Equivalent to SpreadSheet? (I need to merge cells)

Hey all,
I'm making a program dealing with scheduling.
Now i need something that works as a Spreadsheet.
a lot of you may say 2 use JTable,
but there's a problem with that idea, i can't merge cells.
For example
The Columns are days of the week, Rows are Activities
i have an activity that is 3 days long,
i want that activity/cell to be 3 cells long( like in excel when you merge cells).
any ideas on how i can achieve this? or alternative ideas?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Table Interface : Merge cells in the same column

I want to use the Table Interface to accomplish this...
I need to merge cells that are to the top/bottom of eachother. So, the 2 cells have the same InfoObject. They are 2 different values and i want them to appear in the same cell... for example..
A regular table returns:
STATUS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
OPEN
CLOSED
I want it to be displayed like:
STATUS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
OPEN
CLOSED
The vertical lines on the right should be lined up but i cant get it to format. Anyway, how can this be accomplished?

We have data object which is a very long text. Much longer than the 60 char limit. So, we're thinking of breaking the text up into 60 char chunks. And then put each chuck beneath one another. But we need the texts to look like they're all in the same cell.
I first thought of manipulating the borders using CSS styles. But I couln't figure out how to tell if I've reached the last line of the text. (I was trying to use I_Y to navigate through the column.)
Second thought, merge the cells. This would be more efficient.

Merging Cells in JTable

I want to merge cells of JTable. I searched on net about this and found that there is no direct API available for doing this.
After visiting many forums I found that jp.gr.java_conf.tame.swing.table package is needed to merge cells. Where will I get this package from and is this package for free? Other packages for merging cells will also do.

However, the component is complicated and difficult to adapt and debug in case you need special functionality.

How do I paste into merged cells?

I have created a spreadsheet that includes some merged cells. I want to paste some information into them and across other cells in that row at the same time. When I paste the information, however, the merged cells are split and the data that are intended for columns beside the merged cell are pasted in the separate columns that make up the merged cell.
In other words, my third cell is actually composed of table columns C-F. However, because it is merged, I would expect it to function as a single cell. So I copy 6 columns of information, try to paste them into 6 cells (one of which is the merged one, C-F), and instead of it pasting into cells A, B, C-F (the merged one), G, H, & I, all of the data ends up pasting into A, B, C, D, E, and F, which defeats the purpose of merging the cells entirely.
Is there a setting I can change to make this work as expected?

Interesting problem. One thing I have found that seems to work is to select and copy the data, run a script that converts the clipboard to text, select the cells to paste to (all of them, not just the one where it will start), then 'paste and match style'. The script is a simple one:
set the clipboard to (the clipboard as text)
Another option would be to use TextEdit as an intermediary. Copy, Paste & Match Style into TextEdit, Copy, then, in Numbers, select all the cells to be pasted to and Paste & Match Style.
Not great solutions but that's all I got right now.

PDF does not contain columns, rows, formats, styles, or other aspects of word processing or spreadsheet file formats.
This is because PDF is decidedly not a word processing or spreadsheet file format or something "like" one of those.
(see ISO 32000 for what PDF "is")
What can optimize the export of PDF page content is to start with a well-formed tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
Without that export is what it is and one performs whatever content cleanup is needed using the native application for the export file (MS Word or Excel).

Merge Cells in Spreadsheet

Does anyone know how to merge cells in an AppleWorks spreadsheet?
The manual says go to the table menu and select 'merge cells.' But I can't find the table menu.
I normally use Excel for spreadsheet work so I keep looking for something like the box with an "a" in the middle.

AppleWorks does not merge cells in spreadsheets. You can, though, get the same effect in a couple of ways.
1. Text in a cell will overflow into empty cells the right if left aligned, to the left if right aligned & to both sides if center aligned.
2. Create a floating text box to hold the text.

Need to access Property Inspector/merge cells

I have inserted a table and need to merge some cells, but I can't seem to access the Property Inspector so I can use the "Merge selected cells using spans" button. My Property Inspector only shows the top two rows of selections, and the bottom two rows (including "Merge cells..." and Page Properties) aren't showing up. Does anyone know how I can access these selections? Still sort of new at this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Quickoffice spreadsheets: Can you merge cells? Protect cells?

I have several forms created in Excel that I would like to use on iPad. I am searching around for the right/best app to use for these forms. If anyone who has used Quickoffice could answer a few questions I would greatly appreciate it.
1. When I open an Excel file in Quickoffice will any changes automatically be made to the file just by opening it with this application?
2. Is it possible to merge cells?
3. Is it possible to protect cells/sheets?

As far as I can tell from Your figure, You have selected something (yellow box) outside (?) of the table? Or is the selection column 1 of the table?
- If You selected something outside of the table, You cannot "merge" something which is not part of a table;
- if it is indeed column 1 of a table, all the cells have already been merged int one.
Like our antipodes would say..."No worries, mate"... AS far as I can tell from the figure, the merge function seems to be working.
If I am wrong, please don't feel offended and clarify Your problem.

Excel export are merging cells for data on multiple lines !

I'm using Crystal Report XI R2, when we are doing an export to Excel with have an unexpected formatting.
For example the value of the name is on 2 lines:
=> So, on Excel the result is on 2 lines but merged. We want to have this result only on one cells.
Remark: if we delete the 2nd lines, because cells are merged we obtain the expected result.

