CD anymore, cause i lost it....
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The scan to computer is disabled by default (I don't know why the software girls/guys desinged that way). On my machine, driver for Windows 8 is much better (even same exe file). Please enable it using the following steps (please note: for Windows machines)
Double click printer icon on desktop,
       Click Manage Scan to Computer,
       Click Enable
You may want to tick the last square too.

  • After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents.  You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out?  After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac.  It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

  • How can I scan multiple pages to one file with MG 7120

My printer does not have ADF. How can I scan multiple pages to one file on my MG 7120?

    Hi albabynyr,
There is a program that comes with the printer called the IJ Scan Utility that can assist you with scanning multiple pages into a single file.  To scan using the IJ Scan Utility, please follow these steps:
    1. Start IJ Scan Utility by going to your Start menu, then selecting All Programs, then Canon Utilities, then  IJ Scan Utility (folder), then IJ Scan Utility (program).
    2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    3. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window.
    4. In the right pane of the window, locate the SELECT SOURCE field and select the DOCUMENT option.
    5. Set the color mode, document size, and scanning resolution as required in the rest of the fields shown in the window. Click DOCUMENT SCAN ORIENTATION SETTINGS... to specify the orientation of the documents to be scanned.
    6. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the DOCUMENTS folder.
    7. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the SETTINGS (DOCUMENT SCAN) window. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    8. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. After a page has scanned, the screen to continue or end scanning appears. If you have more pages to scan, place the next page on the platen and click Scan.  Do this each time a page has completed scanning.  After the last page has been scanned, click Exit. Scanned images are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed during scanning.
    Hope this helps!
