Error 1406 and 1402 When Installing iTunes

Each time I attempt to download the new version of iTunes, it says I have an error 1406 or 1402. I have received instructions previously for this problem because this has happened before, but now they are failing to work. These are the directions I have:
For install error code 1406 & 1402:
Try the following:
Start menu -> Run. Type in "regedit" (this takes you to the Registry Editor)
Find the heading HKEYLOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SOFTWARE inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading Classes. Click
Find the heading .cdda. Click
Find the heading OpenWithList. Click
Right-click on "OpenWithList" folder. Select Permissions. Select Add button. Select the Advanced button. Select "Find Now" button.
The "Find Now" button should list all of the users, Select the "Everyone" user. Hit OK. This closes this dialog. Hit OK in the dialog box now on top. This closes this dialog.
On the Permissions for OpenWithList box now on top, select "allow" checkbox in the "full control" row & hit OK.
Do the exact same thing for the OpenWithProgids folder. Close regedit and try the install again.
Are there any suggestions besides these directions that could possibly help me successfully download iTunes?

Well after I do all the steps it tells me to do, I try installing again, and the exact errors come up.
hi James!
okay, we'd better check explicitly on your administrative rights in your user account. head into your user accounts control panel to see. let's also try the Installshield tips and pointers:

  • Error message Hresult:0x8007054f when installing itunes 10.

I am having trouble installing iTunes version 10. I keep receiving the error message Hresult:0x8007054f and I follow the process it recommends yet I seem to end up going round in circles. I have also read from previous answers to this problem on here that this error can effect your windows updater which it does and nothing i try seems to correct that issue either. Someone help please!

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

  • Error writing to file when installing iTunes 10.

When I updated to iTunes 10 yesterday, it updated fine, but when I went to run it today, it had to configure. It was almost completed when I got the error "Error writing to file: C\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\ru.lproj\IPod touch License.rtf". I tried to access the file, but it says the file cannot be found.
I uninstalled iTunes, and went to re-install it, but at about the same time I get the exact same error.

    Hi,
Did you guys finally find solution to the problem?
I have been trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on redhat 8.0 box, for ages now. I get the following error first during install
Error in writing to file libclntsh.so.9.0
Then it is a series of errors, similar.
In the end there is the dreaded linking error... for the ins_rdbms.mk sdo_on
    i just cant handle it.
    What the hell is wrong?
I have done everything right as far as i know... any solutions?
    cheers

  • TS3212 I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

Is that an error 2 message?
If so, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

pgfpdwife: Re: Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classic\Quicktime.Quicktime\
note carefully that the technique involves a registry edit. be sure to make a backup of any keys you edit. if you're unfamiliar with your registry or registry editing, head to your XP help and support, do a search on registry, and read through the articles that come up.
There are also some instructions on how to back up registry keys in the following document:

  • Error-1603 when installing Itunes on PC

    Hi
I just got a Ipod Nano, and installing Ipod updater went fine, but in the middle of Itunes installing it stop and an error came up.
    hkeylocalmachine\software\classes\.cdda\openWithProgids
    Error 1603
    and installment stoped.
    any help would be nice
    thx

    hi Sofie!
    hkeylocalmachine\software\classes\.cdda\openWithProgids
okay, even though you didn't get a 1402 or a 1406 with that message, i think you should start with this document:
Error 1406 or 1402 appears when you install iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
i've noticed that for some folks with european localisations of Windows, they don't get the error message numbers with those messages referencing registry keys. but problems with those keys generally are 1402s or 1406s on other localisations of Windows.
(generally we only attack the 1603 directly if folks get it as a standalone error. if it shows up at the end of a chain of error messages like this, we should try to deal to the first error in the chain. if we can fix that, the 1603 should go away of its own accord.)