Are they any set-up available concerning the formatting of Excel ?

Could we run some VBA when we click on Export button to make queries on the Excel ?

When they introduced Unicode support in Crystal 9 (I believe), they had to completely re-write the export routines. At that time, they made a decision to change the functionality of the excel export. Crystal is attempting to remain absolutely faithful to the graphical layout of the report as you see it in the viewer. So it creates merged cell sections, empty columns between columns, and empty rows to give you as close to exactly what you see in the viewer as possible. Unfortunately, the result is typically less than useful. Iu2019ve had several conversations with Business Objects (now SAP) with regards to this when they changed it between versions 8.5 and 10, and they have no intention of changing the functionality as it now exists.
There is a document which is now likely somewhere on the SAP portal that explains what you need to do to obtain the best results when exporting to excel.
The jist of it is this:
Line up all of the columns detail data with thier headers, and make sure that data fields are the same size as thier headers.
Line up all rows (headers and detail rows). (ie: select everything in the row, right click, align tops, and make the same height)
cram everything as close together as possible. zero space in the report translates to zero extra collumns and rows in the export.
the other option is to use the export to data only functionality, but that may not be what you're looking for either.

Excel Merge Cells.vi throws an undefined error in Excel 2013?

Basically, I can't write text into an Excel spreadshoot using the Report Generation tools.
Using LabVIEW 2013 (SP1) I am writing to individual cells in an Excel (2013) template.
The error is coming from the Report Generation Toolkit>Excel Specific>Excel Easy Text.vi.>Excel Merge Cells.vi.
Inside of the "Excel Merge Cells.vi" is an "Invoke Node.Range". When the program hits this point, it throws out an undefined error.
My code has been running on multiple platforms in multiple programs with no problems using Office 2010.
NASA upgraded our Office Suit to 2013. I am now throwing an undefined error ( -2146827284).
I've got a service request in and have talked to an engineer. THey are looking at the problem. However, I thought I would throw it out here and see if anyone had seen this particular problem.

Problem found, workaround implemented.
When you use the "New Report.vi", you have to wire in one of four choices for the state of the window. "Maximized", "Minimized", "Normal" and "No Change". If you use the "Excel Easy Text.vi" to insert data into an Excel 2013 Spreadsheet, it will generate an error if you opened the Excel file in "Minimized" mode. The other three states work fine.

Takes a Long time to merge cells

Why does it take me forever to merge 4 cells in a table that
has over 100 rows. Is there anything that I can do to speed up the
process?

Never merge cells? I rarely do this (of course I rarely use
tables, too) -
instead, I will stack tables vertically when I need a new
cell
configuration.

Is there a way of merging cells (not columns) in a Flex Datagrid?

Hello everyone!
I'm new to Flex and I have been searching for a solution to this problem for two days now, so any help would be really appreciated!
I have a datagrid of, lets say x columns of fixed size, with the ability to add or remove rows dynamically. When adding a row o popup comes up and lets the user determine the positions(order) and widths of the desired cells of the row. So what I want to do is to be able to merge cells of the new Datagrid row appropriately, to satisfy the user's choices. Thats the general idea.
Is there a way to have a Datagrid (or other similar component) with different cell number and widths for each row in Flex? I need a component similar to the Datagrid because I want to be able to select rows and process their data.
Any idea would be very helpful as I'm pressed for time and I could use someone's experience to search in the right direction and not loose time.

I can't merge cells, for example cells from 2nd row, 2-4th columns.
I need this format:

Actually you can merge the Cells in Header and Footer. Just that, I think you have older version of the Report Designer.
In 7.10 GUI Release there is now an option to Merge and Unmerge Cells in Header and Footer.
Please check the Report Designer Version from HELP about. It should be atleast 7.1 with Front End Patch level 5 and Above.
I have the same Issue. My Version of RD which is for Release 2004s it does not work but on another machine with GUI 7.1 it works so check that out.

I had to check for some details from Development.
You also need to have FEP 14 for the BI 7.x tools on SAP GUI 6.40, which was just released on Friday. You can find it at service.sap.com/swdc. In the format menu, you will now see a "Link Cells" option.
With the link cells option, you cannot merge across row patterns. That means that you will probably have to make some changes to your report before you can merge the cells, based on what you described.
I imagine that you started out with a report section something like the following (dashes added for formatting purposes):
G0 Header ...
G1 Header -
Controlling Area
Detail -
Func Area
And then moved controlling area to the right to the same column as functional area:
G0 Header ...
G1 Header -
Controlling Area
Detail -
Func Area
Resulting in an output that would look like:
CA1000
FA ABCA
FA ABCB
FA ABCC
CA2000
FA ABCA
FA ABCB
FA ABCC
As shown above, these cells cannot be merged because they cross row patterns. You would instead need to move the controlling area member down to the same row as functional area:
G0 Header ...
G1 Header
Detail -
Controlling Area Func Area
You can now merge these cells, resulting in an output that would look like the following:
CA1000 FA ABCA
CA1000 FA ABCB
CA1000 FA ABCC
CA2000 FA ABCA
CA2000 FA ABCB
CA2000 FA ABCC
To merge the cells, you would simply highligh both cells with your cursor and then select the option from the menu.
